    Carnitas torta
    Cesar M.

I know there's a a lot of "hole in the wall" Mexican spots in the Long Beach area. But this is a hidden gem. A simple Jr market where you can find your average day needs but once inside you'll find a "Carnicería" where they serve common Mexican dishes. The service is simple, you can order food right away or spend some time shopping as your food is being made. What I love about this place is the small sides bar, where you can find tons of extra fixings for free. Also, the fact that they are reasonably priced. A giant torta with everything, including avocado free of charge??? What!!!??? Free extras sides and a can of Inca Cola..$13 dollars! What???? The perfect lunch affordable and satisfying lunch. Another plus is that the food is genuinely authentic, the meats are well seasoned. The flavors of the tortillas, bread, rice and beans are spectacular. The salsas are delicious and there is variety. Almost everything I've had from here has been good! 4 stars only because I wish they had some outside seating. If you happen to work or live around this area and are looking for a delicious grab and go Mexican spot worth your money this is the place!

Neighborhood anchor and tourist favorite. Burritos, smoothies, coffee, groceries, money services - this spot has you covered. There are a few tables inside where you can sit and eat. Very welcoming and warm energy. I'll be back!

I heard great things about their prepared food, so I headed over and ordered the quesabirria plate: three tacos & consomme. Paid inside then took my receipt to the woman cooking outside. These tacos were SO GOOD. Crispy/crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and the consomme was super flavorful. There are two tables outside if you want to sit and eat there, or grab your feast to go. Inside there's a small market with the basics.

This seems to be a rotating area. Each time I've been here they have a different little selection of baked something for sale by the registe

I keep wanting to eat here. It was so good. I brought my wife here and she agrees. The carnitas is some of the best I ever had, no kidding.. and I've eaten a lot of carnitas. The salsas are really good. The tortillas are lightly fried so they have a little bite and aren't soggy. Quesadilla was pretty standard. We'll definitely be back. My new spot for taco craving fulfillment. Call ahead to save a little time.

Carne asada, pastor, and chorizo tacos with 4 different sauces and toppings!!!

I love this spot. It reminds me of the markets with small section for dine in in Mexico and the islands. I come here for their tacos and meat options. Never disappointed me. Flavors that kept me coming back!! They also sell Polynesian food. The owner is super friendly along with his staffs. This is my go to spot for tacos. Best tacos in Long Beach!!!

We stopped by here earlier today to grab some water and food after cleaning up the mess made by looters. We asked if they needed help with cleaning their shop if needed, but was offered free food and drinks, instead! Their food taste soooo good! I ordered the carne asada tacos with everything with red sauce, amazing! Tasted like bomb tacos made by abuelas . A guy was smoking meat in front of the shop and boy just the aroma made me want to buy it, but I knew they won't take our money so as we were about to leave, the smoke master made us a plate and was like try whatever you want! So we didn't want to be rude.. so we ate it and yes, I licked the bone. You had me at tacos, but dang now I know where to come to get BBQ as well!

    Store front can trick you.

After the protest we came to clean up and after a few hours we came here to support. To our surprise the owner gave everyone free drinks & free food! To all volunteers cleaning up. The tacos were delicious

Perfect carne asada tacos with adorable cucumbers and radishes. $2.98 for both. A steal!

Perfect little tacos. Why did I only order 2?! So good. Word of the wise, they're a little on the smaller side, so order at least one more than you think you're going to eat. Came with a little bag of veggie accouterments for the tacos. ::chefs kiss::

I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes for a table. The wait was well worth it because each dish offered an explosion of flavors. My favorite dish was the birria, with the salmon ceviche as a close second. The mole was great too, but I'd say the other two dishes were more memorable and something I'd return for. I can't recommend the birria enough, as the flavors were reminiscent of what I've had in Mexico, very authentic. The space is small and can feel a bit tight, but sometimes the best food comes from these types of "hole in the wall" places. Ultimately, I'd say give Lola's a try! You can't go wrong with Mexican food!

Not impressed by anything we ordered, given the competition locally…read more I will drive to Acton, CA (124 miles round trip) for their chicken tortilla soup ... bringing back 3 quarts of it after our meal is done. The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

In addition to all those basic menu items they have some stellar creations. I opted for the carne asada plate - simple and not spicy. Hubby ordered the Carne en su Jugo- very spicy with tomatillo broth and serranos, cilantro, bacon and onions. Both of our entrees came with bean soup and tortillas. The chips/ salsa starter was addictive. Huge basket of fresh warm chips, and a salsa like no other! Chunks of veggies and just the right spice. It was hard to get those chunks on the chips but it was delicious. My carne asada was tasty, a large portion with grilled scallion and rice. I wish some of the "bean soup" had been pureed to be a bit thicker but the broth was good, with a variety of beans. Hubby's dish had an interesting flavor, very spicy. He wished the broth had some rice, though, to accompany it. We could come back weekly to try many more entrees. Their salads sound tasty, too. Service was great.

Palapa next door offers the same food menu but has more drink options. Many opted for outdoor seating on the terrace due to the gorgeous views, but not wanting to wait we agreed to indoor seating. The interior of the restaurant is also very beautiful. The bathrooms were too dark for my tastes though. Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH. Ola still exceeded expectations and provided a more than pleasant meal.

Unfortunately, the huevos rancheros were pretty underwhelming. They came with two over-easy eggs over a tortilla that was very soggy. I personally prefer the tortilla to have some crispness so you can actually bite into it and get that contrast in texture, but this one was completely soft underneath the eggs and sauce. The ranchero sauce itself was very basic and plain. It wasn't bad, but there wasn't anything particularly flavorful or memorable about it. The beans were fine, but I didn't care for the rice. My partner's beef sandwich was actually decent and probably the better of the two dishes, although it still wasn't anything extraordinary. He also ordered a Paloma, but unfortunately that was disappointing as well. He could really taste what seemed like lower-quality alcohol, and overall the drink tasted mostly like watered-down Squirt rather than a well-balanced Paloma. Overall, nothing was necessarily terrible, but the experience was pretty average. I was hoping for more flavor and better textures from the food, and a better-balanced cocktail. Unfortunately, nothing really stood out enough to make the meal memorable. The staff and waiter were nice and pleasant and restrooms were clean.
