OMG! I've been to this restaurant so many times but I'm finally writing a review. It has to be the epitome of mom-and-pop Taiwanese restaurant. It is next to a laundromat! It fairly small inside with only a couple of tables so please no huge groups. The menu is laid out right on top of the wall with pictures so even if you don't speak or read chinese you can point to it. I love the fried rice they make here and the fishball soup taste so good on a cold winter night. Just writing this makes me want to go pay them a visit after work today. If you like Taiwanese hole-in-the-wall type of places this is one you should check out. The beef noodle soup was basic but you're talking to a guy who flew to Taiwan to try out all the local beef noodle joints. Good Shine Kitchen is a great laid back place to eat a good meal if you don't mind the smell and tight space. read more

I was craving for some stinky tofu. I haven't been to this place for a long time now. They did remodel the place. It's cleaner than before. The stinky tofu is still as stinky as i remember. LATE NIGHT EATS! Authentic Taiwanese food. They open late, 7pm, and the close late/early 4am. Looks like they only cater to the young and the drunks. Food is decent if you like typical Taiwanese street food. It's greasy and fatty. But when you're drunk, diet goes out the door. I usually have my friends order, but I love the dumpliings. Let's be honest, the main reason I like this place is because it's open ridiculously late (3 - 4am most nights) - which is incredibly hard to find in my area. Also ... the food isn't all that bad. We had some fried rice, the house special noodle bowl and wonton soup. Everything was actually really decent ... and not a one of us complained. I will say for such a tiny place the service could be better (if you can see all your customers all the time it's probably a good idea to keep an eye out for raised hands in case anyone needs anything - just saying). This place has been around since when i was a child. My parents would always come here after a family night out bowling so I've known about this place for quite some time. Not much has changed. Still the same small place and still the same good Asian food. After a night of drinking the food here will sober you up. Majority of the popular items are on their wall and i only stick to ordering those. I don't even bother with the menu. I usually come here for the fried dumplings and fried pig intestines (again, to sober me up), but I've also had other stuff; Chinese sausage fried rice, noodles, etc. If your Asian, you really can't hate on the food they serve here to be honest. I've been living in the area for quite some years and I pass by this place almost everyday! I finally remembered and found the right time to try it last Thursday (note: they only open at night from 6pm-4am). This place serves Taiwanese food and it's run by maybe two people (a server and a cook). It's a fairly small place with 6-8 tables. They have pictures of some of the more I am guessing best selling food on the wall. We ordered three dishes- fried stinky tofu, minced pork over rice, and beef noodles. The food was average.. a tad bit too salty for my taste. The fried stinky tofu was really smelly but the taste was bland. It didn't have the distinct stinky tofu taste.. lacking a sour like taste?.. not sure.. but it was freshly fried tho. We could hear the sizzling sound from our table as they drop our order into the oil. A lot of people come here to get late night take-outs. read more

They've been here for a long time like about 30+ years. They only open 4 nights a week however, their Taiwanese food is pretty authentic. I like the squid soup with glass noodles and the stinky tofu. How on earth did I ever miss this place? All these years of visiting MP and all I ever do is wandering up and down Valley Blvd... again... How could I have not known about this place? A tiny little restaurant seats no more than say 30 people, is located in a tiny strip mall on the South side of the 10 fwy on Garfield.... Whenever you are hungry past 10pm, I'm totally recommending this place to you! Why? How about these reasons? Oyster Omelets: Really delicious! I've tasted so many in MP, Diamond Bar, SF, LA etc.... this is probably the closest version to the ones made in Taiwan... the sauce was absolutely delicious without so much of that soy sauce saltiness! Perfectly cooked egg concoction coupled with good amount of oysters made this dish a blast to enjoy! Oh... the gelatinous texture was perfect as well! Trust me... this is definitely one of the better ones out there! Braised and fried large intestines... I'm highly recommending this one too! Why? Some of the other places deep fried their intestines and it becomes hard while some other restaurants do not boil their intestines long enough where it's soft to chew on... The texture here is once again perfect... just the softness you are craving for while retaining the perfectly slight crunch... So good with salt and pepper sprinkle! Meat Stew Noodle: This one was definitely not too bad at all either.. however, given I personally enjoy my meat stew noodle with strong flavor they should have offered black vinegar on the table top or mix it in the soup a bit more... but it wasn't bad at all.... (One thing to be noted by owners... don't use thick O' noodles on these noodle dishes... they are way too soggy and nasty to eat... just use ramen yakisoba noodles instead...) I didn't get the chance to try their Stinky tofu and also their popcorn chicken.... but you know sometime in the very near future that is where I'm going to judge on 2 of my favorite dishes... But for now, everything I've tasted has been great! Service: Absolutely awesome... Owner was so nice and sweet that she noticed that Nina R. was little under the weather.. she brought out separate bowls so we wouldn't share each other's germs, and also some hot water on the side for her in case she wanted to soothe her throat... of course all aspects were great as well... I asked one of my friends what is a good place that serves stinky tofu and he recommended me this place! I'm very glad that he did because this place is awesome! I end up ordering not just their stinky tofu but their xiao long bao as well. The stinky tofu is a must try on this restaurant. Yeah, it obviously stinks but don't let the smell scare you away because its really good! It comes with a soy sauce dipping sauce so dip away! The xiao long bao is very juicy. I would say it comes close to Din Tai Fung quality. Very good quality food and prices are just right. A very nice and intimate Taiwanese family restaurant. Plenty of parking spaces around. They are open until 2am so if you're drunk or high and on a budget, this is the right place for you. Be warned that its only open on certain days and its CASH ONLY...(again?!?!) Legitimate Taiwanese food. My brother and I had the house special dry noodles, steamed dumplings, and the intestines. NOMS. Everything was made fresh and steaming hot and we scarfed everything down. The intestines are so crisp & light; the texture adds so much to this simple dish. They serve it with a white pepper/msg on the side so it's you can sprinkle on/dip as much as you'd like. The noodles were perfect, not too firm or soft and had an amazing flavor..sigh, I love Taiwanese food. What I really want to review is the service. The waitress is an absolute sweetheart--she was so patient with us (we walked in at 2am and couldn't decide what to order for the longest time), and just made us feel right at home. I will definitely come back just to support her establishment. I've been here three times now, all as a late night stop for their beef noodles and/or xlb (soup dumplings). This place may not be the fanciest or the best food in town, but it does it's job at a time when every restaurant in the area is closed but you want xlb. The food is no frills, inexpensive, and decent with basic flavoring. They also have surprisingly a lot of variety, though I suspect the flavoring and seasoning for many of the dishes are similar. It's good, cash only, and what you expect. At 1am, it's actually better than you deserve. I'll come back, because I know they're open that late. Would I go during the day time? This restaurant, he is about to check out is 4 blocks away from his hotel. The name Good Shine sounds like a place that shine your shoes, and with that name, it sounds too unappealing. Eventhough this restaurant was dirty and filithy, the price is competitively reasonable. They have a ton of lunch special for under $5.00. The lunch special ends at 2pm. Down n' dirty! Good to go on cold winter days since the food is SO Greasy the oil/lard will moisturize your lips and keep them from chapping. Yes, this place has tenure in Monterey Park - it has been around for over 20 years. The prices are cheap and they open really late. For those reasons alone I will give them that one extra star. Shady activities occur during the wee hours in the parking lot as there is an influx of night owls doing their laundry at the 24 hour laundromat next door. I understand this is probably 'real' authentic Chinese food the way the cook uses generous amounts of oil - but this guy is cooking in the 1980's. People are a little self conscious about their health and well being these days. The restaurant name "Good Shine" is pretty fun. It reflects the Mandarin pronunciation of the Chinese name that means "hometown". As Taiwanese as it gets because their operation hours coincide with Taiwan hours. What restaurant business opens at 5 PM til 4 AM daily? haha. So this place is the perfect post-clubbing after a night of drinking location alternative to Denny's. Beware as if you are here around 2 AM to 3 AM on Friday or Saturday night, it can very likely be packed. The 5 star rating given is purely on one dish only. The minced meat rice or "Ru Rou Fan"! The taste and flavor of the Ru Rou Fan is comparable if not better than most places found in Taiwan. Unlike most places that offer Ru Rou Fan, their minced meat is a bit more fatty, more flavorful and has bits of dried mushrooms. Its as simple as it gets but its as good and tasty as other more fanciful dishes. I've been coming here for many years now and I believe the owner/chef has changed so other menu items are not as great but still better than most Taiwanese food places. Its not the most pretty or clean looking food joint, but it has a nostalgic Taiwan feel like a street vendor night market food place. There is enough seating for about 20 people at most. Yes part of the English menu does not make much sense but there are some pictures for it plus the owner is so nice and friendly. First of all, let me just say how much I love that this place is open till 3am. While I have never made use of this late-night option, I can just imagine inhaling a plate of oyster pancake and seeing god. Anywho, when we went, between me and my friend, we ordered six (SIX!!!!!) plates. As the food came, and the portions were bigger than expected, we were like..."uh oh...we may have made a horrible mistake". But NOPE, ate it all. I love the unappetizing-sounding, but really actually super tasty pork intestine noodles. Certainly one of the Taiwanese dishes that I have been missing in my life. The waitress recommended to us the stir fried pork stomach, which turned out to be REALLY good. The stinky tofu was a little lacking in the stink department, but great nevertheless.
