Everything was good. French toast was okay no complains 7/10 the eggs were a but runny for me personally so i had the cook them "hard". The sausage was average. The atmosphere was interesting the outside looks like a hole-in-the-wall vibe but the inside is nice gives a diner feel. Thank you! :) As we arrived almost an hour before closing, we did not have a wait, which was nice. We ordered fried green tomatoes to start off with, and those were AMAZING!! I highly recommend you get that! BF ordered country fried steak with cornbread and potato salad. (To his unpleasant surprise, they were out of his top 2 favorites, Mac & Cheese and mashed potatoes). The country fried steak was fried perfectly, not dried at all! The potato salad was tasty, as it was not too much mayo and red potato chunky (just how I like it). I ordered the comfy chicken biscuit and boy was it yummy! The chicken was juicy with a crunch (even with gravy atop), biscuits were thick, and the sausage gravy was delicious!! Home Grown can be crowded at times but for good reason. Classic diner and one of my favorite breakfast spots.

If "don't judge a book by its cover" was a restaurant... It looks like a grubby hole in the wall from outside...eh, inside is a little worse for wear also BUT the food is excellent. Huge menu with affordable prices. Counter area where you can be served as well as booths nearby and a dimly lit back room with tables. Picture an upscale truck stop with good food coming to the table in big portions. A family-friendly spot in a rapidly changing (i.e. gentrifying) neighborhood. I've been to this place many times and have had great experiences. I've always seemed to come at a great time where my wait wasn't too bad. Yesterday, we dropped in after a morning race - around 10am. It was a 45 minute wait for 2. Since we were starving, we waited.The place was packed. Service staff did not seem to be too attentive but they always have the best food selections. I ordered an omelette with a pancake. It was not for me. Egg was hard and i picked over it. Pancake was too oily for me. Too much for me to send food back. My huddy had the traditional breakfast with a side of gravy that he liked. Stopped by for lunch with the wife after hearing about this place for a couple of years and boy does it not disappoint. Your first decision to be made is whether you're going enjoy the all day breakfast menu or go for the other side which is just as equally good. I decided to go with the hamburgers and yes that is plural. Two patties come on a wheat bun that is spot on. I chose to have mine with the pimento cheese which was a great choice. It also came with a side of spinach, tomatoes and some delicious pickles. The wife had the bruschetta with a side of green beans and you can see by the photos this did not disappoint either. The meal I had here was simple yet delicious. No bells and whistles with what you order trying to mask an inferior product, just good quality food. I had the fried chicken biscuit with the sausage gravy. It was the best biscuit I had while in Atlanta and the chicken and gravy had a very nice pepper flavor. After being told by a friend about how much deliciousness was contained within Home Grown's comfy chicken biscuit, I've been to Home Grown twice and can happily agree with her enthusiastic statements about said dish. And this is impressive to me, since I rarely even order biscuits and gravy. The comfy chicken biscuit ($11) consists of boneless fried chicken pieces on a split biscuit. Everything is then doused in a creamy white peppery (but not overwhelmingly peppery) gravy. My favorite part of the ensemble is the biscuit actually. Nice and soft and slightly buttery. The breading on the chicken is thick and crunchy, and the chicken can be a teeny bit dry sometimes, but I approve. Depending on your hunger level and your stomach size, you may want to tack on a side. I need to branch out and try new dishes next time. We'll see! The hipstery servers are all laid-back but attentive and cheery. We walked into the busy restaurant about 15 minutes before closing once, and we were greeted with grins and no surliness. Also no grumbling while we lingered after the meal. The funky decor consisting of lots of artwork for sale, adds to the atmosphere. If you're lucky, there will be a fellow playing the vibraphone for your musical enjoyment. Parking is either in the lot surrounding the building or on the street. read more

Funky, home grown super yummy food. This is a top notch breakfast and lunch spot in Atlanta. You are almost guaranteed a wait, but you can grab a cup of coffee and wander to the back where a small thrift store is. The time goes by quickly. This is one great place to hang out. Love the vibe. The pancakes are as big as your plate and so delicious (try the chocolate chip pancakes and ask for real Maple syrup). The BeST french toast sandwich is a sight to behold. A sandwich made with 2 pieces of french toast with bacon, spinach and tomato inside. That's my kind of BLT served with grits on the side. This was a great find - let me first say that I am always checking with YELP before deciding to eat - would hate to miss a great find like this! The customer service was stellar and the food was unique and delicious. I started with the Southern Fun Dip - which was an unusual combination of flavors (pimento cheese/grits/chirozo) and I have to say it reheats even better! It's great with tortilla chips, but they serve it with ruffle chips that are good too. The vegan sloppy joe was delicious with a bit of spice and tons of flavor. It's messy and don't think about trying to pick it up - this is a fork and knife sandwich all day long. I got it with the fried okra and it was fresh and they use the entire okra - not frozen okra cubes. REALLY GOOD and lightly breaded. The final was the Hummingbird cake (and I had to reassure my daughter no birds were harmed in the making) and so good that I got 2 slices. They have parking and the small thrift store in the back is a fun find. I think if I had to mention a draw back it would be the limited hours, but hey...sometimes you have to work with them, not expect them to always cater to you. If they were available all the time maybe the find wouldn't be so cool! The serving sizes are great and there are many things yet to try on the menu. Great vegan/vegetarian options! read more

I've been here twice and the food is delicious! There seems to always be a wait, however it is well worth it! My husband and I ordered the pork chop and eggs with cheese and I substituted my toast/biscuit for the French toast. Everything is just delicious! My plate was clean both times I've been here. It's a 30 minute drive for us to get here but we don't mind for great food! Parking is not great. They do have their own lot but it fills up quick. So you'll more than likely end up parking on the street. Just have someone get out and put your party's name on the list while the other person parks. That's how we roll Also, this place isn't fancy. It looks like a real hole in the wall spot or something you'd see in a horror move but I guess that's just the charm? Heads Up! Kevin & Lisa have added an outdoor patio. Maybe late September. It is not covered, not yet, anyway. The crowds remain the same, parking is even worse. Indoor seating is available, tables are further apart and everyone is wearing a mask. I'd rather park across Memorial, in the shopping center, especially since that intersection now has a traffic light. Doesn't seem to be monitored, not yet, anyway. Be careful, crossing Memorial! Everything on the menu sounded so good that it was difficult deciding what to order. Every order brought out looked and smelled so good it literally had us wanting to try everything. We started with the fried green tomatoes- very good! Crispy with the right amount of seasoning. Comes with a side of horseradish sauce but it doesn't taste like horseradish at all... which was a good thing for us since we don't care for horseradish. I had the chicken breast, potatoes, collard greens, sliced tomato and cornbread, it all was on point! The collards were exactly what I'd hoped they'd be. I could eat my weight in Home Grown collard greens! My son went with the ever popular "comfy chicken". He wasn't disappointed. Not a crumb left! So much food! We weren't able to save room for dessert so that's a must next time. We're already anxious to go back. Excellent service too! I work right up the street. Every time we go, the food is fresh and the staff is nice. The French toast is great and the salmon patties are heaven. They open at 7 and serve lunch as well. This is one of my favorite restaurants. I've been going to Home Grown for years and I keep going back because the food is excellent. My favorite is the salmon croquettes. I love the flavor and they have the right amount of meat/breading. Yum, Yum, if you have not tried them you must. Their omelets are also to die for. Very tasty and with the right amount of flavor. The veggies are 'home grown' - at least this is what I hear. I love the fact they grown their own veggies and it enhances the taste of the food. The grits are creamy and my eggs are always scrambled right - well, well done. The staff is friendly and you see a variety of different types of people frequent this spot.
