For a few days now I been having that craving build up inside, the kind of craving that when you think of it, little droplets of saliva leave your mouth.... Burgers.....uuuhuhuhuhuhuhhh (Homer Simpson style)..... Cheese Burgers uh hh u h hu uh h, Bacon Cheese Burger.....ahguhguhsuhuahguh.... (stroke) Once upon a time I would devour burgers for two, sometimes three, meals a day...no joke... that was way back in my youth... now a days, I am more reserved and realize that only thru a moderate approach, that is fair and balanced can we achieve life liberty..... wait, sorry, CNN on in the back ground... where was I... oh yeah... BURGERS.... So yeah, these days I have settled into a healthy diet that is peppered with bits of indulgence that occur ever so often.....and that's ok... I have lost lots of weight and feel way better about myself.... but I do indulge myself as a reward for doing so good... When I told Joy that I was craving a BURGER, she wasnt as enthusiastic as I was, but then again, she just started doing Crossfit this week, so I get that... However, I still wanted a burger.... So after doing some Yelping, we settled on 5 Guys BURGERS and Fries... The last time I went to one was easily 5 years ago, maybe longer... and it wasnt the Round Rock location... So with the kids all rustled up - off we go.... Now I know that 5 Guys has been around since the mid 80's, although upon further examination, I learn that they began as a family restaurant around Virginia somewhere and then in the early 2000's, someone convinced the mom and pop store, I am sure with tales of huge piles of cash, to expand thru Franchising, and went from a handful of locations to over 1000 in just a few years. The walls are decorated with every publication that wanted to give the 5 Guys their props and from every conceivable location on the East Coast, and thats ok.... However, I noticed one, that was I think from Augusta, that listed Best of Burgers: 5 Guys Burgers and Fries...guess who was #2.... Burger King.... really? Ordering is very easy, Burger, Cheese burger, Bacon Burger, Bacon Cheese Burger...Hot dog, cheese dog, Bacon dog, Bacon Cheese Dog... there is also a BLT, and a grilled cheese... Fries of course and drinks... As you order, Josh, the Cashier yells back your order... Me: Yeah, my son will have a hot dog.... Josh:(yelling back behind him)....ONE DOG, what else? Me: order of fries.. Josh: ONE FRY...what else? Me: My daughter wants a hot dog as well... Josh: ONE DOG... You get the picture... Its nice, very old style, and I like that. Just threw me off a bit... So after we get our drinks from the fountain, we notice the peanuts in the box with the boats, so we scoop some up and sit down. So first thing I notice is how clean the floors are, considering they serve peanuts in the shells...So...Either peeps in the Rock are being super helpful and clean, or these guys have the cleaning thing down... The other thing which I am not sure how I feel about it yet, but as the food is being prepped, there is a constant barking of time gone by on orders, what is still needed and also this sense of... well kept making me feel like I was in the army and the drill sergeants were making dinner that night. Not bad in any way, but again, just threw me off a bit.... SO my order is called, and all the food is in bags... I thought we were eating here... We bag all our food sir.... OK... again just throwing me off a bit... no Big Woop.... After all the food is out and fries are settled on top of ripped bags... I look at my burger... Huge... Its got everything I want.... 2 patties Bacon 2 or maybe 3 slices of cheese Lettuce, Tomato, Pickle, Grilled onions, Mushrooms, Mustard Ketchup Mayo... And this is standard... Its with everything on it.... Greasy, meaty, cheesy GOODNESS.... Yeah, it was good, it was exactly what I had been craving... Fries were good too, kind of soggy, but still... Good.... Oh yeah another redeeming quality, and it might just be this location and at the time I went, but 80's tunes on the overhead speakers... I love embarrassing my 11 year old and break out in song and dance, so this made my level of enjoyment higher.... I visited here once before before. I'm not sure why I didn't like it. However today I picked up my sons glasses and I decided to stop by since it was a few shops down. There wasn't a long wait before ordering. It was only two people ahead of me. I ordered and waited in the dining area for my food. I thought it was going to be a long wait because the mobile orders were coming in. It wasn't. So the food oh wow. I got a cheese burger for my son and I got the BLT with cheese and a large fry with a milk shake. We got it to go so when we got home we opened everything. I only live about 10 mins away (light traffic) and the food was hot. These fries though. Man Five Guys everything is bigger in Texas. There was a large cup of fries. There were so many fries that my son said you have to take more I can't eat all this. The cup is full over and still a crap ton in the bag. This is epic because he eats like a hungry hungry hippo with his bottomless pit belly. I waited to post the review until after I ate. The food was soooo good. My son said we have to go back. The Cashier was very friendly and welcoming to me and he was training someone who didn't seem like they wanted to be there at all.. customer walked in and asked about their pick up order n she just goes kinda rudely "You gotta wait over there." First ate at a Five Guys in Decatur, Alabama. It was very good, classic food of Burgers and Fries. Also have hot dogs and grilled cheese for the kiddos. I was glad to hear they opened one up close to us here in Round Rock!! I know Five Guys will be compared to Mighty Fine , since that is a great burger place as well here in the Austin Area, But give them a try!! It is a good burger and fries are usually very hot and fresh. I recommend the Bacon Cheeseburger!! One of the things they post , that I find pretty interesting, is where the potatoes are from for the fries. Always a local USA farm. I am not saying it is the best burger place I have ever been too, but it is good, and definitely worth a visit!! read more

The lady (who I later found out that was a HR Manager) reply to me: Don't worry ! They will fix it! She never told any of the employees and really did not care about it. The service is very friendly and well trained, I like that; it's very important that the staff know what they're selling and the guy that took my other knew how to answer my questions even up-sell me. One issue I had after I placed my order was that the drink machine was filthy with coke and flavor syrups. I used the restroom to wash my hands and they're nice and clean. Yum! I went there for the first time with a friend. I opted for the burger with only 1 patty and added cheese, bacon and most of their other topping options. I loved that they had things like mushrooms and jalapenos that you could add without having to pay extra. They did forget my mushrooms but they burger was still really good. Their fries were good - nothing special in my book and definitely NOT worth the calories next time. I will probably get the bigger burger and forgo the fries but I will BE BACK! Slightly disappointed...I had been craving a big juicy burger and Five Guys was calling me like crack was calling Pookie(New Jack City reference). As soon as I walk in I am greeted by the staff...Starting off good! I place my order...bacon cheese burger, Cajun fries, and a drink. The cashier told me my total and I had to ask her to repeat herself. I could not believe that a burger, fried, and a drink was over $15. Thought to myself of well charge it to the game, they got me this time. I grab my soda and a table. The soda machine is one of those new fancy machine that has like every coke known to man with the press of a button. As expected the soda tasted like crap. I tossed it out and got another and once again it tasted like crap. Once again i tossed that one and just settled for lemonade, i mean it couldn't mess up lemonade could it??? A little time passes, which I am OK with because I know they are cooking my burger and it is not pre-made and being re-heated. They call my number and they hand me my bag. I can see a little bit of grease and sweat on the bag and my mouth starts to water like Pavlov dogs. The bag is filled with steaming hot cajun fries..Mmmmm spicy and delicious. Now i am one of those weird people that eats in sections so i had to finish all my fries first before i ate my burger. For those not familiar with toppings at Five Guys offers like 20 different condiment options to choose from but i kept it simple lettuce tomatoes and pickles. First bite is tasty but the meat seems a little over cooked and bland. The last time i had Five Guys i remember the patties being juicy and full of flavor. Not even half way through my burger and the bun on top starts to fall apart. The bun didn't seem old, it was soft and seemed fresh so i was a little perplexed that it would start falling apart. I got 3 hamburgers and 3 fries to take home for $55. When I got home I found a huge acrylic blue fingernail in my sons. It is lucky I always check to make sure his is cooked properly. This was a large enough to cause damage and it is obvious they are being unsanitary. If they were wearing gloves, as they should, this couldn't have happened. Worse, I have contacted this location and spoken to the GM Patrick who told me my money would be refunded and that did not happen. This chain is a solid choice for burgers and fries and I usually choose it if I want something in-between fast food and gourmet burgers. The value is great and the counter service is quick and easy with a small menu. The burgers are grilled to order and come with a ton of topping choices for free. They even can grill the onions, jalapeños, mushrooms, and grilled onions if you prefer. Order the "cheeseburger" if you want a double patty, but I usually think the "little cheeseburger" is the perfect size. The meat is cooked medium well and the buns are slightly sweet and spongy. Always get the Cajun fries!!!!! They are made fresh for every order, cut with the skin on, and have just the right seasoning. While you wait, they have free shelled peanuts to snack on. I only left off a star because the times I've gotten to-go, it's so messy. The fries are overflowing into the bag and making grease come through. I generally shy away from or out-right refuse to review a chain restaurant. I prefer to give my nods to locally owned fare, to those places that aren't necessarily offering a corporate experience where, when you walk in the door, you should know exactly what you get to expect (even demand). However, my visit to Five Guys Burgers and Fries last night proved that, just because it's a Franchise, that doesn't mean it's not review-worthy. (And, yes, I have reviewed franchises in the past - I'm just particular and selective.) I found myself in the Land 'O Pflugerville, as it's traditionally called, I believe, when I was invited up to Hanover's for some volleyball. That review is coming because I'm falling in love with that place. As far as the Pflugerville / Round Rock area, itself, though - I'm a South Austinite so I very much feel like a fish out of water up here. I've always had that attitude of "What do those people even doooo up there?" as if you're located somewhere near the Arctic Circle. I just pitied how cold you must be in the winter, all up in the middle of nowhere. Anyway... My understanding of geography aside, I came to Five Guys last night after lots and lots of volleyball to refuel. I've mentioned before, I have what might be construed as an unhealthy obsession with cheeseburgers. And while I'm a total cheeseburger snob, in all honesty, it's not that hard to make me happy: I want solid, well-rounded flavors, hearty beef in a tender patty, fresh veggies, attention given to the type of bun, a good sauce and great fries. There are any number of winning combinations that can accomplish this, as simple or complex as they wanna be as long as those elements are allt here and all jive. This place made me happy. It's a counter-order restaurant. Out of courtesy to the patrons in line behind you, stop Yelping on your way to the counter and instead make your menu selection so you're prepared when you get up there. Specifically, if you're in front of me, if you stand between me and my cheeseburger ordering for too long I can't be blamed for what I bite. I had a classic cheeseburger with mayo, veg & pickle. Their potatoes that day had been shipped in from Idaho. As a nice touch, they actually display to you where their potatoes have come from that day. Bags of potatoes line the front of the restaurant and you're actually walking past what they chop up and feed you. It's pretty cool. Style-wise, this is a burger bar a la Moonie's and Mighty Fine. You're going to order at the counter and they're going to call out your number when your food's ready. Get your own condiments, find your own table. It's extremely casual. But particularly, I found that the guy running the kitchen was on top of things, he had it running smoothly and still took the time to be attentive and check on everyone around him, interact with customers, etc. There's a bus-person who will come through and clean up the tables, but be nice about it and stay tidy - it's easy to trash a table when you're eating cheeseburgers and fries from a paper bag. The flavors were great, the beef patties are thinner than I usually prefer, but they weren't tough and the cheese just perfectly melted into them. Their fries get lots of accolades (according to banners and reviews on their walls), they're fried in peanut oil which gives them a nice flavor and they're well seasoned. I prefer my fries a bit crisper - the ones I had were actually on the soggy side and weren't my favorite, but I do like whole-potato, fresh cut, skin-on steak fries which is what you get. Overall, the rating herein reflects the burger. All in all, they do get a pretty solid four stars from me for flavor and general satisfaction. read more

First things first... The music is always loud. Not as blaringly loud as the last time we were there, where it almost hurt. I'd lower the rating a half-star just for that, if I could. There is outside seating, but the music is JUST as loud, but still doesn't mask the passing interstate traffic noise. My wife went with the "little burger" (single), sans bun (poor gluten free wifey), while I did the double/regular. We added the smallest fries (over $3) and 2 drinks for $16 total. The counter person was patient during our slow topping choices (non-cheese toppings are all included in the burger price). I strongly recommend the grilled onion. And the jalapeno is fresh slices, not something out of a jar. As I asked for a couple things "on the side", I was waiting to get an eyeroll. But they stayed courteous as can be with all our special requests. And later, when I mentioned the Cherry Coke being out, she took care of it quickly, not looking at me like I was being unreasonable like you sometimes get. I almost wish the burgers took a little LONGER to come out, as we do enjoy the gluttony of the free shelled peanuts. I wish they didn't sweep as often, cause I would enjoy having fun throwing the shells on the ground, like the old days at Texas Land and Cattle. I'm not sure they don't expect it, but I'd feel guilty. The patties aren't horribly thick. Like at Culver's, I think that ordering a double would help maintain moisture. Still, this time, it was a little more dry than I'd like, but still tasty. The fries are fresh cut. Just too many of them, even for 2. Would rather spend $2.50 for a smaller portion... One thing that is odd... They have ketchup in pump containers, but also packets of Heinz available, I assumed for to-go orders. But what was in the pumps did not taste like Heinz to me. So I switched to the packets, as I am a pretty picky ketchup person... So, why 4 stars when I was served a partially dry patty? The toppings make up for it, as well as the peanuts, and service. (My wife says the fountain Dr. Pepper seemed calibrated correctly, too.) Makes me wonder if I could just ask for a not-as-well-done patty... Hmmmm.... I'm sure we'll go again. Synopsis: It wasn't "OH MY DAYUM". The burger didn't inspire me to create my own YouTube video. I was craving a burger after my doctor's appointment so I decided to drop by Five Guy's at around 3 pm. Of course, there's absolutely no one in the joint, but for some reason, there was still really loud music. Kind of annoying, not sure why they do that. Overall, the place looked clean and there were many toppings to choose from. I got a burger with veggies, no cheese, added fries. The meat wasn't greasy and tasted "clean", my food coma wasn't as severe as other burger places. They also give you a generous amount of fries for the small size, but they were bland and missing something to it. Five Guys is better than the burger chains, but not significantly better. Short story - The burger was ok and the fries were a little undercooked. Not overly impressed personally. If you want more, read on. As expected, I walked in during the end of the lunch rush and the line was still almost out the door. Not a problem because it did move quickly. They have a selection of burgers (regular and little), hot dogs, sandwiches, fries, and drinks. The place was pretty loud. It was decorated with reviews that they the chain has received from around the country. They do have a few tables outside if you want to switch from the noise of inside to the noise of I-35. I went with the little bacon cheeseburger, regular fries, and regular drink. I'm glad I did, because it turned out being a ton of food. If you are a light eater, go with the little burgers because they are actually normal size. The non-little burgers mean you get 2 patties. They have their process down because my food was delivered in a matter of just a few minutes. You don't have to worry about specifying dine-in or eat-out, everything comes in a paper bag either way. By the time I walked to the counter to pickup my bag, the grease from the fries was already making a nice connect the dots pattern. So if you are taking this to go, I would advise against it if you have a car interior you are trying to protect. After sitting down and opening the bag, I see the cause of the greasefall. Fries are everywhere. They filled up a 16oz (guess) cup and then dumped another bunch of fries in the bag on top of them. There was enough to feed my whole family. The buger was wrapped in foil and also a good size. The fries had potential, but they ended up disappointing. They looked like they were cooked properly, but looks were disceiving. They were brown, but undercooked. I will say that I am a fan of soggy fries. These weren't that though. The center of most of the fries were not cooked. They were thick cut with skin on, boardwalk style. The burger was good, but nothing to write home about (ironic that I am reviewing). The bun was too big, but had plenty of toppings available to choose from to fill it out. I asked for lettuce, tomato, mayo, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. Everything was good except for the mushrooms which appeared to be blanched instead of grilled. The bacon was of good quality and quantity. We visited the local Five Guys for the first time ever on Wednesday night after many years of hearing such great word of mouth about it.... Well... we were pretty underwhelmed. I guess all I can really say is that the food is very average here and nowhere near as good as I expected. There are so many burger places....and I struggle to figure out where I would rank Five Guys. But, I would say somewhere in the middle and non-memorable. The taste of the burger was very good. Fresh. Never frozen. Have had much better and much worse. Wasn't all that crazy about the fries. They didn't have much taste. Were just russet potatoes shoved through a potato slicer and thrown into a fryer. Hot. Fresh. But not much taste. Would have been SO much better if they had a selection of dipping sauces. I guess I prefer other local burger places better such as Moonie's Burgers because the Moonie's bun blows Five Guys away. I think I prefer Red Robin and Fuddrucker's... even Chili's burgers are better. This was more in line with Steak N' Shake to me. Not sure if we will go back. OH!! It's very simple: The burgers are great, but don't delude yourself: The "free" add-ons like sauteed onions, mushrooms, etc. are anything but free. The double cheeseburger costs almost $7. It doesn't stop there: a fountain drink runs $2.29, and fries (regular) are $3.29 if my memory serves correctly. Yes, you can share the fries. You can't ask for your burger to be cooked to anything other than well done either. The burgers tasted really good - I can't complain there. The fries were OK, but nothing outstanding. I have no complaints here. What I'm left with is a bill of about $12 on average assuming to people share the fries. That's more than you'd pay for a 1/2 pound combo from Fuddrucker's, and at least there they cook the burger they way you want. Five guys also fails the comparison with P Terry's. The burger isn't as good, but you're also paying almost $5 a person less; that's a pretty substantial amount and more than makes up for the slightly inferior burger. The food is good here, but I can't go more than 2 stars on account of the value. If money is no object, I would bump this review up to 3, maybe even 4 stars. read more

I think a few years ago when they first opened five guys was better. The hype mostly comes from the fact that it's freshly made burgers that don't taste like they come from McDonald's and have better add ons like grilled onions and jalapeños. Overall though it's still your causal burger and nothing gourmet or special about it. The fries are delicious, especially the Cajun seasoned, but sharing a large order between two people still leaves enough left over to feed a small country. It's a little on the pricey side to boot. In n out makes a better burger in my opinion and when my husband and I eat there, and both get drinks, the bill is around $10. Today we got two burgers, two drinks, and one order of fries for close to $25. Ouch. Again not terrible, the burgers are alright and I'm sure I will continue to eat here again in the future, but only in a pinch. read more

Nothing here really sends me to give them a 4-5 star rating (though a very close 4th star comes in mind). The burgers are good, the fries tasty, and the location is convenient. I like the simplicity of the ordering to the point that it could be complicated with all of the selections they provide you (that's a good thing). I will give them the good credit for the fries, I ordered the Cajun style and they were very tasty and were bountiful in my bag... thanks for the extras at the bottom. For the burger I appreciated the charred edges, not many places can get that charr and still have a juicy burger.. if you cook it too long for the charr you get a dry burger... they knew how to pull it off the grill just in time. Finally, I got to eat at Five guys! Let me just start with the great customer service! You walk in and instantly greeted. The guy that took my order was very helpful in my decision process. The food was cooked very quickly, which was great since I went on my lunch break. I got the little burger with "small" order of fries, that could have easily fed 2 people, and a small drink. Walk-in and wasn't impressed. The floor was a mess and the table and chairs had ketchup all over them. Still decided to order and ordered 2 little bacon burgers, little fry, and vanilla shake. I first received my shake! Was really runny and just okay taste was not worth the calories. The burgers and fries were okay. Overall very over priced and really not up to standard. Thursday was my first time I ever went to Five Guys. And it was good, as I've heard. I've been to Mighty Fine as well, and it's clear that the owners of Mighty Fine got their inspiration from Five Guys... Simple menu, a la carte pricing, bold colors, food is served in bags, etc. But from my experience, Five Guys is very delicious, moreso than Mighty Fine. I ordered their regular cheeseburger, and was surprised that it comes with two patties and not one big one. It was juicy and delicious, though the bun was very plain and I could tell that it was not made in-house, or even toasted (which is one of the things I look for from a burger joint -- if it's not made in-house, toast them!) I've gotta say though, their fries are amazing! Thick-cut fries, not the stringy stuff you get from fast food places and not the silly short crinkle-cut fries from Mighty Fine. Overall, Five Guys is definitely a keeper, and I live close to this location so that's nice. But alas, I am on a diet and Five Guys blows my diet out of the water, it's that unhealthy. But every once in a while it's a nice treat. read more
