This is a casual spot that is open late. Portions are pretty large. Friendly service. -Beef Noodle Soup: Tasted fine. Large portions. -Pork Belly Rice: This was my favorite thing here. Pork belly has decent flavor. -Pan-fried shrimp/pork dumplings: Tasted decent.

A real "hole in the wall" restaurant, I had saved Good Shine Kitchen to try with my mom since I noted it has Taiwanese dishes including fried stinky tofu (fermented tofu) that my hubby won't eat ='(...lol! Came for lunch over the weekend and I think my mom and I both enjoyed our meal. They also sell their own pre-made fresh frozen dumplings as well & make everyone's order as they go...so service was a little bit slow. Mom & I tried: -Stinky Tofu, their sauce is just soy sauce, could use some garlic and chili sauce...but we got some on the side and added it to our own taste. I liked this. Definitely stinks up the space when they're making it, but IYKYK and it's worth the smell, lol. -Pig Ear appetizer, this was good as well. Lots of green onion and cilantro and flavor was perfect. No adjustments needed. -Pork & Leek Dumplings, the filling flavor is already great so you can eat it on its own. We also did make our own dipping sauce though out of personal preference. -Beef Noodle Soup, this was good as well but took the longest to come out so we'd already gotten pretty full off the other dishes. We took out the noodles in a separate bowl so that they wouldn't suck the soup dry... They do prefer cash payment & charge an extra fee for credit cards. Parking lot is small and shared with the laundromat and tofu shop next door. Will be back to try more dishes!

Was looking for a local spot that was still open fairly late and more decent then your fast food joints. The owner lady was very friendly and welcoming. This is definitely a whole in the wall, mama papa spot. Very small and good for a late night meal. Each dish is around 15-20 bucks so if you're eating quit a bit, it can get pricy. We had buck choi, shrimp fried rice, dumplings, orange chicken and chicken chow mein. Everything was pretty good. No complaints. I would come back if I was looking for something that was fairly decent at those hours of the night, and more on the home made side.

A restaurant I have passed by countless times on my way to the library or the park but never stopped in till now. After practice, a teammate mentioned stinky tofu, and I'm pretty sure I started drooling. Our group of 7 went for the evening around 8pm where there was plenty of seats. That said, parking spots were limited within the plaza with the majority of people heading to the laundromat next door, so I parked on the streets. I shared a plate of stinky tofu with two others, and for myself ordered a plate of pork and napa cabbage 猪肉白菜水饺 pan-fried dumplings. Others in the tables ordered wonton soup, steamed dumplings, and braised pork rice, with the majority also getting pan-fried dumplings with other fillings. Wait was slightly long, though to be fair it was a huge order. The stinky tofu and veggies were pungent and passed the smell test. I long for street food back East. The dumplings were delicious, bursting with piping hot juices from the filling. Many folks on here miss the previous owners of the restaurant, but I'd say the current ones are doing a good job. One of our guys decided to order a bag of frozen dumplings to-go, so during some downtime the chef and waitstaff came out and talked at length in describing the proper cooking method to ensure a cooked interior and a crispy base. As a side note, there's an article written of the restaurant back in 1985 framed and hung on the wall with a writeup of the menu back then. Here's to its continued business in MPK.

New family took over since March 2025. Featuring same menu plus a few more, they hand made their own dumplings and XLB. We had the Taiwanese dishes, they were pretty decent. Stinky tofu was slightly stinky, oyster omelet was tasty with many oysters. The beef rolls were delicious. Our favorite was the cold smashed cucumbers, nice and cool on a hot day. Overall service was ok, the lady was friendly and helpful but not super prompt. It was a bit warm, we asked a few times, they finally figured out they were not using the right setting.

Every time I drove by this place hours past midnight, I would see one of the owners working in the restaurant (most likely prepping food!). Admired by his dedication, I was encouraged to try out this place. We ordered Beef Noodle Soup, Pan-Fried Shrimp w/ Pork Dumplings, and Pork Kong-Bah Rice. The Beef Noodle Soup was standard but good! The soup had a wonderful flavor, and the beef was very tender. The Pan-Fried Shrimp w/ Pork Dumplings were delicious. It had a good skin to filling ratio, and it was fried quite nicely. They were also juicy and had soup inside. The Pork Kong-Bah Rice was good and I enjoyed it. The pork belly was perfectly marinated, and the fatty parts of the pork were delicious. It was also topped with pickled daikon radish which added a nice sweet tartness to the dish. Overall, the food here is pretty tasty and tastes homemade. Everything is also affordably priced. The workers are mainly the owners, who I believe are husband and wife. It is nice visiting and trying these small mom and pop shops. I can see myself returning here someday!

Pork Rice: bland. Sour cabbage served icy cold!

This Taiwanese food staple was already being replaced w/ peep who does not know how to cook Taiwanese fast food, such as minced pork rice, stew pork rice. My pork rice came w/ white rice in meat sauce (simply only the soy sauce), sour cabbage (it's served icy cold)and stew egg. The egg was only boiled soaking in soy sauce, no any flavors as it's supposed to be braised in 5-spices. It's nasty! The cook/owner should hv at least learn from the original owner how to make original Taiwanese food flavors... it's the soul skill. Pan fried pork dumpling is also disappointed. This won't last if u keep doing the same thing.

Food was not authentic. Yes, it was cheap and the owners are nice people but overall sketchy (can only pay cash or zelle) and the food was pretty bland.

Appears to be Chinese cooks, not Taiwanese. Pork shrimp cabbage dumplings were the best of the dishes we got - tasted super freshly made, maybe among the freshest I've had. If they weren't so fresh, they'd probably just be ok. A choy was also perfectly cooked and not salty or oily. Beef roll had decent flavor but bread was a little chewy. Oyster pancake was disappointing - egg was overcooked and sauce was slightly acidic and tasted more like ketchup than oyster pancake sauce. Service wasn't super attentive but it was fine, restaurant seemed clean. Overall, ok but stick with Chinese food, not Taiwanese.

I lived in Monterey Park for 10 years until 2016 but surprisingly I didn't know about this place. My parents also don't know this place either as we drove by there many times. It's located in the little strip mall next to VP Tofu on Garfield Ave (cross street Newmark Ave). It's a hidden Taiwanese cuisine. (The name sounds like Chinese cuisine though) My mom and I ordered XLB (Xiao Long Bao /steamed pork dumplings) and a stir-fry noodle dish. We were a bit disappointed of the taste and quality. The stir-fry noodle dish was small portion and it only had some tiny shredded meat. The noodles were a bit salty and oily. However, we like the XLB, the skin was thin enough and it was flavorful. The pork meat was juicy inside. I want to support them because they are like mom and pop restaurant and they have been in business for so long. The taste was like home cooked meal, food was cheap but the quality varies depends on what you order. I think that many people like it because it's like comfort food for them. Btw, they accept cash only!

Insanely good. As a Taiwanese American, everything was so delicious and authentic. Total hidden gem. Had all the classics that you could hope for, including absolutely phenomenal stinky tofu, perfectly crispy pork intestine, Taiwanese sausage, oysters, pork rice, and chao mi fun. Prices are great, and this spot is a regular visit for us.

Little hole in the wall with some of the most tasty food you'll ever had. Everything I've tried here is delicious. The shrimp were perfectly breaded, seasoned and crispy. The noodles are full of flavor and packed with meat and veggies. The roasted eggs are great. Not sure what the flavor is, but the sauce they're in is so good. The place is small maybe like 6 tables, but it's comfortable and the food is authentic and gives you home cooked meal feels. The service is great, the woman who works there is always so nice and welcoming.

Beef roll looked more like a giant taco but was also excellent. In the most convoluted sequence of restaurant occupancy in the annals of Chinese restaurants in the United States, Noodle King has supplanted Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch in Alhambra in the space formerly occupied by a different restaurant named Noodle King in the 1980s and 1990s. There's a lot to explain here. I used the compound name for the previous occupant because the name on the front entrance was Rice Hero, the back entrance said Hero's Kitchen and the digital menus said In Joy Lunch. I say the old restaurant was supplanted, not replaced, because the old restaurant sort of still hangs around, with a tiny sheet of paper with all 3 old names taped to the front door, and many old dishes still on the menu. Why the three names I don't know. In Joy Lunch had been a popup that operated during lunch hour serving Dongbei food in a space in YYDS Fried Strings in Rosemead. In Joy Lunch then struck out on their own last year with this space in Alhambra, adding the new names. The old Noodle King had been a Taiwanese noodle fixture before moving out in 2003. Since the new Noodle King also serves some of the Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch items, the same name seems to be just a coincidence. But despite holdover menu items the staff clearly say they're a new restaurant, with the Noodle King himself greeting you at the front entrance and the signage in both front and back now say Noodle King.

Everything came out piping hot and packaged well for takeout. We only waited about 15min, which was not bad at all. We really liked the siu mai and chow fun. Both were savory and addicting. Siu mai were especially juicy and meaty; they definitely satisfied our dim sum cravings. Soup dumplings were ok - I found the wrapper to be doughy and the filling kinda plain. The black sesame roll had an interesting rolled look and a sticky, chewy, jelly-like texture. It tasted like lightly sweetened black sesame paste mixed into what seemed like a combination of mochi and agar. The small parking lot in the back is free. We got lucky finding a spot in the late morning, but when we were ready to back out after getting our food, cars were either circling the lot or waiting for someone to leave.

Highly recommend this place for their pan-dried and soup noodles. I would come back for more pan-fried noodles and try their pan-fried dumplings. Btw, cash, Zelle, or Venmo payment ONLY for bill total under $50. Bring cash if you don't plan to eat lots.

I have been coming here for years. I like the beef roll here. It doesn't disappoint…read more The beef and tendon noodle soup is sometimes a hit and miss. This time it was very good. I have had ones in previous visits that the beef was chewy, not tender. You have a choice of regular noodles or hand torn noodles. Hand torn noodles are more filling since the noodles are much thicker than the regular noodles. They are both good. It is a matter of preference. The minced pork with noodles (aka Jia Jiang mien) is also good. For this visit, I did not order dumplings. But their dumplings are usually good. The service is adequate but don't expect good service.
