Number one it was crowded and number two they took cash only and there was no mention of that on Yelp. And I didn't have cash. My only complaint service was not perfect. They took our order pretty quickly we got our food pretty quickly but then we never saw them again. Good family stop with lots of choices. 4.25 Stars with room to grow. I got invited to come and enjoy the Garden Grove experience. The area is full of Vietnamese hot spots, you won't be able to chose should you come alone. Hoa Binh is a family run gem with a long history of mailing families smile. Who doesn't love Pho? There are so many Pho restaurants in Westminster! Truthfully I usually just go to the same ones I love. I haven't tried a new one in a while. We came here after a gym session. I tried #33, which includes all the different beef varieties, and asked for wide pho noodles (which is my preference). We also had an egg roll appetizer. I enjoyed my pho, but I'm pretty sure they use MSG. (I'm not a huge fan of msg.) It wasn't the best I've ever had. I'm also not sure I'd add this place to my go-to Pho restaurants. The egg roll wrapper they use is unique. It's not the usual wrapper I'm used to. Although it was crunchy, I didn't feel like I was eating a proper egg roll. If you don't feel like Pho, there are many other items on the menu. The restaurant has plenty of seating. The floors were pretty dirty, and I could visibly see food on the floors. My mom comes here all the time to buy their wontons to go. I think it's like 40-50 for about $13? I can't remember. Their wontons are pretty good and a fair decent price. I decided to eat here and try some of their foods. Service definitely lacks, but very typical for a Vietnamese restaurant. I was craving some noodles, but I wanted to try a new restaurant. I saw this restaurant many times but I never had a chance to try it. So this time, I was determined to go. I walked in there. It wasn't too busy at 2pm. I usually look around the room to see what everyone's is ordering but I didn't have that luxury. It seems as though my parent's generation and my grandparents generations suffered through different wars and different forces of oppression when all the people wish for is peace. Hoa Binh Restaurant is located off of Hazard and Brookhurst (facing Brookhurst) and I have passed by countless times, but it never occurred to me to come in until recently when my buddy Bobby P. suggested we come here for dinner. He was raving about their Com Ga Roti ($7.95) so I just went with his recommendation since I was feeling indecisive. Com Ga Roti is a Vietnamese Roasted Chicken and Rice dish that is traditionally served with a red tomato rice, half of a juicy tender bone-in, skin-on cornish hen and with a dipping sauce made from the juice of the chicken, garlic chili sauce and soy sauce. This restaurant also served a side salad with the meal to give the dish an element of freshness. I really liked the rice, but I found the chicken to be on the dry side and the sauce to be overly salty. My friend commented that I should pour more sauce on my chicken if I thought it was dry, but I feel like it should be juicy regardless of the sauce. Not to mention that sauce was really really salty, so it would further ruin the taste of the chicken. Pretty good Com Ga Roti, but I think there are better options in the Little Saigon area. This was probably more like a 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up. Service was straight forward and quick-- they got your order and they leave you alone. Pay at the front. It's been a year and a half since I've been here. With so many restaurants in lil Saigon it's a wonder that we've not been back. However, today, I met Carlos K for our weekly pho meal and this time was joined by Holly W. Hoa Binh is one of those lil Saigon restaurants which is surprisingly clean. The toilets have toilet seat covers for their patrons and they're not a cash-only establishment. The plate of condiments they bring out is clean, none of that wilted herbs and "blackened" bean sprouts which many places give you. I like this place! Hoa Binh has 50% on all pho, yes ALL beef pho items. They also have another item a day which is 50% off. Today it was the crispy noodles with beef. It looked really good. I mentioned it to Carlos but he was adamant about getting the pho, and since I can never finish a whole order on my own, I had the pho too so I could give CK half of my pho noodles. We also got the spring rolls to share -- I really liked these. They were crispy and were served with a huge plateful of lettuce, mint leaves, perilla leaves and another herb which I'm not familiar with. Holly and I both got pho tai while CK got the one with the tai and the brisket. The bowls arrive in ceramic bowls (definitely a plus!) and was piping hot. The pho wasn't bad at all! They had specials that were 40% off on a black board but good luck finding it because it's totally covered by a plant. By far one of my favorite Vietnamese places to eat it. Probably my second favorite pho place. I don't get to go as often anymore now that I live in Irvine, but when I do go, it's never a disappointment. The pho is fragrant and delicious. I always order the special combination with egg noodles. The broth is perfect, not oily at all. The meat is always tender and the vegetables are always fresh. One of my favorite dishes is the Vietnamese egg rolls. It's rolled with rice paper instead of wonton, which makes it super crispy and is actually the authentic way to do it. Most places make it with the wonton wrappers and it takes away the flavor of the stuffing inside. It comes with an abundance of vegetables to wrap the rolls in. I like to wrap it with mint and lettuce and dip with regular fish sauce. Their crispy fried noodles with beef is my boyfriends favorite dish there. The noodles are perfectly fried and not too oily. The beef is tender and the sauce is amazing. Another great dish is the udon. I haven't been able to find a place that makes udon the way my mom used to, but this place comes pretty damn close. Hoa Binh Restaurant is the place you want to go for all of your Vietnamese food cravings. The variety will make your head spin, but unlike at most Vietnamese restaurants, you have plenty of time to choose before a waiter comes by and politely asks you for what you want. We decided to order banh xeo, banh beo, and pho ga, choosing the the wings and drumstick as our protein. Surprisingly, it did take some time for our food to come out, especially the banh xeo and banh beo, while the pho was served fairly quickly. The banh beo, which are steamed rice pancakes, were served in individual mini plates and topped with dried shrimp, garlic, and tiny croutons. From the appearance, I could see a layer of oil on top which was unappetizing to say the least, but keeping an open mind, I added a small drizzle of fish sauce and discovered a well made rice pancake that didn't taste mushy. Unfortunately, the croutons soaked in a lot of that oil and the shrimp didn't have much flavor. The banh xeo, a Vietnamese crepe made with tumeric, was better with its crispy crepe layer and plentiful filling of bean sprouts, shrimp, and pork. The greens provided, like mint and lettuce, added brightness to the heavy crepe and texture as well. Portion-wise, the banh xeo looks huge, but it's actually quite a light dish. Our last dish was pho ga which had chicken plated on the side with a bowl of fish sauce and ginger. The chicken looked dry from appearance, but the meat was actually quite tender. I was disappointed to see that the bones were left in. The noodles in the pho were soft and the broth was light, even though it did lack seasoning. Prices at Hoa Binh are the lowest I've ever seen and they even have specials depending on the week. Overall, it was a decent restaurant that had good service and average food, with some tasting better than others. If you're in a bind and don't know which Vietnamese restaurant to choose from the HUNDREDS around the area, then Hoa Binh will work out just fine. read more

Yikes! I should have ordered the wonton noodle soup (that I never had here before) which I originally came for, but got side tracked and ordered a lemongrass chicken rice platter instead. Ok so the problem here is that it did not contain any lemongrass, instead heaping spoonfuls of sate oil on dark meat- I took one bite and im'a say no more. The nem cuon was peptobismol pink in color and the flavor was off. The saucey banh beo was thick,mushy, lacked flavor. Came here on a Monday night and it was so busy! They don't have a good system down at seating people so you just come in and basically seat yourself. They will walk up to provide menus which took some time because there was a big party ahead of us. We order three dishes, one order of Springs rolls for an appetizer, and three waters. All our dishes came out at completely different times which was a downside because we were all starving just staring at one another eating. The Springs rolls came out last! And they never came to refill our waters. This place is lacking in service unfortunately. If you aren't sure what you want this is the perfect place to go. I love the options within the menu itself. It's very friendly and easy to understand. Yum! I always come here for pho, and it always comes out really fast! The taste and quality of the pho is usually very consistent. I always get the bigger bowl, and the broth is delicious. To add to that, this is the only pho place I've found so far that gives me ground beef, not the brisket, but straight up boiled ground beef, similar to the beef you get in burgers. We had their bun thit nuong here and it was so delicious! Their eggrolls are really exceptional, it isn't your standard CABBAGE and carrot eggroll with a sprinkling of pork in it. Here they are packed with shrimp and crab and practically NO FILLER VEGGIES. The eggrolls were crispy and the meat inside so fragrant and yummy. The regular bun thit nuong was $9.75 and the large was $11.75. The ONLY difference that we could tell was that they gave us an additional eggroll for the larger size.... I was really craving good, clean, hu tieu/ noodle soup. With all the reviews I gave Hoa Binh a try and once again, the boyfriend got the better of the two dishes. Food: 1.) Pho special- it was 40% off today! The broth was hot and flavored decently. He enjoyed it while eating but 30 minutes after dinner, he was dying of thirst and complained of cotton mouth. Verdict? Too much MSG. 3 stars. Hu tieu w/thick noodles- this was an interesting bowl. On top of the more traditional Hu tieu toppings(shrimp, chicken slices), Hoa Binh adds fish cake slices, xa xiu(bbq marinaded pork slices), shrimp wontons, squid slices, and the broth had bits of salted dried radish. I was really excited to dig in, but this wasn't the clean broth I was hoping for. There was nothing special about the shrimp wontons, I didn't want to finish it but hate wasting food. Sometimes, less is more and sadly, that's the truth for this dish. Banh beo quang -4 stars, they pour the batter THICK here; we wanted to try their special thick sauce. It was good but honestly did not stand out, their banh beo was missing the crunch factor from the chicharron(fried pork skin). The nuoc mam(fish sauce) was the best part. Spicy, sour, slightly sweet, and thick. Made a world of a difference to an otherwise, just ok dish. Soda chanh- 5 stars, fresh lime soda, how can you go wrong? Tea-came in a cup, not teapot, jasmine, strong, and quite fragrant Best part of the meal? Pickled jalapeno, it was perfectly pickled, sour, with just a hint of sweetness, and still spicy! From the reviews, it looks like this place it either a hit or miss... Luckily for me, it was right on target... From the moment we walked in, we had great service and a great experience here... We were seated immediately, followed by the server giving us our menus.. We asked what the specials were and she very kindly went over the options... 40% pho or bbq pork with rice... thats awesome!! My Pho Dac Biet came out to be around $4.00 and it was a large... The broth was surprisingly very well flavored and I couldn't even finish the large portion... We also ordered the wonton noodles with seafood and that was delicious. And we got the bbq pork combo with the broken rice, fish cake & egg quiche and the portions are very generous.
