Very friendly.) Seared Ahi Burger - cooked perfectly, I got the sauce on the side. You get a kosher pickle. Yummy! Mahi Mahi Fish Taco Place - daughter said this was very good. She did laugh at the tiny amount of black bean salad you get. Fish and Chips - daughter enjoyed this dish. Fries were nice and crispy with a nice seasoning on them (yes, I sampled them). We did go to the bar, the bartender was very nice and was helpful with our questions. I must say, that their cocktails are pricey at this place. Tasty, but weak. At first we were planning to go to a different restaurant, but there was a huge wait time, so we decided to come here due to the many popular reviews. Inside the restaurant seemed very busy as there were many people, however, the view was very nice as the beach was right in front of the restaurant. I ordered the Patty Melt, and I would have to say it tastes like a typical grilled cheese sandwich with a patty. This sandwich reminded me of an In-N-Out burger, but as a sandwich. It wasn't the best sandwich I had, but it wasn't the worst as well. Considering the view is very nice, it makes up for the subpar food. I also tried some of the Grilled Chicken Melt, that was also mediocre as well (but not as heavy as the Patty Melt). I would say come here for the nice beach view! read more

Deli with a view! If you're down at Newport Beach by the pier and want to eat at a place that has a little bit of a view, this is a great spot. We're in from out of town sonof course our goal was to find a restaurant near the beach so we could see the sand, water, and waves. I don't think anything is going to get much closer to that than Dori's. We ended up getting the table right at the front entrance so we had a view and it almost felt like we were eating outside. Dori's is a cute place. They call it a deli but it has a lot more on the menu than just deli sandwiches. I was surprised how big the bar area was, so along with that they have a pretty big drink menu. I just got a local beer which I believe was Stone and my beer was called Salt and Lime...I think. Anyway the beer was good but everyone else at my table got one of the mixed drinks. They named the drinks funny names....most of which I don't remember.....we were all drinking. The one I do remember was called "Beach Please"....funny play on words. They do have a lot of sandwiches and I was thinking of either getting the Reuben or the meatball, but when I saw they had Chicken Waffle on the menu I knew that i had to try it. It even said it was a local favorite, and i got a fried egg on top. It came with butter and maple syrup so i had the best of sweet and savory all on 1 plate. This place is 3.5's for me. The Pistol Pete was delicious, as was the Greek salad. We liked the meatball sub, Rocky Balboa, but both needed different bread choices. Trolling the mean streets of Newport Beach on Christmas Eve, heading toward the pier, I was hopeful that there'd be someplace both open and featuring food. As a native, anything within a 1/4 mile radius of the Newport Pier is generally verboten (SoCal equivalent of "bridge & tunnel" crowd) but during a holiday, rules don't apply. Dory Deli did the trick. Supposedly only serving food for another 30 minutes, the wait for that food led me to believe that they went onto the streets and scrounged up a cook after they took our orders. It took a little while. Did that matter? Not at all. Dory Deli was serving up the best ever 80/90's music playlist, loud and proud. Couple that with alcohol and who cares when the food comes out? The food: Banh Mi looked good and received favorable comments. Fries were acceptable (hot and crispy despite not being best in class). And Clam Chowder was thick and odd-colored, rating about 3 on a 5 point scale. Very friendly service here and though I'd not choose it were a plethora of places open and serving, I can see the attraction of drinks, music, and something greasy to share. Dory Deli did the trick on Christmas Eve, perhaps even a little better than I imagined they could. If you're heading to the Newport Pier with your bath towel and torn off jeans this place will enrich your overall look. read more

Before I begin about what a great setting it is, with its wide-open walls facing the beach and a beautiful bar also facing the beach, I must say it has consistently the best staff of any restaurant I frequent. Menu pricing: on the Big black board are different than when you're what you're actually charged. I ordered Huevos rancheros which was supposed to be eight dollars and then I look at the total and it's $11 for the dish I asked why it was more and she pointed to the printed menu which said $11 which is fine and dandy. But somebody needs to get up on the big black board and change the prices it's a blackboard with Jack they can fix it. I thought that was very annoying. We rode bikes from our hotel in Huntington Beach to Newport Beach here for lunch and settled on Dory Deli. We were so glad we did. To begin, the female server at the register was so patient and friendly and made some really great suggestions to us for our order. I tried a raspberry tea on ice and it was extremely refreshing after the bike ride in. The poke and chips were so fresh and the tuna really smooth, it was surely just made. We also tried small containers of the caprese salad and chicken salad with red grapes. If we didn't have a long bike ride back, I would've had a cocktail or two as well! They made me get ice at the bar which took about 7 minutes. Ridiculous. The woman at the register should have given me a cup full of ice. She didn't even tell me the ice machine was broken! 4. Do not get the meatball sandwich. Meatball Sandwich was cold had very little cheese and barely any tomato sauce. Sandwiches are not served with a side making it a very expensive sandwich. So I got a cup of clam chowder. Chowder was ok. Total: $22 for a drink, sandwich and cup of chowder. Not worth it. 5. Don't come here for a quick business lunch. This place has no cell reception and I was working. I asked if I could connect to their WIFI and they declined. Very tacky in my opinion. It costs nothing to let a guest use your wifi. Have been going to Dory Deli consistently for several years; the service has never been very good (actually pretty poor) but the food quality and consistency has really gone downhill in the last year and now they are egregiously cutting back on their portions. A couple examples: What used to be a large coffee still is called large and costs just as much but is now served in a medium cup and not filled to the top. A side of bacon was 4 pieces but recently was 2 - when I questioned the person that brought it to me the response was just "I only take and deliver orders, I don't have anything to do with the food." Decent location, just don't go if you're expecting good food, good service or decent portions. This place was pretty good. They had a nice patio area set up for Covid with artificial turf, picnic benches, and umbrellas as well as seating next to the roll up doors so pleanty of space. Staff was on top if their game keeping tables clean and available for the next guest. There was a nice selection of beer (about 5 crafts) and some good-sounding cocktails. Pricing was a little high for the volume in my opinion but the food was good. I had the Mahi mahi tacos and they were tasty but it was $12 for 2 tacos and a handful of tortilla chips. I've been coming to dorys for years and always had a great experience. Great food great ambiance always. However lately the service has been subpar at most and it's extremely disappointing. Elvyra ( think that's how you spell it) seems to be a newer bartender and she has made me never want to come back. She has served me twice and was so rude and unpleasant. The last time I waited for her attention at the bar standing there for 20 mins just for her to even look at me. No one else was around. What happened to all the nice people that have worked there? I had a kale salad but I got it half mixed greens and half kale . I like kale but don't love when it's a full kale salad . Their sundried tomatoes were a highlight in the salad !! Very delicious. My husband had the dori burger which was delicious as well but a bit overwhelming. Don't order it unless you have a huge appetite. Also be aware that Parking is tough and expensive.
