We loved the spicy fish in house broth. Enormous portion, cabbage and ginger throughout, tons of fish, loved the szechuan tingle that it left on my tongue. Scallion pancake and the chicken bao we ordered we also delicious. The boiled chicken and corn dumpling was perhaps the least interesting but still pretty good. This is one of our favorite places. Bonus that we can also walk to it but we'd be willing to bus or drive to it too. Wonderful pork soup dumplings, thin skin, lots of soup. Other dumplings are great too. Pork & chive and also their fish and chive. Fish and chive dumplings are not fishy at all and has juice, and is a lighter alternative to pork dumplings. Try the beef chow fun too. Beef is fresh, not gristly, and the stir fry has "wok hei" which has a slightly smokey, very lightly charred essence, which imparts complexity. Most restaurants version of chow fun is just oily. Not theirs. Nice owner, good service. Wonderful back patio that welcomes pets. read more

Everything was really delicious - we ordered the sizzling rice seafood soup (excellent broth), dry fried string beans were a standout. My daughter enjoyed the beef fried rice and steamed bao, my husband and I loved the chili oil dumplings. Food was delicious! Highly recommend their signature dish, crab roe over rice, served in a claypot with a perfect light rice crust. There's not too much I can say about the individual dishes as I was with a group and went along with the flurry of orders at our table. This location is more expensive than the other Dumpling Kitchens. The interior was very nice, so maybe that's why. Service was nice as well, and one of the servers took a photo of us! No meal is complete without dessert, and that stuck out to me the most. After hearing my friend exclaim, "My favorite is the Steamed Chocolate Dumplings, but nobody else ever wants those," I had to give them a try. Why would no one else want to try chocolate dumplings? Like any other dumpling, the contents are going to be hot. The chocolate was HOT HOT. LIQUID HOT. Hot chocolate hot. Had two friends in town from Boston and we had an excellent Xmas dinner at my fave neighborhood spot! We ordered the soup dumplings, the Shanghai baked pork dumplings, the steamed barbecue pork buns (do you detect a theme, heh?), the onion pancakes, and the divine, iconic garlic eggplant. My friends wanted the scallops with asparagus, which was fine, very fresh. I wanted to try the new shrimp and pumpkin (!) dish but they weren't that experimental. Next time! Happily, they have added brown rice to the menu which is SO much more flavorful and healthy than white rice. The restaurant was packed but as always the service was gracious and accommodating. My friends were impressed and took home enough for a small lunch. Lovely meal! read more

Good food with a few small issues that I think will get ironed out through the soft opening process. The service was quite slow/poor and I put this down to the soft opening, as I reckon this would be immediately fixed by hiring a few more employees. Seems like the few existing ones just had a bit too much on their plate and it resulted in dishes getting delivered to the wrong table, etc. For the restaurant itself, it's actually a really nice setting especially the outdoor patio. Just had another incredible experience here at Dumpling Kitchen. The service we received from the staff, who were cordial, patient, and respectful, not trying to over-sell us anything expensive, was impeccable. The staff comes back to ask how we're doing, if the food is tasteful and satisfactory, and if we need anything. They really do take the extra time to make our experience and dining worthwhile. You can't ask for a better group of people. The food is especially good. We had Xiao Long Bao, pea sprout veggies, pepper beef, won ton & veggies, fried rice, and green beans. Extraordinary and perfectly made. We've been to Dumpling Home and Dumpling Story within San Francisco, we can validate that Dumpling Kitchen is tremendous. Hadn't noticed this restaurant in the neighborhood before so decided to stop by and try. We got A01 - Steamed Soup Pork Dumplings, A02 - Steamed Giant Crab Dumplings, A14 - Steamed Scallop & Shrimp Har Gow, and F02 - Chicken Chow Mein. The soup dumplings and chow mein were some of the best I've had. The scallop and shrimp har gow was good as well. I would not recommend the giant crab dumplings. We got them last and just left a bad/funky taste in our mouths. We sat in their back patio which has tons of space and is super cute. The service was prompt and checked in on us often. I like that they have soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil on the table to freely use. If you're craving dumplings, dim sum, or Chinese food I definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

pretty good chinese food but it's a little expensive vs what you can get at other places, but the ambiance is really nice and you won't have to wait to be seated even at peak times. everything is pretty textbook, besides the pan fried pork bun and xlb. they have more dough on them than i'd like-- the majority of the pork buns are just the bun and the xlb aren't as thin as i'd like (but they Are HUGE) sometimes it'll be hard to get the server's attention, or they might forget a request you make (or just take a while to get around to it). we asked for a to-go box but they took so long we just gave up and left LOL read more

Went ~8 PM on Friday night and it was half filled -- had a decent number of seats so wouldn't ever think you would need to wait. Staff were friendly and we promptly got seated. In terms of decoration, my one complaint is that I sat next to a corner with a pillow and it felt cramped. Food was ok, but extremely hot when first served. We got: - BBQ pork bao: 3/5 honestly, tasted like a typical pork bao you would get at any Chinese bakery. - Beef and chive steamed dumpling: 3/5 I love steamed dumpling and I quite enjoyed it but it wasn't anything special. - Eggplant with garlic sauce: 3/5 eggplant was cooked well and the dish was flavorful. It was just a bit too saucy and heavier than I expected. - Szechuan fish fillet with house broth: 4/5 Fish was cooked well. The broth was citrusy, sour, but good. I never had anything like it and was very pleasantly surprised. - Signature citrus pu'uer tea: 1/5 I could not finish the tea. It just did not taste great. Plus, the teapot didn't even have a lid and it was made of glass/plastic which did not seem to maintain the warmness of the tea. read more

Came here with a friend on a Monday night, we were greeted and seated right away! The space was cute, not too busy but still quite a bit of people. Everything on the menu looked so good and it was hard to narrow down what we wanted. We tried their soup dumplings which were so tasty, the mixed chow mein and the shredded pork & garlic. Our service was really good and they served us really quickly although our xiao long bao was sticking and it broke multiple times and we had to reorder them. When the food arrived it looked really good and boy was I right. The XLB and the pan-fried pork buns were nice and juicy, and they had a bunch of flavor. Decided to try out this dumpling restaurant in noe valley. I was pleasantly surprised by the food! We ordered the soup dumplings and the Shang hai pan fried dumplings. Both were really delicious, had great flavor. Only downside is that the menu is a bit pricey for these items. Large dog friendly back patio where you can enjoy yummy dumplings and other top tier Chinese dishes. We had the steamed xiaolongbao, pan fried dumplings, string beans, and spicy fish in broth. Everything tasted great! One thing to note is that the pan fried dumplings have a great crispy fried bottom, but did not have soup inside like some other places. It's still tasty but my personal preference for pan fried dumplings is a lot of juicy juice inside. The XLB did have a lot of juicy juice tho! My husband loved the spicy fish in broth. I reluctantly write this review - out of pure selfishness and fear that it will be more difficult for me to easily eat here. Dumpling Kitchen is phenomenal and possibly the best kept secret in Noe Valley. My partner and I ate lunch on the lovely patio, received impeccable service, and enjoyed every minute of our visit! We started with the vegetarian dumplings, followed by the bok choy with garlic, as well as the Szechuan fish fillet with pickled cabbage in the house broth. So. Delicious.
