Spent almost $50 including tip and delivery fees on TWO dishes! Definitely not worth it for Chinese food. We ordered minute chicken and salt and pepper pork. I expected my minute chicken to include cake noodle as I noted, but there was absolutely NO starch. The item description did not say this was an ala carte item and being that I noted cake noodle, at least a call to clarify my order would have been appreciated. The salt and pepper pork breading was thick, and tasted like cake. Not salty or peppery at all. And such a small portion! Very disappointed in the pricing, quality and lack of transparency about dish descriptions when ordering my food through the app. If you do order, I'd suggest calling to clarify your dishes and requests! Besides the Chinese food, they had Laska. I tried the one with beef brisket with rice vermicelli. Mildly spicy. [Laksa is a spicy noodle soup popular in the Peranakan cuisine of Southeast Asia. I read a ton of reviews before going here and it seems like this place is really hit or miss. Unfortunately mine was a miss. Food was very bland. Broccoli beef with cake noodles had ZERO flavor (the noodles weren't soggy at least). Kau yuk was a little less bland than the broccoli beef, oyster sauce chicken was WAY too salty. The only good dish we had was the gau gee, crispy and savory. We ordered for take out so can't review the service or ambiance too well. Would not recommend and will not be going back. read more

We had lunch with my sister and brother-in-law a couple weeks ago because the restaurant was recommended by a friend who raved about it. It's a comfortable place with booths for seating. The restaurant is on the north side of King Street between McCully and University Avenue. Parking was adequate along the building, but some parking spaces were designated with very short time limits. I really wanted to have cake noodles during my visit to Honolulu since i grew up eating it, and it's a local method of preparing noodles that I can't find here in So Cal. My brother-in-law and I both ordered their minute chicken over cake noodles. My husband ordered a duck won ton noodle soup, and my sister ordered a combination plate with duck, chicken and bbq pork. While the food was ok, my husband and I weren't wowed by any of the dishes during our visit. My sister seemed to enjoy her meal, though. They had a very extensive menu with daily specials posted on the wall. I suppose I'd try them again the next time we're in town since I saw some dishes that sounded pretty good. read more

First time ordering from this place because I needed a quick lunch delivery through Door Dash. I've always lived close by, but this restaurant was never in my radar until now. Strictly based on my takeout delivery--portion size is decent for two foodies or three people (which is a good price point for my orders). The sweet sour pork was the highlight of my lunch, and I'm not going to lie....I ate 2/3 of it myself. On a good day, I could inhale that entire thing alone. Mongolian beef was okay but doesn't match my palate. As a hot-spice person, the flavor was extremely mild/bland (even with the peppers) so one small container of mustard sauce wasn't enough. Other than the taste, the beef was very soft and easy to eat. Matches great with the caramelized onions. The Yong Chow fried rice is what I expected. Not sure how different it is from other fried rice but it seemed pretty standard. Overall, I would rate this review with 4.5 stars but I had a satisfied meal. When I have the chance, I'll buy lunch from here again, with the sweet sour pork being my go-to dish. read more

I remember eating at Golden Eagle about 12 years ago and everything was slightly salty. So this time, we were craving wun tun mein and decided to give it another try for lunch. It was winnahs. My late father in law loved this placed and it did bring back memories. We ordered the basic wun tun mein and the wun tun fun. Both were very tasty and I felt that the broth wasn't just your basic chicken broth but instead was a complex concoction of ginger and different spices. It didn't have that msg taste. The noodles and look fun were basic, but the wun tuns had a lot of pork and generously filled. Won bok and choy sum with char siu complemented the dish. 5stars for food and service. I came to this restaurant as it was rated #3 best Chinese restaurant in Waikiki by Yelp readers and #17 by TripAdvisor readers. First it is not located in Waikiki, but a 25 minute walk from Hilton Hawaiian Village, to well north of the Ala Wai Canal, close to the Moiliili Community thrift store, at the very end of a strip mall farthest from the street. Hole in the wall place, with vinyl seats and cafeteria style tables, on kitchen type floor. OK not the best of ambiance, with big windows overlooking the crowded parking lot. No ocean view. At least you can watch your car in not the best of neighborhoods! I ordered the $8 lunch plate of pot roast, sweet and sour ribs, pork chop suey, Gau Gee and rice. Wife gets the $9.75 Singapore Mai Fun. Service is on the slow side, but the wait is worth it, with plates of large servings. The pork chop suey has a lot of vegetables mixed in with pork and egg. The pot roast is on the greasy side, with hunks of fat. The sweet and sour ribs has plenty of meat and goes well with the white rice. I was only able to finish half the dish, taking the rest back to the HHV condo. Huge serving of Singapore Mai Fun, complete with green bell peppers, onions, sliced pork, scrambled egg and shrimp mixed with yellow curry vermicelli noodles. Not too spicy and not overpowering with the yellow curry, just the right blend of flavors. We can barely eat half of it. It rained 5 of the 7 days we were in Honolulu Feb 12-19, and we were lucky not to get soaked on the half hour walk back to HHV. Taking Thebus would have involved walking about half the distance. Show our Medicare cards and it's only a buck, instead of the usual $2.25. Not sure if the TripAdvisor readers have good taste in Chinese food. I'm ending the year with a review of my favorite Chinese restaurant in Honolulu for take out! I don't plan to be out on New Year's Eve so ordered takeout as soon as they opened this morning. I love that the food is always delicious and portions are good. The vegetables in all their dishes are fresh and never overcooked. They pack the food well, service is always friendly and accommodating. You feel they appreciate your business. I just picked up Shanghai Noodles for lunch, Cold Ginger Chicken for dinner, Crispy Gau Gee to snack on (they sell just a half order, which I like, since I am watching my cholesterol). I love their Oxtail Soup, which I get frozen. I can have that in the next day or so. Today I also got a bag of Shrimp Chips! Their Char Sui Chow Fun and Beef Tomato are two of my favorites. In my opinion, their Char Sui Chow Fun is one of the best. I'm wrapping up this review and posting photos from today. I highly recommend trying Golden Eagle. I live near golden eagle and decided to try out the place with my boyfriend. We ordered General Taos chicken, the crispy pork dumplings (I don't remember what they were called right now) and some fried rice. It was all super delicious, and up to that point I would have given 5 stars. Unfortunately, the next morning, something felt very wrong within me and I was knocked out the whole day with some horrible food poisoning. This was the only food it could have been, and I couldn't eat or drink anything all day because (tmi) I would throw it up. My boyfriend was completely fine though, so it's luck of the draw I suppose. I mean, there are more mushrooms on it compare to scallops but the savory flavor & the beautiful texture makes my tummy so delighted. The only downside is just they put way too much minced garlic which I don't like. By the way, I opt this one without rice as they will put more scallop, they said. So, I can imagine a few scallops then if you opt for the one with the rice. Oxtail soup with rice ($13.99) is my bandit's choice. And of course, we both frickin' love it! The broth is so tasty & the spices they put in is just right. The meat is tender & silkier short rib in terms of texture. Crispy gau gee is the perfect appetizer to munch on. It is my bandit's first time & probably mine too having gau gee & it is pretty good. Pork filling but I kind'a don't mind it coz I can't taste the after pork taste in every bite. The lady who took our order was so patience to us & she explained what's on the dish firmly. She even told us that their cook is the brother of the owner of Domo Cafe. What a fun fact! Now we know. Verdict. We love the food. So far no worm on top of our dishes (I've read one of the reviews that they got worm on their food). Delectable dishes, so t'was belly approved! Decided to order carry out dinner here one night while in town for business. Had the sesame chicken and orange chicken. Both were just ok. Orange chicken had too much of a vinegar flavor with orange. The sesame chicken was better although had no sesame seeds at all. Crab Rangoon were alright but the real let down was the crispy wontons. Perhaps I misunderstood but these were not what I was expecting. These were mostly flat wontons skins, fried crispy and where the meat was supposed to be, was slightly pinched with an unrecognizable amount of what I believe was a 1/4 tsp worth of meat. For what looks like a typical Americanized Cantonese greasy chopstick restaurant from the outside, it is far from it. There menu is vast with the basics and unique offerings. What drew me in for this visit, was I heard they started offering Laska. Laska is a personal favorite of mine and love hitting up what few places offer it. If you have never heard of it, Laksa is a spicy noodle soup popular in the Peranakan cuisine of Southeast Asia. Laksa consists of thick wheat noodles or rice vermicelli with chicken, prawn or fish, served in spicy soup based on either rich and spicy curry coconut milk or on sour asam. The soup base tends to be more liquidly and not to thick despite the added coconut milk. All the goodies that are added into it based on your likings make for fun hunting while enjoying this heart warming bowl of complex flavors that all work well together in the end. Seafood Laksa is my favorite and usual go to, but they also offer beef and chicken for those wanting something different. The serving is large, so it will satisfy the most hungry person. It is meant to be spicy, but they can control the level for you. However, if you really need and extra kick, they have their own homemade chili sauce that is the bomb and a perfect ignitor to launch your Laksa to the moon. Well, hopefully just to your stomach. The place is clean and service very friendly with how attentive and accommodating they are. The one drawback is the parking. Timing could be an issue, so best to plan ahead and dine early or late off the prime times. read more

The food wasn't quite what we were expecting, these guys have more traditional flavors, which was good... just not what we had in mind. We got the shrimp chow mein and salt and pepper pork. It is probably an item they have in bulk in a big pot, but I would have thought it was have tasted better. Ate a piece, and we decided we were just going to toss it. I've had their Wor won ton, and roast duck noodle soup, both of which are good. I also regularly take out their dinner plate, char siu fried rice and crispy gau gee mein. Food is fresh, portions are on the smaller side compared to other Chinese restaurants but it makes up for that in quality. Pricing is fair. I used to go to Golden Duck but the quality there has really gone downhill in my opinion. Thankfully, Golden Eagle is there to pick up the slack. read more

My go to dinner is the Crispy Gau Gee Mein with Cake Noodle. It comes with shrimp, beef, char siu, veggies and 4 pieces gau gee on the side. This dinner plate is filling and there's more noodles than anything, but I'm always craving more meat. I've even contemplated asking them to charge me for extra shrimp, but I never have. Their gau gee is the best IMO and it stays crispy even after refrigeration! I've ordered a large pan (96) pieces off the catering menu for around $100 on a few occasions and it's always a hit at parties. Side note, the sauce for the gau gee is nothing special so I have my own sweet/sour sauce on standby. With this in mind, perhaps ask for a hot mustard sauce so you can have another option. Service is always friendly and they called me to double check the pick up time so the gau gee would be hot and fresh. Great communication, nice staff, food has always been fresh and hot. They have lots of goodies at the register such as cookies, shrimp chips, bottles of sauces, and my favorite, the sesame waffles. Highly recommend! The only negative is the inside. I wouldn't want to dine in. It looks like a storage room full of boxes and stuff, but perhaps they're not fully recovered from the pandemic takeout situation. September 12, 2020 Decided to have a take out dinner with the wife at Golden Eagle for it has been some time since we last visited, possibly a year and a half to 2 years. As we parked and got out of our car, noticed 2 unfamiliar front end employees in the restaurant. Didn't see the usual happy George or Jennifer. I was a bit bewildered and thought we went to another Chinese restaurant in another area but I saw the Golden Eagle signage on the wall. We entered and the restaurant is pandemic prepared with sanitizer and employees masked up in preparation but we asked what happened to George and Jennifer? They had sold the business in August 2019 and enjoying semi retirement life at this point. George and Jennifer will be missed that makes up the customer service of this restaurant. The cook in the kitchen is different and a bit of different atmosphere due to the pandemic situation. The lady who took our order, Mui, the new owner family, recognized us from when we had dim sum at Nice Day in Liliha Square before. Usually I would be the one to recognize people by either name or face but I FAILED! Pretty good Mui for the facial recognition of both of us. We ordered the scallop soup, 8 pieces of crispy gau gees, Honey walnut chicken and E-mein noodles with pieces of chicken, corn and gravy style. The order was prepared in 10 minutes and boxed and mask taped from shifting while driving. Good customer service!! Taste: The scallop soup was hot and spot on in taste and the pieces of scallops were savored in every bite. The gau gees were good also but my wife prefers Duk Lee's one but still good!! The Honey walnut chicken was ok according to my wife and I had thought she ordered the shrimp style than the chicken. Very unusual but I told her next time, just order the usual shrimp because it tastes better in that style but maybe she preferred something different. I think next time, she's going for the traditional shrimp style and I ate a few chops of walnuts which were good and warm Lastly, the E-mein with bits of chicken, corn and gravy was just ok and nothing more to write about except that I wanted to eat E-mein noodles and should have ordered the won ton soup with E-mein substitute. I actually asked Mui for young corn but got pieces of corn than the miniature whole corn that is sometimes served in other Chinese dishes but probably a misunderstanding and I didn't checked the take out container if she got my request but then again, I should have checked and ended as a misunderstanding. The food overall was good but kind of preferred the Golden Eagle from before new ownership but it is what it is. We would come back again and try some other dishes and the ones we love to eat also from before. Stay safe and protected!! read more

This is one of the best Chinese food places I have ever eaten at. Not too greasy and not too salty. A lot of times I can taste old oil in the food but this does not have that funk to it. These are the pictures of the half eaten food and it was absolutely delicious. The broccoli was not over cooked and the beef brisket chow fun was cooked to tender perfection. Oh. My. God. Sadly my niece who makes a pretty good batch of Chinese New Year Jai wasn't able to make it this year. She was goofing around in London earlier so was too busy. I went first to three different and reputably good restaurants to get my jai fix on. And the reason why I went to three is because all three served me jai that were major disappointments. After giving away the jai from those first three restaurants I decided to make one last ditch attempt to go to a restaurant I've only tried a few other times. The three restaurants I went to are vaulted well known and I bought an order from each. I won't denigrate the other fine restaurants but one restaurant, well, their jai was bitter and stinky. The second restaurant which usually has pretty good food, their jai was stuffed to the brim with mostly wonbok cabbage and bean thread noodles, the cheap stuff. The third restaurant much to my dismay actually used garlic in their jai. No! No! No! Now I've seen some recipes on YouTube that suggests that "Buddha's Delight" never includes strong flavors which I think interferes with the monks "libido." And so they avoid garlic, onions and ginger in their food but especially New Year's food. In any event I have never had garlic in my jai and I gagged on the first bite. Put garlic in my pesto, put garlic in my kimchi, but in Buddhist food? No thank you. But because I was so hungry for a really good bowl of jai, I tried a fourth restaurant, Golden Eagle Chinese restaurant. I was on the road and they told me it would take 10 minutes. I drove there and not to my surprise there was no parking, but I ran in with my car's flashing lights on. When I got home, much to my delight (my Buddha's delight) I opened up an order of hot, aromatic, most delicious order of jai I've ever eaten! Sorry to my niece but I'll be returning every New Year's to this wonderful dish. No only because I like this dish a little on the sweeter side, I did put about a scant level teaspoon of sugar into it. It was wonderfully stuffed with jai's more expensive items, huge crispy wood ear fungus, sweet tender and juicy shiitake mushrooms, firm chewy fujuk and a smidge of other lesser expensive items. It had a couple of decent sized deep fried very fresh and sweet tofu. Very thin fresh bean noodles, just a scant crunchy wonbok, and all the mostly expensive items were swimming in a beautiful red bean curd gravy. The expensive bean curd. I don't recall the last time I called the restaurant back to thank them for the delicious food. But towards dinner time after I had run out of my jai lunch, I decided to call them to let them know how pleased I was. Their jai was not dry and bitter, it was actually well saturated and sweet. And I don't mean sugar sweet. I mean aromatic and delicious. There was no garlic, there were no stinky oysters, only crunchy crispy fresh vegetables. Needless to say, I'm going back again tomorrow for a lot more. I'm giving to the others that I gave the inferior jai to earlier this week and this by way of apologizing. I slurped up every bit of it And even drink the gravywas so satisfied! And to be perfectly honest? I think Buddha himself would have been most pleased. read more

I've dined at Golden Eagle a few years ago and didn't have a chance to go back again, my experience at that time was great. Recently my sister went for dinner and she had a great experience. She mentioned they they have a new owner and that the cook is from Legend. We made plans for our Chinese New Year family dinner here. I also went for dinner with my family on a separate occasion. Golden Eagle is located in Mo'ili'ili, on South King Street, on the opposite end of Kozo Sushi. It is tucked away, for someone new to this little complex you would not have known that there is a Chinese restaurant, like my mom and other half. It is next to Sweet Home Cafe, parking is available but really busy and confusing. The restaurant reminds me of mom and pop, hole in the wall and has been around for a long time, but now that they have a new owner, things may change. When I dined here prior to Chinese New Year, we had a very great experience/dinner. My party of 6 opted for the special set menu, The set menu are reasonable. The set we got that night was special, for 8 for $99.99, Serena was our waitress that night and she was very nice. We were able to sub 3 items on the menu for another entree for no extra charge and even had extra servings of rice, my family loves rice! My family and I enjoyed everything on the set menu, the walnut shrimp was a decent size and I do think it is the best I've had so far, for walnut shrimp. First time trying scallop soup and I really enjoyed it. The portion was enough for our party of 6 that night. and we were able to BYOB. Note - * on this recent visit, I realized the portions size is really small we were here for Chinese New Year dinner, and reserved one table for 10. We got the set menu for 10 plus ordered additional 2 entree for my dad who is vegetarian and 2 more entree. The portions are not made enough for 10. Its is really a small portion. The last time I dined at family style and got the set menu, I remember the portions are bigger and enough for 10. Keep in mind, you may need to order more, if you are doing the set menu for party of 10. The special set menu for 10 is 159.99 which comes which Ginger Onion Lobster, the lobster was nothing special, it was tiny and didn't taste fresh. We also got the special of frog legs and fried Shishamo, I didn't get a chance to try but my other half mentioned it taste weird and was salty. They were also busy that night due to Chinese NY and short staffed. Service wasn't as great as the previous visit, We waited awhile for some of our food orders and items. Overall, would I come back again after our Chinese New Year dinner? Yes! The location is convenient for me as I live close by but I don't think I will do the special menu for 10 again, I will say NO to that and I will just order off the menu and dine Chinese style or maybe just do the special menu for 8 instead for a party of 6.
