This place is all about the view. Two stars for the food, 3 stars for the service, 2 stars for value and 5 stars for the view and surroundings. Great place for a date or on a beautiful day just taking in the majestic views. Off the beaten path in LB near the Queen Mary. A place to try once. Don't get the burger. Way over cooked and the fries while abundant were almost room temperature. The various salads were acceptable but nothing special. Btw they automatically add a 20% tip to your bill so pay attention to that. I'm generally a 25% tipper unless service is 5 star so you can see how many one star service experiences are mentioned here. read more

Gorgeous views of the water and the servers are all very friendly. All our food was good (yea, I can't help it, I always sample everyone's food) but it wasn't spectacular. The standout was the Ropa Vieja which had a nice smoky flavor. The seafood enchiladas had a very good sauce. We also had the guacamole dio, which was on the plain side. The salsa had a weird zing that I didn't care for. Surprised that they didn't have flan on their dessert menu, but we had the creme brule which was also average. The wine list was light, but they are known more for their margaritas, which were very good! We got a bonus animal show with our meal. There was a cute little raccoon climbing a cabana and jumping to a tree, then going back and forth precariously. If you stay at Hotel Maya, I think its worth it to try this place out, if for no other reason than the friendly servers, margaritas and the view. read more

I have been here twice now. Once for breakfast and this last time for lunch. The food is hearty and delicious. The menu seems small but also seems like there is a good array of choices. The staff here is very friendly and attentive in a genuine way. Multiple people passed by my table on both occasions to ensure I was not in need. This morning they readjusted an umbrella so I could be in the shade and I was eating alone. Both times I have been here it's has been work related and I have personally been in a rush. Let me start with saying the food isn't bad but nothing to write home about. The reason for the low rating is the cost (chips and guacamole is $20) and the staff/policy. We had a business breakfast for 6 people and wanted to charge it to our rooms. They said there was no way to split the bill and then they said the reason was it's their policy and then said the computer system wasn't working correctly and that is why he could t split it. read more

We've been here numerous times as The Maya is one of our favorite date night spots, but I'm doing this review based solely on our last visit on the 20th. If I were rating them based on all prior experiences, it would be a 3.5/4 as service is hit or miss. Unless you end up with Laura. Laura is fantastic, and a great server! We ate breakfast/brunch twice and tried to eat dinner, but they were not able to accommodate our party. Food was solid. Spinach was oily. Overall seasoning could have been more robust and complex. Our 15 person party was reasonably well cared for. They seemed to be understaffed. Maybe we didn't get exceptional service because our gratuity was included. The views of the city are spectacular. The view is amazing! However, the Caesar salad I ordered was the absolutely the worst Caesar salad in the world so far! Tasteless, bland the dressing definitely was not a Caesar dressing. My husband and I went to dinner here and this is the worst service we've ever experienced. We had made a reservation and did not get seated until 30 min after our reservation. Upon getting sat down, we didn't even get offered water until I went up to the host to inform them that other tables had been sat and served water and food and we had been waiting 20 min. About 20 min after that a server came to us and offered us a drink. After that we waited a whole 45 min to get our first appetizer. To make a long story short. A very disappointing experience. I brought a friend on July 18, 2025 at 2:30pm for drinks and chips. I asked for an old fashion and the waiter asked if I was OK with the house alcohol. I asked what the house used and was ok with it. I was charged $7 on top of the $19 drink for a call drink. I complained and the waiter refused to remove the charge. Also, there is automatic 20% tip. I got my parking ticket validated when I left, but it didn't give me any discount. I paid $40 for 2 hours. I tried to call the restaurant and Hotel Maya multiple times, but no response. Had reservations for a Saturday brunch with the girls. We were greeted at the entrance we were told to pick where we wanted to sit. We sat down for a good 30 minutes before anyone helped us. We noticed that people that were coming in after us were seated and given menus and being helped. We didn't have any menus so my friend got up to ask the hosts for menus. She didn't hand them over to my friend instead she came over and threw 4 menus on the table very rudely. At that point I kind of just wanted to leave, it was very rude. We finally ordered our food. I've been here a few times, but the most memorable was my first time. I came for a Yelp Event for a Tequila Tasting. I'm not much of a drinker, but it was very fun and several of us ended up staying for dinner. From there, I had a genuine love for this place! Located inside the beautiful hidden gem of the Hotel Maya, close to the Queen Mary, this place is so cute! They totally have a Mayan look to the hotel and restaurant. The decor is beautiful! Walking up to the restaurant, you don't expect what you see. The restaurant is half open-air. They have a huge door that they open to offer more square footage to the restaurant. There's a gorgeous view of Long Beach harbor, the Queen Mary, and also the cruise ships, when they're in port. You can call and make a reservation, which is suggested, especially for large parties or you can just walk in. Although I've been during the week for dinners, they also have an amazing Sunday brunch. That's generally my favorite time to go. There's usually live music and the taco bar set up outside. You have your choice of meats for the taco bar; chicken, carne asada, and salmon, to name a few. They have one soup choice available. When I've been there, they have both posole and menudo. Inside is where you'll find fruit, ceviche, and other yummy salads. There's also another table set up with hot foods and of course the dessert table is full of delicious treats. Fuego has easily become one of my favorite restaurants! read more

We were seeking out an outdoor dining spot with a view and were happy to stumble upon Fuego with their beautiful patio that overlooks the water and Queen Mary. We had reservations for 6:30 to be able to dine during sunset. We started off with a few cocktails, Whiskey Amor & Margarita - both delicious & on the stronger side, along with chips & salsa. The chips & salsa were $10, which seemed a bit excessive, as it was on par with what would be complimentary at other places. We also had the shaved street corn, ropa vieja & shrimp adobo. The favorite dish of the night was definitely the ropa vieja - it was flavorful & filling. The shrimp adobo was in a heavy cream sauce that was quite mild, it lacked the latin flavors and spice that I was hoping for. The crispy Brussels & cauliflower were also drowning in the sauce, so missed some of the crispy texture. Overall, we really enjoyed the ambiance and appreciated that we were checked in on by the hostess several times. The food is a bit overpriced, but you're paying for the view. While they do validate parking, we were told that the parking attendant was not there that evening, so after our meal we had to stand in line at the front desk of the hotel to pay the parking fee - we had to wait for the check of several families just to leave. It added 25min at the end of the night when we were just trying to leave - it would have been great to be able to pay at a machine & simply leave. read more

Summary: The view was the best part of this restaurant, food was just okay, gnats fly into drinks, and the service is terrible, especially for included 20% gratuity. Came for Father's Day but from reading any other day is just as bad. The most disturbing part of our visit was the service, which was one of the worst of any restaurant I've been to starting with the host ignoring us, despite us having a reservation and unfortunately continued with the slow wait staff to even the people refilling waters had a bad attitude. We got seated 30 minutes after our reservation and then waited another 30 minutes just to put in appetizer orders! We anticipated the long delay before the waiter returned so tried to put in our main and appetizer orders together with instructions to stagger them and of course that was done wrong. Oddly the drinks (I ordered a watermelon margarita) tasted watered down like it was premade and had been sitting in ice. Positives: The restaurant esthetic was nice and views great outside (if you ignore the gnats). Parking is validated. Definitely don't recommend the restaurant though. I do not know how this place is not toping more LA hot lists- this place is a treasure nestled next to the Long Beach shore. And I do not think I have ever done this (and I have been to Yamashioro's) but the best part of this spot is the majestic view, that is magnified by the shades of night. And I have been privileged to see some views in my life time. I have been on a helicopter as it soared above the Strip. I have hiked to the top of a hill/mountain at Muir Woods and seen the beauty of sprawling green. I have hiked a hill/mountain at Pacific Palisades and seen the breathtaking view of sprawling blue. I have eaten at Perch and sipped at their bar on top, and have seen the lights and buzz of LA's urban scene, New York and Chicago's too. But, the view at Fuego, in this reviewer's opinion, beat them because when I gazed from Fuego to the waters of Long Beach and its skyline I felt peace. I had never been to a location where calm waters, stroked with the lights of the city, were next adjoined. So if you want a majestic view where a city's skyline is away and water is near, this place is a must. The food was strong too! One night I went, I got the street corn niblets and a placed them a top the Balsamic soaked Brussel sprouts. All that was missing was a slab of Salmon atop this self-made concoction. I have also tried the mixed seafood arepas. They were solid but I would not try them again, I rather sample other flavors. So the food can be described as pan-Latin, not solely Mexican. I can see some people just describe the restaurant as Mexican because of its name, and where it is located- inside of the Mayan. The service was also a welcomed treat! I especially have to give props to Daniel, a food runner. His kindness, his loyalty to his work, his service made the experience that much more enjoyable! He stopped and offered welcomed conversation, one night when I went to myself because I needed the peace offered by the view. Miguel- my namesake (mi tocayo)- was the manager. He was also attentive, caring, and set the tone for his staff to follow. I especially liked that he picked a big serving plate full of finished drinks. He could have had someone else do it, but he took the initiative to do it, because again, he was setting the example. So trust, that you will be taken care off when you are in this place. The drinks are also a must! I am not someone who likes the taste of alcohol. When I do drink is socially and the drink has to be sweet to completely mask the burn of alcohol. A server suggested a coconut mojito. I was skeptical, I was proven wrong. The sweetness of the drink was more than pleasant, and then I slurped a big gulp and the finish of the drink made me like I was biting into coconut skin, firm and plump. I did not think I would enjoy it as much as I did. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy this place. It is truly a must for a party vibe dinner. After, explore the grounds of the place. Nearby there is a day bed that is best enjoyed at night. As I wrote this, I wanted this to be a love letter to this place. Hopefully I delivered. Oh, they also have a fire pit! Fuego is has good food and best views of Long Beach from across the bay. However at Father's Day lunch the music blasted out so loud we had to yell across the table to hear each other. We put in ear plugs that we happened to have. We will never go there again when they have "music ". Call ahead and cancel if they have music. We like soft quiet background music but definitely not the explosive ear drum breaking sound that will leave you deaf for a week. read more

I'm updating my review because of the Dine LA experience I had last week. Dining on the patio, it started pouring rain- The overall food was delish and in point. The chips and salsa fresh and crisp, the queso was yummy, crab cakes were well seasoned and we had the shrimp and chicken for entrees. Was so sad I could not finish them. Next morning I had the breakfast burrito- the server gave me a complimentary coffee while I waited.
