My husband had the New York and was undercooked for him and not the best flavor. He still ate most of it because you never send a steak back. Not sure we will be back. Overall this is a decent place in Omaha. I had low expectations after hearing one of my coworkers talk about having bad experiences here but I am glad we gave it a try. The service here was kinda slow but that seems to be an Omaha wide trend right now due to the lack of waitstaff. I really hope they are able to get more help soon! For my meal I ordered the ribeye with a caesar salad and gravy mashed potatoes. My steak was cooked decently and was quiet good for the price. The sides were also good so no complaints there. Our table did have a big issue when one of the other members also ordered the ribeye but was brought out the end piece of meat. When he asked about it the waitress said she already asked the cook because even she noticed it was smaller than the others. If your own staff is questioning the dish you should definitely not be serving it to the customers. We had to keep complaining and ask to have the manager come out who explained that it was the end piece and agreed to bring him another ribeye. Honestly that piece of meat should only be used for making burgers or something else since it is a lower quality of meat. Hopefully they change that so other customers aren't disappointed. read more

Location--10 min drive from downtown. $25 Lyft ride there and $10 Lyft ride back (dynamic pricing) Food--we got Warren's fave, the T-bone (medium and medium rare). Food came with a house salad and baked potato and green beans. To be honest, the steak was just ok. $44 for the entree. I had expected more flavor. My steak was a little more on the medium side for a medium rare and my friend's was like a medium. We were definitely full afterwards, but was as satisfied from a flavor standpoint. Back in the olden days, when the joint was jumping and there weren't many high-end restaurants in Omaha, this mainstay might very well have lived up to the slogan on its outdoor marquee: the finest steaks in the world. These days? They're overpriced, oftentimes lower-end cuts that pale in comparison to what you can get at other steakhouses -- in Omaha or elsewhere. (Don't let the tacky Buffett mania fool you.) Decided to check out Warren Buffett's favorite steakhouse in his hometown and it was worth the adventure! Steaks were fantastic all around! Two of us had 8 oz Filet Mignons and one guy had the prime rib. Service was fantastic with our waitress coming over often to check if everything was OK. Had to make the visit to Gorat's Steak House last month during our weekend in Omaha for the Berkshire Hathaway's (BH) conference. Reservations were tight, but I was able to secure a table for two for Friday (night before conference) at 9 PM a few days before. We were seated immediately (despite the heavy crowds) and off we go with trying out Warren Buffet's favorite steakhouse. The menu was consistent with other steakhouses, but it did offer some commentary around Buffet's favorites including the 22 oz Omaha T-Bone (Gorat's and Mr. Buffet's all-time favorite succulent bone-in steak). This was what I ordered. - 22 oz Omaha T-Bone (4/5) This was a great dish and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The steak was tender, cooked at the right temperature, and fairly filling. For $45, this was the best in terms of price / oz. It came with a potato and vegetables on the sides, which were fairly good. I am not a steak expert, so I am giving it a 4/5 and will update when I try other restaurants to establish a benchmark. Not sure about Gorat's vibe during non-Berkshire weekends, but it was great during our visit. The setting was a Midwestern, authentic, family-oriented ambiance. This made the visit that much more special. Overall, we will probably include Gorat's as part of our yearly tradition when venturing out to Omaha for the BH conference. read more

Avoid this place at all cost !! Unless you're a local.. As an owner of 3 restaurants I'm embarrassed for this place!! We had a party of 10, walked in around 6 to have the hostess try to turn us away and told us nothing will be open till around 8 hoping we would just leave when the restaurant was pretty much empty. But think they decided a 1000+ table might be worth taking so they sat us in the back area by the bar . sat down ordered everything was fine so far except they gave us two different menus so that made ordering more difficult than it should, whatever is fine no biggie. After ordering we proceeded to wait almost 2 hrs for our food while watching other party's that arrived later than us getting their food before us . FINALLY !! our food arrived only to have the waiter tell us they ran out of steak knifes and the we have to use a butter knife to cut our steaks (we had 9 steaks) What?!?!!?! HOW DOES THIS EVEN HAPPEN AT A WELL ESTABLISHED STEAKHOUSE!!!! We were pretty mad at this point!! then a couple minutes later we see another table that arrived later than us getting steak knifes for their meals before we did ‍‍ we came to Omaha for a 12u baseball tournament and also to watch the CWS thanks to this restaurants our kids gets to see what REAL discrimination is like for the first time .shame on you guys!! read more

Don't want to give it a downgrade, but I must for my fellow yelp peoples to know. Cannot lead you all astray. Basically if you go on a weekday night it may be ok ( i think like the previous post i did) and if you only order steak (like we did before). Just do not go on a Saturday night and do not order anything but steak (which we recently did) Wayyyy understaffed and too busy for the staff to handle. Prime rib sandwich is borderline inedible, I asked for my ahi tuna cooked to a medium and took ages to get it sent back to do so as it came out rare (maybe rightfully so as most places would never cook it through for me as it is known to be a sin to do so-haha). The shrimp Pasta tastes mediocre like something you could find in a hospital cafeteria. The manager (I think) did quickly ask as he was rushing by how things were but we spent so much time there waiting we just wanted to leave so i can only hope he will be able to see this instead. Everyone just looked so busy I just felt so bad to speak up as to inconvenience everyone especially since our server wasn't a ray of sunshine either. Came for our wedding anniversary on the advice of a friend. The service was good. Rita was friendly and attentive, if a bit overworked. The place wasn't packed, but she was busy. Wife had an Old Fashioned that was EXCELLENT - she had two, in fact. The Deviled Eggs were great, as was the ginormous Wedge Salad we split . . . but the steaks . . . I had the T-Bone and the wife had the Ribeye. The steaks (cooked medium) were flavorful, but the quality of the meat seemed like grocery store grade (Select, not Choice and certainly not Prime). Chewy, with lots of gristle and connective tissue. For the price ($200 pre-tip, including drinks and dessert for 2) there are much better quality steaks. I've checked an item off of the bucket list, but not sure if I'd return to give them another shot. read more

One of Omaha's last original steakhouses, Gorat's is a place that you have to eat at. The exterior of the building is pure Mid Century Modern, it looks like a place that Sammy and Dean would be driving up in a '61 T-Bird. Once inside, the decor has changed and onr thing that I dislike is change, but the improvements match the exterior and once I got used to it, I like it. The food was extraordinary, but it's hard to find a bad steak in Omaha unless you go to those chains that serve up that garbage. The filet was killer, as were the sides. I don't come to this part of Omaha often, so I had no idea this place existed! The restaurant is very beautiful, and there was live music on the Saturday night we visited. We came here for dinner after a rehearsal. Most of our party ordered either the 8oz fillet or the chicken fried steak. I'm more quantify than I am quality (although obviously I love both) so I went with the chicken fried steak! It was delicious, and I was so stuffed by the end of it. The mash potatoes were good as well! It came with three pieces of asparagus, and I felt like the asparagus wasn't ripe but that was okay because it was such a small piece of the meal. We have gone to Gorats before but it had been a long time and we wanted to listen to the music in the lounge before heading into dinner. The restaurant is dark like in bygone days and that's what we expected and find cozy. However, it was in need of some TLC. The staff was welcoming and extremely friendly. The only bartender was managing all the drinks for the bar and restaurant and doing a stupendous job. We both ordered the whiskey ribeye, mine was the smaller portion. Broccoli was the vegetable and it had no flavor and a little more al dente than typical. The potato was perfect. But the steak, that we came for, was a huge disappointment. It had a nice sweet whiskey glaze and it cut as though it was tender. The bigger steak was actually thinner than my small steak so it made me wonder if it was bigger at all. It was so full of grissle that my husband left a great deal of it on the plate that couldn't be chewed. What I ate of mine was a bit chewy but not bad. We took home the remainder and the next night I found the portion I didn't eat of mine was the part that had gristle. We have had better steaks at Outback so this was surprising for a restaurant that considers itself a steakhouse. It didn't seem as though the grade of meat was choice. Our server was attentive but there was nothing impressive about the presentation our quality of our meals. Maybe request for takeout boxes wasn't due to portion size but the need to reheat their food. I've been going to some of the more classic places in Omaha as of late, and had dinner at Gorat's with a group of friends last week and thought I should do a review. Overall we had a really good experience at Gorat's, the service was great, the food was good, and I think everyone in our party shared the same opinion. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant definitely got a facelift since I was last here, I like the new modern vibe. I ordered the veal parmesan and I will say it was pretty damn good, very well seasoned and cooked just like I like it, with a perfect amount of cheese and sauce. It came with a veggie and a side of penne pasta that was just OK. My wife had a 10 oz sirloin with bleu cheese added on top, she really liked it, and said the flavor was nice and that it was cooked just as ordered to medium rare. It came with a side salad that was decent and roasted carrots which were also decent. I did order a piece of carrot cake to go and it wasn't bad, the frosting was outstanding I should add. Also shout out to our waitress, we had a larger party and she killed it with good service. The pricing is inbetween a higher end place like 801 and a chain place like Outback, the portions are good, so no complaints there. Definitely worth a stop. read more

This place is top notch. It still has an old school vibe despite a remodel. The bar was hoppin at 6pm on a Friday with live jazz. We were the youngest patrons by a couple decades. There was no place to sit and so we took a table in the dining room. Warren Buffet permeates everything here. Our waitress was efficient and businesslike. The scallops and shrimp appetizer was retro-decadent. I loved my wedge salad (a $1 upgrade charge as a house salad is included with the steak). My 6 ounce filet was great. I'll skip the mushroom sauce next time. Not the best steak in town but still great. Good value for a nice (not fussy or fancy) night out. read more

I wish I had a positive review, but our experience was very umplesant since the moment we walked in. We were walk-in customers. We were seated in the back area by the bar. We were told our group was too large. However, the restaurant was not full or busy. Our waiter took our drink and food orders immediately. We waited about 1.5 hrs for our food. (Group of 10, 6 adults 4 kids). Groups next to us that arrived 30 minutes after us were already eating way before us. When our food was brought. We were given 3 steak knives for the 9 steaks that were ordered. The excuse given to us was that they ran out of steak knives!!! At a steak house!!! Embarrassing! We were told to use the butter knives or share the 3 steak knives provided! By the time we were given steak knives, we were done eating! I enjoyed my meal for the most part, though the presentation left something to be desired. The "cornbread casserole" was actually delicious and probably the best thing of the evening. Service was very friendly, but food took a bit of time despite the restaurant being pretty empty (we dined on a Wednesday night around 7). We were visiting Omaha on vacation in our attempt to see all 50 states. Since we were going to be here over Mother's Day, we made lunch reservations at Gorat's. I was so excited for a famous Gorat steak. However when we arrived we found it was actually a (lovely) buffet for the holiday, not the traditional menu. Well, let's just say that the manager that day was the most INCREDIBLE, kindest, most thoughtful manager of a restaurant I've ever met. She went way out of her way to make sure I had the full Gorat experience. Our server was also equally wonderful. I don't know if we will ever get a chance to come to Omaha again, but if we do, Gorat's will be our first stop. Also, the lasagna they had on the buffet was soooooo good. A genuinely pleasant place for dinner. The service was very attentive without being over bearing. The food (we had their 12 oz prime rib with stuffed baked potato) was excellent. The prime rib was served medium rare with au jus and either horseradish or horseradish cream. Our fried calamari appetizer was very light and served with a very tasty marinara sauce. I went to the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders meeting and took that opportunity to dine at this place. I have to say that although the service (Misty) was outstanding, the food was sub mediocre. We started with the onion rings which were soggy and the pieces were stuck together. The wine list is short but the wines are quite good and inexpensive. For the main course we got the so-called "house favorite" T-bone and the whiskey glazed ribeye. First of all a good steak just needs salt and pepper. These steaks were so unseasoned, i believe they didn't have any salt or pepper at all. Bland as eating a raw potato. More importantly, the quality of the streaks was very low. The filet part of the t-bone was edible but the other cuts were tough and chewy. We left most of it on the plate. Note to owners: when most patrons are asking for steak sauce, there's something wrong with your steaks. Don't waste your time and money on this place. As Warren Buffett would say, you'd be paying a high price for a very very low dining experience. Very poor investment. read more

Went here for my anniversary dinner with the better half and kids. A co-worker mentioned it's not as good as it was in the past, but I personally had a pleasant experience. I had a medium rare whiskey ribeye, which I think was worth what I paid for. The only complaint that I would have was that it a sizable chunk of fat/grids that I ended up not eating (approx 1"x3"). My wife had a 22 oz steak that she shared with three of our little ones. My kids are picky eaters, but they had no problem chowing down on that monster. Gorat's is known for its steaks and for my husband's birthday we decided to order a big meal of delicious steaks and treat ourselves to food we love. Unfortunately, Gorat's was either having a really bad night or they have not perfected the art of takeaway food. We ordered two appetizers of shrimp and scallops in melted havarti cheese. It sounds delicious, but what came was rubbery cheese with unappetizing crisp edges with 3 small shrimp and 3 PIECES of one big scallop. You do not get 3 scallops, you get 3 pieces of 1 scallop. It was put in a piece of aluminum foil and was either left under the warming lamp too long or was just left too long in the oven. Did I mention the dish was $12.00? So we spent $24.00 on food we had to mostly throw away. We picked out the shrimp and scallop pieces, but they were also both overcooked and rubbery as well, very disappointing. We also ordered the bruschetta which was tasty, but I added a bit of olive oil to improve its texture and flavor. The steaks and salad were a bit better, which is why this review is getting 2 stars instead of 1. My husband likes his steak well done (I know that chefs cringe at this) and I like mine medium to medium rare. We'd asked that they not be heavily seasoned and they weren't. Overall I think it would have been hard to make these steaks unpalatable as the cuts of meat were excellent. Both of our baked potatoes needed to be put in the microwave to finish cooking as they were a little hard in the center. They did give us a lot of butter on the plus side! I didn't eat my salad but it looked beautiful with freshly cut vegetables. Overall we spent $100 for the food and left a $20 tip which I think is appropriate for takeout in the days of COVID 19. I realize that making takeout look appetizing is not easy with plastic and paper replacing china. However, the food should still taste delicious and be cooked appropriately, no matter what it's served on. Gorat's dropped the ball on this meal that was intended to be a birthday celebration. Hands down... No question the best tasting steak I have EVER had. I have been to The Drover, Ruth's Chris, Flemming's, etc and this is leaps and bounds above them. The whiskey ribeye is what I got. It is a 12 oz steak that is glazed in a Jim Beam reduction. It gives the steak a sweet sugarlike flavor to it. Almost like eating a treat instead of dinner. Pair this with great sides and exceptional service, this place if the full package. 100/100 would come here again and hope I get to. read more
