We were able to get a reservation and upon arrival, got a seat on the patio with the best views of the sunset. We opted for two different fish dishes to share and both were excellent! We also started with the crab wontons, which I'm still dreaming about. The service was excellent and you honestly cannot beat their location. Such a good photo op spot. There is no question that their hula pie is best on island and their calamari is incredible. But something about the fish meals really disappointed me this go around?? The rice is INCREDIBLY bland. If it says comes with 'veggies' it was a singular carrot and singular broccolini stalk. The fish was not really well seasoned and dare I say overcooked (on both fish dishes). Have a small obsession with this place. Lol! I love the Duke's in Malibu so we really enjoy this location being within walking distance of our hotel. The seafood risotto is amazing but the breakfast is VERY GOOD. The view is incredible, as well, + great live music. Friendly staff, especially the hosts that seat you. But if you don't have a reservation you get a mid view, not as nice as the one with reservations. Food was decent, some of it needed a bit more salt in my opinion. I got the prime rib dish and it was pretty good. Just needed some extra salt. My partner got the chicken and ribs and also had to add salt to the chicken. Although its a chain, this spot fully immerses you in the "Hawaii experience" and it shouldn't be passed up. Located right on the water, this place transports you to the ultimate vacation spot with tiki torches and palm trees galore. They service was the best I experienced the entire trip with detailed descriptions and comical remarks. All the food was incredible...truly couldn't make a wrong decision. We come to Duke's for dinner every time we come to Maui. The vibes and oceanfront location are hard to beat and the overall experience is usually good, but the food can be a bit underwhelming. Not this time!!! Our whole experience was exceptional!! We were quickly seated on the patio (lovely), right next to the bar musician playing very loud (less so). I asked our server if there was a way to turn down the music, and sure enough, the manager turned it down (thank you!) so that other diners probably didn't notice, but sitting right next to it we were then able to enjoy the music while having conversation and really enjoy our evening. Our server was very pleasant, professional and efficient which added to our overall experience. They have widened their dinner menu to include more options and more non-seafood options- including prime rib, which was a nice surprise as our group has a couple "no seafood" people. We ordered prime rib, ribs & chicken, grilled fish, and steamed fish for our party of 7. The prime rib was truly amazing across 3 orders- cooked perfectly, great quality meat, served with a real jus, horseradish, mashed potatoes, and beautifully cooked broccoli rabe and carrot. I would come back just for that dish over and over again. The rest of the food was enjoyable. The only disappointing dish was the steamed fish, wrapped in banana leaf and served with 3 shrimp, sesame oil, a couple of thin mushroom slices, and 2 scoops of rice. The dish needed seasoning, some fresh colorful vegetables, and less rice. But 6 great dishes out of 7? Sign me up! We had two slices Hula Pie for dessert and they disappeared so fast you would have thought we hadn't just eaten dinner! It has been a tradition our kids have loved for over 15 years for a reason! Went a few times while staying at the resort. Enjoyed everything we tried except found the Hula pie to be quite overrated. Just tastes like vanilla ice cream, nothing special. The Duke's fish was excellent and I could lick that lemon butter sauce... but I was still hungry after. Chicken and ribs had nice flavor but chicken was a little dry. Banana nut pancakes were good but no matter how much I try to love them I find Mac nuts too be too bitter, the coconut syrup was missing something. Loved the Loco Moco. The first time our waters tasted like they came out of the pool but not the 2nd time. Always great service and pretty atmosphere. Wish they'd add a couple more affordable pool/app options. read more

Easily the worst meal and service we had on our week in Maui, and we waited close to two hours to have it. Ran out of food and wasn't really even apologetic for it. Server had little personality and front desk felt the same way . I understand they probably get a lot of people complaining but this is a restaurant with $50 entrees, and you have to maintain a high level of on professionalism. Food was average. And the Mai tais tasted watered down and weak, compared to about 5 other places we had been to. Great setting and pie but too much competition. Fresh delicious seafood with a view all with a nice price tag. This is the only restaurant onsite at Outrigger Honua Kai Resort & Spa serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We ate here our first day for lunch out of convenience after just landing a couple of hours before. We were quickly seated and attended to momentarily after. I wanted something light and refreshing so I ordered the Waipoli Farms Cesar with Chicken, this was alright. Overly lemony dressing and super bland chicken. My son got the Kalua Pork Sandwich which was excellent. Highly recommend that! (Wish I would've chosen that) My daughter got the Fish and Chips; freshly fried fish yet not giving you that heavy feeling after finishing your meal. Would've have been perfect if not slightly over fried leaving the fish a tad dry. Lastly, our toddler got the Keiki Teriyaki Chicken and once again another bland piece of chicken with a bottle of teriyaki sauce poured over it seemed. Terribly disappointed. To drink each of our teens got the POG Slushie and loved those. Overall, I'm sure if we all chose seafood dishes or local Hawaiian meals we would have been more satisfied. Stopped in after a beach outing and sat at the bar. I asked for a Lava Flow and was told dissmissively by the bartender "Don't know what that is." Odd, since I had my first Lava Flow at this exact place about 20 years ago, and several times since.Ok ,Whatever. I then asked for a piña colada instead, but not too sweet, and got an eye roll in response. Not a great look in a tourist-facing bar. I guess a Haole in his late 50's slinging drink, feeling superior to the customers is something he's proud of. The drink itself was nothing special, especially at $16. Fish tacos were $27, which would be fine if the service and attitude matched the price. They didn't. Between the dismissive service and the premium pricing, this isn't a place I'll return to. Plenty of nearby spots understand that hospitality still matters. read more

As a California girl, Duke's has always been part of special occasions and memorable meals. I grew up going to the one in Malibu. Needless to say, there's a certain level of expectation when coming here, I've now been to this location twice and the one in Kauai as well. Every time, it hits just under the mark. Maybe it's the prices that make everything taste a little less than incredible. Drinks: 3 out of 5. For the price, they are sweet and small, not impressive but fun for 1 round. Food: 3 out of 5. It should simply be better. I had a Mac nut crusted catch of the day for $42. That should be unreal! It was just fine. Needed a sauce. It was dry. The wedge was great though! Ambience: 5 out of 5 Service: 5 out of 5 So, that puts them at a 4 star rating. I would love to go back and be wowed, but I'm not sure I'll be visiting again. read more

My favorite restaurant in my entire visit to Maui! We loved it so much we were going for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is right down a path from the Westin properties. The service was exceptional, the food was amazing, and I loved the outdoor/indoor atmosphere. The mai tai (classic) was the best I had in the entire trip. I also had the lychee martini which was just as good. The iced coffee comes with your choice of coconut or macadamia nut syrup. I opted for the macadamia nut and it was delicious. On the topic of macadamia nut, the banana mac pancakes were delicious. It comes with 3 pancakes topped with macadamia nuts and fresh bananas with a side of coconut sauce and syrup. I'm honestly shocked by the positive reviews, our family had a terrible experience here. The food was not worth the price at all and very underwhelming. The service was even worse: it took over an hour just to place our order, the server said he would come back and didn't, and we had to flag him down. The restaurant wasn't even busy, yet everything moved painfully slowly. Nice place with pretty darn good food. We shared several appetizers instead of an entree. Great calamari, sauce is wonderful. Ribs are too darn hot, and I love spicy. They hurt. Moist and juice chicken and the other part of my combo was the ribs. Sweet tangy sauce. I wonder if the appetizer ribs are different? Not too fatty and crispy top layer of meat. My wife had the burger. Nothing special, just a solid burger patty. Doubtful homemade recipe, just a solid burger to eat. I would come back again for dinner service.
