This market is a G_d-send. In these days of difficulty, Glatt is open at 7:30 a.m., stocked with everything one can possible need, with a staff that is so kind and helpful. There is no comparison with any of the major markets in the Los Angeles area, displaying many empty shelves at this time. Glatt Mart is very similar to Elat Market. I got to admit I like their prepared Food a lot more. Their chicken is amazing if you can get because they quickly sell out. Produce is fresh and brought daily. Gets very busy so best times to go is when everyone is at work. read more

I have a deep fondness for Glatt Mart as it has been my neighborhood market for the last 5 years and today I was completely caught off guard by a new cashier named Marlow. Her lack of customer service in the friendly/nice category failed miserably. I felt as though she was annoyed by me before she even started ringing me up. In which case I failed to bring enough money so I had to walk home quickly and grab more. Sorry for that Marlow, didn't mean to ruin your day. It was embarrassing enough not being able to pay the full amount and hardly holding up the line. I come back to get my bags with more than the amount and she continues to treat me awfully as i waited patiently in line to pay for my things. Only for her to send me off to find my cart and wait in line again. As if she got pure joy out of my embarrassment and her harassment. I only was polite, sincere, patient and gracefully calm when I told you that you were being rude. I know life can be annoying Marlow but please try to be more sensitive to other people and carry compassion with you instead of a hurtful attitude. You don't know what other people are going through as they step up into your line and maybe you could use that power for the better and be kind to everyone who waits in your line. Then maybe your life would become a little bit lighter than that stone cold prejudice you wear so well. I am still rating Glatt 5 stars because I love this place and I always look forward to going there even when its crazy busy, but today I left feeling sad and I didn't like that. I often shop at Glatt Mart on Fridays. Is if crowded? Of course. Are the carts large and the isles not so much? Definitely. But everybody manages. The food is of excellent quality and selection, produce is fresh, checkout process is smooth and effortless but what I am most impressed with is parking management. I'm writing this because I live in the area and every once in a while if I forget something at Ralphs and Vons I go to grab whatever. However, every time I go it's an unpleasant experience. The parking lot smells like rotten food, and most of the customers fight for parking and constantly honk . It must drive the neighbors bananas! The valet people park in residential spots (my friend has had numerous problems as she lives next to the market with people - valet and customers - parking in her spot). The rotten food smell carries into the store, and the produce I've gotten rots easily or is bad! I've spent 15 minutes looking for a non-bruised onion before. The produce is also overpriced, and most of the dairy expires days after you buy it (and my old roommate bought cream cheese only to find that it had expired days before). The staff isn't that friendly and trying to make your way through the aisles is a mad house. You can barely fit one cart let alone two! Only thing I've consistently enjoyed their has been the baked goods and the bulk spices. But for that I can just go to Elat. The people are friendly and the produce isn't overpriced (and it's fresh). read more

PIZZA CHEESE. They have a whole aisle header devoted to "Pizza Cheese." I couldn't fathom that there'd be enough product to necessitate a portion of the aisle sign devoted to it, but on further inspection, there totally was. Let me tell you, THEY HAD SO MUCH PIZZA CHEESE. Not only that, KOSHER pizza cheese. There are giant bags on the bottom of the refrigerator for when you need to make an incredible amount of pizzas, and then there are smaller bags for when you need pizza cheese to go. (Market fiend returns) Great kosher market. Decent prices, fresh, produce, okay deli and plenty of Jewish old women scratching and killing for that deal on isle twelve. This place has a fun, cool atmosphere, semi friendly staff, tasty sushi and a decent butchery. A little pricey, but.... dude I am a Jew and I can afford it! I like to come here and kill time. People watch, surf the isles and just try to act like the good Jew boy I am. Some one toss me some freaking Kosher wine, a little brisket, some capon and "bam!" Fun Market, cool staff, crazy Kosher people, some deals, liver, onions, pike, G-Fish and ready to go Jew deals. I could deal with out the crazy aggressive old women and the constant "stop and go." Parking is a fucking nightmare. Navigating the aisles (with a shopping cart, no less...I'd recommend using a hand basket) can make you feel like you're fighting for your life in Tehran circa 1780. But the produce prices are super cheap, and they have wonderful things like haricot vert already stemmed, and organic carrots for 99 cents a pound. You can always find great produce buys like comice pears, sweet Persian lemons, 39cent/lb. brown onions, mandarin oranges, grapes, pomegranates, berries. That said, choose carefully, as the produce I buy here generally doesn't stay fresh for nearly as long as produce from elsewhere. The hummus selection is of course amazing. Prices on grains like couscous, farro, barley, Persian rice, etc. are great. And don't forget to pick up some labneh. Just don't go on a Friday. Even in the morning. I want to start off by saying I love all the employees! Especially Nelson!!! So kind and always so attentive! I love all the fresh fruits! Not crazy about all the Persian women that have no respect and run into you with their carts like they own the place! There is not enough aisle room in the market at all... people are always banging into each other.. Try returning something and the owner always has an excuse that there is absolutely nothing wrong, when clearly the sealed package has been tampered with. Glatt Mart is one of the larger kosher markets in this stretch of little Israel. You can find a vast selection of middle eastern food and spices. Their vegetable section is quite large and the produce doesn't suffer from the standard close-to-expiry issue found in most ethnic markets and Trader Joe's. "Ethnic markets" such as Chinese, Mexican, and smaller kosher marts sell cheaper produce because it's ripe at point of sale and must be used quickly. This is fine for local markets serving immigrant populations who tend to shop for food a day or two at a time, rather than the large market shopper who tends to be a weekly shopper. Glatt Mart serves the neighborhood of Jews and Israelis as if they were a larger chain store, since the population has the shopping needs of both newly arrived and multi-generational residents. You can get your week's worth of groceries here, or locate hard-to-find specific items like zatar, Israeli cheeses, and frozen kosher prepared foods. For a long time, Glatt Mart was the only store to stock Sabra brand hummus, which, for my money, was the best hummus on earth. You can now get it at CostCo in vat-sized tubs. Glatt Mart has a large butcher shop, seafood counter, and sizable dessert shop all inside the store. There's also a good selection of kosher wines (when you need something to bring to shabbat dinner). And of course, a little kiosk blasting tinny Israeli music around the bulk-nuts section. For those wondering, "glatt" means pure, so when you see stores using it in their name it is both as an adjective and a message to the locals that the store itself is under rabbinical supervision. There's a lot of room in that statement, just like "organic" has come to mean a lot of things. If you want to make sure what you're getting is truly kosher, look for the labels and certifications - not the name. Aisles get pretty cramped, and you have to acknowledge that shopping around Israelis is a specific kind of experience. Remain calm. The yelling means they like you. read more

THE WORSE SERVICE Service is terrible from the main older manager & all the workers at the vegetables/fruits & meat/fish department. Also all the checkers are not friendly. They have bad attitude and are rude & not helpful. It is very distressing to shop at Glatt Mart. The place is always busy. At the produce department, they bring in boxes of produce stacked high & hauled in a dolly during the busy hours that it could jeopardize the safety of the costumer. Most of the staff are harsh & do not think to be costumer friendly. One exception, the nuts, candy & wine department staff are friendly & the best staff in the whole store. It is better to shop at Livonia Glatt Market. They are super costumer friendly. I recommend not to shop at Glatt Mart on Pico. Take your business somewhere. read more

How did I not know about the joys of Glatt Mart before? And why was I wasting my time at the rather lame Ralphs and Pavilions nearby? Glatt Mart has a much more interesting selection of produce than the regular markets with many varieties of figs and cherries, donut peaches, persimmons... whatever's interesting an in season, it's there. And normally at a better price than other supermarkets. Seriously, the same pack of NatureSweet tomatoes was more than a dollar less here than in another market I went to a few days before. Also, as others have mentioned, this is hummus heaven. I think they have every variety of Sabra hummus made and then some. As well as many brands of labne, many types of yogurt and lots of other interesting dairy products. This is definitely a market for people who like to cook, and people who are cooking for groups. There are tons of spices, rices, flours and beans. And most of the regular dried goods you'd find in any other market. I can't vouch for the meat or fish (I only do veggies), but I love this market, its European feel, and the Israeli music that's always playing. Word of caution: avoid going if there's a Jewish holiday starting in the next couple of days. It gets crazy and the small aisles make for major shopping cart traffic jams. This place is so Jewish it's insane. Hello five newspapers in hebrew! It should be called 'glat mania' LOL. The only thing that this place doesn't have that I would like to see are higher-quality baking products. Come on, doesn't anyone bake anymore?? Aside from that, they have these chocolate wafers (chocolate-covered) that are excelent for paring with tea. Haven't done a true price comparsion (why are groceies more expensive in LA than any other city in the USA?) but they are WAY cheaper any day than Ralph's and/or Vons when it coes to things like sabra hummus, tahina, and cold cuts, meats etc.. Not sure how much of a price difference there is on Empire meats to Trader Joe's tho. Pretty much the same review for Elat market. Seriously, just combine the businesses, make it easy for everyone! This place has the bigger deli and seafood selection. The other place has better shelve items. I compared the price of the same brand of Quinoa, and this had the cheaper price. But it's a small sample size. So don't go off of just that. Superlative produce! Deli is incredible (my personal favorite is the Mexican Turkey) and the Persian Dinner deal in the hot foods is, in a word, perfect. Reminded of the Belushi line from "The Blues Brothers": This store has EVERYTHING! Nice baked goods section, hot "meat" and deli-salad section, huge refrigerators with about every brand of humus, tehina, matbucha, fish salads, etc. Lots of little kosher markets but this one is the first one with a real "supermarket" feel. So much cheaper than Elat next store. The deli is particularly wonderful - after much taste testing, hands down the best hummus in town.

Decent sized market with a good selection of vegetables and fruit. The prices are very good and I can easily fill a handbasket with less than $10 of fruit and veg if I shop smart. Dried legumes, grains, and flours are reasonably priced too. Meat can be a bit pricy but they also sell packages of bones if you are interested in making your own stock (about $1/lb for chicken backs). They also carry beef tongue which I would normally have to special order from other markets. The sushi isn't bad and the deli-case schnitzel and yellow rice are quite tasty. It is quite close to Elat market but I prefer to go to Glatt because the aisles seem just a little bit less cramped. It can get crazy crowded, especially in the afternoons and on Fridays before they close for Shabbat. I try to go in the morning or close to closing (except Friday). I am close by so I walk to avoid the headache that is parking. There are two small lots which can get crowded and there is no dedicated loading area so you may need to dodge cars, palettes, and forklifts as well as shopping carts if you enter from the alley/parking lot side. read more

Parking: Not good. Like any other Pico Kosher markets. Price: High compare to competitions close by. Quality: same or a little better than competitors. This really depends. For instance, meat and poultry is too expensive for its quality. Fruits and vegetables are average for its quality, Pastry is too expensive, don't even go close to that section. Snacks and cans are good price; Wine is good price but I have found same brand cheaper other places. They make good Sushi in store but again too expensive for a Sushi to go package. Yes, the carts are way to big to easily maneuver through the isles. But, the prices are reasonable, selection good, and produce is fresh. Add to it that they have a great wine selection and you have my favorite LA Kosher market. Their Parve desserts are pretty good. The Caramelized Almond things are really good over Parve Ice Cream as a easy and yummy Shabbot Dessert. The only thing that bugs me is you have to enter on only one side, leave your canvas shopping bags up ( I hate being treated as a criminal when I am not one. Not to mention no other stores ask you to do that) the front and the fore mentioned too big carts. That's why only 4 stars. read more
