MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. I can't even tell you how the pizza is - never got to try it. We had heard so many great things about ESP we were excited to give it a try since the new location was closer to home. Due to health problems for my daughter and her twins we opted for delivery - kids were so happy- they had never had take out pizza before - just homemade. About an hour after placing the order (mid afternoon) we got a message with pic indicating pizzas had been delivered. I have no idea who got the pizzas, but I've lived here for 13 yrs and did not recognize the house in the pic. My friends and I came here after seeing how long the line was at Homeslice down the street and the fact that it was pouring rain. We were driving back home and saw this pizza joint and decided to try it out on a whim. Best decision as I didn't know they sell thin crust pizza. Probably the thinnest crust pizza I've had in Austin! I tried one of their current special of the day: hatch Chile pizza with pork and cabbage. The crust was very crisp and the pizza was well seasoned! It definitely is a small joint and luckily the weather was bad to where we were the second customer in the joint. We ordered the Bacon, Gorgonzola and mushroom pizza. It was delicious. I was disappointed in myself for not having ordered the spinach on top, but it was still delicious regardless. We showed up during sxsw, so I was glad they have a location that is a little hidden (at least for me it was. The pizza is a little pricy but so are the ingredients. What I did not enjoy was there was no hand soap in the bathroom. the bottle was dry.. sooo when was the last time there was handwashing going on here. I'm sure the kitchen staff have their own separate sink facilities so that's not the issues (gulp, I hope). But I asked for soap, got it after some weird looks. Really? you're shocked I'd like to wash my hands before eating? hmmm. Then and only then was I worried. I passed it off as they probably were just surprised they were out of soap. Lest we hope! From the outside of this pizza place you would think twice before coming in, but boy does the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover" come into play. Visited this restaurant on a Friday afternoon. Place was quite slow, and only had a few ready to order slices to choose from. I ended up ordering a slice of sausage, bacon and onion, and 1 garlic knot. Lady who took my order was very friendly and polite. Anyways, I waited a bit for my pizza and garlic knot to warm up in the oven. Once I got my pizza I noticed right away how thin it was. I'm usually not a fan of thin crust because most time it taste like your eating a cracker with sauce on top. I was impressed at how crunchy and flavorful the pizza was. Not my typical type of pizza I would order, but I will say for a thin crust pizza it's one of the best I have had. As for the garlic knots I wasn't really impressed at all. Felt like I was eating a dinner roll with a garlic butter sauce slopped on top. Sauce came along with the garlic knot. I would totally recommend this place. Pretty disappointed. $42 for (2) 14" pizzas that were room a little cold or room temp at best when delivered. Maybe being thinner means they don't retain heat? Unsure. But I don't want my expensive pizza to be cold. The sausage and meatballs were also a bit flavorless. This is the second time I've had east side pies, and both times have been an average experience. While I understand East Side Pies is great at using mostly local goods, I think this prevents a certain demographic from approaching these delicious pies. The staff has always been so lovely and informative (also horribly awkward at times). Make your pizzas more affordable and you'll be on your way to the best of Austin pizza. read more

I've been meaning to try this place for awhile now. I'm a fan of thin crust pizza and this spot looked like it fit the bill. I just had a few minutes for lunch, so I popped in for a quick slice. My first impression of the place is that its really tiny. I don't think 20 people could sit inside. I'm sure it does a lot of take out and delivery though, since I saw two guys waiting for to go pies and another guy coming back from a delivery. I got a slice of pepperoni, and they warmed it up in the oven. There was a good amount of pepperoni on the slice, which is always the first thing I notice. There wasn't a large amount of cheese, but sometimes with thin crust and a quality cheese it doesn't require a lot. There also seemed to be a nice amount of sauce. Some places are scared to properly sauce thin pizza, not this place. The pizza was very good. The crust was really, really good. The sauce had a subtle quality to it, a little too subtle to be perfect, but it was still good. The garlic knots looked great, but I am saving them for next time. East Side Pies II just opened up about a month ago and since then I have gone 4 times to grab some East Side Pockets ($4 bucks each) and garlic knots every time. I am happy that there is now a location for East Side besides just on the east side of Austin. I think the intent of opening up a delivery or take-out only joint, & being located on Airport Blvd, is a REALLY good thing for us in the Hyde Park area and those that surround the Barfly's, Kick Butt Coffee, and Groovy & Biscuits crowd when we want pizza delivered to our front door. The Parlor North Loop does not deliver. House Pizzeria does not deliver. The only other option you have for pizza to be delivered is a major corporate pizza place like Papa John's (in the Mueller District shopping mall). Now don't get me wrong I was a little disappointed that this location doesn't sell by the slice (like the Parlor North Loop does down the road) but honestly, if I want a pizza I will make the effort to go a little further down North Loop to Epoch Coffee for an East Side pie slice. Slices are sold there for $3.50 and I consider it a perfect way to sample or preview what you like from Epoch Coffee before you make your final decision to commit to purchasing a whole pizza from East Side Pies II off 53rd 1/2 Street. It's a local business and it's got dang good pizza delivery for Hyde Park. I recommend the East Side pockets if you can't commit to a pizza. They are only $4 and fulfilling if you purchase a $4 pack of garlic knots to go along with it. The homemade marinara sauce is very tasty and not overpowering. I have had both the feta, spinach and red pepper pocket & the jerk chicken & green chilies pocket as well. I LOVE the jerk chicken & green chilies. It is amazing! Pair up your take out pizza with some good Maine Root bottled sodas that are all natural and handcrafted. I like the Mandarin Orange soda. read more

East Side is great! Clearly one of the best pizza restaurants in all of Austin. I'm a huge fan of both the super thin crust, and extremely fresh and flavorful ingredients. We started out with a Greek salad, which was actually amazing. The veggies just TASTED fresh, and the dressing made in house complimented the salad terrifically. We then had the Marge, with added sausage. The sausage is absolutely fantastic- I mean, WOW. Here's my constructive criticism: -It took quite a while for our Pizza to make its way to the table. There was at least a 20 minute gap between us finishing our salads and starting our pizzas (and the place wasn't even busy). -I love the choice of cherry tomatoes on a pizza. The sweetness of them adds a great amount of flavor into the pizza, however the shape of them makes it hard for them to actually stay on the pizza. If you're going to add cherry tomatoes to pizza, it needs to be cut differently so that it actually can stay on the slice and not just fall off. We loved East Side & will be back! Wow! We ordered a 14" half and half - Half Nelson and Guiche and loved both! You can only order half and half if the sauce is the same so we switched Guiche to pesto. Definitely liked the Half Nelson more, so I'd suggest sticking to their specialty pizzas without modification! Such unlikely and unique combos. Interested in trying the black bean sauce pizzas in the future. Love how thin and crispy the crust is. The crust almost tastes like samosa crust?? We made our own pizza and it was very good! Reasonable prices and they sell pizza by the slice! The place is very small, you can catch a table if you're lucky. They have REALLY good sauces that I believe they make in house? Very fresh! We waited 30 minutes for our pizza to be ready just to find out it had been sitting there and no one said anything...
