DomoDomo is by far one of my favorite places. I truly enjoy coming here. I need to make it here more often. Jane is spectacular, Wonderful, thoughtful, and pleasant to chat with. She took amazing care of us and really made us feel welcome and made excellent food and drink choices. Delicious Japanese food. We ordered the hand rolls, vegetable gyoza, and miso black cod. The hand rolls were pretty good, with the spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail being the better of the 3. The salmon was good but not very flavorful. The gyoza was very good, it had a super creamy filling. The miso black cod was amazing. It was the flakiest fish I have ever had. Came here with my partner on a Tuesday and made a same-day reservation about 30 minutes before, easy to book and plenty of availability. We were seated in the quieter back area, which made for a nice, relaxed date-night atmosphere. Lighting and noise levels were just right. We came during Restaurant Week and did the $60 menu. Appetizers (sashimi platter and tuna/salmon crostini) were small. For mains, we had the chef's choice premium sushi and the wagyu beef hot udon. The udon was the standout. Sushi was good, but nothing surprising if you're used to omakase. Spicy salmon hand roll over the toro. Desserts were hojicha tiramisu and black sesame panna cotta, tiramisu was the clear favorite. Mocktails (Earl Grey lemonade and Domodachi) were solid too. Overall, everything was good and more filling than expected. I came to Dodoma with my coworker on a Tuesday evening for dinner and it was so delicious! He started out with a complementary pumpkin soup and a little sake glass, which we thought was very flavorful and also so adorable! For dinner we ordered the roasted cauliflower à la carte dish to share along with the hot udon w. Washu beef. The udon was so flavorful and the noodles were so chewy. The sauce served with roasted cauliflower was delicious. We also shared this spicy toro maki roll which was absolutely amazing! Really enjoyed it. My coworker ordered a couple hand rolls for herself and I ordered the fatty tuna and yellow tail with lime pepper Nigiri. The fish was very fresh and the wasabi & ginger was SO GOOD. I mean not store bought at all. It tasted very fresh. Everything came out so timely. We both really appreciated the attentiveness and the service that was provided during our dinner. I did the omakase here and had a great experience! Cute place, was able to walk in on Friday at 6 pm. Service was great everything came out very quickly! I got a lychee martini to drink which was great! They give you a welcome bite, be careful it has a ton of cinnamon on it! Overall the omakase was good! The nigiri was great! I love coming to DomoDomo when I'm in New York, that I even recommended it to my sisters on a weekend trip. They had never been so I was so excited for them to try it. The food was delicious as always, but this time I was extremely disappointed with the service and that is what this review is mainly about. Our waiter Jaemo was not attentive at all. I noticed he paid more attention to his tables that had a party of 2, we were a party of 5. When we were finally ready to order, I couldn't even get him to look our way. I had to wave my hand to get his attention. We had other waitresses which were way more attentive, like Laura. If it wasn't for her, then we wouldn't have been able to order additional food or get other things we needed like a refill of waters for the table. One of the last times Jaemo came to our table, he then tried to be "helpful" and "small talk" and he did recognize that he hadn't paid attention to us as he made a comment and I agreed with him I don't think he expected that!! With the amount of food we ordered and the money spent, I would expect to receive the same type of great service I had experienced before and it is unfortunate that because of this time, I may not visit when I am in NY in the future. read more

TLDR: sushi was phenomenal, hand rolls are OK, service is subpar. We went with a group of 3 on a Saturday night. Had a reservation but check in was chaos and there was nowhere to stand because it was freezing outside. We checked in and people who checked in after us (same reservation time and party size) were getting seated before us. Finally got a table and someone asked us water preference immediately but we didn't have a server come over for close to 15 minutes. They don't leave you with extra water or soy sauce and it's a chore to flag them down and get it. Our drinks came out after food was set down and we had one appetizer that just never showed up and our server didn't notice. It was corrected pretty quickly after we pointed it out. The spicy salmon tuna comes are a little bite of heaven. Feels like a miss that our server wasn't recommending that out the gate. Chefs selection sushi was incredible and this would be the only reason i would come back here. Handrolls are OK but nothing special compared to some of the other stars in NYC. Domodomo strikes again! The food here is always delicious as the fish is fresh, and they put a unique spin on each dish! The staff is also very kind and attentive. To start I had a snow flower cocktail which was tasty. We shared the tuna cones, shrimp dumplings and octopus. All were tasty but the tuna cones were my favorite. For the handrolls, I had miso cod, blue crab, toro, and unagi. I was a bit hesitant with the unagi since it came with chocolate sauce but it complemented the fish nicely. My friend got the spicy salmon which was topped with potato chips which she enjoyed. All were tasty but my favorites were the miso cod and blue crab! The food is tasty and the fish is fresh but the eating experience reads messy. The handrolls are more like tacos with the fillings overflowing. Once you take a bite, the inside oozes out and falls out. The seaweed also retains moisture so it is difficult to take multiple bites of the handroll, thus leaving you with the first mouthful of fish and the second is rice and seaweed. I did like that there was sampler option that included many options of the nigiri and handrolls. Overall, I feel the price was expensive for what it was. There are many Japanese dining options within walking distance and I would try one of those next time I am in the area. read more

I came to DOMO DOMO twice already and I loved both of my visits. The "omakase" experience is a bit different compared to others. They offer their own interpretation, hence, "domokase". It's their own set course menu which includes many small dishes and premium seasonal sushi. The pictures I have is a combination of both dinner experiences. I don't remember everything I've had but oh my gosh! It was so goddamn yummy. Each bite was amazing. The service was fantastic as well despite being packed for both evenings. I love the ambiance! It is such a cute date night experience. The lights are dimmed, the noise isn't overwhelming, and the decor is lovely. The domokase set is seasonal so they change it up time to time. After visiting Domodomo for the first time last Saturday, it has quickly earned a well-deserving spot among my favorite restaurants in the city. Securing a reservation was easy and highly recommended. We arrived for dinner to find a cozy, sunlit ambiance and spacious, comfortable seating. The service was exceptional. The waiter was incredibly attentive and friendly. I opted for their signature tasting menu, the Domokase, which features beautifully curated and innovative small plates. It includes a raw sampler, grilled shrimp with apple, wagyu carpaccio, miso black cod, assorted sushi, a hand roll, and dessert. I selected the wagyu for the hand roll and hojicha tiramisu for the dessert. The entire tasting was outstanding--impeccably fresh and flavorful. The highlight had to be the miso black cod--rich, tender, and honestly perfect. I also tried my friend's sesame panna cotta dessert, which was equally impressive. For drinks, I ordered the sparkling jelly sake, which was presented beautifully with a fun, gelatinous texture. Definitely a must-try for anyone who enjoys fruity, refreshing cocktails. The total bill came out to about $230 without tax for two, which I felt was worth the quality, creativity, and service. Tldr; stellar food, attentive service, thoughtfully designed menu. We went on a Sat night with 6 people. I had made a reservation for 3 a couple of weeks prior, but the night before, I called and they easily added 3 more people to our party without a problem. Service was excellent, attentive and very friendly. The ambiance is warm, comfy, lively, and stylish. Sushi was terrific, but what really stood out were the unique dishes, their superb flavors, and the dipping sauces that came with each item to compliment it. I was so excited to finally try DOMODOMO as it has been on my list for a while now. We came here on a Friday night and we were able to make a last minute reservation. The restaurant itself is small, and fairly quiet. I like how it is decorated and is very earthy and open. We opted for the sushi and hand roll service which was $49 a person which in my opinion was very well priced for the variety and quality. You were able to pick 2 different hand rolls from the menu and the rest was a chef's selection of sushi, and a salmon dish. I love that it was coursed out, and each dish came quickly after we finished the last. My one issue I found with each course was that our waitress stated what each piece was so quickly and quietly, that at times we missed what she said and we were not sure what we were eating. That being said, everything was delicious, but that would be my one thing I would like if they took a little more time with. Additionally, my partner did order a lobster hand roll and was given a spicy yellowtail, but they still tasted great. We added the fried rice as well and next time I would probably skip that as I felt like the sushi and hand roll course was enough food. However, DO NOT SKIP the tiramisu. That was the unexpected star of the night, I would come back here just to get that dessert again it was so good. I am entirely mystified as to how this place has such high reviews! While the service we received was excellent - very attentive and friendly - the food was uniformly subpar. The crudo appetizer was one-note, swimming in sauce, stodgy. The Korean fried chicken, while crispy, was overly sweet and bland. The hand rolls were a huge disappointment. Soggy seaweed, cold, underseasoned rice, lackluster fish, and sauces that either added nothing to the roll, or dominated in flavor. We've been spoiled by both Nami Nori and KazuNori (both about five minutes away). I was hoping this was a hidden gem - not the case. read more

Server explained each course in detail for the omakase set when serving the dishes. Overall, I love the cooked foods more than the raw fish dishes. Half of the nigiris were less than desirable in terms of texture of the fish, very mushy though not fishy. The scollops were buttery and soft, very good. Squid ink pasta was unexpectedly delicious, it's so flavorful and with so many textures going on. I want a full serving of just this, since it screams clean plate club if you know what I mean. The food at Domodomo has always been a hit. This was my first visit at the NY location after a successful run at the NJ one. I like the option to share a Domokase or Hand Roll & Sushi tasting! Leaves room to try more on the menu. The sushi is fresh, and you cannot go wrong. Tried their Katsu Sandwich for the first time. While the texture and quality was great, I wished for more umami and slightly less sweetness. On its own, the sandwich tasted rather sweet. 3.5/5 The Octopus Entree was also a new experience for us at Domodomo and this was absolutely wonderful. 5/5 Surprisingly delicious was their matcha ice cream. I came here for my birthday with my family. I've been to many sushi restaurants but this place is by far the best. The fish was superb quality and very fresh. It's a small place but it doesn't feel crowded. We sat at a booth table in the middle of restaurant and what we had thought was a cold breeze from the door, it turns out there was a vent right under our table that was blowing cold air. Since it's the winter, it is already cold outside and to add this blowing air at our feet it felt even colder. I didn't want to take off my jacket. If we had figured it out earlier, we would have mentioned it our waiter. Our waiter suggested that all of us get the omakase for timing purposes. Otherwise, if your group doesn't care that plates come out at different times, then your group could order whatever they wanted. We had 2 people order the Domokase ($95), another person got the Sushi/ Handroll Course ($49), and another person ordered the Korean Fried Chicken. They did their best to time all of the sushi dishes to come out together. Everything is great here and to be honest, the price wasn't that bad compared to other omakase restaurants in the city.
