Came here for dinner with a friend of mine. We keep going to this plaza for pho and keep telling ourselves we still need to check this place out. So today, we finally did when we saw there was no line out the door. We waited for about 10 minutes to get seated. I didn't realize how small this place was... I guess we could have sat at the bar but we opted to wait for a table. I had heard the spicy chicken wings were good so we ordered that and they weren't very spicy. It was ok... but what impressed us was the fried halibut. We saw it on another table and asked what it was... my friend thought the fish display was cool... I really like the fried fish chunks while my friend really like the crispy skeleton. The chawanmushi was good too. This place kinda surprised me. The service seemed alittle slow but as I was watching, those two women stayed busy the whole time - cleaning up tables, serving dishes, refilling drinks, etc... perhaps they need another waitress? Man, I just love this place. Whenever we're here, we usually get the sweet chicken wings, the calamari, this eggplant thing, salmon rice balls, this sweet and spicy chicken dish, black cod, pork cutlet, and large bowls of rice all around. For the longest time, I thought the rice was free or had free refills, and then I figured out why they asked if you wanted a small bowl or large bowl of rice. I grew up eating Japanese food and their selection of "regular, common-people's authentic Japanese food" is great. Of course, their "thing" is fried chicken and it's pretty good but they have plenty of other great stuff. My favorite is always the regular "karaage." I don't know if the batter or the oil, I just can't make it the way they do at home. I love the sauce that comes with it, too. All the combo menu is a great value for the amount of food you get although I feel like I get more food when I do take out of the combo. I think someone else mentioned about the parking. They have plenty of parking in the back. Entry ways (both from Redondo Beach Blvd and Western) are pretty narrow and hard to see but there's plenty of parking space. It's pretty safe, too. Best chicken wings. Ever. These are not your usual chicken wings, they are saki-soaked and sweetly delicious with a hint of pepper spice. When they ask you the level of spiciness, it relates to how much white pepper is sprinkled on them (not the usual Tabasco/chili type of spiciness that most people think of). I come here often for lunch and they know my order of Double-Teba each time. The wings come with a side of shredded cabbage, miso soup, and rice. This is a nice, small restaurant and probably won't work well with groups larger than 6. I stumbled upon this restaurant the first tme on Sawtelle. Another late night after-party random hangout. We sat down on the low tables and ordered a bunch of yakitori and thier famous chicken. The chicken did strike me as being very small but once I bit into it, I was hooked. From then on, I have been a fan of their food. I brought my coworkers often to the one on Sawtelle back when I worked at the Getty Center. Man it was rough up on the hill. Finding good food was hard and going down to get food was a trip, but more to come on the Getty review. Now I'm doing the same thing bringing my coworkers here. I also stumbled upon this particular place Jonesin for some Asian food. This place does not disapoint with the chicken. The taste is unique, it struck me as something almost not Japanese...fried chicken? Regardless, it tastes damn good with miso sauce. ive been here a few times, and the one in sawtelle a couple times as well... i was here last night with the bf again....we were gonna go to azuma, but bf never tried furaibo so we went here :) we ordered: -hanpen cheese -tebasaki -karrei karaage (fried halibut) -ginger pork -some nabe...with salmon, clams, shrimp -tori soboro -house salad -tomato slice -large sapporo i LOVE the hanpen cheese, nabe, tori soboro, and the tebaski is ok. the tori soboro was so good, with the lil quail egg on top...i like to put a li l bit of soy sauce and shichimi and mix it uup...YUM. i like the fried halibut, but BF really really loves fish and seafood, so this was HIS dish..he ate the WHOLE thing...even the fish basket..he LOVED IT. the ponzu sauce works so well with this dish...i still can believe he ate the entire thing...haha he really really liked the seafood nabe as well...the rich briney seafoody broth was perfect for him and for me as well. the dish we didnt enjoy too much was the ONE dish that he chose, ginger pork. hahah...it was one of their new items, and bf wanted to try it, but it was way too salty... all in all, we had a very delcious, satisfying meal....and i next time i want to try their dinner boxes... read more

Love the tebasaki here, but I believe that the Sawtelle location is much better. That night we ordered the tebasaki chicken wings (mild), hanpen cheese, grilled mushrooms, and gyutan. I can say that the tebasaki was good, but could've been better and less dry; the hanpen cheese is my favorite here and was totally on point; and the gyutan was tender, but okay (probably because I prefer the tsukasa gyutan since I've been spoiled). When I was little, this place used to be my favorite restaurant because their chicken wings were sooo good, but after eating at so many other Kapanese restaurants, a place that I used to love just became a place that I would eat at if I was in the area. Their fried, non battered chickens are excellent. The wing nuts, scratch that, the chicken wings are fantastic, very addictive. My favorites are the fired chicken breast (no batter) and the spicy wings. The other foods are Ok. Kind of pricey in fact, but ok. This is a solid Izakaya place. The chicken wings, pork leg and agedashi tofu were the standouts. Actually, the chicken wings are a MUST. Prices are reasonable. Their house dressing is tasty and their chicken wings are seasoned to perfection. I used to go to Wingstop every week up until one of my coworkers insisted on trying out Furaibo. I have been coming to this place since I was a young lad of 12 years old. After 16 years of traveling and trying out a plethora of great restaurants, this place is still one of my favorite places to eat! If you have never been here you have to try the fried chicken. Slightly sweet, not too salty and the level of crispiness is perfect. I usually like to get the Chita Dinner box because it comes with a big chicken leg and thigh and I love all the sides it comes with. I get the chicken extra spicy (their food really isn't spicy at all so don't be afraid) and the house dressing to go with my salad. The house dressing is a bit creamy and fatty but I weigh the cost vs benefit and my tongue overrules all. The other dish you must try is the ika-karaage (fried squid legs). I consider myself a fried squid leg aficionado and I have tried this dish at many a restaurant and none have even come close to the quality and flavor of the dish served here. At other places, there is always either too much breading, too soggy, too oily, not flavorful, etc etc. At FuRaiBo the amount of breading is perfect, it is really flavorful (especially with the house dressing) and once again, the perfect amount of crisp! This is far and away my favorite dish here. You really can't go wrong with whatever you order here. If you are looking for a non-fried dish, the sake black cod is also an amazing dish. Although this place can get pricey, I think it is definitely worth every penny. I wish I lived closer but it is well worth the drive to me. read more

This place is cheap and apparently so are most of the people who have reviewed this place. Most item menus are around $5. Oden soup ($6.50) was ok. I didn't know what I was tasting because I've never tried a soup like this. Broth was salty and light. The textures of the fish cake, daikon and konjac were interesting. Addition of the egg was kind of weird, seemed out of place. Tastes better if you mix the mustard in the broth but I wasn't sure if that's how you're supposed to eat it. Eggplant with sweet miso ($4.50) was ok. I wish there was more charring and the miso was darker. Salted beef skewer ($5.50) was ok. It was beef on a stick. No distinct charcoal taste to it. Ask for ponzu sauce for dipping. I came here for the onigiri ($1.50). I love a fresh, warm and cheap onigiri. The salmon was fresh. The plum was good. It was a lot of rice but I guess that makes it worth your money. I didn't like the vibe of the restaurant. Servers as well as most of the chefs did not seem to care much about the job. The inside was a little depressing. Unless you're here to drink, I'd say go ahead and just ask for a couple of onigiri to go and save yourself some money on tip. read more

I had a craving for chicken wings, so we decided to give this place a try. The wings were tasty, but very small....after frying the wings, the end result = a very dry wing). My main dish was a fried leg quarter (leg and thigh), which came with a "salad" = shredded cabbage, couple slices of cucumber, two slices of tomatoes, and a spoonful of canned tuna. I hope that didn't sound super pretentious, but I didn't really care too much for Furaibo -- while on the other hand, my boyfriend just wouldn't stop talking about this meal! The main reason: this place is great, but only if you love fried food. I'm the kind of girl that's game for fried chicken every once in a while, but I didn't care for the menu here. The food was good, some dishes definitely better than others, but the reason why I'm giving only 3 stars is because most of the food here is fried. Fried Chicken Wings: Easily the best item on the menu. Must order! Miso Saba: Misoyaki Black Cod is my favorite item to order at Japanese restaurants (when available). This was ok, I was just hoping it'd be better. Pork Cutlet & Steak: Both yummy, but not unlike any I've had before. Fish Karaage: What beautiful presentation! But this was the most disappointing dish we ordered. The fish was tasteless. Eggplant: Ok, this was my second favorite item on the menu. Cooked to the perfect tenderness yet not mushy, and the sauce and pork it was served in was so delicious over rice. Chawanmushi: I love Chawanmushi, but there was way too many mushrooms inside this thing! :( Service was excellent and the staff was very welcoming. We were very anxious about coming here, but decided to give it a shot. At first glance, the first few pages of the menu are in Japanese. Uh oh. But a few pages back, the English is shown. My husband was a bit disappointed that there was no sushi as there seemed to be a sushi bar looking counter in the restaurant. We ordered the fried rice, chicken katsu, bento box a( chicken wings) and d( chicken breast with yakitori sauce). We were both floored at how delicious and seasoned the food was. I heard this place was famous for late night meal/snack, drinking, and Japanese style chicken wings. Though I heard someone at the internship company mentioned it before, it never interested me much. The main reason was because Gardena was tooooooooooo far away for me. Today, I was meeting up with a friend during lunch in LB. He brought up this place and asked if I was up for it. I thought "why the hell not. We are close by anyways." So we drove there and Furaibo was smaller and the price was way cheaper than I thought. We walked into the restaurant and most tables were taken already. A waitress saw us and quickly came up and led us to a table. It was not my friend's first visit to Furaibo and suggested me trying their fried chicken wings and thighs meal. So I did and he ordered Pork Katsu Meal. Lunch menu was surprisingly cheap. You can get a meal with entree, salad, soup, rice, and pickled veggies for 6 bucks and they are all made to order so they are hot and fresh when they arrive to your table. So my friend got his katsu in less then 10 minutes. I tried the katsu and it was good. It was crunchy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. I could taste the freshness and thickness of the Japanese bread crumbs. However, Furaibo's katsu seemed thinner than Miyabi-Tei's katsu. However, Furaibo did make up a few points by giving every order 2 pieces of katsu instead of 1. Taste wise, they were both good. My order did not arrive till 5 minutes later. I liked the fried wings but I did not think they were super good or anything. The chicken thigh I had was a little over fried and dry but I did like the seasoning Furaibo used. (I ordered extra spicy) I would go back again for pork katsu and try other stuff but I probably would not order chicken thigh again. read more

Mmm...just thinking about this place is making me salivate. I probably shouldn't write a review for Furaibo when I'm hungry, because this place is awesome. I love, LOVE their chicken wings. I've had their chicken chita before, but I still prefer the wings. Their salads are so-so, their miso soup is good, the steamed rice is usually quite yummy, but it's all about the chicken here. It's not a place I'd go for a date or for long conversations, since my hands would be covered in chicken grease, and I probably wouldn't be able to stop eating until my plate was empty...but for the joy of eating amazing chicken, this place fits the bill. I came here with really high expectations because it's my friend's favorite restaurant. I expected the place to be really busy and bustling, but it wasn't. It was actually not crowded and pretty quiet. Moving on, the waiters and cooks were really friendly. The service was amazing. I felt bad because even though the waitress gave us ample time, we couldn't really decide what to order and we'd get distracted. I think she asked us at least 3 times if we were ready to order. (Sorry Furaibo for being a bad customer!) She was still so sweet! And she kept checking up on us, which was really great! :D We ordered the Fried Baby Halibut, Teba Saki in mild, and Tori Pirikara. The fried halibut pieces were inside a fried halibut boat! I thought that was a pretty cute idea. The Teba Saki (which they're famous for) was okay. It wasn't super delicious, but maybe I'm biased. I didn't really like how there weren't any boneless options; eating meat off bones isn't really a favorite activity of mine. I actually really liked the Tori Pirikara - which is fried chicken in sweet and spicy sauce (no bones! yay!). This is pretty much the Japanese version of Korean yangyun chicken. Oh, and you should definitely order rice if you decide to get the Tori Pirikara. This restaurant isn't the best thing I've had, but it's pretty good, and pretty cheap. I'll most likely come back and get the Tori Pirikara and the Fried Soft Shell Crab, or maybe the Bento Box (It looked like a really good deal). read more

The chicken wings are very good. They are simply prepared. My family and I honestly enjoy the food here, but I gave them 4 stars because we swear that they must be using pigeon wings now. The wings are so small, but the flavor is still good. It's not super cheap, so it can be frustrating to pay for so little meat. To make up for the lack of meat, we have to order extra sides of wings. I haven't been here for years. How I forgot about this place is ridiculous. Luckily my husband bright more here for my birthday. We had the chicken wings medium spicy. It's not spicy at all but so delicious. They fry it perfectly with a great crunch and scrumptious flavoring. We also had hanpen (sp?) . A fish cake with cheese in the middle. Again it was nicely fried. It sounds like fish and cheese wouldn't go together but this absolutely does!! I don't know what kind of fish it was nor the cheese but highly recommend ordering this dish. The kalbi was very good as well. Tastes like it should. I've never had kalbi that I haven't liked. The fried rice was ok. I don't care for the meat that was in the rice. This is the place to go to get your Japanese chicken wings fix. Didn't know you needed a Japanese chicken wing fix? You do. Crunchy, salty, sesame, tasty chicken wings. Order them extra spicy and wash them down with a Sapporo or a Kirin, and you will be happy indeed. The miso dressing that comes with the salad is also super good on the chicken. People tell me that the chicken breast and the katsu plates are very good as well. I wouldn't know, because if I went to Furaibo and didn't get the Double Teba, Extra Spicy, I'd be inconsolable. But if chicken wings aren't your thing, there are other things, and I hear they are good. Because their food is so dang good, yes, they get busy sometimes, and they aren't the best at handling that. Can't go wrong with Furaibo wings (tebasaki)! I much prefer this location to the W.La one, much closer, never a wait and the people are really nice. Izakaya dining is good for groups, gives you a chance to taste a bunch of different things without getting to full. You have to try the chicken wings, nasu soboro, fried whole fish with ponzu, tsukune, but NOT, and I mean NOT the oyster with miso. This is probably the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. Imagine an oyster the size of your palm marinating in it's own juices and baked in miso. Not good at all. This is the one and only bad thing I've ever had at Furaibo, so I won't hold it against them. Service is always pleasant here. The menu never changes and the food is always consistently good. They do tons of takeout so give it a try and you won't be disappointed. read more
