I went after work with my roommate to eat and went here because we were in the area. Bad timing as they had this promotional thing that gave away free hotdogs to yelpers (way to bribe em). So I wait in the long line, order and give my name as Jason to the cashier. I wait for 30 minutes and I still had NO food. I thought it was because all you yelpers were clogging up the lines but this was ridiculous so I went up and asked where the hell was my food. Guy says "Oh, youre Jason? We have Chris down on the receipt". How do you get Chris from Jason you imbecile?? I would have loved to comment on the food but since it was cold by the time I got it with no offer to make a fresh one, I ate this shitty food. I'm in love with "el Mariachi" and I don't mean Antonio Banderas. And to accompany my awesome mexican dog covered in jalapenos and grilled onions, an order of Chili Cheese Tator tots. I mean crunchy tator tots. Just like the cafeteria at my elementary school would make them. The only thing missing with my meal was a cold beer, but I settled for a cold root beer. Finally got to try this place out after reading all the reviews and from friends. The place was pretty full for a Friday night. I checked out the menu and decided on the Grand Slam. I found a table to sit at and the bf ordered our food. The food didn't take longer than 10 minutes. I took a bite of my dog and it was HOT! It had a good bite to it but it was missing something. I walked over to the condiment area and found what was missing. Jalapenos. The bf ordered fries and onion rings. He ordered the Holy Aioli Burger for himself. it was yummy! I really enjoyed the caramelized onions. I enjoyed the fries but wasn't a big fan of the onion rings. I'm picky when it comes to the batter for the onion rings. These dogs are definitely loaded! The buttered Hawaiian dinner rolls they use as buns make these dogs so much more tasty and filling, not to mention they pile on the toppings. My hot dog was so huge that I had to use a fork and knife in order to attack it! Since it was my first time here, I asked the guy at the counter for any suggestions, and he did a great job of asking me what I liked on the grill. I ended up with a specialty dog with grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, and aioli. It was so savory! I also like how you can build your own dog if nothing on the menu suits you. As mouth watering as it was, I was only able to eat half since the dogs are so heavy. My friend also mentioned that their seasoned fries were particularly tastier than most that he had. I personally enjoyed the tater tots; it was a great nostalgic touch to eating in the grade school cafeteria - except these tots are properly fried so they're nice and crispy as opposed to soggy and falling apart. I also enjoy the seating outside. There are a few tables that are in the shade, and it's awesome to sit outside on a nice day in green Pasadena. I see this place has been pretty busy with love and reviews. And like many others I'm sure you've discovered it via Groupon. I rarely like to truly rave and recommend a place to eat, especially in a tough foodie area with high standards like Pasadena. But this place is a high class, top quality, first rate effort fast food joint that knows what it's competing against and holds no punches with flavor, selection, and value. As a note however, I never judge by price regardless anyway. Only by the quality and taste of the food, which is frankly all I care about on Yelp. I came here weeks after I bought their $5 for $10 Groupon special in February. I don't live in Pasadena anymore, so wasn't in a rush to drive here especially with the generous expiration date for the Groupon. First visit, I tried out several items and just decided to blow it out. 1) Got the Grand Slam Haus Dog - Hawaiian bread and dog with smoked bacon, a fried egg cooked over easy, and tater tots. Verdict: BOMB. The runny egg, addition of Grey Poupon and some onions from the condiment line made this a nice, chewy and yet mushy and savory treat. The flavor of the dog was great, good snap and no nasty bits inside with very well seasoned meat and a hint of spicy flavor. This was EXCELLENT when I was sober, it would be GODLY for anyone who is drunk or for a hangover. 2) Cheeseburger - Also served on Hawaiian bread, and patty cooked by default to medium rare. Had all the standard cheeseburger fixins. VERDICT: Very good - This was also a very good execution of a simple classic, and the Hawaiian bread was I guess the draw. Reminds me a lot of getting a burger at The Oinkster in Eagle Rock (which is a good thing), albeit I felt the medium rare was still too dry for me. This was rectified below... I was so impressed by this place that I decided to come here a few days later and try their daily special burger. 1) I forgot what it was called, but it was today's (3/24/2011) special. It was a 1/3lb Angus beef patty on Hawaiian bread with homemade tomatillo sauce, cilantro aioli, fried egg (cooked over easy), pepperjack cheese, and avocado. Verdict: GODLY... while sober! My goodness this burger impressed the hell outta me. Even moreso because it was only $6!?!?! What a fantastic f----ing value! The homemade aspect of it shines through and through. If the toppings I described above appeal to you, and you find it seemingly delcious, then I will tell you now that yes, it is just as delicious as it sounds. I got the patty cooked rare this time, and it finally did the trick. It was juicy, nicely seared, and had that rough, hand ground texture to it that separates it from a lot of other mom'n pop fast food joints where they all get the same ingredients from the same purveyors. Which brings me to another very important aspect of this place. MOST of the items are made in-house, and unique to them. MOST places like I said above get their ingredients all premade from the same handful of restaurant purveyors that serve probably all of Southern California. Anyone's who's had a double take tasting the same sorta patty and style of thick french fries from one place and swore they had something similar from another place in a completely different city (even county) has been a customer to this. This place makes it's own chili, sources its own specialty dogs, forms their own patties, makes their own ketchup and sauces... Again it reminds me highly of The Oinkster, which is a good thing as they are one of the gold standards of great gourmet fast food. The only things that isn't theirs is the obvious: drinks, the Kings Hawaiian bread, French rolls, various brand name condiments, cheese, and can't be more than a few more. For anyone in Pasadena, this is a must try. For anyone curious about trying a rave-worthy place and you're not local, it's worth the drive. The Oinkster was my favorite previous gourmet fast food place. This place has worked hard to earn that crown for me, and I applaud them for making the effort to be great in a city already known for great food. read more

I tried the Scott Baoli dog and I must say that it was a wonderful dog. Their uniqueness comes from their use of Hawaiian buns as a replacement for regular, boring hot dog buns. I can never see Costco dogs the same! My sister had the Sooo Cali and it was a lot messier than mine, but it was really tasty and fresh. Her boyfriend had the Abe Froman, which uses a specialty dog that was spicy and quite the tasty treat. We also had the sweet potato tots, which we weren't really a huge fan of, but if you get fries or tots, you have to try their curry ketchup. It's really good and not too overpowering with the curry. They have a variety of toppings you can get as well. Not long of a wait at all to get our food. Maybe like 5-10 minutes. It's located right next to a LA Fitness, so you can worry about your weight and eat a delicious dog. That LA Fitness, at least when I went, offered a free 3 day trial to the place with a receipt from Dog Haus, which I thought was quite interesting, because it probably takes about 3 days to work off that dog! I've been on this hot dog craze latley and my sis, the kids and I finally got to try this place when the Earth and Arts Festival was going on a few months back. I had the So Cali and we ordered the Sweetie Pie. Not the kind of stuff you wanna be eating if you're on a diet! But, oh em gee- perfection on hawiian rolls. That's what these hot dogs are. And the staff was rediculously kind and attentive, knowing it was our first time. You've really, really got to check this place out if you're in the Pasadena area. Great food, great service. I had lunch here with family over the holidays. Doghaus had a great outdoor patio (the weather was perfect) and a few big screen TVs outside, so we could see the football game. The restaurant specializes in burgers and hotdogs - everything we had was really tasty. I went for "The Little Mule" burger (fried egg, pepperjack cheese, hausmade tomatillo sauce, cilantro aioli, and avocado) and my husband ordered the "One Night in Bangkok" hot dog (spicy thai red currywurst, cucumber kimchi relish, cilantro aioli, salty peanuts). We paired it all with onion rings - definitely a satisfying lunch! read more

Simply outstanding! I had the tri-pepper Kielbasa with sweet peppers and kraut. It was great, not on Hawaiian bread but a very fresh roll. Great condiments bar with everything extra you would want to put on your dog, diced tomato, onion, hot peppers, relish, all kinds of toppings and salts. We got to order and it took 30+ minutes to get our food. I think they skipped our order or something (we were just doing take out), and the guy manning the register did apologize to us. But man...when you're hungry and expect a 10 minute max wait, the delay is insane. But when we got home, we ate our burgers. We both thought both of our burgers were divine. I had a Hail Maria (I gave the bacon to my hubbie since he likes it more) and I just devoured it. There goes the diet! About the place: Ok. Went here yesterday, on a whim. First thing, Dog Haus is on the corner of Hill and Union (Union is a one way street). (Saw some freak drive the wrong way on Union.) When we got there we were maybe 8th in line, and all the tables were taken. By the time we ordered, the place was nearly deserted : / Ordered some monstrous burger, the dude described it as, "mayo, meat, cheese, meat, cheese, hot dog!" Along with an order of onion rings, cheese fries, and a large soda. The total was $28!!! (OMG) About the food: I absolutely LOVE King's Hawaiian Bread. 4 of these puppies makes the bun for the burger. They grill a hot dog, and butterfly it (which creates the base for this burger). The meats themselves are awesome, but my nephew described it as being, "unnatural" : ) Then, when you pick up the burger, it almost instantly disinigrates. The first couple of bites are really good. BUT when you get halfway the grease just comes through, and it's all that you can taste. I ended up saving the second half and eating it later. My nephew didn't like the bread or the hot dog, so he just ate the burger and cheese. (I think it would be nice to offer a regular bun as an alternate to the Hawaiian bread...) The onion rings were really good, some of the best that l've ever had, actually. And my nephew loved his cheese fries.
