This is by far the best black goat soup I've had in LA. The broth is rich and deeply flavorful without any of the strong gaminess that can sometimes come with goat dishes. When you enter a Korean restaurant and 70% of the customers are old Korean ladies, you know you found a gem. Gatekeeping comes to mind, but this family run establishment should get their flowers. They've been around since 2002. They've been doing goat since Kobe the GOAT and Shaq were doing three-peats. Thanks to David, #bestoflafood for posting his video review. The three course meal is the way to go. We called ahead of time to make reservations. Owner aka, "Superstar" thanked us and recommended making a reservation in case they run out. They only cook two whole goats each day. One ready at 12 pm and another at 6 pm. For the three course meal, you can choose from the goat ribs ($80), front leg ($100) or the hind leg ($120). Then you add the hot pot and fried rice ($40). The three course meal with the goat ribs were perfect for 3 people. Flavors were simple yet complex. It's not as gamey as one would think. The salt and pepper dry dip and the fermented paste with hot mustard added some flavor bombs. The hot pot broth tasted clean and resets your palette. It made you dive in for more ribs and banchan. Back and forth, It was a roller coaster of flavors. The banchan was perfect. They provided two types of kimchi. One was an oyster base and another fermented for 30 days. The 30 days had this pungent pop of flavor. The other two were spicy cucumber and bean sprouts. Just the right amount of banchan to let the goat be the GOAT. Just when you thought the ride was over, you get one last hoorah. "Superstar" takes what's left of the hot pot and makes a crispy kimchi fried rice. At first bite you get this deep savory mouthful and it makes you go for more kimchi. The fermented one elevated the rice even higher. Make sure you scrape the pot and get every bit of crispy rice goodness. What a way to end this GOAT experience. read more

I honestly regret not discovering this place sooner. I lived in LA before moving to Orange County almost 10 years ago, and I've always loved nourishing dishes like goat hot pot, so I've eaten it fairly regularly over the years. This time, I was back in LA and saw photos of the hot pot, which made me visit. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to order the boiled meat separately, but I did get to try some as a tasting along with the hot pot. You can really tell they use very fresh meat daily. Boiled goat meat absolutely depends on freshness, and this had no smell at all. It was even more tender and flavorful than places in Korea that operate their own dedicated farms. The hot pot was just as impressive. At many other places, the meat tends to be frozen, so once it cools down a bit, you start to notice an odor and the texture becomes dry. Here, the meat stayed soft, tender, and pleasantly bouncy. The broth was extremely clean and well-balanced, and the vegetables were generous. Even though I was already full, I couldn't stop myself from finishing the fried rice at the end. Thanks to the kind and welcoming owner, I truly enjoyed a wonderful meal. Goat is in the place's name, so we had to get the goat stew for 2, which was the right call. The stew was fresh, spiceful, savory, bold, and hearty. And it was plentiful! We were treated to heaping amounts of goat and veggies in the stew, as well as unlimited sides. Plus I was curious about goat: I like goat cheese and goat curry, why not goat stew? Service was excellent, workers are some of the most friendly I have seen. They were curious which kpop concert I was attending it's Ampers&One for anyone reading, three of the boys are from Boys Planet survival show by mnet. I was served quickly and provided with to go box when I have to run out. Luckily my food was not confiscated by the venue so I was able to have goat for breakfast the next day.
