I'd had a rough day today, and there's just nothing to lift my spirits like sitting at a bar with some raw oysters and a glass of wine. So I headed over to try Found Oyster on my way home, hoping for a lively but casual environment where I could just sit by myself at the bar and enjoy my surroundings. First of all, parking is a challenge before 7 p.m. (when restrictions are lifted on Sunset) and if you're going to be there past 6 p.m., when neighborhood permit-only parking takes effect. Timing-wise, it's probably best to arrive at Found Oyster when it opens at 4 and spend a couple of hours and then get your car out of there. After circling the surrounding blocks for about 20 minutes around 5:30 p.m. on a Friday, I finally found an unrestricted spot about 0.2 miles away, but I was almost ready to give up. When I arrived, there were already people spilling out onto the sidewalk, waiting for tables. The restaurant has a bench and some chairs next to their outdoor seating that are dedicated specifically for people on the waitlist, and the nice thing is that someone will come out and take your wine order so you can get the party started before you're officially seated. I, however, got lucky and took the last seat at the end of the bar. When you first order, you check off boxes on a double-sided paper menu, kind of like you do in a sushi restaurant. Remember to check the chalk board behind the bar to see the day's specials, including the oysters of the day. I ordered a dozen oysters, half and half of the two varieties -- but unfortunately it was so loud in there (the music was turned up WAY high, and the restaurant was full) that I couldn't quite hear which oysters were which when they arrived. They both tasted fresh and not too briney, and I really loved the cocktail sauce that came with it, which tasted house-made. (The mignonette was not my favorite, as I prefer more of a red wine vinegar style and less leafy green bits in it.) There's also some Louisiana hot sauce bottles on the bar, if you like that sort of thing. To accompany my oysters I also ordered the Bub & Grandma's bread and butter appetizer. The bread was dense and grilled to a crisp -- I like really toasty toast so it was OK for me, but some might consider it overdone. It had been thoroughly oiled, so it actually didn't really need the soft salted butter splotch that had been added to the plate. Being the butter fiend that I am, I ate it all anyway -- then again, others might think it's too much. I rounded out my meal with the wedge salad, which was a very generous portion. The bacon on top wasn't crispy, but more like lardons -- thick, cubed pieces of very dense, meaty bacon with a strong flavor. The stilton blue cheese was very good, but the dressing itself was more of a plain buttermilk and landed a little flat for me. I loved the tiny sliced tomatoes on top, they really added some farmers market freshness to the dish. I would normally have stayed longer and hung out, but it was SO HOT inside -- 92 degrees, as reported by one of the staffers. No one apologized for the heat, but I can only assume the A/C broke. It was legit windy in there with all the fans going (I had to put my hair in a pony for it not to blow into my food) but it was really uncomfortable still. Also the wine is pretty expensive for a 4-ounce pour in small glasses, and there's no Diet Coke offered -- only Mexican Sprite. (I don't know if they have Mexican Coke, they told me they only had Sprite.) And the bottle of tap water I was given when I sat down just wasn't cold enough to be refreshing. So I took off once I finished my food, which I was definitely full from. On the positive front, the food came out very quickly, and even when my server forgot to put in my wine order, it was remedied right away and they admitted their mistake. I felt so bad for everybody working there, suffering through the heat -- and I really admired how they weren't audibly complaining about it. read more

Found Oyster is a cute little spot for delicious seafood. Perfect for a date or one on one friend hang. Made a reservation for the bar which elevated the experience. You get to watch them shuck the oysters and prepare the food. Which was delicious by the way. Everything tasted super fresh! We got the platter and the sauces that came with it really enhanced the flavors of the oysters and prawns. Also got the clam chowder, which is one of my all time favorites. Not too thick and heavy like that out of a can and that touch of bacon is chefs kiss. They joked that it was dessert, but I honestly preferred to end our wonderful meal that way versus with pie. Really tiny and intimate which is fine but food was served on larger plates it wasn't really cozy as much as it was just uncomfortable. They had these rings on the wall which were in theory cool, so you can place the towers on them, and still eat below but the tables were still too small, in addition as the seafood tower is chilled.. the ice and condensation just got everything under the table like our fries soaking wet in dirty cold condensation water lol. The waitress was rude and kinda snobby tbh, her energy sucked. The food was unfortunately also kinda eh. The oysters were good, but the selection wasn't as massive as we thought it would be (that's our fault for having larger expectations) and the price point for them was high in comparison to other nice oyster bars. The selection and variety was nothing special. The crudo was disappointing as well, it seemed like they put lemon on but not a lot, and I BELIEVE they used graza olive oil on it but the flavors in general just weren't balanced, the olive oil was strong the lemon was barely there and the salmon wasn't phenomenal quality. I was actually really disappointed because I'm a huge raw salmon fan especially crudo. I didn't like that the water was available at every table, sitting there open. It was kinda weird and sketchy sitting on your table before you get there, even though the place was tiny the staff was really inattentive and mainly all rude (seemed like they have drama within the restaurant because the tension was weird and they were all having odd interactions) , which made me feel like it wasn't being carefully monitored or properly changed in between guests, I chose to avoid it for the fear of it being tampered with and just being gross in general. I did however have one good item which was the grilled shrimp cocktail, the seasoning was good, the shrimp were juicy and perfectly cooked and chilled just right. The dipping sauce was also really nice. But that leads me to the worst item. I've actually never had to spit anything out as an adult, especially in public.. this was the first time. Because I could not get the fried oysters down. I tried. It wasn't happening. It genuinely hit my gag reflex, and I just waited for nobody to look and had to spit it in my napkin. It was honestly awful. I wanted to get the scallops but we waited to get through what we had first, I chose not to order the scallops as they were honestly extortionately priced, and everything else we had was mid or gross, I decided not to take the risk and just forget about it. The parking is also of course awful, which was expected so I wasn't too disappointed by that as I already anticipated for it. Street parking. I will say, the bathroom was nice. There was also ONE nice employee who did have a totally different vibe and was friendly, he was a younger guy, (with nice style I might add) with a bald shave. (As expected) We waited a little and sat down outside. our waiter told us exactly what we should get and his favs. we ordered most of them. he was super fun and helpful the entire meal. food overall was really good. the chowder, raw fish and oysters were my fav. was a bit underwhelmed by the cod sandwich (flavor wise) but it was perfectly cooked. My seafood mission is to find the best lobster roll in town. While I can't say this is the best I've had, it was to-be-expected and had me wanting more! In my opinion it had slightly too much chives and I had hoped that the "lobster" flavor was more bold, but it was somewhat overpowered by the mayo. Bread on the roll was warm, but wanted more "buttery" flavors. Scallop tostada: it was recommended by the waiter. Nice little appetizer but a bit $$ for the small pieces of scallops. But it had a nice light flavor that got me excited for my main meal. Fried oysters: honestly these were the first fried oysters I've had, and it was exactly what I had expected them to be. Warm, crispy and had a nice accompanying white sauce. This is a small shop that will easily be missed if you're not paying attention. We got here 15mins before the restaurant opened and we were the first in line. A long line started to form shortly after we've arrived, so definitely get here early! The inside was lively with mostly youngsters getting their oyster towers, while the outside is slightly less loud but you're sitting on the street (with somewhat decorative seating). Parking is on the street, so make sure you read those street signs! Will likely come back to try some of their fresh oysters next time! read more

So glad we discovered this spot. The food rivals (and probably tops) most of the "noteworthy" seafood spots in LA. Truly my favorite crudo in LA--simple, light, but super flavorful. The trout dip is a blast, and if you're fortunate to visit on a night with a grilled white fish, you're in luck. Greta and Lindsay were amazing and the service was a highlight. Found our new go-to for seafood-loving visitors. Recommend a reservation for a high top or outdoor seat. read more

Wonderful spot to get some fresh seafood on a beautiful summer day. Outdoor patio can be a bit noisy at times but the food is totally worth it. The Crudo is so buttery it melts in your mouth. The staff was efficient and friendly, even when the place was packed. They don't take reservations so your best bet is showing up right when they open! read more

Found Oyster has been on my list for awhile given the rave reviews, but I was very underwhelmed. Maybe I went on an off night. The atmosphere reminds me of an upscale version of Swan Oyster Depot in SF, down to the Sicilian sashimi offering. We ordered the oysters of the day, which came with a mignonette sauce that was way too harsh from the white vinegar used. I would skip the lobster roll. I expected a bit more for the price since it came on a very standard hot dog bun. The fries, which were the best part of the whole meal, were a copycat for McD's but much saltier. Scallop tostada was unique with the yuzu apple sauce, while the special, spring pea salad, was extremely salty like other items on the menu. I feel bad giving this a low rating despite the friendly and attentive service! We ordered the Jonah crab cocktail, smoked trout dip, oysters and anchovies with bread and butter and the wedge salad. Everything was fresh and delectable. My favorite was the Jonah crab cocktail. I ordered Pinot noir that was under the "skin contact/rose" section and it was light and went well with our dishes. They also have beer, sparkling wines and champagne on the menu. I have not waited longer than an hour for a table of four, but I also have come fairly close to opening. There are no reservations and I very much appreciate the staff for honoring the waitlist. Twice I have seen a celebrity try to use their statue to hoo the line and both times there were told to join the waitlist. The place was filled with neuva-riche yuppies eating $4 oysters packed neck to neck along every section of wall Not even enough room to breathe or turn around without hitting someone seated behind you. This has to be a code violation based on how many diners they have packed together like sardines (get the pun?) Ignoring all this, they add on a 20% mandatory service charge on top of that. This is why I'm really pissed. I ordered the following: 1/2 dozen raw on the shell ($4 an oyster) 2x cups of clam chowder ($10 a cup) 2x orders of tuna/crackers ($20 a tiny serving) All this plus a glass of house red wine (cab) + 20% service charge was $120 total. We went to Found Oyster around 7:45 on a Saturday night, staff were welcoming and friendly. The wait was around 45 minutes but you can order drinks while you wait on the sidewalk, which is great! The interior is small and cozy, with New England touches. Each table had a bag hook which is a great touch, especially with high chair seating. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and helped us decide between some dishes which was helpful! We went with the Italian red and my husband even loved it who isn't a wine drinker. Now to the food: Cheesy Artichoke Brandade was fantastic, rich, decadent, baked on top, exactly what you're expecting. Wedge Salad was large and definitely tasty, oftentimes wedges have skinny bacon bits but these were thick, tender and really added to the dish. Lobster Roll has mixed reviews it seems but my husband absolutely loved it! It's on the smaller side but it was very tasty. Bar Steak is something I recommend giving a miss. The butter was just too much, too rich, the steak was hard to cut through. While it was cooked decently medium rare which I prefer, I order steak once a week and this one was definitely not my favorite. Overall, would definitely return! read more

I don't know what the Yelp elites are talking about, but they really need to recalibrate their grading scale. Not ideal for families. Good for a single person or a couple to sit at the bar - inside. I'm sorry but the price point for this restaurant does not match up this neighborhood, the wood park benches, and pizza parlor wine glasses. It's a weird feeling when you get the bill and looking at the bill alone in vacuum, it gives the impression that you are sitting in a fine restaurant in a upscale neighborhood, but in fact you are on the street next to a liquor store with guardrails and a homeless camp a few blocks away. Okay, the food tastes great. If the score was for taste alone I'd give the restaurant 5 stars. The portions for how much they cost, not so. The staff are friendly but when you choose to charge your customer a 20% service charge, you take on the obligation of service. Service is not just a smiling face and flattery, which - by the way - is a point completely missed in tip-culture America. Service is having seating for a group of four inside on normal furniture. Service is having table covers so that people don't have to eat off of tables that may have been crawling with cockroaches the night before given the fact that they are in the street. Service is having cloth napkins, and good glassware. Service is making your customer feel like they are in Beverly Hills and not in east Hollywood. Define service, then start from there. And I was so excited about having found this spot. But now, I won't come back. For $400 I can eat at much more upper scale restaurants in better neighborhoods. read more

Been to Found Oyster a few times now. This place lives up to the hype. The restaurant is super quaint and intimate. They used to not take reservations so there was an expected wait when you go, and you can chill on the "patio" (I say this loosely - it's mainly a space on the sidewalk + extension into the street) and drink wine. This is a GREAT place to go on a date. All the seating indoors is either 2-tops or bar seating. The outdoor section can accommodate larger groups. The servers are all knowledgeable and friendly and hip - def east side vibes. No complaints on their service. Now let's get to the food. * Oysters are the best I've had in LA. They're always rotating oysters based on the market, so you likely won't get the same type each time. But they are always high quality, delicious, prepared impeccably (the dressings are super underrated... their mignonette is ) * Smoke Trout Dip is a MUST. Best thing on their menu. It's like crack. * Bread + Butter, as simple as it sounds, is incredible as well. Thick sliced butter-toasted bread with salted butter on the side. Great starter before cold seafood. * Their wedge salad, lobster roll, scallop tostada, and crudo all great. I've yet to have a bad thing in this menu. They don't overcomplicate their dishes, which are more focused on freshness of their ingredients and simple flavors. And their wine selection is good enough for me! Found Oyster was a bit hard to find in the beginning because the outdoor seating was blocking the place but finally found it. Small hole in a wall place but absolutely delicious! We had the option between the high top seating or bar seating, we picked the bar because there was a lot going on. The staff were extremely friendly and each and every person passing by checked on us and there were a lot of employees. Very simple concept but the experience was fantastic. We had the combo Oyster platter which was delicious. I was cutting down on carbs that day but couldn't resist the bread and butter plate which was too good. Wedge salad was really good as well and we also threw in the Cod Sandwich which was a small simple sandwich but loaded with flavors. For drinks we had Chazelles 2020 white wine which blended very well with all the seafood. I give Found Oyster 5 stars for everything, from food, service and atmosphere. Good Job! read more

I'll start from the end: was it worth the ridiculous cost?? No way!!! Is it a good place? Definitely but it does NOT need to be as extras fine dining. Yes, I know every about pricing, if been in the service industry for years and in sales and marketing for decades. And the owners can price their menu as they see fit but it's a bummer. For example, the vibe here depends on the people u come with, otherwise you'll get bored as hell. The artichoke dip was great too but nothing really special about it. Now, for the pièce de résistance, the Overboard platter, I highly recommend. It comes with 18 oysters from their farms in Maine. Also it's not in a super busy location so it's not so bougie. It definitely did not disappoint. We ordered the baywatch platter which was so delicious and perfect for two people. The scallop tostada, it had basil leaves and this fresh lemony sauce. Fresh scallops are my fav raw shellfish. The last thing we tried were charbroiled oysters which were the specials from the board. Florida boy on vacation in LA for my cousin's wedding, for as good as every single thing I ate was, the staff was incredible. Such friendly, helpful and fun to talk to people. Highlights for the food were the Sicilian crudo, oysters were delicious and fresh and very well-shucked. This might be my new favorite oyster spot. My friend recommended it after she had been there a few weeks prior. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there was like a 20-30 minute wait. The space is quite small but homey and cute. We ordered an assortment of things on the menu along with glasses of wine. The food consists mostly of small bites. We got the Daily Oyster Selection, Scallop Tostada, Fried Oyster, and the Lobster Bisque Roll. Every item was SO fresh and delicious. The specials board outside is what requires your immediate attention as those are generally some of the most creative dishes in the house. Their menu ranges from a concise, but precisely curated raw bar to an array of luxurious entrees. Like their Queen Street counterpart, DO NOT SLEEP on the land proteins and vegetable side dishes! There are not a lot of good seafood places in LA I would consider good or decent seafood, fortunately this was a true blue seafood restaurant with fresh seafood.
