I came here with my friend on a Saturday night, excited about the prospect of currywurst. It's not a particularly interesting food item - basically just chunks of sausage covered in curry ketchup - but it reminded me of my brief shamblings through Berlin and made me nostalgic. Unfortunately, it wasn't on their menu board even though it was on their website. I probably should have asked about it, but I ended up just getting the Sooo Cali (despite its incredibly cringe-inducing name). It was delicious, and I do not regret my decision in the least. The hot dog was large and piping hot, and though it wasn't especially flavorful on its own, it provided a nice, solid, meaty base for the toppings. To my relief the tempura fried onions were chopped up and sprinkled on, and not just 2 onion rings plopped on top. The Hawaiian bread was a nice touch, but the bottom split almost immediately after I picked it up. I only have two minor complaints: 1. The wait: my friend was pretty much done with his hotdog by the time I got mine. Still, considering it was a busy Saturday night and that my friend eats really quickly, it's understandable. Not a big deal. 2. The seating arrangement: it's a small place, so communal seating is pretty much a necessity. They have three or four regular tables at the front, and the rest are tall, long-ish tables lined up along the side wall. They each seat six, and the chairs are just blocks of wood. Uncomfortable but not awful. Even though it was crowded inside, there was plenty of parking on the street. There were also spots open in their private lot, but it looked like a pain to get out of if it filled up. Love their twist on how to make traditional American food. I got their chili cheese fries which were pretty good. The chili was delicious! My boyfriend got the cowboy hot dog, i believe. It was served with their signature hawaiian bread style bun. SO YUMMY since i love hawaiian bread. They had a whole bunch of sides and toppings available. We also got their sweet potato fries...definitely must get them! We got there right before the lunch rush, so I suggest getting there early as there aren't TOO many seats available, unless you don't mind sharing a bench with other people. Hot Dog on Hawaiian Bread!! Who knew? Got there around 7PM, and it was a packed house. We parked on the street, and it was a one way street. Crazy driver alert...so be careful. Anyway, we finally made it inside, safely, and I got the El Mariachi. Onions, peppers, jalapenos, cheese... mmm, hungry just thinking about it! And topping it off, a side of TATER TOTS! Good stuff!! I'm in the middle of a review drafting frenzy right now, but I digress... Hawaiian bread, delicious hot dogs, and just about any topping/condiment imaginable (within culinary reason), how could you go wrong? I've been here several times, and have yet to have any complaints. I usually try a different signature "Haus Dogs" on each visit and haven't really been disappointed. My top two would be the Double Dog Dare and of course the Resevoir Dog. If you've seen Blades of Glory, "Does this look right to you?!", it may not look right having two dogs in one bun, but it sure does taste great! My girl doesn't really like hot dogs so she usually gets a burger, the Hail Maria to be exact. She loves it and I'll admit it's pretty tasty. A little on the greasy side, but as we all know fat adds flavor! The sweet potato fries (and even simple tater tots) with their curry ketchup is a must have as well. The condiment bar has plenty of choice of free add-ons so don't be shy. The staff is very friendly and service is great. Can be a little slow when orders pile up, but what do you expect when your food is cooked to order. I highly suggest checking it out. I'm avid fan of a good hot dog. I've been to Slaw Dogs on Lake Ave and Dog Haus and Dog Haus is BY FAR so much better! Especially since they are priced about the same. Dog Haus hot dogs are wayyyy bigger than Slaw Dogs and they are served in King's Hawaiian Bread!!! Gahhhh... SO DELISH!!! Just thinking about it, makes me want to go for lunch today! I've tried their Downtown Dog, the Sooo Cali, and the Tater Tots with Chili con Carne. All of it was AMAZING! Obvi, I didn't try them all in one visit! And I love that they are open reasonably late. I was really excited about this place based on all the great reviews but was kind of disappointed. I got the Sooo Cali which had great toppings but the hot dog itself was a little bland. I also got the Cheeseburger which was good but not mind blowing. Overall, the food was good but not great. One of the better, if not best hot dog/sausage place in the Pasadena area. Still doesn't beat out Wurstkuche, but for being local, I'll take it. I've only really had the sausages there because I'm a sausage whore, but every single one I've had has been delicious. I actually went today and was surprised at how great the bread roll was - warm with a nice crunch on the outside. I like how they have peppers, onions, tomatoes, etc, on the side for you to top any of your food with Their fries and tater tots are nothing to write home about, but they're always great accompaniments to a meal. Lunch time on a weekday can get a bit long with the line, but everything moves along pretty quickly. read more

I've never been to a gourmet hot dog restaurant before (such as Pinks) so I have to give this review based on my only experience here. I ordered the Cowboy which is a hot dog with bacon, onion rings, BBQ sauce, crispy onions, and white american cheese. The dog is also served on top of a Hawaiian Bun. This thing was unbelievable. The portion size was huge, the dog had a snap to it, and all the flavors of the accoutrement weren't overbearing and added a ton of flavor. The bun added a slight sweetness that was very much welcomed. For a price that's less than ten bucks that settles the beer munchies, I recommend this place. I'll be coming back for sure. read more

This place is so good! Nothing but "omg this is so good" throughout my whole meal with my friends. Hawaiian King Bread was used for the bun on everything! I had their "Hangover" burger. IT HAD A FRIED EGG IN IT! The yolk of the egg spilled all over my burger as i cut into it with my knife and fork like a real lady! :) PERFECTION. I came here this past weekend with my boyfriend who insisted that I eat here with him after he tried it. It was definitely good food, but i think some of the menu items are catered to acquired tastes. We ordered: 1 Little Mule - burger with avocado, egg, some kind of white cheese, grilled onions, and hawaiian bread bun 1 Abe Froman- keilbasa with egg, grilled onions and bell peppers, and cheese 1 hill street bleus - sweet potato fries with blue cheese My favorite was the Little Mule burger. The hawaiian bread really makes a delicious difference. The Abe Froman was kind of on the spicy side but it was really good if you neutralized it with some condiments..The blue cheese sweet potato fries was definitely interesting..probably won't get it again and just stick to onion rings or regular fries. I'd lean more towards the 3.5 mark, but I like rounding up. The pros are there's a lot of hot dogs styles to choose from. The ingredients are novel and pretty tasty and I like the IDEA of the buns being Hawaiian bread because I love Hawaiian bread. But there lies the problem. I love the IDEA, but in practice, I don't like it that much. The problem is the sweetness of the bun overpowers the taste of the ingredients a little bit and also it makes it a little clumsy to eat. Decided to check this place last month after seeing the Yelp reviews. Our mission: find a place that offered tailgate-esqe food with fast service and easy parking with close proximity to the Rose Bowl. 1) Tailgate-esqe food: check. I had the Cowboy and it was one of the most digustingly good things I have ever consumed. Yes, the hot dog itself was not anything spectacular but when you add american cheese, bacon, onion rings, crispy onions, and oh yeah bbq sauce, it was pure perfection. 2) Fast service: check. We waited in line for about 10 minutes and then received our food 5 to 10 minutes after ordering. 3) Easy parking: check. There is a lot out back, as well as ample street parking on E Union Street. 4) Close proximity to Rose Bowl: check. 15-ish minutes of driving side streets to reach the entrance. I enjoyed the atmosphere with the long tables, but it was pretty tricky finding seating for the four of us. Keep in mind if you have a large group. Hot dogs, hot dogs, hot dogs! Well and burgers if you want that, but it's called Dog Haus! You need to get a hot dog. We tried the El Mariachi and the Grand Slam. My wife wanted something with mushrooms and the nice lady at the counter suggested the El Mariachi with mushrooms and it was amazingly good. The onions, peppers, mushrooms and jalapenos went extremely well together. The Grand Slam was good, but I was sitting there wishing I got the El Mariachi instead. It was good since I want to try anything with an egg in it, but I was a little underwhelmed. The best part of all the hot dogs is that they come on Hawaiian bread! Yup, straight from the King's Hawaiian box. So amazing. We also had some cheese fries which were really good. Almost similar to Belgian fries, so we were huge fans. The service is above par. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Pasadena. I usually come here after doing a nearby hike since it's close to a lot of the nearby trails that I go to. Lots of special hotdogs. Combo meals with fries and soda are under $10. They use toasted Hawaiian Bread as the buns for their hotdogs and hamburgers, which is pretty awesome. If you go in the back, you'll see tons of boxes of King's Hawaiian bread. My favorite hotdog so far The Cowboy - cheese, onion rings, bacon, bbq sauce. I've also tried the Soo Cali and I've yet to try the burgers. The fries are pretty good too. Another plus is all the sauces and condiments available! BBQ, curry ketchup, different mustards, peppers, etc... This place usually gets a bit crowded, went there for lunch and for dinner and had to wait about 10 mins for 2 orders so it's not too bad. Came here on Saturday afternoon and had "Grand Slam," "Cowboy," and "downtown dog" with sweet potato fries and cole slaw. I was pretty starving and devoured two of the hot dogs in about 20min. The sausage is wrapped in their own butter toasted bread. While they were very tasty and filling, I thought there was too much and unnecessary sauce and the flavor of the sausage got diminished and got replaced by ketchup, mayo, bbq sauce, tapatio, mustard, ranch and etc. If you are the person who enjoys the pure taste of the sausage, simply ask them not to put the sauce. But if you think Wurstkuche in downtown tastes plain, I recommend trying out this place for a epic hot dog experience. I will be coming back shortly to try out their other hot dogs. A wonderful find in Pasadena, and judging by the line out the door, the rest of the town agrees. The beauty of this place isn't in the actual meat. Their dogs are rather plain, just your usual all-beef links or brats. No, what makes this place awesome is the toppings. Whether you get what we got: the "sooo Cali" which included avocado, fried onions, spicy basil aioli, and our own toppings of sauteed mushrooms and blue cheese, smothering an all beef hot dog wrapped (rather unsuccessfully) by their trademark sweet italian bread, or the "abe froman" a brat covered in a fried egg (FRIED EGG) and sauteed jalapenos, or any number of their premade combos or make your own, you will never have a dog like this at any other restaurant. The kicker: you can get their 'love boat': fries or tater tots, smothered in chilli and cole slaw. HOLY. F'ING. CRAP. I need a nap after a meal like this. read more

I had the Soo Cali with a veggie dog substitution....REALLY good! i was pleasantly surprised about how good the veggie dog was :) Of course, it's been A LONG time since I've tasted a REAL hotdog, but that being said, it fulfilled my missing of hot dogs since I became flexitarian. The texture of the veggie dog was well done. All the toppings were great (and their self serve condiment bar was also quite impressive) and it was served on a Kings Hawaiian Bun :) They have a huge menu, too! It has now replaced In N Out as my favorite hamburger place, though they are very different kinds of hamburgers. The Holy Aioli is my favorite. Deliciously seasoned burger on Hawaiian Rolls. Maybe I should try a hot dog... or maybe not... because I'm so happy with my Holy Aioli. Limited seating at this location, especially because it gets crowded. Oh man this is great. Like many already said, Hawaiian rolls are BOSS. They make hamburgers and hotdogs with hawaiian rolls as the buns. Now for a small dude like me, a few Hawaiian rolls are already enough put me feeling pretty full. Throw in a hot dog and choice ingredients, and you'll be stuffed for a good while! This adequately justifies the cost (around 6 dollars per hotdog), as you don't have to worry about being hungry after a hotdog. I had the Scott Aioli (forgot the actual name but it's something like that) dog, and that was an amazing idea. It's so delicious. I'm salivating just thinking about it, actually. My friend and I also had a "Love Boat", which was a bit awkward because we are both men. Name aside... it was quite delicious! You can get house sauces on the side, and it comes with a choice of tater tots or fries with chili. Ok... I'm one of the few people who have never had the delicious pairing of savory protein with fluffy Hawaiian bread. So that blew my mind! The good: * Holy aioli burger... I cannot describe how delicious this is if you love garlic and light cheese:) best part is that the bun soaks up the meat juices do you don't loose out on the dribble essences!! * onion rings are great! This place is amazing! I would make the drive out just for this place. The hot dogs are soo tasty with sweet Hawaiian bread and any combination of topping you can imagine. I always get the one with bacon, I think it's called the California or something. Some people try to be all proper and eat the hot dogs with fork and knife but I swear it tastes better ( and is more fun) to eat it with your hands and just be messy. They also have tater tots. I had the blue cheese burger which the cashier gladly transformed into a turkey dog for me. :) Could be a little cleaner and for nighttime the red fluorescent lighting from their window sign was a bit much... Awesome place! Creative hot dog menu or if you prefer, you can create your own. All dogs on the menu comes on three toasted King's Hawaiian rolls. Already a winner in my book. Different and Fun We go here every year for St. Paddy's and they invented the pickleback!! which is super delicious. They're food isn't amazing but it different and fun compared to your average burger. The service is pretty good and the drinks are priced well. I asked the girl at the front if they were a full bar and she said yes LIES! they can offer a lot but they're limited on what they can make and specifically limited on all the drinks we were trying to order, but the cute bartender was able to offer pretty good alternatives. The bagpipes are an awesome touch. The only other unfortunate thing that I have the mention was that they weren't fully stocked. There were three different things on the menu that we tried to order that they "ran out of" but decided to keep it on the board. It's unhealthy and overpriced. At least most of what they've got is decent. It's loud inside, so you won't be able to hold a conversation when you hang out with your friends there. Hey, I know everyone is gushing over this place, but it's really not that great. If you've ever had a Top Dog (Berkeley) style sausage, slow-cooked beyond golden brown on a cast-iron griddle, then you'd know what a proper dog tastes like. The bun and sit-com-esque toppings at Dog Haus are all fine (and might be impressive if you'd just stepped out of a time machine from 1974 and had only ever known Der Wienerschnitzel hot dogs). But, the axis about which it all turns is the sausage, and the quality and cooking method of that sausage determine the rest. If the quality and method are not right, then the bun and toppings just become distractions and camouflage. Bottom line: food is good not spectacular. Fun atmospherics. read more

Every time we're in the area, we stop by Dog Haus! Particularly after a hike, which isn't the healthiest thing in the world. Ha! But it's delicious, & we don't live nearby. We've tried a few hot dogs & burgers. The Sooo Cali is probably my favorite. They use Hawaiian rolls for the buns. Beware that the burgers use 4 Hawaiian rolls, so think of it like 4 sliders! It's very filling. Tator tots are a must. Kids love their corn dogs! Dessert: the cookie sandwiches are huge! Like as big as my face. They were good, but my only complaint is that the cookies are rather hard. It broke our fork when we tried to cut it! Lol. Deduct 1 star because of that. Please soften up your cookies.
