I love Furaibo! Their wings are great and the plaza it's located in is starting to feel like a version of what Sawtelle Blvd used to be before it got crazy fancy. Wings are the same as the one on Sawtelle, but if you don't like wings there are a bunch of other Japanese food options on the menu. There's still a tatami room for the full Japanese experience. I know you might have a lot of options in that plaza but the food here is fantastic. Especially if you're looking for something to go with a pitcher of beer, then you've found the spot! This place and Kotohira are the only two japanese restaurants left in this plaza that are authentically owned by Japanese and serve authentic japanese food. Go wings! read more

Holy moly. Furaibo was amazing! I'm a big fan of Japanese izakaya, but I tried so many things at Furaibo that I'd never seen before. Seriously, everything was delicious (and it's worth the crazy wait), but there were a few star dishes. I adored the grilled eggplant with miso sauce because the miso sauce was something I had never tasted before. It was creamy and reminded me of peanut butter and the eggplant was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The deep fried cheese-stuffed fish cakes basically tasted like mini deep fried grilled cheese sandwiches. You couldn't taste the fish cake, but I'm not complaining. Fish and cheese... not sure how that would have tasted. If you go, you MUST get the yuzu chicken wings. WOW. That might have been my favorite dish. The chicken has a slightly citrus taste but the combination went well with the charred taste of BBQ-ed skin. I probably could have eaten like six plates of that fried chicken. The fried fish was also really good (not greasy at all) and you really can't beat the beautiful presentation. Good chicken, cooked well, very tasty. The food is good, nice presentation, not a huge selection, but variation of the same thing; chicken. But the chicken is very good! Reason for 3-star rating is the service staff is very customer unfriendly. It's not a welcoming place, there's no warmth or smiles from the servers, and they speak harshly to customers. I was told once that I couldn't be seated until the person I was waiting for got there. The place was empty! And what difference was it if I sat at a table alone until my friend showed up. If I was there by myself, I'd take up the same room, a two person table. They were so rude I left and didn't eat there again for a year. Their chicken is so good, I returned eventually. First time at this location... When we walked in, it was about 8:30PM on a Tuesday night, yes so it was dead! But I just like the Sawtelle location much more. Wings are always good here, although it wasn't as spicy as I wanted it... Service was good. (It better be when we were the only ones in the there....) CHICKEN WINGS! DEEP FRIED JAPANESE MARINATED GOODNESS!

I can't knock the food too much, because I truly enjoy it. However, the service is TERRIBLE!!! I happily skipped in with a restaurant.com certificate. Basically, you get a $25 certificate but must spend at least $35+18% tip. It was still a good deal, and Furaibo was on heavy rotation for us. The waitress took forever with our bill. She came back saying that the certificate didn't work. She told us she'd charge the full amount now, and I can come back later with the issue resolved. She'd refund the correct amount. Exactly a week later, I came in to get this taken care of. I called restaurant.com regarding the certificate and they said it had already been redeemed by the restaurant. Before I unleashed my fury on Furaibo, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. There's no way these sweet people would double dip, right? WRONG! They said there was nothing they could do. They said I would just have to come back again (after charging the full amount AND redeeming the certificate) and claim my $25. I was livid. I took the high road though, folks. I just choose NEVER EVER to dine with them again. read more

Tried to order something on the phone from a photo I saw on yelp, and they didn't know what I was saying... Obviously strike #1 is conning me into ordering some 15 dollar plate I picked up my order and it was ready when I arrived. I was on my 30 min lunch break from work so I ate my to go box with some friends that were seated in the restaurant. The waitress told me that I shouldn't and couldn't eat my to go meal in there because it was crowded. 75% of the restaurant was empty. I explained to her that I would be out in 10 minutes or so and that I pre ordered my meal because my break was so short. She gave me the stink eye and it was extremely uncomfortable as she was taking my friends orders.. Awkward and embarrassing. Never coming to this over priced place again. The workers need to learn some manners and learn how to communicate better with customers read more

Very poor taste. Don't understand where all these positive feedbacks are coming from. I don't think I'm that picky. First of all, they have to install a water filter on their water line system. Their white rice and Miso soup taste like Fluoride or whatever its called because they cook with unfiltered water. Their hot tea is made out of unfiltered water so it tastes like shit. It was funny to watch people waiting outside to get in for this quality of food... I guess its ok as long as you are happy. By the way, All the Japanese restaurants in this Plaza are terrible. What a huge disappointment. I've been to the Furaibo in Sawtelle and thought that this place would be a pretty good. Not even close. The first clue is that there are nothing but Mexican's working in the kitchen in a Japanese restaurant. The tabesaki was supposed to be their main popular dish but it was not good. I've been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl. The staff is incredibly nice (Tanya and the chefs are awesome) you'll know you're in great hands. Their agenasu, spicy tebasaki chicken, and torikawa (I think that's how it's spelled) are must haves. read more

Like everyone said, their wings are bomb. This place is izakaya-style, so it's best if you order a lot of small dishes and share with everyone...that way, you'll get to try a lot of different dishes! We tried their wings (of course), salmon and ume ochazuke, furaibo salad, grilled mackerel, asparagus sauteed in butter, beef tongue, and bbq kalbi ribs...everything was really good. I took a star off because I've had better ribs and tongue, but that's not what they specialize in so that wouldn't be expected of them anyway. Very disappointed with the servers, and they make me and my friends very uncomfortable. We don't care how much the food costs, but we do care what we deserve when we got to tip them. The servers are not nice at all and told us ha e to order when we sit down less than 5 minutes, otherwise we cannot get that table. First time to eat at this restaurant. I literally asked the bf to go here out of all the other Japanese restaurants in the same plaza. Big mistake. First off all, chair barely warm, waiter comes up to me and says I can't drink the tea I brought with me.. fine, I still have the straw cover on the top. We came here upon recommendation of my cousin who has lived in Redondo Beach for several years. There were five of us, and we ordered a ton of food! All were quite good, with a few so-so dishes. The chicken wings were very tasty, as was the halibut. I ordered a combination of yakitori skewers and these were okay -- Nanbankan (http://www.yelp.com/biz/nanbankan-los-angeles#hrid:4qQFt5sNBNjob8qBImVuSw) still rocks the skewered Qs. Agedashi tofu was yummy, but the tofu with miso sauce was a bit strong. I honestly can't remember everything we had...but the enoki and scallop dish was included (okay), the pork belly was enjoyed by everyone else as hubby and I are not fans of pork, and the clams were really good. The shiitake mushrooms came out last -- burnt and cold. I would say, stick with the highly recommended dishes and fulfill your yakitori cravings at other izakaya places. read more

Furaibo is one of the most well-known restaurants in Gardena. They're famous for their tebasaki (chicken wings), which is a specific kind of yakitori, which are skewered foods grilled with a soy sauce-based sauce. I haven't actually tried anything but the tebasaki, but I just didn't think they were that great. It's not that they aren't good wings so much as I've never particularly cared for wings in general. The seasoning in the fried batter is really good and has a crunch with just the right consistency; I just thought the chicken meat was dry and didn't have enough meat on the bones. read more

This place is okay now, not as good as it use to be back in the heyday. I remember as a kid I always wanted to come here and sit in there tatami area but as you grow older you find out that it actually is quite uncomfortable. And so nowadays the only draw of this place is their Teba Saki (chicken wings), which, though quite good are nothing mind blowing that some other places may do better as in essence it is just a fried chicken wing. Similar to American chicken wing places like Wingstop, this places chicken ranges from very spicky (not very spicy at all, just more peppery) to sweet (similar to that at Kyo-Chon). Moreover, each plate comes with about 12 or so wings and a small portion of their salad - generally it takes me about two and a half orders to fill up. Otherwise, they also have a variety of other foods, but again nothing spectacular and nothing that I cannot get closer to home. Basically, if I am going this far usually I would go to Azuma or Spoonhouse, but this place is not bad every once in a while or if you are just feeling like something different. read more

Although my two visits to the Westwood Furaibo was great, the one to this Furaibo left much to be desired, in the food department. The renkon chips were so thinly sliced and over-fried that the renkon (lotus root) flavor was not apparent even a small bit. However, the oil flavor was obvious. The chicken was also not very good -- perhaps an isolated event, I hope. The chicken was tough, perhaps overcooked, and the meat on each bone was scant. We also ordered several spicy dishes and ordered one plate of spicy chicken and none of the supposed spicy dishes were even remotely spicy. When I moved to Phoenix this was one of the places I was sad to leave behind... I've been coming here for years and have yet to get tired of this place. Like everyone one, their Teba wings spicy are THEE best. Like many others, I too believe that although it might be white pepper they are sprinkling on their wings, it's mainly crack. Yummy powdery stuff all other those yummy fried pieces of goodness.... Ok, besides that - the fried baby halibut is so well done. Love it when you fry it just enough so that the fin is crunchy and great to snack on. Another thing which is yummy but so gross sounding is their torikawa which is chicken skin on skewers. It's actually pretty good and my friends all love it. It's even better when you take it to go and then pop it in the toaster oven and bake it a little more. Known for their Tebasaki chicken wings, I ordered this as a part of the Dinner Box which comes with very good chicken tonkatsu, small shelled shrimp, vegetables, stewed potato, cabbage salad, miso soup, rice and Japanese pickles. It's just the right portion of food, and extra-spicy wings is equivalent to a medium spicy, $13.95. There are other Boxes on the menu, ala carte plates, and the rest is Izakaya style including a page of traditional Japanese dishes. My favorite fry chicken place in L.A. . The taste is just incredible. It is crispy outside and tender inside . And there's actually taste besides being crispy. Their lunch combo is a great value. I always order double "teba", wings, with regular spicy. My kids like double "chita, legs, with mild spicy. Word of warning, it's best eating on the spot when chicken just came out of fryer. This place is known for their wings and they are good until I had Kyo-Chon...I haven't been back here since it opened...This place has weird hours so it's best to check if they are open before you go. it does get crowded during lunch...the prices are decent but the service is unpredictable (I've had bad but I've also had good).
