First, the location is a little confusing but it's super cute and the outside seating is great. My family and I was looking for a quite yet tasty restaurant to eat lunch in Thursday afternoon. This Mediterranean/ Italian resultant located between multiple art galleries and boutiques cought our eye. Check out menus and decided to eat lunch here. It has very nice patio seating overlooking a busy street yet providing some privacy. The food was delicious: I got fish and chips(but with salad), my husband ordered Ali nazik( beef on a eggplant purée). We paired it with two glasses if California red wines-can and red blend-both delicious. Kids got burger and nuggets( not surprised). The only thing that was not great is fries- won't recommend: taste stale,like they came from a microwaveable bag. Services was quick and attentive. GG's Bistro had a cute little patio with heaters so it seemed like the perfect spot and that it was! It was the best night filled with Turkish-Mediterannean food with a touch of an Italian flair. We had an ocean view on a breezy Summer evening. It was a bit chilly and the owner happily turned on our heater. We over ordered for sure. We ended up getting the following: -Meze Platter: loved everything on this board, especially the dolma. They were stuffed and the biggest dolma I've ever had. -Steak Salad: We had more than enough food so we took this home with us. Didn't even touch it at dinner but it looked amazing. -GG's Bolognese: homemade meat sauce was rich and thick. Loved it! -Sultans Kebab: WOW where do I even begin? There was a mix up with our order and definitely confusion with the way it was worded on the menu. On the menu it says "Minimum 2 People (per person)" so my husband and our friend both ordered one thinking we needed 2 of them. When the order came out I guess she had made them for 4 people (all of us). She explained how each order is enough for two people and she thought we meant 2 orders, enough for 4 people. She was so kind and apologetic that she let us keep all of the meat and we only paid for the original 2 we ordered. Food quality was very low. Worse than that was the female server who came to our table to make a negative comment about my 5 lb dog sitting on the bench next to me. She said the dog cannot sit on the cushions they are restaurant's property. Um ok lady! You sat us here because you said dogs are not allowed in the main area. This lady probably doesn't realise that this restaurant is in Laguna Beach not Istanbul! We stopped in for a quick bite to eat, we got the fish and chips and wedge salad. Both were very good. The salad included a date which I was surprised as I don't eat them very often but it was good. The fish and chips were served with three large pieces of fish and alot of fries. The salad was smaller but the ingredients were really fresh. Also, I have to mention how there were two people there being really obnoxious and disrespectful to the staff. But everyone involved handled them calmly and respectfully. She said they had reservations- we are done with our food but restaurant was still empty- what happened to the reservations? Another guest walked in and they did the same. This place has only improved over time. Service was superb from the thoughtful table location to helping us choose food (and customizations) and drink pairings. My wife and I split the steak salad and Ali Nazik. I loved the toppings and unique prep and dressing of the salad but the Ali Nazik was the big hit. I have literally never enjoyed a lamb dish more. Lean and tender meat subtly flavored in a mellow tomato sauce on top of perfectly prepared eggplant mash. Excellent favor and texture from the first bite to the last. And speaking of the last, it's a big portion that includes rice and pita slices. I expected to take half home but enjoyed it so much as we talked and ate and drank and enjoyed the Laguna breeze, I couldn't help myself. My wife enjoyed everything with a Chandon split and I went with the Federalist Zin to perfectly pair with the meat. We both wrapped up with their stellar, smooth Turkish coffee. This is my first time eating at this restaurant. Off the bat really friendly and accommodating staff. It's a cute place but you hear the street really well if you're sitting outside. The food, was okay. It's exactly what you except from Laguna Beach. The food was lackluster and expensive but I guess so is everything here. The calamari was my favorite really tender and great texture and flavor. I also liked the marinara sauce it came with. the bruschetta was just tomato and basil and a stale baguette, at least it was good tomato. And the service is very very very slow. The calamari came out hot, crunchy batter and a nice bite to the squid. I was surprised at the size of the ring bites. Definitely a plus. The bruschetta, tomatoes were very fresh with a nice touch of seasoning. The bread was soft, yet still crispy. I wish there was a little more salt and pepper. But overall, well done. My drink was the raspberry kiss. Oh my, it just tasted like tequila with pink food coloring. But, I can't complain. My friend got the sangria, it was so-so. But, they are trying. We've been here lots of times over the years. Usually, it's a pleasant local meal served outdoors. Compare to most Laguna Beach restaurants it's quiet and relaxing. Dinner on this occasion was not good. Their pasta dish was awful. It's a plus for them that they apologized and took it off the bill. That would have rated a 3 or 4 star. I went there with my family for lunch. When the waiter showed up he gave us a seat. While we wait we looked around and read the menu. There are the best art museum surrounding GG's Bistro. It's a really good access after lunch. I ordered Turkish tea, maze platter, kebab & pilaf. The maze platter reminds me of charcuterie board expect it contains hummus, falafel, pita, dolma and tzatziki. My favorite from the maze platter is pita, hummus, and lentil patties. The kebab was really good too :) The kebab meat was tender and warm with rice and tzatziki to balance the sodium. Also, the workers are respectful and friendly. We surely will come back. read more

Incredibly kind owner! My dad and I visit GG's whenever we're in town. I have celiac disease (so all my meals have to be 100% gluten free) and my dad always has strange meal requests. Regardless, the staff and owner always make sure to prepare celiac-safe food for me, and even indulge my dad with his strange appetite (he ordered 'a lobster covered with pesto sauce' the first time we visited... maybe it's a midwestern thing?) Incredibly grateful for the patience of the staff and owner, especially since they are so kind and accommodating! My 3 year old loves fries and a hamburger, but even a small toddler couldn't eat the bland food... despite putting ketchup inside his burger. The gyro platter had no seasoning and overall no taste. The appetizer plate was awful. They brought warm apple juice for my son as well. A complete waste of $280 . Our server was kind and the location is nice. But definitely don't come here for the food. We are visiting Laguna Beach area and surprised by how busy all the restaurants and stores are here. We decided on doing outdoor dinning and glad to find GG's. They have a nice patio with good amount of seatings. Friendly service. I started the lunch with Berry Sangria which was pretty good. We had two plates, Calamari Steak and Steak Salad. Calamari steak is very good!! Very surprised to see this style of serving calamari. We really like calamari so this plate is perfect. It was cooked perfectly. But the outside can use a little bit more charred. It's chewy but tender and meaty. The dressing was good so I wish we had more dressing on it. Tartar sauce doesn't really fit the dish at all. Mashed potato was typical, good but nothing special, under the calamari steak. Steak salad was good too. The dressing was great! Fresh mixed salad. Asparagus was good but again very typical. The biggest thing about this dish was that the steak was dry. Overall flavor was okay but it could be more juicy. It was very nice to be able to eat outside and enjoy food under a nice weather. read more

Here's why: When the server came to the table, she didn't introduce herself and quite frankly, she wasn't very professional. I asked her if they made good mojitos, and she enthusiastic said, oh yeah! The mojito was awful: no balance, no alcohol, a bushel of mint (way too much), and poor presentation. The glass of wine my wife ordered was fine, but the glass they used was one of those cheapo glasses that just looked cheap. I returned my mojito for a glass of wine, and when I tried to tell the server the reasons why i was returning the drink, she dismissed me by saying she wasn't going to charge me. Duh! I wasn't going to pay for a crappy drink that I didn't drink. Overall, the food was pretty good. The flat bread was underdone. The arugula salad was good, but it's a salad; not much cooking involved. GG's Bistro saved the day. Party of 4 with a lil doggie, 630pm, no reservations. Usually, it's good luck with that and you'll be eating in Irvine. Seriously, after calling 6 restaurants if we could we be seated, and showing up at another half dozen...we felt like we failed. On our way to the car to leave the area, we popped up the stairs to GG's and they were willing to seat us. It was a perfect setting: table on the balcony in the corner, perfect for us -- perfect for our hound. The menu is a bit small -- don't expect everything to be Turkish. Instead, a few things (kebab, kofte, gyro), salads, pastas, seafood. The way it's billed as "Mediterranean" felt right. What did I/we try? I'll tell you! ======================= 1. Smoked Eggplant Dip [$10, 4.5 stars] -- super tasty, smokey, and creamy. Came with fresh pita slices, delish. #winner 2. Caprese Salad [$14, 4.0 stars] -- fresh, really good. Standard, expected. 3. Pineapple Margarita [$12, 3.0 stars] -- booze is almost always good, but small and a little artificial tasting. Wouldn't order again. 4. Chicken Kebabs [$23, 4.5 stars] -- pricey for chicken (at filet prices), but nice portion, perfectly cooked, rice was supreme (add butter, and you got it!). 5.
