Recently moved to the area and was having a hard time finding a new pizza place and am not a fan of big chain pizza. Also found many fusion spots, but just wanted a place that served a decent, simple pepperoni pie. Enter San Ramon's Bug Apple Pizza, found on Yelp! and gave it a try. Know this place has no dine-in, but always preferred pickup anyway. I always phone in my order, they are efficient and pizza is always ready as promised. They have a pretty straight forward menu and don't stray from the basics - pizza, calzone, salad a few sides, drinks and desserts. Have been ordering their pepperoni pizza and on occasion will add jalapeños. Am partial to a thinner crust, but not paper thin, but New York style and they have consistently delivered. Nice ration of sauce, cheese and toppings. Crust has nice flavor and is crispy, not crunchy, so it's still good when the pizza lowers in temp and doesn't get chewy. They also will pack you parm cheese and crushed pepper in packets, played and utensils upon request. Have had them a few times now and they have consistently delivered on a delicious pie and have recommended a few times now. Haven't tried other items on the menu, but may give a calzone a go at some point. read more

I tried the slice today because I was at Starbucks studying and didn't want to pay $10 for their food and feel empty so I decided to get a slice of pizza around the corner of what use to be a Pizza Hut. I didn't want to eat too much so I got a slice. However looking at the pictures the margarita pizza looks good so I tried to create that slice. I got 4 toppings on my pizza and in the notes I said "can you make it like the margarita pizza?". When I got there they did not disappoint. Not only did they ask me to check it if it was right they made it right. Great customer service and oh man was the pizza good. It hit the spot matter of fact I'll get another one tomorrow. I ordered on the app and when getting there (about 5 minutes later) I was told my slice would take about 10-15 minutes. I was ok with that since I thought I just placed the order 5 minutes prior. I think the slice was ok but nothing to rave about, there are other good places (not many) in the area to get a good slice. There were also people who come in while I was waiting who ordered from the app and was told their pizza would take about 25 minutes who seemed annoyed. This spot recently opened in San Ramon and my family decided to try it out for dinner. We called in our order of two large pizzas ( was told on the phone they were busy, but would be about 45 min, took about that time and was ready when we arrived) we ordered the garlic chicken and the margarita. We were pleasantly surprised with how good the pizza was. The white sauce on the garlic chicken pizza is so good. And the crust is crunchy and soft at the same time. Definitely a bit on the expensive side for pizza, and it is takeout only, no seating inside. We were excited to try the new pizza place in SR. While I will say the pizza was good I was disappointed that they got our order wrong we ordered half pepperoni and half pepperoni & sausage and the entire pizza had sausage which I don't like so I had to try and pick it off. Also delivery time was over an hour and it wasn't hot when it arrived so we had to warm it up. I will have to give it another try cause I did like the pizza and the twists but the service wasn't great due to wrong toppings and long delivery time. Most reviews are about their pizza and have covered it pretty well. It IS a really great pie (or by the slice the size of your face). But I have such a crippling addiction to their meatball sub that despite being on an otherwise strict diet I find myself compelled to make a sacrifice to the gods of marinara, bread, cheese, and spherical meat at least once every other week or so. I also tried a gyro on one of my early visits and it was perfectly adequate. I don't mean this backhandedly; it's exactly what you expect a gyro to be but I'd recommend getting a little extra tatziki if like me you prefer enough that you inevitably dribble some down the front of your shirt while eating it. On previous visits, we've also gotten hot wings, calzones, and a Caesar salad. The calzones are delicious and huge, your choice of filling, and they come with a cup of marinara on the side. Hot wings are standard pizza place hot wings so if you're looking for that crunchy style you may want to switch to an order of garlic twists instead. I like both styles of wings depending on my mood so sometimes those baked pizza joint ones hit the spot for me. Now, gun-to-my-head if I had to find something to criticize... I know nobody is really coming here for the salad. But Amici's over in Danville has an OUTRAGEOUS caesar dressing and I think if Big Apple could kick that up a notch from the Newman's Own packets it would be huge. Even if not housemade, a tub of Marzetti Supreme Caesar doled out in the little to-go containers to order would have me re-ordering it again with the next pizza. read more

I spent 20 years of my life in the Morris Park Neighborhood of the Bronx. This pizza is as close to NYC pizzeria pizza as you can get without catching a flight. The crust is on point in its taste and texture. The ratio of cheese, sauce, and crust (where most places that try to do NYC pizza get it wrong) is perfect. Thank you Ray for bringing me back home and for becoming my family's new neighborhood pizzeria. Really nice people here, but they have some things that need to be smoothed out (this location just opened last week). They have some really good coupons available on their webpage but they don't work when you try to apply them to your online order. I had to call in and tell them over the phone the details of the coupon as they weren't familiar with them, and print out a copy to show when I went to pickup my order. Just picked up pizza from here for the first time. Called in to order because we wanted to do half and half. Ordered half pepperoni, spinach and meatball for my son and the other half my wife wanted the margherita. However, I saw another reviewer said they ordered a 3 topping pizza with margherita toppings which is cheaper than ordering the margherita that they have listed under specialty pizza. They charge the fresh mozzarella as a topping. When I came to pick it up, they tried to charge me for the specialty pizza price. When I had to dispute it, the guy who rang me up asked a coworker how he should charge the pizza and they said it should be charged as a 3 toppings pizza instead of specialty. When I got home and opened up the pizza, I was disappointed. The pizza wasn't very hot and they didn't use fresh mozzarella for the margherita half. They gave me just regular mozzarella cheese with sliced tomatoes and basil. Disappointed to not get the fresh mozzarella for the margherita style pizza since they charge it as a topping. I was hoping the pizza would be piping hot and good like other reviewers mentioned but it was a little underwhelming. I came at the time they said it would be ready by so not sure why it wasn't hot. Service- As soon as we placed an order through Yelp/grubhub, a lady from Big Apple Pizza (sorry didn't catch her name) called to clarify and confirm our order. She said that the pizza would take longer because of the evening rush but gave us a time for pick up. And guess what, when we went to pick up our order, it was ready -on dot. Love that! Food- we ordered a large half garlic chicken, half pesto chicken pizza, a slice of cheese pizza and cannoli's. Everything was delicious. The garlic chicken pizza was better than the pesto chicken pizza, but we liked both. The cannoli's were really good. Tip- the online ordering system didn't have an option for half and half pizza. I have been getting pizza from this place from last couple of years, I like their customer service. However, lately they have become inconsistent with their food quality/taste. It's a hit or miss, especially with the taste of their red pizza sauce. More often than not, they make it too sweet. Have spoken to them about it few times already, but it keeps repeating.
