They close the store anytime they want . The website says closes at 3 pm , bunch of people came like us at 2:45 on Friday before Shabbos, they turned us away - security guy said we are closed ! They can ruin your Shabbos plans ! Very unreliable!

Their rice, fries and chicken are excellent. They have a large selection of products from Israel. My Osem vanilla wafers were very good. This is one of the larger Kosher groceries in the area. The main negative here are the prices are much higher for some items like the kettle chips costing me $4 that goes for half that at nearby Ralph's. Overall, this is one of the better kosher groceries in the area.

So much cheaper than Elat next store. The deli is particularly wonderful - after much taste testing, hands down the best hummus in town.

I had no idea if LANGER'S was as good as I had heard others rave. Today, being in the area on business over to HACLA, I decided to drive a 1/2 mile (approx) east on Wilshire (at Rampart), to the southeast corner of Alvarado & 8th Street. Circled LANGER'S block once, as parking is not too easy to come by, but I found one metered space across the west side of Alvarado right across from LANGER'S. I parked and crossed the street. Once inside, a very courteous female voice greeted: "WELCOME". Turns out it was the voice of SHAE, one of the Hostesses. I immediately held her at attention as I proceeded to tell Shae, the story you just read of how long I've know of LANGER'S but never stopped in. I also suggested to Shae, to go to YOUTUBE and search for one of HUEL HOUSER'S "VISITING" segments. HUEL featured LANGER'S on the segment entitled, "COW TONGUE / VISITING WITH HUELL HOUSER!" Shae promised she'd look it up. Well, for now, let's just tell you: LANGER'S had been slated (last year) to close its doors forever. And I was appalled (at the thought) I'd NEVER enjoyed a PASTRAMI or COW TONGUE sandwich. As of tonight, I got a belly full of a very delicious cow tongue deli sandwich, my wife, the pastrami and we're fine. Try one! You won't regret it. BTW, if you call (and you CAN) your order by phone or on line, they provide curbside service. One of my featured photos shows that PICKUP section. OK! For now, that's it and thanks!

It really makes sense they have michelin & community recognition. Menu was HUGE. Inside was HOMEY old school vibes. The signature #19 pastrami meat was worth the hype and big enough for two people. The staff split the dish in half for us on two equal plates. Chili fries were GOOD (and I don't even like chili??). It's been around for decades and has served tons of patrons over the years. Inside is huge with all sorts of tables and booths so it can host many different sized groups from small to large. It's located in a small shopping center so there is plenty of free parking attached directly in front, which is extremely convenient. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. For this visit, I started off with a cup of the Chili and thought it was actually really good. I am a huge fan of chili and don't often get some that I really love, but this was definitely one of those. Next came the Mini Blintzes and these were pretty nice. I prefer a full Blintz because it has a lot more cheese and filling, but still these were a nice start, especially if are were new to this appetizer. For my entrée, I chose the Pastrami Reuben and thought it was great. It was honestly huge and I even forgot to take a picture of it because I was excited to eat it. I would suggest if you are a fan of Rubens and would suggest this restaurant in general if you like a good deli.

People were friendly and service was fairly quick. Overall, the sandwich was really well done. The fresh rye bread was so lovely. It was crispy crunchy and had a nice toastiness to it. The meat was flavorful, not too salty, and moist. And the sauerkraut added a nice crunchy tang. All in all, the sandwich was delicious and devoured in under 20min. It was plenty for both my husband and I to share a single sando. For the sides, the steak fries needed a lil salt but otherwise a decent filler side. The slaw was creamy and crisp and very refreshing. The pickles were a little under pickled and tasted a lil more cucumber-y than we'd like. Overall a solid experience and we'd visit again when we're back in the area.

I stopped in just before the lunch rush--a good strategy, especially on a Dodgers game day--and everything clicked from the moment I walked in. The first thing that caught my eye was Elizabeth carving lamb right off the bone and building my French Dip sandwich in front of me. That's not theater; that's the way they've done it for years, and I loved every minute of it. The lamb dip was outstanding, just as I remembered. Add a crisp pickle, a side of coleslaw, and a Miller Genuine Draft, and you've got a lunch that doesn't need any fancy introductions. The sawdust on the floor may be gone, but the personality certainly isn't. Philippe's still feels like old Los Angeles. People share tables, strike up conversations, and enjoy a meal without anyone rushing them out the door. Then there's something you almost never find downtown anymore--free parking. That's worth mentioning all by itself. Could I explain why I'm giving Philippe's five stars? I suppose I could. But when you have friendly people like Elizabeth, a fresh lamb dip made right in front of you, reasonable prices, free parking, and more than a century of Los Angeles history, what more could you ask for? You may have seen this review, or a version of it, in one of the local publications I write for. I always pay for my own meals, and my opinions are my own.

If you're visiting the area, I highly recommend making a stop here. My biggest piece of advice is to go early because it gets incredibly busy by lunchtime--and for good reason! Keep in mind they are closed on Monday and Tuesday. While you can order online, I'll always choose to go inside so I can browse everything they have to offer. Their selection of fresh pasta salads is fantastic, and the desserts are always tempting. Whether you're craving lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, a chicken Parmesan sandwich, or one of their many other Italian specialties, you really can't go wrong. Be sure to check out the wine section in the back left of the market. It's extensive and absolutely incredible! This is the kind of place that keeps people coming back year after year, and it's easy to see why. Being Italian American and growing up with an Italian mother who loved feeding everyone, this was one of our favorite places to visit together. Those memories make every trip here even more special. My personal favorite is the Godmother sandwich--hands down one of the best you'll ever have. It's packed with flavor, made with quality ingredients, and it's the sandwich I find myself craving every time I come back. One of the things I love most about this place is the atmosphere. It has an energy that immediately makes you think of family. Everyone is genuinely kind, welcoming, and happy to help, making you feel right at home the moment you walk through the door. It has that warm, old-school Italian family vibe that's becoming harder and harder to find, and it's a big part of what makes this place so special.
