Where do I even begin? This is one of my favorite spots in Long Beach. I am a frequent customer, because I often drop in on my way to work or school. Let me share with you a few reasons why DoLy's is AMAZING! First, and most important, the food is awesome. DoLy's is famous for their macaroons (with good reason), but the rest of their baked goods are excellent as well! My favorites are the butter croissant and the chocolate chip muffin - it's always difficult for me to choose which one I want! Also, DoLy's has great coffee drinks that go great with any breakfast. Next, the store itself is adorable, with a Parisian vibe to compliment the array of French desserts. As a college student, I love coming here with my laptop to study, so I can have coffee and a snack while I work. Also, DoLy's is a great place to stop on your way to work if you just want to pick something up fast while you are on your way. Lastly, the owners and workers at this cafe are kind and friendly. They will always greet you with a smile, and have a lot of patience when you cannot decide which delicious treat you want to buy. Do yourself a favor and and give it a try! read more

Some friends and I stopped here on our way to the aquarium for a cheap breakfast on a Sunday morning, and surprisingly, this cute little place was empty except for a couple sipping coffees in the corner. Alright, let's see if I remember exactly everything we got: - A breakfast sandwich with some very tasty ham, egg, and Swiss cheese - A breakfast burrito - Omelet on a croissant (they gladly did the substitution for us!) - Almond cream cheese croissant - Strawberry cream cheese croissant/pastry thing but I'm pretty sure it was a croissant - Two hashbrowns The wonderful ladies behind the counter were happy to recommend to us their favorite pastries, and I love hearing owners'/workers' recommendations, especially at small places like this. After ordering, they started making everything and even brought it out to our table, which I thought was a nice touch. Considering that we're a bunch of broke college students, the prices were fantastic, especially for the quality of the food we got. Our company just moved into an office building in Downtown LB and DoLy's just happens to be on the bottom floor of our building. My first day at the new office I walked into the lobby and the smell of food emanating from DoLy's was so enticing, I wanted to go right away. First chance I got, I was down at DoLy's Delectables to try out their sandwiches. While I was ordering, I peered into the pastry display case and was so excited to see FRENCH MACARONS! I know other yelpers have raved about the macarons so I won't be redundant except to say that today I had the salted caramel macaron and it was fabulous! YUM! I know I'll be having more of those next time I see them available. Seems that they have different flavors each day, not all flavors are available every day. I tried their cajun chicken sandwich and it was delicious! They will hot press any sandwich and make it panini style, which is awesome. And all sandwiches come with potato salad and some greens. I simply went for the desserts since I'm big on desserts and this place seemed like I just had to go try it out. Since I'm a BIG Red Velvet fan, I got a cupcake and macaroon. Hmmmm... cupcake was eh and the macaroon was just too sweet. This was the first time me trying a macaroon, so I don't know if that's the way they are suppose to taste. Cupcake was just too dry the icing tasted too much like Philly Cream Cheese. I've definitely had way better cupcakes than this one. Now the question is.. Would I go back?... I only tried the macarons and some chocolate mousse cake. I felt like the macarons were a rip for the quality. They looked cute enough, but I wasn't a fan. Their chocolate mousse cake reminded me of the Hershey pie at Burger King. Not impressed. Probably won't be going back. read more

I've been craving macarons for the longestttt time, but I haven't found any good local Long Beach shops to fulfill my sweet tooth until...wait for it...... DoLy's Delectables! I've made several attempts to try to come to Downtown solely for my craving, but the only thing that's ALWAYS held me back was the fact that they close sooo early! 3pm? I either have work and get off too late or on my days off, I wake up around 1pm, get ready, and by the time I'm out the door, I'm already too late! SO, the one time I finally had the opportunity to make it with plenty of time left to spare, I really wanted to treat myself to something good. I do wish I could have grabbed a sandwich and eaten there especially because the place is so much bigger inside than how it appears on the outside, but I knew I had to have my macaron fix. I just HAD TO HAVE IT!! At $1.50 a piece for those bite-sized delights, my boyfriend really spoiled me and got.......$30 worth of macarons, 4 in every flavor. Talk about having dessert for daysss! I thought he was crazy for getting that many for the both of us, but really though, it makes up for all those times I attempted to come here, but never woke up in time to do so! My friend, Raylene took me here for lunch today and raved about the French macaroons. Unfortunately, they didn't have any today. The lady at the counter said something about an ingredient was either missing or wasn't up to par. They apologized, so I can't get mad at them. We each had the turkey club panini. The bacon is thick and crisp! I don't ever remember have bacon that thick before! Nice to see some quality. I also had a strawberry banana smoothie and bought some cookies to go. I haven't tried the cookies yet, but was planning to give them as gifts. Now, I am tempted to each one or two of them, lol. I got snickerdoodle and choc chip. Came in for a dozen macarons for $15 and opted for all the available flavors of the day except for coconut and blueberry. Our options consisted of: green tea, vanilla bean, lemon raspberry, strawberry, birthday cake, maple bacon, chocolate, salted caramel, vietnamese coffee, lavender, toasted almond, and red velvet. Standout flavors: lemon raspberry, birthday cake, salted caramel, and lavender. We had left these in the car throughout the blazing hot day, and while they did melt somewhat, they were still as good, if not better, the day after we'd purchased them. Before I knew about about this place, I drive all the way to Pasadena from Long Beach, just to get Euro Pane's macaroons. This place is far closer to my house, about five minutes and I get my macaroon cravings in check. Different macaroons everyday. So many selection. I love the tiramisu, pomegranate, pistachio, red velvet, and vietnamese coffee and the blueberry!!! As for the coffee, I enjoyed the caramel macchiato. I love their breakfast croissant. I think it was baked fresh. That croissant itself was just as delicate as the macaroons. It orgasmically melted in my mouth. Wifi too. A good place to study... Too bad it closes early. It's alright though, I guess... Too much of a good thing is a bad thing? Le sigh~ Let me tell the guys that you'll score massive brownie points if you get the ladies some macaroons. This bakery is TRI-WINNING! Sandwiches, pastries, and coffee are all really consistently good & fresh here, not like others... I heard about their macarons and was curious what they were. My wife & I tried the blueberry and red velvet macarons and ended up ordering a few dozens for a bday party =P Kids LOVE it! I recommend this place for a quick bite or even for students or anyone who needs a place to hang out or study, they have free WI-FI. Nice little place, close too the court of Long Beach. A lot of the places around the area only take cash so I found one that took card. One of the bad things of this place is the Peking situation. I had to park at a lot in front of the location. And the lot that seems to belong too a hotel or some event place. This place is an intimate location that seems to have the essentials in coffee. European and American coffee. They also seem to have n array of lunch items such as sandwiches and other items. They have a plethora of pastries such as muffins, macaroons. My newest fav in Long Beach! I am so excited about this place that I HAD to Yelp it as soon as I got back to my computer! I love cute foods, sweets and great customer service and this place has all 3! This was my second visit, although I didn't buy anything on my first visit because I was on a break from work and decided to go for a walk in DT Long Beach with my friend MyLinh. Their advertisement for Passion Fruit Tea is what caught our eyes, so we vowed to return and I am so glad that we did! At $1.50 each macaroon, we decided to grab two small passion fruit ice teas and split some macaroons. Two macaroons and a small passion fruit ice tea cost me $5. We tried these flavors: 1) Tiramisu - my favorite (so far) 2) Vanilla Almond 3) Strawberry 4) Lemon Raspberry The nice thing about each of these is that they were true to their flavor description. There was no mistaking the hint of espresso flavor in the center of the Tiramisu one, and the Lemon Raspberry one made my cheeks (on my face!) tingle a bit. The crunchy exterior crumbled and gave way to the softer inside and filling which made these a wonderful treat for me. Looks, texture and taste! Win! On my next visit (maybe tomorrow!) I will definitely try some other macaroon flavors (see my pic with the list of flavors) and I'll even grab a croissant. The baker, and I assume co-owner, of this place said that he recommends their croissants and that they only make the macaroons because they're trendy for now. I'd better go back and grab some more before they're gone -- and you should too. UPDATE 5/20/11: So I went there again today (two days in a row!), but this time I brought my co-workers alond and we ordered some lunch. I had a pretty big breakfast, so I opted for a bowl of their Soup De Jour, which happened to be clam chowder and I had a butte croissant on the side. Both items were tasty and I have half of each for later since I couldn't finish it all. Of course, I could leave without furthering my macaroon exploration, but instead of grabbing two or four pieces, I asked for one of each (Blueberry, Tiramisu, Vanilla Almond, Strawberry, Lemon Raspberry, Salted Caramel, Pistachio, Vietnamese Coffee and Cocout) to take home and share with my BF this weekend. They have a deal, if you get 10 macaroons, you can pick two more for free, so I doubled up on the Tiramisu, Salted Caramel, and Vietnamese Coffee for a total of 12 macaroons. I'll update which flavors are my favorite next week! My co-workers ordered the cajun chicken sandwiches (one on sourdough and the other on a croissant) and the bacon, egg and cheese bagel with a hashbrown. The verdict - Bagel was A-OK, but could've been better with pepper jack cheese and less egg, while the cajun chicken sandwich should be order on a croissant, and not the sourdough bread. read more

Pistachio and Salted Caramel Macaroons is what I got with a small European drip. The European drip was "interesting." I am not sure if I can determine if it was a good interesting or a weird one, but the fact of having a cup of coffee WITH any type of pastry / sweet is a plus. Pistachio and salted caramel were good choices. However, I did feel a little too sweet and felt this is just too much for me on the second bite of the salted caramel. I've only been here once, so this is based on my single visit in which everything went right. Came here for lunch around 12:30 pm, I work down the street. Its a cute little shop off the street, we came in there was a fast moving line (and I'll tell you why in a second). Saw the baked goods, not a full French bakery but has cookies, muffins and of course Macaroons. Checked out the Macaroon flavors and decided it would be a good idea. I had the Vanilla bean, lemon raspberry and salted caramel...yum, ok and delicious! These were moist and chewy and a perfect starter to lunch, yes I did it backwards. For lunch I ordered the Turkey bacon club toasted with a passion iced tea. Passion Iced Tea? tasty even without sugar. The Turkey bacon club comes with potato salad and a little spinach salad, great sandwich. The part I was going to get to, it maybe took them 5 minutes to make my order, I barely finished my macaroons before she was handing me my to-go bag. The Sandwhich guy is like a well-oiled machine. It's almost like your eating a flower, (in a good way!), and I could've ate 20 of these in one sitting. Unfortunately, it wasn't made very well as there were two big air bubbles all throughout the cookie so frownie face. Matcha green tea~this one was alright. I mean all of the macarons were delish, but this one didn't really stand out as the green tea flavor was not prominent at all. Omg the best macaroons and croissants I've ever had. The macaroon flavor that I have tried that were great were strawberry salted caramel. These two are a must try. The croissant that I have tried and recommend are the chocolate and the custard. You really cannot go wrong with anything that you try here. Came in on a Friday afternoon to get some work done and get away from the chill in the air. The cafe was a great refuge, not very busy at the time I was in. The prices were perfect, and I had wished that I had come in there before the restaurant I went to go eat lunch at. I got a large green tea, which only cost around $1.25. There was free Wifi, and so I was able to sit in peace in the warmth and work on some papers. I only wish they stayed open later so I could stay longer. read more

I know the macaroons are becoming popular but not quite like the boba craze, which still has survived. After so many great reviews I finally was able to check this place out. Especially since it closes so early (3 pm). I know macaroons are usually small, but these macaroons are tiny. More like 1 bite necessary tiny. A tiny baked good for $1.50. Dough comes easy. Salted Caramel Macaroon: actual caramel filling but wasn't too sticky. so no caramel stuck in my teeth. The "buns" of the macaroon was okay. Somewhat crispy. However, I did like that there was a salted aftertaste which nicely satisfied the sweet and salty craving. Tiramisu: no tiramisu flavoring whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend this. Just eat the actual cake with the lady fingers and mascarpone cheese. Environment: DoLy's is somewhat hidden. It's located near the intersection of Broadway and Long Beach Blvd. The cafe was empty on Friday at 10am. The store has a stop and go kind of feeling. Although there are several tables to enjoy the food. In all, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place. I didn't quite enjoy them. I know Bottega Louie is quite a drive but that's a better place for macaroons. Nicer presentation and more flavors. Maybe I'll give it another shot but maybe I'm being too harsh. Don't let the location throw you off, it's actually a nice coffee shop that offers a wide variety of pastries, breakfast and lunch goodies, and good coffee. Their lattes are actually recognized by Long Beach votes and I could see why! I'd much prefer their vanilla lattes than Starbucks any day. I also had their breakfast burrito and my first reaction upon unwrapping it was 'oh hell yeah'. It's a solid sized burrito for a VERY reasonable price that contained ham, egg, cheese, and jalapeño. We only tried the vanilla macchiato and passion fruit iced tea but they were so good. The macchiato is not heavy whatsoever and the passion tea was the perfect amount of sweet. Parking can be tricky. My friend and I finally made it to DoLy's Delectables before they closed at 3pm. We wanted to try the french macaroons. I was happy that a place so near had them. They were good and I would go back for more but they weren't as good as I've had before. My favorite macaroons are from a place popular among other macaroon eaters. I tried to savor them as much as possible by eating ever so slowly. I ate my first selection salted caramel the sea salt was a very nice touch, brought out the caramel flavor-a nice compliment to the buttery sweetness. The next I tried was Vietnamese coffee, which was good but not my favorite and I couldn't distinguish how Vietnamese coffee flavor is different from regular coffee. The cream inside seemed like condensed milk. The last but not least was pistachio, the color was so pretty and the flavor was good. The shells were on chewy side, the "foot" on them a bit uneven and I would have loved a bit more cream but overall a good way to fill my macaroon craving when I can't get to L.A. Stopped in here for breakfast today. Loved it, and will be back regularly! Got a pumpkin cream filled pastry and a blueberry muffin. The blueberry muffin was tasty, and the pastry was perfectly flaky and not overly sweet, with a great flavor. But the stand out "delectable" was, without a doubt, the omelette on a bagel. It was by far the best egg and bagel sandwich I've ever had! I swear they must've used two eggs, because it was thick and delicious. Ham sausage egg and jalapeño perfectly mixed, perfectly cooked and just the right amount of jalapeño spice. It was a very filling meal in and of itself, and at a price of just under of $5, a great deal! Well done! read more

We ordered two breakfast sandwiches (egg, Swiss cheese and deli ham on white toasted bread) and two blended mochas. This is by far the best blended mocha I have ever had. The taste is still really strong and not washed out from using too much ice. Only downside is, it's pretty warm inside the restaurant so my mocha is literally melting as I wrote this. 16$ for all four items plus a hash brown which was really just a huge waffle fry. They have Delicious slices of bread pudding about the size of a slice of bread but a bit thinker. They are absolutely wonderful in taste, not overly sweet, not a shitty bland taste, just right and fabulous with each bite for any bread pudding fan. I became a fan of the quiche as well. Oh how it was very flavorful and blended well. It gets a solid "B+". I came here about 9:30 AM to try the French style Macaroon's I read such good things about on Yelp, but they weren't made yet, so I came back the next day. I have never had a French Macaroon in my life and I did enjoy them very much at $1.50 each. There are about 8 different flavors so you might hit and miss. I loved the passion fruit orange colored one and the salted caramel one. They are picture perfect and the coffee was good too. I had a Tuna sandwich at lunch the next day...but it was dry and bland I'm sad to say. Looks like a real good well-made sandwich except for the bland tuna part. After having lunch in the area, my friends and I wanted to get some coffee nearby, so we went on yelp and found this place. We had already parked in a parking structure for lunch, so we just walked over since it wasn't too far. I had been thinking of getting something sweet to drink, but when I spotted the colorful macarons in the display, I knew I had to get some of those. My friends also were excited by the macarons as well, so we all ended up asking the cashier about what flavors each color was and what she recommended. From what I can remember, the flavors that had been available that day were lavender (purple), raspberry lemon (yellow with red filling), pistachio (green), vanilla bean (cream color), Vietnamese coffee (light brown), blueberry (blue), and an orange-colored one (can't remember the flavor - salted caramel?). The cashier recommended the Vietnamese coffee and the raspberry lemon ones. The macarons were $1.50 each. The cashier was very nice and prompt with our orders. When we asked about the macaron flavors, she listed them off for us, repeated the flavors for us when asked, and seriously considered which ones were her favorites before sharing with us her recommendations. Most of us ended up purchasing a drink and 1-2 macarons. I ended up ordering an iced coffee (black), 1 lavender macaron, and 1 pistachio macaron. The coffee was pretty tasty and went well with the sweet macarons. The lavender macaron was surprisingly good. I sort of expected the lavender to be overpowering but that wasn't the case at all. The pistachio one was pretty good too - had a nice nutty flavor that went well with the sweetness. One of my friends got the Vietnamese coffee one and said it captured the concept of Vietnamese coffee pretty well, especially the condensed milk filling. My friends also said the raspberry lemon and vanilla bean macarons were pretty good as well. I would definitely recommend this place if you want some coffee and sweets. read more
