Tried out the Honeybee today! This quaint little spot is nestled in the cutest historic district surrounded by beautiful 1920's Craftman homes. I had lunch with my boo and our two dogs and the four of us enjoyed the shady patio with ample seating. We ordered a hot beef dip sandwich and tuna salad sandwich on delicious shepherds bread that was so fresh! Both sandwiches were delicious, surroundings were quiet and peaceful... looking to going back soon! The patio is around the side of the business... so don't look for it out front... Today I ordered for delivery here because I was craving a latte, and was so happy to see they had a Banh Mi sandwich on their menu. The order was sooooo beyond disappointing. First, I received an iced drink, not a latte which is supposed to be hot with foam (I looked back on my order and there was not option to ask for iced so I was not mistaken about what I ordered). Then the Banh Mi was just very little ham with some pickled carrots but mostly mayonnaise and the roll was not at all what a Banh Mi is supposed to be. With the delivery fee and tip I spent $30 and it was so not worth it! I asked for my money back for the drink but Postmates only refunded me $2 for the $7 drink. Awful! In terms of cost comparison vs competition you do get bigger burritos elsewhere. Really enjoyed studying at honeybee (: this cafe has a lot going on from coffee drinks to boba and bagels to banh mi... But in my experience they definitely pull through with everything they do. I got their Vietnamese coffee. It was made with espresso making the coffee taste strong, which I like, but I'd say if you like to have a sweeter more dessert like Vietnamese coffee you might not enjoy this one. I stayed at the cafe for almost five hours, ordering a banh mi for lunch. It was the largest banh mi I've ever had, filled with multiple meets and avocado (which I've never had in a banh mi before) but it was really yummy regardless.. The cage had outlets and plenty of space to do work, and it didn't seem to busy. There was a steady flow of people in and out of the store, most of them seemed to be people in the neighborhood coming by for breakfast or lunch. I love supporting local small business, so after driving past this place a few times, I was hungry today and knew today was the day! I checked Yelp before stopping, so I had a game plan in place for my food choices. First request: Virgin peach mojito. They don't serve it anymore, even though it's still on the printed menu. (To be fair, it wasn't on the chalk menu board.) So, I grabbed a craft beer (that you cannot consume on premises) and ordered a pesto chicken panini. This was the referral by the employee, as I couldn't decide between it or the grilled cheese melt. While they cooked my panini, I ordered a blueberry smoothie. It was delicious!!! Highly recommend! I ate my sammich on the way home. Eh. It was ok. The chicken was nothing special, actually a little dry. The pesto was ok. The bread was ok. It was all just ok. Would I come back again? It's a cute exterior but really tricky to determine if it was open at 9am, no lit up open signs, no one visible inside through the big front windows, just a large tarp sign that waves in the wind saying "now open"... Which felt odd bc the outside and inside looked aged and weathered, like the restaurant has been there awhile. Friendly staff. Ordered a letter and chopped beef and cheese. Menu read a lot like an old Mom and pop Cambodian or Vietnamese donut shop with the donuts. Tons of predetermined combinations for tea, coffee, bagels and sandwiches but nothing terribly unique or special. Meats and cheeses are mass produced slices. Arguably you'll get something a little more unique from a subway. Latte was no frills and fine. Hot Sandwich chopped beef and cheese was strange. I did order without avocado, mayo and cilantro creamy sauce. Burger patty had been pressed paper thin and cooked to death. It wasn't really chopped and despite asking, I suspect it was precooked. From order to my plate was sub 5min. Weirdly, the cheese on the meat hadn't melted yet. Sandwich was cold to the touch. **People with food allergies beware** Definitely would have been a higher grade if the staff wasn't passive aggressive and disrespectful. Came in with a group and ordered an açai bowl. I have a nut allergy so I made sure that there were no nuts listen in the ingredients list. You can choose to have almond butter on the particular bowl, but i asked for it to be removed because of the allergy. I get my bowl and am eating and see a singular sliced nut in the bowl. I stay calm just thinking it was a cross contamination thing in the kitchen until i see more nuts. Another friend in our group also has a sever nut allergy and told me I should say something. I go up to the counter to tell the lady in her 30s taking our order that the bowl contains nuts in it. She says that she knows that. And I stated well you should have that in the menu, people have allergies and someone could get extremely sick or worse. She says "Well, I'm not a manager so I can't do anything about that" I ask if a manager is there and she says "Yeah but they're busy in the back" I ask for one anyway. Oh my gosh, this lady around 50s-60s, was so passive aggressive. I told her that there were nuts in the dish she goes "Oh theres no nuts, only almonds". Weaponized incompetence, gaslighting, or ignorance. Whose to say. I say "Well, almonds are nuts. And people have allergies. Someone could literally die". She goes "Well we have a little sign on the wall that states that there could be allergens in food". I responded "sure, but people aren't expecting peanuts in their ham sandwiches. Things should be labeled" She dropped the fake nice act with the quickness and responded "Right. Well, what do you want me to do. Do you want your money back???" I agreed and she ran to the back of the store. I got the refund, but if anyone working there sees this what I really want is for you to simply label the bottom of the açai bowl menu and say *contains nuts*. A one star yelp review is light work and I hope people with this allergy see this before they go, because if someone eats that and sues ya'l since federal law requires you to label top food allergens, $15 açai bowls will be the least of your worries. Do better by your customers. A simple "We're so sorry. We'll work on getting that labeled" genuinely would have sufficed. My friends didn't say anything specific about their meals. Mine was good, before I realized it was poisoned. Pictures of signage attached. *UPDATE* The bowl was not finished as I stopped eating after I noticed the allergen as stated above. But thank you for displaying the hostility here as you displayed to me that day. Genuinely everyone should see you for who you are. The mask is off. "People with allergies" can have delayed reaction times, a plethora of symptoms, and also carry medications with us that prevent us from going into anaphylactic shock, hives, stomach aches, etc. I'm really trying to use this moment to calmly educate just as I did then. As I stated before- PEOPLE with ALLERGIES BEWARE. This hostile reaction to my complaint is a small price to pay for me if one of your patrons doesn't end up sick or worse. Just picked up a breakfast order and everything was wrong. My Build Your Own Breakfast sandwich was supposed to come with egg, tomatoes, and sausage on a bagel...I got home, opened up my sandwich, and it's just a sausage patty. I ordered a coconut cream bowl that I got delivered to me I got a call from the resturant tried to call back and I got no answer. I ended up getting this watery mess which tasted sour for some odd reason and was nothing like an acai bowl it actually looked like someone just poured milk into a cup with fruit I don't live very far away so it couldn't have melted like this. It's one strong coffee to drink and it is delicious.You can customized your drink as well by adding boba.. etc.. Their sandwiches are the bomb, too. They make a roast beef sandwich with a Vietnamese twist on it. They serve it with a baguette rather than a traditional wheat. The result is way satisfying! Their meats are tender and melts in your mouth. Their sandwiches are underrated so it's a must! I still need to try their crafted beers cause they sell beers that I never even heard off, so if you wanna get drunk and be adventurous; I highly suggest to get a random crafted beer from them. Overall, I like this place, their costumer service, and especially the food. The only drawback for what I can see is.. their pricing. 25/100 Yelp Challenge 2016: I cannot stress enough the importance of a wonderful place like Honeybee's in our neighborhood. It may seem like a simple concept, but a place like this brings people from all walks of life together. Where you see your neighbor ordering their favorite drink and the owners know you by first name! I have frequented Honeybee's since its soft opening on May 1st of this year and see the changes and improvements every week! The owners Jackson and Maryane (sp?), are a warm and sweet couple preparing delicious coffee, teas (with boba too!) sandwiches and baked goods daily. "Wow Rosanna! That's awesome!" You say? Um, well that's not all people! They have an amazing selection of craft beer, and if you don't see something you want, just make mention and it will be ordered tout de suite! They also have wine! My bf's oldest son loves the green tea refreshers that come in a variety of flavors, my daughter loves the boba and also the Vietnamese coffee (which I crave on a daily basis!) as does my Bf. Today I got my frequent flyer card and it's already half way filled up. So support local business and stop on by, you'll probably see me in there too... :) Looks like some tables are coming soon! read more

I decided to drop by here for lunch today and was pretty disappointed in what I found compared to what the 4 stars and rave reviews of this place indicated. The shelves were only stocked with a few bottles of wine and the beer is only available in large sizes or by the pack. Why? BECAUSE YOU CANT DRINK ON THE PREMISE. They have all these signs up saying "notice: consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden on these premises". Cool. Let me go somewhere else or in my car to drink a beer with my sandwich. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Further, the interior of this place needs some serious work. Who ever decorated did so in a slapdash manner and failed terribly at making it appear 'new and cool'. To continue the rant, the doors are difficult to open. Watching a woman struggle to hold open the door for herself and a stroller (before trying to assist) was intense. Now, on to the food. I ordered a tuna sandwich and did enjoy the taste. But the meat/ingredient to bread ratio is lacking. You get more girth in a sandwich from subway, and that's disappointing. My matcha milk tea, I'm happy to say, was yummy. By shopping here you will be shopping local, but you do the same at another sandwich shop while also leaving happy and satisfied. read more

Not sure why this place has a 4.5 rating but it needs to come down. First time trying this place, were in the area for a music festival on the queen Mary but wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before we went. A family of 5 or 6 all ordered before my fiancé and I. They all got their food, finished eating, cleaned up their table and walked out the door before we even got our sandwiches. A staff member could have said something of the sort "sorry folks you food will be right out" but instead they all hid in the back until our food was finally ready. The sandwiches are not worth the price. I got the lobster grilled cheese and that lobster was definitely not fresh. You would think there would be better quality seafood by the beach. Why these basic sandwiches took so long to make is beyond me. My guess is they forgot about us. I'm all about supporting small businesses because I am a small business owner myself but my experience made me wish I went to a chain restaurant. Waste of time and money. I was on my way to the other end of town for a sandwich when I stopped at the intersection and saw Honeybee's sign saying "sandwiches and coffee"...figured I'd stop to see and was glad I did. The grilled pesto chicken sandwich was fresh and full of flavor; I got a tuna sandwich for later and their tuna salad has a little spice to it which was perfect...these aren't bland franchise sandwiches, these have character.
