A good friend of mine came down for Labor Day weekend this year, and we could not decide where to eat dinner. After deciding to just walk 2nd Street until something looked good, we found ourselves at the end, near George's, and starving. We'd been wanting to try George's anyway, so in we went. We had a short wait for a party of 3, but when they seated us it was at an awesome table upstairs. They were training a new waiter, which concerned us a little, but his trainer was awesome and ensured that we were well taken care of. The food was delicious and plentiful, and a good value. They have cheap wine, too, which is... well, its drinkable at least :). I will for sure be back to George's. It's great to have a yummy Greek joint nearby! read more

*****Bou Bou! Here are my reason's for giving GGC 5 stars. First, the location on 2nd is perfect! If you choose to sit outside on the patio you have the pleasure of people watching and enjoying beautiful CA weather. Inside offers great seating upstairs, downstairs or at the bar. Second, the menu is amazing. I absolutely LOVE the lamb chops. I've never been a fan of any kind of lamb, but when at George's I will partake. It melts like butta in your mouth and if you choose to share a plate, you will end up bargaining for that last morsel of goodness; guaranteed. The lentil soup warms my soul {and belly}, the gyro lamb/beef combo is amazing, and we always get a salad. Yesterday we went with the Greek topped with calamari. Third, service. The staff on 2nd is some of the best!! But unless I KNOW Bou Bou, manager, is on the floor, I can't say I would stop in. Yes, GREAT location, GREAT menu, but in order to have a GREAT experience - BOU BOU must be on the clock. She has been amazing since the day we met her. Came in for dinner with the ladies. I had a small, regular Greek salad and an order of the veggie dolmas. Delicious. They even let us sit and chat for awhile after we had finished and didn't give us a hard time about it. Only thing to remember is parking is atrocious. Great service. read more

Based on all the reviews we were anxiously anticipating getting blown away with some delectable Greek cuisine. Regrettably we ended up getting some rather mediocre food, well cooked but seriously lacking in flavour. First off, our waitress was excellent. The service was attentive and friendly throughout the evening. After we got our drinks we decided to go for an appetizer, the saganaki arrived and was excellent. Exploding with flavour. The show of lighting the cheese was a bit comical. It seemed like someone woke the fellow up off his break to go out and serve the flaming cheese. Maybe we were too low key for him but it was a bit funny to watch the non-performance. Here is where things started coming off the rails a bit. We ordered the saganaki, got our drinks then a while later ordered our mains. Right after our appetizer arrives, a few minutes later out comes the main courses. Timing was a little off. The supposed star of the menu, the lamb chops, were just okay. Lacking flavour and very thin for a 'chop'. The moussaka was bland and made with ground beef. Now granted most restaurants use ground beef these days vice ground lamb, but please don't say it is traditional moussaka. There was no flavour to the meat. I couldn't taste the cinnamon or any spices one might normally find in the traditional dish. We had a wonderful time. Good service, The music in the back, when we could hear it, was fun but sadly the food was not what we were expecting having read all the rave reviews. Off night? Extremely dissapointed, let me explain why the one star... One * bc They had my reservation ready and gave a very good table! 2. We bought THE FAMILY DINNER for 5 - ALL YOU CAN EAT and once we had gotten started (family dinner to "share" are reallllyyy small.. So we kept ordering more, since its ALL YOU CAN EAT!) and they said we could only get two orders of each! Excuseee me?? We were shocked!!! Everything was counted for.. Taste wise.. Its regular Greek food, nothing Gourmet! 3. My brother forgort his wallet at the restaurant (we all knew for sure!) and we called 3 times to ask them to check and they said "Not here, sorry!) We picked George's Greek Cafe for my husband's birthday dinner. He received an email for a free dinner & that was enough to get us to drive from Lake Forest to Long Beach! Our waitress was very kind and personable. She made sure we had everything we needed. The appetizers were great. We had kalamari, which was amazing then we shared greek bread with several spreads and last but not least, the delicious flaming cheese! Ohmygosh the presentation was awesome. Lily brought the Saganaki to the table and as we all said "OPA!" the cheese was in flames. I think this was our favorite. The taste was incredible. Great job, Lily!! For the main entree, we all ordered something different from vegetarian plates, greek salads, gyros to shrimp & filet mignon. Each meal was prepared to perfection and throughly enjoyed by us all. We were pretty stuffed by the end of dinner, but of course the birthday boy needed to settle his sweet tooth. Went to George's last week for lunch all by my lonesome. I was on my lunch break and was craving some greek and happened to have a couple giftcards. I was greeted and seated almost immediately, my server was prompt and efficient. I had steak skewers and rice. Everything was delicious. The busser stopped to compliment my tattoos and was very friendly. There was plenty of food, cute little restaurant, they're just a little pricey for a lunch alone. This place is great. If you like greek food and good service, this is the place to go. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are huge! My favorite dish is the gyro sandwich and you can choose a side of salad, rice, or fries. I cheat and get half salad and half rice. Delicious! George's is in a trendy area of Long Beach. We ate in the outdoor section. We had the flaming cheese for the appetizer, I can't remember what it's called on the menu. I had their famous lamb chops. The waitress said the chops are marinated for 24 hours to remove the gamey flavor. The process does work, no gamey taste. I would definitely recommend this place. I went on a weekday. I can imagine that place very crowded on a weekend. read more

The food here is very good. The avagolemeno soup needs a little bit more lemon but everything else there is pretty good. I would recommend there chicken gyro sandwich or plate....can't go bad with that. If you really want a treat go to George's Downtown long beach (the original). I want to love this place I really do! But its just an ok place to me. Been here twice and so far havent really been blown away. I used to like it here because of their eggplant dip but when I came here a few days ago their eggplant dip had a completely different color and taste. Convinced we didnt get the eggplant one I called the server over to be told the recipe has changed. "How is the taste?" i love mediteranean food, so naturally i come here when i need my greek food fix. i usually make it a monday to take advantage of the half off bottles of wine special. the name of my usual wine escapes me, but it's a white with a yellow label and is greek. i always say i am going to try other dishes on the menu, but i never seem stray away from a usual once i find it. at george's, it's the souvlakia chicken. it reminds me of lemon and greek seasoned chicken my greek girlfriend used to have at her house parties. i'm also a sucker for baklava, and george's doesn't disappoint. always have friendly and prompt service. street parking can be a bit tough on second street, so you will probably have to park in the neighborhood and walk. meters run until 7pm. read more

They are so good to us. They brought my dog a bowel of water even before they talk to us! I love this place! I told the waitress that we had no hurry and that we are here to chill. So she spaced appetizer and meal very well. She offered me a sampling of wines -which was very nice because I don't drink white very often. it was very nice. They are professionals. Boyfriend and I have been going to happy hour like once a week! We have always loved George's, but since discovering their happy hour, we've been going more frequently. It really can't be beat -- 7 days a week from 3-7pm. The 2nd street location is closest to where we live, but the bar is really tiny. The bar at the Lakewood location is a lot bigger and they play sports games on the TV's, so sometimes we prefer to go there. Restaurant was so kid friendly! Hostess greeted us and asked if my little one needed a high chair or booster. We brought a stroller and it was easy to wheel in, stroller was stored in the back which was so convenient. The menu was simple and easy to read, atmosphere was great, servers were on point with refilling waters and checking if your doing good at the tables. I got the gyro sandwhich, yummm so delicious and filling! I recently moved here and missed gyros so much, this place hit the spot! My sister got the lamb chops, a little skeptical to try something new but man I took one might and wanted some more. George's has something a lot of restaurants lack these days- a cozy, neighborhood vibe. There's not a lick of pretension and the food is satisfying. The flaming cheese is awesome (I mean, how can a slab of melted cheese complete with fiery presentation NOT be awesome?), Their gyro sandwich is also delish. I'm not a big rice eater, but raves came from others in my party eating it. Downsides were that the wine we had was pricey, but maybe next time we should actually look at the price. And one of the servers was wearing perfume- definitely not what you want to smell when trying to enjoy your meal. However our server Aaron made up for it with his charming and friendly demeanor, making our dining experience feel even more like we were in someone's home. We are visiting from Arkansas and must say that this was an awesome place to go for dinner! We we're going to go to the Westminster location, but wanted a more upbeat place, which this was. Our waitress suggested the Family Style meal so we could have a bit of everything basically. We had leftovers of some really wonderful food; the lamb chops were out of this world!
