The best tasting gluten free food with lots of options- almost everything can be made gluten free on the menu. Came here a few days straight since I was at the Javits. Ordered the same thing all three days, cause... I'm a creature of habit when I travel for work, especially if it's tasty haha. I went with the pastrami sandwich all 3 days, but varied it slightly. Day 1 I got just the classic: pastrami, rye, and mustard. Pastrami was great, with nice thick cut, and really, you can't go wrong with that classic combo. The sharp mustard is such a great pairing with rye and the meat itself. Came with chips which I didn't care for as much. Day 2 I got it as a reuben, which definitely made it a heavier meal. The pastrami did hold up very well with the sauerkraut and the dressing, as did the rye bread. This time however, I upgraded the chips to fries, and that's definitely the way to go. Day 3 I decided to go back to the classic but with fries. However, the pastrami this time around was very very fatty and had a few pieces that I couldn't even chew due to some ligaments. First off, food is yummy and FAST! So five stars for that. But in addition I had a fantastic interaction with Ricardo at the front today which prompted this review ( I rarely if ever leave one). I called ahead, and was told the waits 10 minutes and not to worry even though I specified I'm brining kids. Specifically I asked if the wait may increase to 30 minutes and if so I'd come another day. She assured me. When I arrived they said 30 minutes. I complained to Ricardo and asked him to please instruct the team not to make that assurance when someone's going out of their way with hungry kids. We left, walked across the street, and were googling where else to eat....when Ricardo came running out to ask me to come back and he got us seated in under 5 minutes. Was in NY for the weekend and saw the good reviews and gluten free options so I decided to check this place out. There was a line outside which is expected on a Sunday morning. But fortunately it moved fairly quickly especially because we were only 2 people. I ordered the market veggies omelet, which was spinach and tomatoes. instead of the tomatoes, I substituted the mushrooms. The ingredients in the omelet were fresh and plentiful as well as the avocado on top. The omelet overall was ok just a little flavorless. I ordered my potato hash a little more well done which they did. My issue was the pound of salt they put on top to the point I couldn't eat it and it almost made me feel sick. You could see all the salt crystals it was awful. Definitely order it unsalted and add your own. Then I got the gluten free toast which I paid extra for and it was burnt. I didn't ask for new potatoes or new toast because the waitress never came back so I figure it would take forever. It took a while just to get ketchup to see if it would help the salt situation but it didn't. I had a hot coffee which no one ever offered to refill. So far this place offers the best yuca fries in the city, closest to the one I had at Miami... and you know Miami has the best yuca fries in the country. Nova Benny - it was very filling and I really liked how they used latkes instead of biscuits. It came with jumbo potato latkes, smoked salmon, poached eggs, kale, and hollandaise. My husband ordered a Reuben to go and we took it to Hudson yards. So I'm sitting right next to my husband and this is wonderful odor emerging from where he is. I ask him what is that wonderful smell he tells me it's my Reuben and gives me a piece of his sandwich. Oh my gosh, oh isn't that the best Reuben I've ever had in my life. I'm 60 years old. That's a lot to be said. I've had a lot of Rubens. I strongly recommend this place and I've been dying to have another Reuben. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible as is most of the Chelsea market however, the last time I was at the Chelsea market in in 2019 there were no accessible bathrooms. It was hideous you couldn't get even a non-motorized wheelchair into a bathroom. So I use the Starbucks reserve which is around the corner and use their bathroom, which is very accessible., if anyone reading this, this review finds out that there's an accessible bathroom in Chelsea market for a large wheelchair. Please let me know. You've got to have this Reuben. It was so delicious. However, I will say that the fries will limp and pathetic. Ambiance (3/5): The line was out the door with about 4 parties ahead of us on a Sunday brunch around 12:30pm. There was no staff outside to determine the estimated wait times or take our names. It's dark inside and not terribly loud. Service (3/5): It was difficult to understand the waiter. I was disappointed that our appetizers came out at the same time as our main entrees. Staff continued to check on us regularly but weren't super friendly. It sort of felt like we were being rushed despite not having a line when we were on the way out. Food (3/5): Veggie Potsticker (5/5) - the Sriracha aioli was drizzled on top with the ginger soy sauce on the side. It was too heavy to enjoy that I ended up eating the toppings and left half the latke. Also, was disappointed that the smoked salmon did not taste very fresh. The eggs were done to perfection but I didn't feel like there was enough hollandaise to elevate the dish or rather assist with lathering the latke down the latch. Pastrami Sandwich Rueben (5/5) - Although I only had a bite of pastrami, it was FIRE. The ratio of meat was wonderful and seasoned very well! The Rueben upgrade was the superior choice in elevating the taste from the sauerkraut and swiss. What a way to end 2023! Friedmans is now on my must-visit list when going to the city. My friend tried calling to make reservations earlier in the week prior to our Friday trip, but no one ever answered. We decided to try to go as walk-ins, which worked out nicely because we were seated immediately. Like most places, it was on the smaller side, but that only added to the coziness of the space. The only complaint I could mention is that the restaurant was uncomfortably warm, which seems worse when you're surrounded by other diners. All the staff were friendly and made our experience fantastic. We kicked off with mimosas and gluten-free vegetable potstickers. The potstickers were awesome, coming with two different sauces that were both equally delicious. We chose to share the gluten-free lemon ricotta pancakes and those were probably the best pancakes I've ever had. The pancakes were light, golden, and every topping was a perfect addition. BENEDICT 5/5 - my first time trying a benedict with a latke as the base and I'm delightfully surprised! This was actually so refreshing and satisfying - yet not too heavy. So why did I give this place 4 stars? Service was friendly and quick, the food was tasty, but to be honest - I just think the price was a little steep in my opinion. I was disappointed when the dish was supposed to come with fries as per the menu, but instead came with chips. The chips were good, but I really wanted fries. I simply didn't feel like complaining.
