My mom and I got lucky with seating; the last time we considered going in, there was an hour-long wait to get in. And no wonder, given how good the food and service were! Within ten minutes of seating, we ordered and had our plates brought before us: my mom got enchiladas while I had my pick of the buffet bar. The next fifteen minutes were spent in near-complete silence as we struggled to shovel as much food as we could into our mouths, while simultaneously trying to savor it slowly, because we wanted that much to enjoy every last bite! My mom loved this place so much that she brought my dad two days later. The text she sent me read, "Your dad is happy," followed by a photo of him enjoying his red snapper. It's been a long time since I last visited and I was reminded of how much I love this place. We had a short wait during the lunch hour so beware of planning to go at that time. Ambiance is warm and inviting, but loud, more fun to enjoy with a group. Menu is vast and you had the option to choose between menu items or a lunch buffet. Ordered the grilled tacos and they brought over the battered fried tacos. The waiter then denied that I didn't specify grilled tacos which I told him twice. Then the Manager comes over and said they can redo the order but will be charged again for both plates. Everything that we ordered was delicious. My daughter and I had Cocido. The soup was flavorful and the bowl was filled with a lot of tender meat and vegetables. Super good nachos came with everything you could ask for guacamole at her cream salsa really good Service was great. They checked it on us and made sure we were taken care of. Went here today to have Sunday brunch with the fam but ended up not staying. Turns out Sunday brunch is the only thing they offer on Sunday brunch day. I asked the hostess if I could get chicken strips and fries or chicken nuggets and fries for my kid but she said no they only offer Sunday brunch menu on Sunday. A wonderful place that accommodation our party of 11. Originally was going to be a 1hr wait but we were seated within 15-20 minutes. The servers are friendly and attentive. We had the buffet option and ordered drinks and water. The drinks came from the store next door/combined with them (Bionicos) and they were really good and big for the price. The food was really good and since it was my first time trying mole, it was tasty and on the sweeter side. The buffet is one isle so there may be some crowding when you choose your food but they replenish quickly. They also serve warm fresh corn and flour tortilla to the table. Once we were almost done they served us flan and it was delicious too. Parking can be a little hard to find but if you get there early enough there is a decent amount of spots. Very disappointing experience. The main issue was our waiter's behavior. Everything changed after my sister asked a question and the owner put his hands on her. She immediately told him not to touch her, which should have been the end of it. Instead, the atmosphere became uncomfortable from that point forward. After the incident, our waiter developed a noticeable attitude toward our table. He avoided us for the remainder of the meal and the level of service dropped significantly. Rather than handling the situation professionally, it felt like we were being treated differently because my sister spoke up about not wanting to be touched. When the bill arrived, we noticed several questionable charges. A lemonade was charged at the higher agua fresca price instead of as a regular fountain drink. We were also told that fountain drink refills are now charged, something that was never disclosed to us beforehand. In addition, we were charged for an extra basket of chips, even though we have eaten here multiple times in the past and additional chips had always been complimentary. Maybe there are new policies, but the timing of these charges, combined with the change in attitude and service after the incident, made the entire situation feel very questionable. Customers should be able to set personal boundaries without being treated differently afterward. Unfortunately, between the owner's inappropriate contact with my sister, the waiter's attitude, and the unexpected charges, this was one of the worst experiences we've had here. I've had this place bookmarked for a while and we finally got to have a catch up double date with some good friends of ours and this place happened to be a middle point for us. I'm glad we made that call. They don't accept reservations but the wait actually wasn't too bad, for a Saturday around brunch time was a 30 min wait. There is parking on the street and a lot across the street. The place is a decent size and we got seated with high chair ready for kiddo. The wait staff is attentive and they work in teams, not just one designated person for your table. Everyone helps each other out. They have quite an extensive menu for a la carte options, what isn't on the menu is the buffet but you can ask the wait staff. It's a pretty good deal for good options, pro-rated for kiddos. The options in buffet ranged from menudo, taquitos, enchiladas, all the various proteins, fruits, bionicos. To top it off there's freshly made tortillas, tortilla chips and salsa. One of my favorite places to eat ! Normally you can expect exceptional service and great quality food. However my experience today will not have me coming back for a while. Unfortunately the chicken served in the Mocajete Supreme was not fresh and was unsafe to eat; it tasted very bad. I wanted to tell the server but he was no where to be found. It took forever to call another server for a refill. Since our server disappeared we had to flag down another server to ask for the check ; most of the servers there would not make eye contact so we could get their attention. After we got our check we did let the server know the chicken must of went bad and were told how come we didn't let them sooner. It felt like a moot point to mention that we could not do so because it was almost impossible to get someone's attention and our server was unavailable. I let the server know we were not asking for a discount on the bill but we just wanted to let him know so he could check with the kitchen so no one else would have that experience. Unfortunately my husband had ate two slices of the chicken to check if it was really going bad and now he has a really bad stomachs ache and does not feel well. Holy Moly! So glad we were finally able to come here for a meal! We discovered Fonda Don Chon when we attended the Taste of Covina a while back (special thanks to Yelp!) and had said to ourselves that we had to come back and check them out. This place is amazing!! It's in a small strip mall that seemed trapped in time, but this restaurant was the one lively spot in an otherwise sleepy area. It was busy, bustling and had a joyful vibe, because everyone in there seemed to be enjoying themselves! Everyone seemed to be regulars as well, everyone knew the staff. The menu is huge, and everything looked delicious. Our server was also clearly a long-term employee. He knew what he was doing, and knew the menu. We ordered the Enchilada de Mole and the Filete Zarandeado, and I don't know if my pics can do justice. I'll admit that I'm not always a fan of Mexican restaurants vs street vendors or taco trucks. They are often not authentic. But THIS ONE is as authentic as it gets, and delicious!
