I saw on the website their jai looks good. It was good. Lots of fungus, watercress nuts, snow peas, fook chu, black mushrooms, long rice, and other things I can't remember. Located in the Old Stadium strip mall across the park. Parking can be iffy. We came here for late lunch and got the gau gee mein and won ton mein. I was looking for Lo mein ( dry noodles served with broth on the side) but the guy (owner?) told me that they didn't serve anything like that. BUT he was very knowledgeable and explained there are regional differences in noodle dishes. Learned something that day! And he did serve me the noodles with the soup on the side! Mahalo! My sister and brother inlaw brought me here for dinner. The area where the restaurant is not to easy to find. Of course they live in this area so it was easy for them. Parking is not bad but there is alot of other eating establishments. So it can get busy. Golden Eagle is a typical hole in the wall chinese restaurant. But i really like the ambiance. My sister picked this place for lunch. It's a busy Cantonese Style Chinese restaurant. The restaurant is located to the left if your traveling on S. King St. You can find it at the same location as Tori ton and Lunar Tea in a small strip mall. We ordered the soft won ton noodle in gravy and the chicken cake noodle. They provided iced water and hot tea with our meal. You have an array of condiments to add to your shoyu dish if you like it spicy. The tables were somewhat clean (spilled water on the table) when we entered, The lady who was taking orders from other customers saw us enter and she wiped up the table we sat down on. Great service here. We placed our order, and our dishes came out quickly, within ten minutes or less! Large servings for each dish. We ended up taking home leftovers. A nice surprise was the homemade Chinese Waffles they had for sale at $8.00 a bag. A true delight. I thought it would be similar to Chinese pretzels but it was not. Extremely crisp and fragile thin waffle like crisps? I can't properly describe it, but you need to try it! The soft won ton in gravy was yummy and with enough vegetables to make me happy. As usual the tea, was serverd first--disappointingly it was bland --the weakest element of the meal. I prefer a strong flowery tea, like a Jasmine. My friend and I ordered four dishes. From childhood i must have a noodle dish, traditionally in my family it's Soft Gau Gee Mein, gravy style. We asked the server if the Gau Gee had shrimp as my friend is allergic. She said no shrimp. But the dish itself arrived with two shrimps. Next time I'll be clear--no shrimp. The Gau Gees are filled about 1/3 full, not as stuffed as I'm used to. Stuffed Bittermelon --this was the stand out dish of the night. My friend and I enjoyed it He's the bitter melon fan. I'm acquiring the taste for it. Nice sized pieces of bitter melon stuffed with minced pork, in a black bean sauce, not too salty. No leftovers--Yum! Eggplant with tofu--This dish was the least eaten, of all the dishes. Standard eggplant dish. Kauyuk with taro (Pork belly with taro)--We enjoyed this dish. Sweet savory. First time my friend tried this dish and he liked it. Tummies satisfied. Service was friendly and helpful, if not the fastest (though they seem to have a thriving takeout so we're often busy with that). Won ton soup came with a nice assortment of veggies and a generous 12 wontons. It was pretty good, nice wontons, a bit of char siu, and good price for the amount you get. Beef and broccoli was a bit heavy on the cornstarch but the broccoli was cooked to perfection, and the cake noodles crispy outside and soft in. On our last visit, I forgot my dum-dum treat on the table. As I rushed back in to retrieve it, the server was rushing to meet me with the bathroom key. Was randomly craving chow mein when we ordered these items and it was a tough find. They didn't seem to have just a plain chow mein option - veggies only so I'm thinking this might not be the chinese food that I'm used to getting back home. Food arrived and was packed very well and presented nicely as you can see in my pictures. The flavor and texture was off for me on the chow mein. I think it was a different noodle style than I'm used to and it got soggy fast once you mixed everything around so it was more like shrimp chow mush for me. I ended up eating the vegetables and my dining partner ate the noodles so it worked out. Salt and pepper pork was okay. Most the pieces were just fat instead of being meaty sections. The spices weren't evenly distributed on the dishes either so some had very little flavor and some had all the flavor. Some of their other dishes might be better because the menu was huge! Got a dinner plate, minute chicken cake noodle and a hot sour soup. Dinner plate was ok, ginger chicken had the normal good flavor to it. Sweet sour spareribs was good too and meaty. New owners took over three years ago 3. Online menu makes ordering via "Grindz To Go" convenient I read the menu to my sister as she did household tasks. We agreed to get: *Beef Chow Funn *Hom ha oong Choi *Sweet sour Fish Filet *Steamed Pork Hash with salted Duck Egg *Crispy Gau Gee *Snow peas with Shrimp *Asparagus with Scallops *Long green beans - I appreciated that the non spicy option was available As I was driving to the restaurant, they called me to confirm my order. This was excellent because I had forgotten to order the cake noodles. They were even able to customize this added on item to include black mushrooms and tofu on top of the cake noodles! When I got to Old Stadium Mall, there were a few open parking spaces in the shared lot. Golden Eagle is located at the end of the building (after Shingen and Lunar Tea), closest to Young Street. They marveled over the strong flavor of the hom ha in the oong Choi. The chef did not hold back on the savoriness! We discussed how hard it is to find steamed pork hash with salted duck egg. Many restaurants will not give up a burner to dedicate for the cooking of this menu item. The textures of the cake Noodle and the chow fun were spot on. Ordering online gave the option to substitute beef for chicken. Ordering in person allowed me to customize the cake noodle toppings! The fish fillets allowed us to enjoy the fish without the inconvenience of bones. The sweet sour sauce included bell peppers and had an authentic flair. The Gau gee was nicely crisp and stuffed with tender, tasty ground pork! We didn't even need the sweet sour dipping sauce! We enjoyed the leftovers for dinner with my niece and nephew. Came here for Food-A-Go-Go week to help support the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation education programs. The staff was very friendly and welcoming however, the food was not up to my expectations. Besides ordering the Food-A-Go-Go special: boneless minute chicken cake noodle, we decided to order: House special fried rice with garlic, beef broccoli, honey walnut shrimp, and salt and pepper pork. The food came out quickly and everything but the fried rice were seasoned a little too heavily with salt. The cake noodle was too soggy on the inside and tasted burnt on the outside which didn't complement the minute chicken. The fried rice was a little on the bland side which didn't really balance out the saltiness of every dish we tasted. The salt and pepper pork was not only salty but overly battered where I couldn't taste any meat from the dish. The honey walnut shrimp was also overly battered and salty; the honey coated walnuts didn't balance the saltiness either. I am not sure if we went on an off night for this place as there are many other great reviews but my experience with the food wasn't the greatest. Was a regular here from George and Jennifer days. Even frequented this place when they were taken over by new management. Food is consistently good. Went through a honey walnut shrimp and green onion ginger sauce on top of white rice obsession a while back. Tasted this combo through out various eateries- LnL, Maple Garden, Asian Mix- and Golden Eagle turned out to be triumphant each and every time. This combo is game changer and once you've tried this it won't leave your mind. Prices have increased over time...But that's the same story for everywhere it seems. Also don't bother with their rewards program/clover. Management does not seem to honor it even with all the points you accumulate. Mind you, we usually go to Au's Garden or Lagoon in Lagoon Dr. Which are both pretty good but... Golden Eagle, by far is my new favorite!! Golden Eagle has gone through a couple of ownership changes over the years. A typical local neighborhood Chinese restaurant, their dishes are pretty consistent and tasty. Like many restaurants, when they are overwhelmed with orders the quality of the dishes can suffer, mostly in terms of overcooking and over seasoning. Such was the case recently when one of our dishes, the black mushroom, tofu with vegetables, a simple stir fry vegetarian type dish. This one was pretty salty and had definitely been over-cooked. And yet, it still retained enough of what the dish should be for enjoyment. We also had the ubiquitous honey walnut shrimp which was done to perfection and was delicious. The Chinese Chicken salad was a little off but we nevertheless enjoyed it. When we picked it up during prime time dinner hour, they were busy to the hilt. But the one gal who was helping with the take out. Was polite, courteous and handled the pressure well. I was behind a gal who picked up two separate orders, and the orders were pretty big. It took awhile but everyone kept their cool and waited patiently. Yup, the service under pressure was great. Note: even if you called in your order, there is not separate line, you wait in line with everyone. A guy boldly and quickly went to the front to ask about his phone in order and he was quickly told it was not his turn- go to the back of the line. Located on South King St, in the Moilili area across Stadium Park, but they are really on Young St. Parking is ALWAYS a problem hea... with only 1 row of stalls that also feed the other establishments, finding parking is sometimes a hassle. Street parking is also an option on King St... Young St you will have to make sure you are not blocking any driveways or check for posted no parking signs. This is the main reason why only 4 stars... nothing to do with the food! They do have indoor seating, but with COVID still in our mist, only a few may enter and must follow State protocols of Vaccination results, ID or proof of a Negative COVID test. Usually, if only for me, I get the pre-made list of Lunch or Dinner plates depending on what I feel like. If I come with others, I gotta share the Honey Walnut Shrimp. This was the 1st place I ever tried this dish, and now seems like every other spot has something similar. Some other favs... Beef Broccoli Cake Noodle, Lemon Chicken, Roast Duck & Char Siu, Char Siu Fried Rice, and some Crispy Won-Ton... lemme say, some places are really Chang on how they make their Won-Ton with like a teaspoon of filling, but Golden Eagle has be consistent on the portion of filling their wrap into their Won-Tons. I prefer won-ton over gau-gee because the gau gee, though it may have choke more filling, holds choke more oil and tastes much more oily than I like. Plus, haven't had any dishes overly salted or under flavored here, which is why I've been coming here for years. They take reservations. Came to celebrate some combined birthdays. We all ordered a dish and ate family style. Just what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. The music playing reminded me of days when I went to Chinese karaoke. Food came super fast. I like bitter melon and enjoyed the bitter melon with pork in black bean sauce. The bitter melon was the perfect consistency. Blanched to par cook and still had a little bite to it. Good flavor. Salt and pepper pork was nice and crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The salt and pepper soft shell crab came with 2 crabs so we cut them in half to share. The minute chicken cake noodle was yummy. No bones. We got the roast duck and char siu combo plate. It's been a while since I visited Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant. My wife and I used to get take out 3-4 times a month and the foods was consistently good. Tonight it was cold, rainy and windy and my wife wanted soup. I ordered the hot & sour soup, minute chicken cake noodle, stir fried eggplant with fried tofu and pork hash. Service was friendly and efficient. While there was one guy eating in-house, business was primarily take out. Food was ready in under 20 minutes, boxed securely to insure not spillage on the way home. Our order was still hot even after the 15 minute drive home. Hot & sour soup was hot and sour. Very generous portion of eggplant and tofu and the eggplant was tender and well prepared. Minute chicken cake noodle had a good serving of boneless chicken and choi sum. The gravy was tasty and there was just enough of it to moisten the fried cake noodles but not make it soggy. My only disappointment was the pork hash. Serving was good and flavor was spot on but pork was very fatty and the mouth feel was not as good. Did I continue eating the pork hash? Of course! It's a simple dining area with a good amount of tables for customers to dine on. The flavor was local style Chinese and the portion size was good. It's enough to make a person full. I asked for chili oil and got hot sauce instead but that's ok as I fortunately had chili oil at home. The cake noodle was 99% soggy though because the gravy was on it and not packed separately. Maybe you have to ask for gravy on the side? I'm not a huge fan of soggy noodles that made the meal less than favorable.
