Fat Dragon is right when they say they're bringing the best of San Gabriel Valley to Silverlake. Honey Walnut Shrimp is one of those dishes I see at every family dinner or wedding and Fat Dragon's did not disappoint; sweet and savory is well balanced, the shrimp is crispy, and it is perfectly coated with sauce. The flavor of orange chicken/orange tofu was delicious and crunchy. Get the Dragon fried rice and if you like spicy, get the Dragon noodle. Definitely will return to try more items on their menu! We ordered the orange tofu, chicken wings, & mixed veggie lo mein. We also got the black sesame milk tea and mango mint tea. Great portion sizes all around. The mixed veggies in the lo mein were a nice variety including Chinese broccoli and bok choy. Orange tofu was a pleasant mix of sweetness, tang and spice. Really enjoyed all the flavors. The chicken wings were fried nicely with a good crunch. I asked for a sweet and sour sauce to dip them in. The black sesame in the milk tea comes through delicately but just enough to sense it and the mango mint was a nice palette cleanser. The mint adds a refreshing and vibrant taste that brings out the mango flavor for the perfect balance. Eric was our server and he was awesome. Attentive and kind. Just very warm and inviting. Great customer service, the workers here are super polite and courteous. I drank their sesame oat milk tea and I must say it's absolutely delicious. I've tried this place a few times and it only seems to get better each time I try it. The dishes are pretty classic, and the prices fit into the pricing for the landscape of Silverlake. Below is what I've tried: Lo Mein - 5 Stars. Soooo good here! Rich in flavor, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. Orange Chicken - 4 Stars. This is not your Panda Express kind of overly battered orange chicken. This is crisp, and tasted a lot healthier while still being rich in flavor. Honey Walnut Shrimp - 4 1/2 Stars. Rich in mayor and flavor, this dish tastes like dessert and dinner all in one. I've never actually dined at this restaurant in person, but have had delivery from them quite a few times. After so many failed attempts to find Chinese food that isn't overcooked, dry and tastes like jerky, I discovered this spot. Amazing is the word. When I received my order of honey walnut shrimp (delivered), I was surprised at the portion, but upon further inspection when I went for leftovers, realized that 1/3 of the carton was filled with wonton strips on the bottom, so it was a bit misleading how much shrimp and walnuts you actually get. However, the shrimp pieces were large and tender, the sauce was creamy and delicious, and there was actually an equal ratio of walnuts to shrimp! Good-sized, sweet walnuts, too! I could have done with a little less sauce on the shrimp, but probably better to have a little too much than not enough, all things considered. Rice is rice, so not much to say there. I'm pretty picky when it comes to food. I like high quality ingredients and won't just eat at any random spot. This place is the best Chinese food I've ever had. I can't comment on authenticity b/c I'm not Chinese/ have not been to China, but the Orange Chicken is sooo yummy. They use real orange in their sauce and is not watered down at all. The Dragon Noodles are my absolute favorite!! Flavorful, thick, spicy, and warm. The beef with Broccolini and Walnut shrimp are delicious too. If you ask me to pick a place to eat, it will sometimes be a place with a clever name... Maybe this was the case here. "Fat Dragon" caught my eye when it was a part of the DineLA week and a participant in the Lucky Rice event at the Vibana in Downtown LA. None of us had been here before, so we looked at the photos and the reviews. It seemed pricey... We all just hoped that the presentation and taste would make up for it. A good thing was the parking - there's a free lot in the front and free street parking. A downside was the restroom situation... go to Subway next door... The food was hit and miss - some things were great like the Honey Walnut Shrimp, the Dragon Fried Rice, and the Steak & Shrooms. Some things were just okay - like the Fried Calamari, the Szechwan Spicy Wontons, and the Double Cooked Pork Belly. Some things were a disappointment - like the Five Spiced Quail which was a bit overcooked and dry; and the Char Siu Noodles - not very memorable. We really enjoyed the complimentary Fortune Cookies with funny sayings, the Sesame balls (like fried mochi), and the friendly service! Fat Dragon is located on the busy streets of Sunset Blvd in Silverlake in the Subway shopping center with free parking on weekdays and I think I read, there's valet parking on the weekends. You have to go to the counter, place your order and pay for it. It's not a restaurant service type. More equivalent to Pick up Stix type.. With that being said, their prices are way too expensive. It does not justify paying so much for just a small amount of food, and not a restaurant type.. You can go to a nice, authentic Chinese sit down service restaurant for even a less expensive meal, and larger portion. For Appetizer, we ordered the Fried Calamari $10 for a small plate- nothing special, regular salt and pepper squid Five Spiced Quail $12 - 2 small quail, too dry and can't taste the Fice Spiced seasoning Szechwan Spicy Wontons $8- We had it with sauce on the side, 8 pieces For Entrees, Steak & Shrooms $16- Angus beef, and mushrooms, this dish was tasty. Doubled cooked Pork Belly $15- with leek and cabbage. Tasty flavors but it was all mixed togather a little too soggy. Honey Walnut Shrimp $18- Your average honey walnut shrimp, yet the price wowed me for the small amount you get. Dragon Fried Rice $12- My favorite dish of the night. Very flavorful fried rice especially with the Chinese sausages. Just wished they cut bigger pieces of the sausages, instead of dot sizes. Char Siu Noodles $12- Not a fan of this dish, the noodles was a little soggy. Passion Fruit Cucumber Goji Berry $6- Price was insane! My friend said it was light and refreshing. House made fortune cookies. This was delicious! Sesame Balls: Thank you for the complimentary sesame balls, this was delicious too! Overall most of the food was Ok good, good service. The restaurant has no public restrooms, and it's an order and pay at the counter first kind of place, so I cannot justify the price and small portions of their entrees. Haven't had Chinese food in forever, like 10 years. I was so excited that they advertised making Gluten Free Chinese food. I thought it was off that it wasn't marked on their menu which dishes were GF, but I went ahead and ordered 4 dishes, double checking with them that the whole order was GF. I figured we were the only ones in the restaurant, so the FOH should be able to communicate with the BOH. Food came, we liked what we had, but then the waiter came to us as well and told us to stop eating because 2 of the dishes weren't GF, so we stopped. They then gave us a refund and offered to cook us 2 gluten free dishes. I said ok. We ate the chicken and mushrooms, which hopefully was gluten free, but I am doubting it was because the next dish Honey Walnut Chicken wasn't. It was on a bed of wonton wraps which are made with flour and water. We did not eat that dish, but we did point it out to them because clearly they didn't realize that flour has gluten in it. So the chicken dish we did eat in addition to what was already eaten had a gravy that I ate minus the soy but perhaps with flour... So thanks for 3 days of missed work and making me sick. I ordered the foie gras dumplings ($19 for 6 dumplings) and the cucumber salad from the Pop Up restaurant via UberEats; I'm not sure if they have these dumplings at the regular location since they aren't on the regular menu, but I had to have them after seeing Fat Dragon's instagram post advertising them (I guess those posts do work..) The dumplings were a smidge greasy and the foie gras was very subtle (not sure what I was expecting) but definitely there. I liked them, but for $3+ per dumpling I'd hesitate before ordering them again. I may try the truffle next, but those are even more pricey and probably the same thing - perhaps more a novelty than anything else. The cucumber salad was good, but there wasn't really any hint of mushrooms and it was a bit too saucy/greasy compared to what a traditional Taiwanese cucumber should be. read more

My favorite favorite thing here was the fortune cookies haha They make them here I believe because when we opened them up the were warm and semi soft. Sooo good and they use inspirational suites from artists haha my fortune had some wise words from Nas Anyway... They have plenty of options food wise and I love the tea bar. Great combinations and flavors. If you love tea, this is a great place to be. If you want clean flavorful Chinese food, this is the spot. If you love veggies, this is def the spot. It is pretty expensive for casual Chinese but they use quality ingredients and everything was pretty flavorful. The orange chicken had juicy white meat with a tangy sauce, the dragon noodles had a great chewy consistency. Haha is it bad though that I still prefer Panda Express chow mien??? They have two designated parking spots in the tiny shopping center it's located in and believe me it always taken. So you may have trouble parking. We were in the mood for some not-overly-priced Chinese and so we decided on Fat Dragon. We decided to Uber there since we know this parking lot (Trois Familia's parking lot) can be packed. Got there around 6:30 and were the only ones there...for about 15 minutes. Once we sat down, quite a few people came in to pick up to-go orders (they probably wanted their dinner with alcohol, which they don't serve here). We walked in and it smelled sooo good...like waffle cones! You order and pay at the counter, pick a seat and they bring your food to you. Then we realized why we smelled waffles...someone was making fortune cookies from scratch right there! She showed us how she makes them and gave us two fresh ones to try. Super tasty! Our food came out within minutes, which was great since we were jet lagged and starving. First to come out was the veggie fried rice without eggs. Yummm. Super fragrant and a delicious flavour. It was $11, which is maybe a few dollars more than cheaper places, BUT this was quality. It was drenched in oil, it felt light and delicious. Next my Ma Po Tofu arrived. ($12) So good and comforting. Scooping a big spoonful of that into my fried rice just made me happy! The tofu was silken and perfect, the sauce was thickened just right, and the other bits of goodness complimented everything. Finally 'Mary's Chicken Wings' that my boyfriend had ordered came out. ($9). They are salt and pepper wings and they looked good, even to this vegetarian! Not grossly battered, he said they were delicious and he could see himself craving these very wings again soon! He said the traditional salt and pepper style feels light, but very flavourful. We got a couple more fortune cookies from the fortune cookie maker herself...and the fortunes here are delightful. None of that "Be true to yourself" crap, ha. There was one from Wiz Khalifa quote and another from Henry Rollins! Total departure from usual fortune cookies and I LIKE IT! The whole experience took less than an hour, and if you want fancy dining, it's not the place for you. But if you're craving QUALITY Chinese food at reasonable prices, Fat Dragon is the right choice. We left feeling full and satisfied but not that queasy stuffed feeling that often accompanies cheaper places. We will definitely be back! But next time, we will find out if BYOB is allowed, because it would be great to have had a beer or wine with dinner. read more

I came here for a casual dinner and decent Asian food, and wasn't disappointed! The portions are family style, so some dishes can probably feed two people reasonably. The staff here was super friendly even though I came near closing. Even though you order at the cash register the service is great (shout out to George!) I tried the black bean fish and wonton soup. The fish was moist and tasty, not overly salty or with too much msg like a lot of neighboring Chinese restaurants at this price point. The wonton soup was nothing special but solid none the less. They also make their own fortune cookies which definitely are a cut above prepackaged ones. Yikes. I really didn't enjoy my takeout from here. Tried the dragon noodles which were ok but nothing too special. One note. And the beef and broccolini which was entirely stems. Made a stop here for a quick bite on the way home yesterday. Ordered the Spicy Szechuan Wontons and the Pan Fried Noodles with Vegetables. OK, so it's Silver Lake, and it's hipsterish. The prices and atmosphere reflect that (though I'm sure the prices are on par for the rent in the area). The food is good, albeit a bit on the saltier side. A Yelper stated that this is healthier Chinese. Dude, if it's fried in oil, or breaded and deep fried, or seasoned with salt or sugar or with both, then it ain't healthy at all. if anything, the dry sauteed vegetables can be considered the healthy options. The rest? I don't think so. While I enjoyed my pan fried noodles (made with yee mein and not the thin egg noodles used in traditional Cantonese/HK style chow mein), someone needs to rethink the slicing of the Shanghai Bok Choy. As you can see in my picture, those are sliced big, and need to be consumed with 2 or 3 bites. It's much harder to eat when you use the thin wooden chopsticks given to you, as those pieces are difficult to handle. And while I like gravy with my pan fried noodles, there was just way too much, and it was quite salty as well. At least I did not get dry mouth, which is a sign that quite a bit of MSG was used, and here, that wasn't the case. The wontons were good. Not quite Szechuan style as I didn't taste any Szechuan peppercorns, and at $8 for a small bowl of 6, that's a bit on the pricier side. 3-Stars for now, until I've tried some of the other dishes. But right now, it's just OK, for the food and the price point. Oh, and the runners wiping off the dirty tables? Use some elbow grease and really wipe the tables down. A brush across the top of the table to clean off leftover sauce is not enough to rid table of stickiness or the film that was left behind. read more

In our house, we have three options for takeout: pizza, Thai, or fancy Chinese. Fat Dragon is "fancy" to us. You can read that as being expensive. You can also read that as being nicer than the buffet Chinese in most other places. We'd say it's worth the extra $$. Most of the time... You can easily get into a $100 order for a family of four, including tax, tip, delivery fees. Don't do that. Instead, prioritize. Orange chicken. Green beans. Walnut shrimp. Calamari. The food at Fat Dragon is great. Staple dishes I order are the steak with broccolini and braised tofu which get 4-5 stars. However my review is solely based on take out thru Postmates. Unfortunately Fat Dragon does not protect their food well for deliveries because each time we have ordered, sauces from the food containers always leak and damage the delivery bag. Once we had a delivery guy hand over our food and the entire bottom ripped open and all our food was splattered on the sidewalk.
