I like this place because the staff is SUPER friendly! I had the hero sub and was served with whole wheat bread. The bread was quite good, I wonder if they bake it themselves. I normally do not like sandwiches at all, but this place changed my mind! The portion size is good for its price, so pleaseeee do not downsize the sandwich once you get better business! You have the option of having it fully loaded with the sauce. Talking about sauce, they have a huge variety of hot sauce from a scale of 1-9, 9 being the most spicy sauce they have. You can pick and choose your poison, but they're pretty good. They just need to stock up on some more 8 an 9 as they're not spicy to me at all. The BBQ sauce they have is on the sweeter side, or whatever that house made sauce is... My bf had the beef and cheddar brisket which was roasting for 16 hours. That one was quite a mouth full and very rich and bold in flavor. It's packed with the fat, which makes it good, but you can always remove the mayo etc to make it less caloric. Had the Hook and Ladder, by the time it got back to me with a coworker the bread had gotten soggy. Ehhh. That aside, it's on par with Subway in terms of quality. The lettuce is that cheapy shredded stuff Subway uses as well. Tomatoes could use more ripening. The ham and turkey was pretty good and they have this spicy ketchup that wasn't half bad. They're open late and my coworkers make runs to this place every couple of days or so, otherwise I'd probably not eat here to be honest. Combo Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket sandwich on whole wheat bread ($9.68 + tax) - You also have the option to make it a large for $2 more After ordering I made my way over to the soda machine, a Coca Cola freestyle soda fountain where you can choose from over 120 varieties of your favorite drink (and some you may have never heard of) Sitting down with my friend I took a look around. Tables are decorated with Dalmatian spots, fire fighter equipment sits against the wall next to the front door and a rack of a variety of hot sauces and BBQ sauces sits up at the front counter to customize your sandwich a bit more after they make it. A couple flat screens were showing the NFR (national finals rodeo) above the tables. I was expecting to have to pick up my sandwich from the front counter when it was ready as many non-full service restaurants usually do, but when it was ready, it was brought right to me at my table. I came here for lunch. Right when I opened the door everyone greeted me. WTH? It felt a little weird and the place wasn't even busy. Quite a few tables and a couple of TVs overhead. After looking for a sandwich to order, I picked the the NY Steamer. First I asked for a 8" then decided to get a full experience with a 12". Why not, right? I drove home which is about 5-7 minutes away. Opened it up and it was still quite warm. Although the bread got a little soggy in some areas. First of all, I will subtract a few points for the bread because it wasn't anything special at all. This is a sandwich shop so at least I could have a great experience with the bread but this was not the case. The meat was thinly sliced and tender. I also noticed that I didn't get any veggies in my sandwich. I wasn't suppose to with this sandwich but it would have been nice. Maybe they should include that as an option for any of the hot sandwiches. Nothing special or gourmet about this at all. This is a good addition to the pacific commons area. Great alternative to the other burger and sandwich places here. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The place is well decorated and stays with the firehouse theme. I ordered the new york steamer. It was pretty good. The combo of beef brisket and pastrami is a perfect marriage. The bread is soft and fresh. It does come with a 1/4 slice of pickle. However I wasnt satisfied with the amount of meat in the sandwich, even with the large. I was assuming with the name NY steamer, it would be like one of those pastrami sandwiches in a NY deli. Theres also a spice rack with all these hot sauces, I tried the #9 and wow, wut a after burn. The location has one of those fancy coke machines with lots of different flavors which is very nice. This place does need one of those poles that firefighters slide on. It is a self-serve, self-order place but there is a person who greets everyone at the door and explain their sandwiches.
