I've passed by Home Grown numerous times, and they have such great reviews, so I decided to try them out for breakfast recently. This place is a neighborhood staple and is adored by locals. Parking is limited but you can manage, restaurant is cute and quaint. I ordered my food online and took it home. I ordered the catfish, cheese grits, eggs, and potatoes. The grits were the star of the show. Perfect amount of cheese and seasoning, plus great consistency. Everything else was just there. The catfish was huge and it was beautifully fried, but it was a bit too salty. The eggs were cold and unseasoned, and so were the potatoes. I could've went on an off day, but my meal was subpar. I would, however, go again to try something else! read more

I've been to Home Grown a couple times now and I see why it's such a staple in Atlanta! It's definitely a place you go to for comfort, and if you get there early enough the wait time is a breeze. The food is definitely rich--they don't skimp on butter or gravy here. The fun dip with pimento cheese and grits is a must try. For my entree I usually get the Comfy Chicken which is fried chicken on a biscuit covered in gravy. And then I go home and take a nap. read more

A hidden treasure in East Atlanta. Parking in back but it's usually full so be patient and someone will leave so you can jump in. Lol. They said it was a half hour wait but a table opened up after 5. Winning!! It's a quick space with 2 large dining areas. Service is super friendly and efficient. Our server came right over and got us drinks. After we placed our order food was out pretty quickly. My MIL and I don't know met for a brunch, and we're absolutely delighted and quickly overstuffed, as the serving sizes are quite large. Both of our dishes were great, but the fried green tomatoes were my favorite. Also, we took an order of chicken livers to go. Average breakfast spot, a bit overrated. Some of the dishes are better than others. I've been a few times, and always a wait. Parking isnt too bad, but the two handicap spots available in the front make it hard to back out on the main road. My friend enjoyed her chicken and waffles. I had the steak hash dish from the lunch menu. You can't order the steak at a specific temperature, which was a bummer. Steak was a little tough but not the worst I've had. We were visiting our daughter and we went to Home Grown for breakfast. There were 4 of us. My husband paid the bill and I didn't check to see if the amount was correct. We ordered: 3 coffee's, 1 tea, Fried Pickles, a burger, salmon pattie, grits, a Basic Breakfast and a Chicken and Waffle. When I checked my bank account, they debited $124. There is no way our order and tip came to that amount. Shame on them for what I can only assume was a change to the tip we left. read more

They are clearly welcoming to ALL groups that are "Positive" or "Neutral" (I saw some of EVERYTHING in there...Almost literally - All that was missing was a member of the animal community!) and that's just fine wit' Me. The customer service was STELLAR (BIG UP Jason!!), the food was good and I enjoyed the ambiance. The "Serving size-to-Price" ratio was good and overall I was contented. I will say, that the food was a bit lacking on the seasoning side, but still good. I'd come again; More for the ambiance though, as opposed to the food, but I'd definitely return! Everything was made to perfection. The neighborhood had changed a lot since I last ate here but the food stayed true to its delicious essence. Rude, response, our server then went to the table next to us and said "thank you for being patient" even though she had just left them less than a min ago to go grab them drinks and hadn't even looked at our table in over 10 min. That comment was the reason we decided to leave. We payed for our drinks and as one of us were paying, she handed the server a 10 dollar bill. The server then put the money on the counter and slid it over. Extremely rude and we addressed it and was met with back and forth. Really upset cause the food is good but we do not tolerate disrespect. Also as we were paying near an hour after ordering the food decided to come out... this is the first time in atl I have received service that was disrespectful. Will not be going back. read more

Early Saturday breakfast at a local spot 15 minutes from my home off I-20 and Memorial. Chicken and waffles were delish! Waffles were light and airy, yummo! Chicken tenders were seasoned well! Home Grown has been on my list to try for ages. Now that I've tried their breakfast, I'll definitely be back. It's a super popular restaurant, and was pretty lively for a weekday morning the day that we went, but there is actually a ton more seating than you'd expect from the outside. The atmosphere is laid back, friendly, and easy to relax into. We got coffee, french toast, the vegan sloppy joe, and Kevin's breakfast. We were hungry...and were fully sated afterward! The cheese grits are awesome, as is the chilli on it for Kevin's breakfast. My breakfast buddy appreciated that the sloppy joe was made with vegetables and not just a bunch of fake meat. The flavor of it is kind of on the sweeter side, which is not what I'm used to but is nice regardless. Service is quick, and prices are reasonable. Home Grown is the restaurant I keep going back to, and every time I visit it turns out to be a delightful experience. It's spotless and the taste of the food is wonderful! Starting from enormous pancakes to flawlessly cooked bacon, creamy grits and steak with a delightful sauce, they do everything nice. The Southern style nostalgic food they serve is nothing but perfect fried. The pork chop was soft and tasty. Hardly any restaurant manage to offer the same degree of consistency as Home Grown. read more
