Considering the location, there are a lot of better options nearby. The serving sizes are small and the food is not fresh. The ramen noodles are instant and the wasabi is horse radish. The lunch special is one bowl of ramen and 8 pieces of sushi for 2 people for $30. They also have a $20 minimum for credit cards so we couldn't split the bill. The service has good but slow. I DO NOT condone underage drinking, but I feel like I have to out this place for not checking the IDs of obviously underage customers. EMPLOYEES, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? The DRUNK KIDS that YOU gave alcohol to were screaming and chanting as they were ILLEGALLY DRINKING in the restaurant. One even stood on top of the next table and started stomping around, but not a single employee told them to stop, neither did they wipe the table clean after some person's dirty shoes were all over the table and utensils! This was an EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE dining experience, and it made me just want to walk out of the restaurant. WAKE UP! That said, the service is extremely slow. It took around 30 minutes to receive two sushi rolls and a bowl of udon noodle soup. The sushi was bland and might as well have been out of the fridge of a supermarket, and the udon noodle soup was too salty for me to enjoy the broth. That was the awful dining experience I had ever!! I ordered seafood hot pot for dinner. When I ate the crab, I discovered that crab tasted strange, like not fresh. And the staff can't speak or understand English very well. I told her, you can try to check that's fresh or not. Then she took my rest of crabs away...AND nothing back. She replied me rudely, "you said you don't won't to eat that". Yes!!!!! I said that because I don't want to get a sick but that doesn't mean you can took the rest of crabs away. Pretty happy that I tried this place as a result of a Groupon deal. My bf and I were stuffed after our udons, rolls and pancake dish. The venue is very cute - I'd say it's a great choice for a date. I also appreciate the service here. Most of the time, waiters treat you like a leper when you come with a deal but not at Haru Hana! All of the servers were friendly and answered all questions making the experience wonderful. My favorite dish was the udon and I noticed even without the deal, it was very reasonably priced. Good, Went here for the first time though this place is not the easiest to spot from afar, but when you do spot it and look inside it looks nice and un-usual. When you first walk in there is a little area where there is a few tables on your left and people are eating. You walk a bit further you get greeted by a host that is more than willing to sit you down. You get seated on a bench which does not have much space but for you and your guest, if you have a coat or any other large baggage you cannot place it anywhere. This can be good and bad depending on the person. The decor of the place is nice, looks clean and light on the eye. There is no ONE place that eye goes to because it is c lean or dirty. The floor has a path made out of leafs, which is nice something new and refreshing. The trees and the dark-ish ceiling set a nice cozy/comfortable feel. After you pick out the food you want the waiter is more than glad to take your order, but the down side is the size of the table. With four people you order an appetizer, to share. Four main courses, plus you get all these sauce type things on a side. The apps came first, and then with in 2 min came the main course, the table can only hold so many plates at a time before you start to pick it up and play jinga with it... The food was good; the pancake was fresh and not heavy. The katsu was good they use panko to cook it so you know it is light, plus the meat inside is light and fluffy and not dry at all. Most other places you go to that is usually the case. Though you might get a lot of food and eat you don't feel stuffed like a turkey, but you just feel full like you had a good meal. Went in with coworkers, with great excitement and looked at the menu, all seated and then ended up waiting for a while now and no one had attended us, now as natural as anyone waiting would do, called the lady server saying "we're ready", she legit ends up making a really nasty face and said hold up/wait. Ummm OK, that surprised me but I let it go :) so now I place the order of chicken katsu with rice lunch special and that turns out to be super raw (the meat) and not fully cooked, mind you it was fried, that means there was just something wrong with that meat. I politely asked the other server for an exchange because I clearly DID NOT want to end up getting sick eating that, (EWWW). So she makes a face again and takes it away and slams the menu on my table, OK again. Well I ended up ordering sushi (not so great). We were all done & I had asked for the bill, and that was IT, the way the lady server grinned at me and made a nasty face, almost ignored me, with that pathetic attitude, got me mad. I was like that's it, they are definitely not getting any tip(which is a very rare occurence, as I tip generously when I am treated nicely) or a good yelp review because I'm a big YELPER. So a small advice to the management of HANA MICHI, PLEASE TEACH YOUR SERVER LADIES TO BE NICE AND POLITE. ITS NOT HARD HAVING A SMILE ON THERE FACE OR BEING PATIENT BECAUSE THATS THERE JOB AND THATS WHAT THERE BEING PAID FOR. WE customers don't only come in for great food, we also PAY for good service. I would only come here for the lunch combo, otherwise it's too pricey for the dishes. I've tried the fish katsu, vegetable ramen and yakisoba all of which were very mediocre in taste. I ordered the mozzarella katsu, which was amazing and cheesy, and came with salad, dressing, rice, and a bit of curry. However that's basically where the goodness stopped... the service was terrible and we had to remind them 3 times to get something. The Thai iced tea tasted like water, literally the worst one I've ever had. When our party of 6 (4 ordered Thai tea) brought this to the attention of staff, they did nothing. Went here with my girl on Groupon deal. We were able to get a table with only a five minute wait on Thursday night, but it seemed like more folks were lining up when we left around 9. The deal was pretty generous - two special rolls, mini udon soup, salmon salad, and an okonomiyaki (seafood pancake). The salad was your standard iceberg lettuce with some nice cuts of salmon on top. Both rolls were fresh and tasty and the udon soups were well done. The okonomiyaki was delicious, with a light crust on bottom and delicious sweet sauce on top. The wait staff was very attentive and made sure we had a good dining experience, at times replating our dishes to make room for new hot dishes coming out. Love this place!!! They offer excellent food, service and a great interior decor & atmosphere. -Tuna tataki salad: Melt in your mouth.. so good. Salad was super fresh. -Beef katsu: Generous portion and very tasty. Soft & crispy -California roll: Delicious roll with an upscale presentation. The rolls were quite possibly the best I've ever had in Manhattan. The server was very nice and knowledgeable about all the dishes. She explained great and recommended a very good Japanese beer. Our party of 4 decided to have dinner at Haru Hana by default of every other restaurant we wanted to go to in K-town being packed! One member of our party had been to Haru Hana before and proclaimed it "O-kay".. and that's exactly what I'd say if someone asked me how it was. Haru Hana is a Korean-owned Japanese restaurant featuring an assortment of traditional Japanese comfort foods-- katsu, udon, ramen and sushi. We had to wait 10 min for a table, pretty darn good for a Sat night! The restaurant is clean and well-maintained.. I even felt comfortable putting my bag on the floor-- something I RARELY do! The seating arrangements in the booths are a bit tight though and might be uncomfortable if you are an above average-sized adult.. To start, we checked in on Yelp and got a bonus tofu salad. The bonus tofu salad is basically a 1-inch cube of chilled tofu with a paper-thin slice of fresh salmon on top and a drizzle of their house special dressing. Free is always good but this felt a bit lame! Esp compared to the awesome foursquare check-in bonus that we got from Balaboosta earlier that day.. We also got an order of agedashi tofu appetizer. I love agedashi tofu and always get it when we have Japanese food. It's a simple dish of silken firm tofu coated w/ potato starch and deep-fried. It's served with a hot broth made of dashi, mirin and Japanese soy sauce and topped with dried bonito flakes. Haru Hana's version was decent but the potato starch coating was a little thick and didn't adhere well to the tofu. The flavor of the dashi broth was okay. Since Haru Hana is known for their katsu, BF and I each ordered their pork loin katsu served with a sweet Tonkatsu dipping sauce, miso soup and white rice. It also came with a small portion of curry sauce. I wanted to order something different to try but BF adamantly refused to share.. BOO! Katsu is typically a panko-breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet that is sliced and served with a sweet & spicy dipping sauce. Haru Hana's pork loin katsu is a decent sized portion and the katsu was nicely breaded and not too oily. The pork itself was a bit lacking in flavor but it was tender and moist. If I had never tried the pork katsu at Katsuhana at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater, NJ, I might even have said Haru Hana's katsu was quite good but unfortunately, it falls short in comparison. Our friend ordered the chicken katsu and said it was dry. Another friend ordered a mini ramen and a salmon roll. The concept of a mini ramen reminded me of the mini don (or rice bowl dish) that you can typically add to your ramen/udon order so you never have to choose between rice or noodles! The salmon roll was a good-sized roll and the salmon looked fresh. She didn't comment so I'm assuming it was "O-kay".. Haru Hana is a decent choice for a meal but I wouldn't recommend it if there are other options available. read more

The food quality here is just appalling. Decor is cute (ie kind of but not really?). I was only here because it was 3am and curious to try someplace I hadn't been. Grilled Beef Garlic: was expecting some type of short rib turned out to be a few pieces of cold dry meat on a bed of lettuce with garlic pieces. Pork,Chicken Katsu: Dry & flavorless. Okonomiyaki: Mayo with a side of grated potato anyone? Tempura: Drab, lifeless veggies/shrimp with greasy coating of batter. There is NO justification for coming here considering there are many other 24 hour places on the block. If you want Japanese style food on 32nd Moku a few doors down is immensely better with friendlier service too. read more

Seems like a good idea - Japanese izakaya in k-town - but the place is overpriced and the food pale in comparison to other great restaurants on that street. There were four of us sitting at a TINY table and with no place to hang our coats, we had to squeeze uncomfortably. I love tofu so we ordered both the cold organic tofu and the tofu with kimchi. The organic tofu had a sauce on it that tasted weird. The tofu with kimchi is pretty good, but not awesome. There is a good selection of sake, but everything felt very pricey given the quality. Like all Korean restaurants the decor is nice, although everything is a bit on the small side. Which is cool, unless you're huge like me. The food was standard fare of Japanese food made by Koreans and Korean food made by...Koreans. Nothing special, nothing poor. I hate to write reviews of a single dish/experience to avoid any bias, but I can't help it with this place, so this review will primarily based on their PORK RAMEN!!!! I've tried so many ramen places, many of them are famous, but the BROTH here is like nowhere else! I've come a couple of times and have tried other dishes including their sushi, but only the ramen broth sticks in mind! Last time I went, maybe I was too hungry, I noticed that the noodles/veggies portions were smaller....The broth, though, is still delicious and rich...cant describe it, it's my standard for ramen broth now =P Service, decor, and everything else is good. Chic Standout in KTown. So to be fair the food is just good but the music and decor sort of ups the ante at Haru Hana. Decor is really cute and much trendier than other places on the street. Random date night- the man and i were starvation central. We decided on the tenderloin katsu, 'haru hana' udon, and tuna roll. All very delicious. The udon could've been better, maybe a little more flavor in the broth. It probably would've been very good had it been served to us immediately after it was prepared. For some reason, it took us about 30 min to get our food. Two tables that came in after us were served first. My boyfriend never, ever complains but we had to say something. The waitress brought us two pieces of a california roll as "service". Oh yea, I don't know what they drizzle on the rolls...some kinda white sauce (setting myself up). Came here with a girlfriend. Extensive menu however you'll still end up confused over what to get (somehow). Most of their dishes seem fried so if you're opting out of fried items, you're really left with rolls and/or ramen. The chicken katsu was good. They give you a bowl of curry on the side for your rice and the chicken is paired with melted cheese in the middle.. Overall extremely heavy and filling. I got the soba since I ended up not knowing what to get. So I guess you can say I settled... It was good. Nothing special. Good service though! read more

Although this place have a very good design of interior and decoration, HanaMichi is not considered to be an authentic Japanese restaurant. There, all wait staffs are not Japanese and all of them don't know how to speak Japanese Language. It seems that they are Korean!!! not Japanese!!! Therefore, it could be concluded itself as Korean-Japanese restaurant located in the heart of K-town. Food price is very expensive when compared with other REAL Japanese restaurants in Manhattan. For day-time staffs, they are okay and somewhat attentive. However, night-time staffs are totally worst. I was waiting for more than 10 minute for ordering my foods, because night-time waiters had their own smoke time one after another and so on and on and on... This place is just okay. I came here with a group of friends one night, extremely exhausted from walking all day and was looking for a good dinner in Ktown. Seeing that all the other locations were expensive BBQ places, and BCD which we've been to a million times-- we decided to come into Hana Michi due to the amount of Yelp reviews, despite the average rating. This only proves to me that I should always believe my fellow yelpers! We were seated right away and saw that they had a tofu salad, check in special. Drawing the inner Asian in me, I of course immediately checked in. However, the free check in special took longer to come than my entrée and did not taste good to me at all. In fact, I would've preferred just skipping the tofu salad, it also was not what I expected it to be. I had a stir fried seafood udon, which I remember being obsessed with at another restaurant so I got it here. It was mediocre, I wouldn't say it was something that I regret getting but at the same time my money could've been spent on something better. One of my friends ordered a pork noodle soup, it's basically a ramen soup. I remember quite liking the broth and the meat was nicely cooked but for some reason it seemed to lack flavor? This is a Japanese restaurant run by Koreans, which means you're getting delicious food through great service. Everyone wins! I would recommend getting the "large" sashimi platter here and splitting it with a friend. It's $24 for 24 pieces. That's $1 per piece if you have difficulty with math, as I do sometimes. I also got the shrimp hand roll (rice, shrimp, and mayo wrapped in seaweed) just in case the sashimi itself wasn't filling. It was about $5 and was decently sized. Get it! Surprisingly good! The tables are small (considering the large trays this restaurant seems to love to serve its food on) and the atmosphere is kitschy with lots of fake cherry blossom trees. However, the food was surprisingly good and the prices are great. Their katsu dishes are the way to go. The chicken, shrimp, pork and cheese (?) katsus were all really nicely done - crispy, not greasy and juicy and tender on the inside. The unagi don was tasty also (with a spoon of ikura to boot) and the cheese katsu nabe made a tasty and comforting meal for a cold day. I was pleasantly surprised by the seemingly home-made and very good katsu sauce they served along with the sesame seeds that you are suppose to grind on your own and mix with the sauce for katsu dipping later on. Overall, I'd definitely come back here again if I'm looking to have a quick and tasty, easy meal. read more

I went to this restaurant around 1:30pm on a Thursday. It wasn't that crowded at the time, maybe 2 or 3 other tables. The food took about 15 minutes to come out. The food was amazing. My friend and I came during the lunch special so we were able to save a lot of money which was great. The only "issue" was when we were splitting the bill we were told there was a $10 limit when paying with card. If we knew earlier, we wouldn't put the server through trouble of splitting the check. This is the first time I sat under a fake cherry blossom tree for dinner. Service was really good. My ramen (~$9) was appetizing after I asked for more scallions to make it more flavorful and piled it on with the pepper/chili on the table I also tried the katsu (~$13) which I felt was a bit too bready, and the curry it came with was kinda cold. We got a small dish of kimchi and pickle with our dish and good barley tea. The tuna tataki was good too, but expensive (~$8?) for just a few pieces of tuna. Honestly this restaurant is rly good for going with a few friends (4 ppl max) and eating snack dishes. Don't expect to be blown away by their food. Everything is about average except for their ramen. Absolutely disgusting. I took a slurp of the noodles and soup and pushed it away. It's so bland and it rly makes me wonder how ramen can taste this horrific. But their udon makes up for it. Not too shabby. Their tempura order is definitely a thumbs down but their okonomiyaki was better than I thought. You just rly have to come here without high expectations. After all, it is decent food for a 24/7 korean/jap pub. Obviously though, this place will be packed on weekend nights so service is a bit all over the place. My party of 3 ordered ramen, udon, 3 rolls, sashimi, okonomiyaki, tempura, salad, etc. We were starving. But all the servers would just drop off a plate and rush off and we're staring at it bc it's not ours and then he'd rush back and take it away and give it to the right table. Nothing was cordial and come on, the tables are small. You give us all our food at once and we rly had no space to eat. We were sitting at angles so as to not hit each other with our chopsticks. We probably would've had more space to eat if someone bothered to check on us and clear away all the empty plates. -Which btw, we did ask several times for someone to do.- But, apparently none of the servers were lowly enough to do such a menial thing... which is exactly how they looked when we asked. This place was only OK. My wife and I both had the Ramen because for whatever reason I thought the internet had recommended that to me. In fact, I think below, someone used the words "ramen" and "flavor" in the same sentence. Not sure what happened here. It tasted as if they brought out the noodles in the same tap water they used to boil them, and threw some egg and onions on top to trick me. Between the two of us, we emptied the soy sauce jar into our bowls just to add a bit of salt to the dish. This may quite literally have been the blandest meal I've eaten out in 15 years. We did open with the gyoza, which I would describe as "unnecessarily deep fried." If I ever found myself back here (I won't) I definitely would steer clear of both dishes. read more
