Opening day! Exciting! Arrived at 5:15 and found street street parking easily. Restaurant is clean and simple with posters on the walls and a flat screen mounted on the opposite side. One large communal table in the center and 10 other tables. In the back corner you can watch noodles being made fresh. The restaurant was warm with the sun shining in through the entire glass entry. We were greeted with great big smiles and seated. We marked up our menu and the food began to arrive within 5 minutes. Complimentary chicken and cabbage dumplings-great sauce. Dumpling was tasty and great texture to the skin. Not too thick. What we ordered: *Pork and chive dumplings- good but I liked the chicken better. *Spicy green beans- this would be a repeat item every time. *Fish with spicy black bean sauce- fish was juicy and cooked well but the batter was underwhelming and soggy and the sauce was very concentrated and salty. I hope they can work this dish out. Portion size was great. *7 color tofu- SPICY - the accompanying sauce helped calm the heat (similar to a sweet n sour sauce) *Ox tail torn noodle- noodles so thick and the chew was perfect. I wanted to eat it all but knew better to save space - would def get noodles again. Xlb-good, could be better though. Soup to protein ratio close- needed more of the filling *Ice cream in caramel sugar cloud- quality vanilla ice cream, texture close to gelato. The cloud could've been lighter and thinner spun sugar. Would've loved a tiny bit of fruit. (Complimentary as well) *Egg puffs with chocolate and strawberry sauce on the side - hmmm I hope we just got a bad batch... they were wafer like almost stale. Chocolate and strawberry sauce helped. Service: attentive and very friendly, waters constantly refilled as we ordered lots of spicy dishes and it was hot out today. The team checked in regularly to ensure we were happy with each dish and we had enough to eat. The young lady making the noodles presented some of the dishes with much pride. We saw the chef come out of the kitchen as they were assembling the dessert cloud. Recommendations: Would like to see the sauces come in different colored/ sized ramekins. We had so many at one point that we forgot to use them thinking they were for a past dish. Fresh plates when transition from the meal to dessert More strategically placed lighting. TLDR: Probably would give this place 3.5 stars. There are better on El Camino nearby for the price esp, taste, and portion, but I would give them the benefit of the doubt since they are still new and they make pretty good fresh-made dumplings. Side note--they are the ones to take the place of the Cantonese cafe staple, Cafe Mario...My mom and her 3 friends would finish their morning Zumba and gossip there afterwards over a single shard bowl of noodle soup...possibly that's how they went out of business ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Wait: No wait on a Friday 1pm Atmosphere: Nicely painted modern walls now they have slightly renovated the restaurant space. However, it can get a bit dim with the minimal lighting. there are about 8 rectangular tables seating 4-6 and a large high rectangular communal counter in the middle to seat up to 12. Menu: Pretty nice array of different fresh dumplings, noodle soups, etc! I honestly couldnt decide on everything as a party of one. Food is maybe a dollar or few pricier than other similar restaurants relative to portion though. Food: Definitely my favorite thing by far was the Sczechuan Wontons ($6)! I was expecting thick egg noodle rather than something like an udon. It was pretty bland too rather than the dark soy sauce flavor in traditional ones--I had to wave a waitress down for soy sauce. Service: Could be a bit better. The girls working were nice, but I feel especially when it gets busy on the weekends there needs to be a designated person attending to tables rather than making dumplings. It would also help if they put the condiments on each table...I was surprised they had no soy sauce or chili oil on each table. It might even save some labor time. Final Thoughts: Maybe I'll give this place another try, but I just wasn't super satisfied after spending $31 on my solo meal. I would only come back for the szechuan dumplings as of now. Busy street, don't expect to eat outside in the general area. Pros: Wide variety of dumplings as with other comparable dumpling places (e.g. iDumpling in Redwood City, Dumpling Empire in SSF). Some selection of other dishes as well, such as noodles and appetizers. However, none stood out over how they're done at other similar places. Cons: Bean Sauce Noodles were VERY salty... a little too much so, and the portion was small. The noodles are not dao xiao mian but might be hand drawn, not sure. Getting into here is a pain if you aren't coming from southbound. Coming from northbound you have to loop though local neighborhoods to turn back as it's located on a stretch of street with a divider. Very limited street parking and it's a very busy street - exert caution getting out of your vehicle. There appears to be a small parking area that you have to drive uphill to get to next to the store, but I'm not sure if that belongs to them or the other stores nearby. I personally felt the portions of food were small relative to the price. The price was roughly what you pay at dumpling places, but the amount of food is smaller. Note that I've only gotten takeout from this place before. Shrimp and pork dumplings had very fine / meager bits of shrimp -- seemed to skimp on this ingredient. Inside is a little small and slightly cramped, but the tables and utensils were really clean. The first time my family came here, we were all really impressed with the soup dumplings. There's street parking, I am not sure if there is a parking lot, but I've been told that there is one behind the restaurant. The restaurant is pretty tiny and to get to your seat, you have to walk around the restaurant to get to the other side, there is a section where you could walk, but the yelp wait list stand is sorta in the way with some plants. I went there twice in 2 days to try it out. The first day, we ordered a bunch of food, beef tendon, pork knuckles, dumplings, XLB, knife cut noodles, san tung chicken wings, green onion pancakes, and their dan dan noodles. Their XLB is nothing special, but their dumplings are handmade, you'll see a little lady behind the counter with her hair net making the dumplings, if you're impressed with it, they do sell it in bags to take home! Their chicken wings were pretty good, it's funny how they named it San Tung though, it's similiar to it though. The beef tendon was meh, kinda dry not as good as the pork knuckle it was very juicy and saucy. Their knife cut noodles were good with beef..... their noodles were not hand made as i thought it would be. The second day when I went with my mom and ordered the pork one, the noodles were overcooked and my mom asked if it was hand made - she said no, only the torn noodles were hand made. Pretty good Chinese food, it's a good spot to check out if you want some dumplings since they have a variety of dumplings all day. The har gow and shumai was a little overpriced. The surprised shrimp was basically hargow but Pan fried, I did like the sauce though. I think the thing I liked the most was the tofu. It was crunchy and very flavorful. I really enjoyed the taste and I thought it was cooked very well. There's street parking but it can be kinda hard to find parking right next to it since it's close to Amami. They have Yelp wait which is also very convenient. Bathroom was a little dirty but overall this spot isn't bad. Usually there's a lady in the back making the dumplings, so you know they're fresh. Seafood Squid Ink was more of a novelty as you don't really taste much saltiness from the squid ink. "San Tung" wings are nothing close to the original so don't order if that's what you're looking for (will not satisfy the craving). Service was definitely lacking. After an hour, we asked for the status of our XLB and they said they would "check." Not long after asking, the dumplings came out and they were NOT worth the wait. There's nothing really special about this place. It's yet another Chinese restaurant serving food that they wouldn't serve to their own family. At least I hope not. Having lived in Hong Kong, I am well aware of what good Chinese food (Cantonese, Mandarin, Schezuan) tastes like. I even had dinner in the iconic "Jumbo" boat restaurant in Victoria harbor. There's something about most Chinese restaurants in SF that's unique. I have to agree with Curb Your Enthusiasm when Paul Kind says you can't get good Chinese food in California. I agree. I have yet to find it. Outside of China, your best bet is NYC. This place isn't much different from Panda Express. It's Chinese food for Americans. Checked this place out during our visit to SF. Small place, service and food was subpar. Not that clean and we are out of paper plates. Had to ask for water since we weren't served with one. Wouldn't come back that's for sure. read more

Our favorite hole in the wall mom and pop shop. Paper plates, disposable chopsticks no frills authentic Chinese food. Reminds me of walking down the streets of Taipei or Shanghai eatery. read more
