I was a frequent customer at the Columbia MD location -- they were one of the best breakfast places in the Baltimore area. I was so happy to see them open up in Richmond. However, a few things happened that was weird and not so good. First, when we arrived there were only a couple of tables occupied but the host made us wait for a table to be cleared and remarked that they were busy. I let the comment pass... but it seemed odd to make us sit at a wet table when there were dozens of tables available. Next I ordered a side of grits which never came. When I was nearly finished with my meal, the waitress finally came by and asked if I ever got the grits... which was weird since I would think it was her job to know. She didn't apologize for letting my order go incomplete. The bacon was limp and cold -- seemed like leftover bacon. I also asked for eggs scrambled soft and explained that it meant that I wanted them slightly wet (slightly under), but they came out fully cooked, but not browned, so I didn't complain. The breakfast wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as I am I am accustomed to for eggspectation. I hope things improve, but this is Richmond and is in line with what passes for acceptable. I will start by saying AMAZING!!!! This was our first time and we could not have had a better experience. Brandy provided us with such great service. She was patient, helped to explain the menu and made some really good recommendations. The eggs benedict were cooked just the way I asked for them and the steak had so much flavor. The waffles are light and fluffy and yes we splurged and had dessert and were just as pleasantly surprised. They are adequately spaced out and go above and beyond to keep everything cleaned. This experience went 50/50 and we are providing a little grace being that we showed up close to closing. The only complaint is that the fried chicken breast were completely over cooked and we all know what happens when you over cook chicken breast - it dries out and becomes tough and hard to chew. The firecracker shrimp was pretty good and my partner had no complaints for his veggie omelette. The chicken was not comped and we barely were attended to after given our food. This place is cute. Love the ambience. We visited on a Sunday towards the end of brunch hours and waited about 45 minutes for a table; no biggie as it was busy. We were seated without menus and waited about five minutes before the young lady who sat us brought us some. We had begun looking online, so no big deal. Our server was nice and answered our questions about popular meals and what she liked but other than that wasn't the most personable and barely smiled; the polite energy was meh. The menu options are plentiful and all look promising. I ordered a Strawberry Mimosa (top tier!) and the Toluca poutine. The mimosa was beautiful and delicious. The strawberry flavor was so fresh, didn't taste like a simple flavoring syrup! Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time but the gentleman that brought our food had a bit of an underarm, slightly musty odor that lingered a bit and really offended one of the guests with me. He looked clean; hands and clothes, otherwise. The Toluca poutine was unique but lacked depth. All of the flavors melded together so smoothly but any dish with chorizo-- I need the chorizo to standout. I kept wondering what had changed the color of my tots to that good chorizo orange but didn't remember the dish had chorizo until I got home and looked at the menu. The pico de gallo and what I'm assuming was cilantro aioli added such freshness to the dish. The poutine was so hearty, cheesy and unique, but did leave me wanting more of something that was missing. Looking for a great brunch location with fair pricing? Definitely check this place out. I've introduced it to my friends in Virginia and they always went back for seconds. It's primarily a brunch place, I love their breakfast foods, especially their blueberry pancake with their lemon glaze. They do have a pretty diverse entree and drinks selection, but I'd also like to point out their potatoes are next level good! Plenty of parking space, but pending what time of day you come, you're looking at a wait time of over an hour, that's good popular this place is. Cozy interior and definitely family orientated dining environment. So far my experience with the staff have been great, I think there was one time the waitress forgot about our order and we waited over 30 minutes before realizing what happened. Accidents happen and that's how busy the place can get some days. The thing is they also don't accept reservations, so you'll have to go there in person to put your name down on the waitlist. Least that's what I had to do every time unless their policy has changed within the last year. Do I recommend this place for brunch? Had the Western omelette which per the menu contains ham. I did not see or taste any ham. The Lyonnaise potatoes were tasty but did not have any fried onions as described by the server and by definition. Both items not correctly made. This location also adds an automatic 20% gratuity. While I would typically tip that much I do not like having the restaurant determine how I should value the service. I think it may explain why the server did not feel it was necessary to even come back and check on me after food came, and see if I need coffee, etc. read more

My server was attentive and looked like she enjoyed her job. However, the service was slow. I felt she could have used an assistant. The omelette and potatoes were very good, but very slow in coming. We were very familiar with Eggspectation from our visits to the Chantilly, VA, location, and consequently we were ecstatic when this Richmond location opened. It has been everything we hoped for and more! Over the past year we've enjoyed the outdoor seating several times, and last night we ate inside for the first time. In all cases, diners were socially distanced, masks were properly worn and everything seemed very clean. So now the food... Everything we've had has been WONDERFUL. In the past I've had the Eggstravaganza (you can't beat eggs AND French toast!) and the French Toast Flambe, and both dishes have always been excellent. The Lyonnaise-style potatoes are simply amazing. If you love potatoes and happen to order a dish that doesn't include them, I urge you to order them as a side dish. You won't be disappointed. Last night my husband ordered the Cajun Shrimp and Grits, and noted that the dish not only included a large portion of shrimp, but also an over-abundance of andouille sausage (that's not a complaint). The serving was large enough that he had leftovers for lunch today. I had the Cheasapeake Flatbread, which had so much flavor that I even ate all of the little edge crusts that didn't have topping on them. The crab dip on this flatbread is so delicious, I truly wish Eggspectation would add it to the menu by itself as an appetizer. For dessert, we had the German Chocolate Cake, which was moist and tasted a lot like the German Chocolate Cake my grandma used to make. I should also mention the service, which has always been attentive and very friendly. We once had brunch with our neighbors and even though my neighbor thought her pancakes looked fine, the server insisted on bringing her out a second order because the SERVER felt that the pancakes could be a little bit better! (My neighbor took the first batch home and later told us that they tasted great.) Eggspectation really does go above-and-beyond to deliver the best food to its customers in ways I haven't noticed in any other restaurant. If you visit and have an issue, make sure to speak up, because this restaurant really does seem to want to make things right! We also noticed that the Happy Hour prices on beer and wine are VERY good. As the pandemic eases, we hope more Richmonders will discover what a great deal Eggspectation is offering here. The Chantilly location always seemed to be packed with people (despite having a low-visibility location), and it's my fervent hope that as 2021 progresses and the pandemic eases, more and more Richmonders will discover this wonderful restaurant. read more

My husband and I came for Sunday brunch, and were seated on the covered patio. Our server took our order promptly and she was very pleasant. She returned with our drinks a few minutes later. The iced tea I ordered had just a few ice cubes and they melted a few minutes later. When I asked our server for more ice, she said she had noticed there wasn't much in my iced tea when she brought it to the table. Why she didn't add ice or ask someone else to do so wasn't explained. When our meal arrived, there was no silverware at the table. I asked the person who brought the food to bring out silverware, which he said he'd do. After 5-7 minutes passed with no silverware, I went inside to try to get some myself. I found another server when I didn't see ours and asked the other server if she could give me two sets of silverware. She asked me where I was sitting. She then told me that my server would get our silverware and turned and walked away. A few minutes later our silverware finally appeared. Our food was stone cold. My order included a piece of toast. When our server came by to check on how our meals had turned out, I told her that my toast wasn't toasted. She agreed after she looked at it and asked if I'd like a replacement. She came back with toast about 15 minutes later and explained that she had sent the toast back to the kitchen 3 times before they managed to toast the bread. This restaurant seems to be suffering from a shortage of capable staff and no apparent management. We won't be returning. read more

Abysmal. Absolutely abysmal (and I use that harsh word sparingly). If you want a disappointing dining experience here it is. Came in for Sunday brunch. They were busy but not overwhelmed. The 45 minute wait was expected and OK. After being seated for 20 minutes we went looking for a server, as nobody came to our table or even said 'hello' or 'welcome to Eggspectation'. The service was still poor after a waiter was sent over to our table by a hostess. The food quality was acceptable albiet luke warm and far from anything special. I ordered crapes and got an omlette. They forgot our toast. No water offered, no drink refill was offered. We marveled at the lack of attention most of the other customers reveived, and wondered how a restaurant could be so poorly managed and stay in business. They had adequate staff to meet the needs of the number of customers but nobody was hustling. Maybe their cultural phrase is "we'll get to you when we get to you, customer". To complete the insult an automatic 20% tip is added to your bill, which most diners use to show an appreciation for good service (or lack thereof). This establishment should give 20% back to the customer for tolerating this sad situation and for wasting precious weekend time. In fifteen years on Yelp I have never even considered flaming a dining establishment for any aspect of their business. Every customer-facing aspect of this business needs help. And fast. I would give a minus 1 star as my Yelp rating if I could. read more
