Customer service needs lots of work. We walked in and an older Chinese party of 4 actually walked in the dirty dishes into the kitchen after waiting for the check for a long time. Hostess/server on the phone and obviously bored with her hostess duties. Pork noodles were good.. Orange chicken ok but everything else was so so. Many items are overpriced! It's an alternative to Pine & Crane down the block if you're in a hurry. Parking lot is usually not available. Stick to Pine & Crane even if you're in a hurry. Worth the wait. Maybe the service/enthusiasm has improved a year or two later...didnt complete the review til now. The hostess was always on her phone...had to approach the counter for the water. Had dinner at this place and it's not very good! I'm not gonna write a 3000 word essay on what's right and wrong, I'll just list off some things they need to fix. - The food was bland. Honestly can't be more straightforward than that. The meal of ma po tofu and mu gu gai pan lacked the flavor that your average hole in the wall Chinese spot would have. And the meal arrived in less than five minutes, well before... - our tea arrived. For a place that bills itself as a tea bar, we got served in paper cups. How about a teapot, or at least a glass cup if we're staying. - the place lacks character. So does silverlake pho but their minimalism seems intended. I don't know what could improve that part of the experience and yes, I am just another dummy with a yelp account so take that complaint with a grain of salt. - the prices are what they are, but you're paying twice what you would at your favorite takeout place. The fried rice was more like mush in the Orange chicken absolutely horrible. On top of that the prices are outrageous for such sub par food. I had high hopes, but felt this was a bit mediocre. We tried a variety of dishes : Szechuan dumplings - good, but not mouth tingling Szechuan pepper Eggplant - I usually love eggplant, but frankly I make better at home Mapu tofu - alright, but again, lacking some flavor depth and spice Steak and Broccolini - not bad, but at $16 it wasn't really stellar. The homemade fortune cookies are a nice touch. All of the food plus a specialty tea was $60. We had some left overs, but that will likely be the last time we have Fat Dragon. Jason was so nice when I was not impressed with the broccoli he explained that the other places usually use beef no steak and add starch to their beef while this is real steak. The first thing I noticed when I walked in the restaurant was the setting and decoration. Its compact, cute and neat! I like how they have vegetarian options for many vegetables lover out there! I ordered so many plates and all of them tasted delicious! But what I love from there, that I havent seen anywhere else have on their menu is the fried mushrooms. I recommend to those who loves mushrooms like me, should order it! :D For the teas, I ordered a Passion Fruit Cucumber Goji Berry and oh my god, it was very fresh, and good! We decided to try that new spot that night. Although our waitress was polite, and explained us the dishes on the menu, our dishes were "just ok", not very flavorful for a Silverlake joint. Also very surprised and disappointed for using plastic cups for a dine in meal. Restaurant should be very well aware of environmental issues, and using plastic carelessly is a big problem. When I first moved to the neighborhood, I saw the place this used to be, a shut down donut spot. My roommate and I were stoked when we saw a Chinese place open, having come from New York and finding good Chinese to be tricky in LA. We were floored at how amazing their food is. They also have stellar tea options and home make their fortune cookies. We typically get delivery but the evening we ate in the restaurant, the experience was as great as the delivery always is. This place had their grand opening today and the food is delicious. If you're in the mood for chinese food in the Silver Lake area I highly recommend this place. We ordered the walnut shrimp, calamari, beef with brocollini, won ton soup, chow mein and fried rice and all of it was delicious. I also had the chrysanthemum tea and it was also very good. Fat Dragon is an essential addition to the neighborhood. The food is fresh and flavorful! Unlike much Chinese food in LA outside of the San Gabriel Valley, Fat Dragon's dishes are not weighted down by too much oil or sauce. For those of us yearning for NYC quality take-out Chinese, this comes as close as I've seen in LA. Blech. The worst meal, in any cuisine, that I have had in recent memory. Think Panda Express, only 4 times more expensive. I've never bothered to write a restaurant review before, but I owe it to the neighborhood to spread the word. Came with the family to check it out. The food came quickly -- fast enough that I suspect it had been congealing in a steam table in the kitchen. Beef with broccolini -- bland and glutenous, with the thick sauce clotted in the vegetable heads like surgical sponges. Sent it back. Braised tofu, in what tasted like the same sauce, came out cold. Dry-sauteed string beans -- properly cooked and edible, but over-salty. The orange chicken (which I ordered to replace the beef) was OK, but nothing special. The other two dishes I didn't even try, because I had mostly lost my appetite by then: stir-fried noodles and honey-walnut shrimp (which arrived so late I would have cancelled it had we not paid up front). No beer or wine either, which might have helped with the digestion. My wife thought it would be nice to take the leftovers and give it to a homeless person. We packed it up, but the food was so bad I ultimately felt conflicted about doing this. Nobody in the family wanted it in our fridge, even the kids, so we threw it out when we got home.
