Firstly, let me state this. An item is NOT GLUTEN FREE if you cook it in the same oil as you cook other gluten filled items. In this case, a falafel that contains no gluten products will pick up gluten from the pita bread you just fried in that same oil. I was so excited when Hummus Republic came to Burbank. I can remember my first time there and how pleased I was to see and taste all the GLUTEN FREE options that were really gluten-free...I have Celiacs so eating anything with gluten makes me very sick and leaves me with uncomfortable symptoms for up to a month...so, yes, it is a BIG DEAL. That being said, I recently returned for another visit and found myself sorely disappointed. I had been looking forward to a delicious lunch with my favorite falafels only to discover that they had been fried in the pita bread oil. In fact, all of my favorite fried items there had been fried in the pita bread oil rendering them untouchable for me. Now, I get that there may be reasons that you can't have more than one frier in your kitchen, and so can't provide dedicated oil for gluten-fee items. But if that is the case, you should-can not be advertising that item as GLUTEN-FREE, because it is not! Thank God for the girl that was assisting me that day who steered me away from the hazardous items otherwise I might have been writing this review from a hospital bed. So I'm giving two stars for the great service I received. The food is okay, I didn't really care for the meat items I was able to eat. The beef was of a low quality which I could taste through the spices. The chicken was brined to-death. I had ordered a bowl and threw most of my meal out. I won't be returning if I can't at least get a truly GLUTEN-FREE Falafel. read more

Late Tuesday Afternoon. Walked in to try this new restaurant but what a bad choice that was. I ordered the bowl, kale, 3 hummus, steak and cabbage. Two words, food poisoning. Hands down, no question, this is my favorite place to get lunch. Fresh food in delicious custom combinations in generous portions that leave you satisfied. I live for the mushroom "protein" and always get a pita on the side with my giant salad bowl, and on days when I'm feeling like falafel they've always got a batch ready right out of the fryer. Think subway but 10x's fresher and about 1,000 times tastier. This might be the saddest review that I have ever HAD to write. I cannot think of a meal that had me this disappointed. I LOVE hummus. Hummus with garlic, with roasted red pepper, with pine nuts, with sun dried tomato....you get my point? So, to see a spot that has a sole purpose of hummus, I was extremely excited to try. I ordered the bowl which had all kinds of delicious sounding options. My mouth was watering just thinking about the concoction that awaited me. I went with falafel (that I also LOVE). Mediterranean Spiced Couscous, Horissa Hummus, Roasted Eggplant Hummus, Zesty Feta, Added Tabbouleh, Fried Jalapeno, Chickpea Croutons, Pomegranate Salad and Garlic Jalapeno Tahini Dressing. It sounded like a party for my mouth. It was anything but! With ALL of that, can you believe that it had almost ZERO flavor? My falafel was so dry and flavorless....I wanted to cry. Worse than that? I ordered an extra side of hummus to enjoy throughout the week and had to toss it out. It was awful, and I mean awful. I had 5 other people taste it and they all thought it was disgusting. Really like this spot. There are so many options (on top of basing it as a pita wrap, bowl or baguette), for every part of the meal and it's pretty delicious. You get up to 3 spreads before the toppings. I usually get a pita with tzatziki, traditional hummus and roasted eggplant hummus, and this is all as a base! Like I said, so many toppings and sauces really make it worth it. Never tried their drinks, but they always look tempting. Sometimes they email me coupons. Used to be great, it went downhill fast. I ordered and half my bowl was missing. The pita chips aren't fluffy anymore. There's also a forced gratuity charge when you order online ??? I tried to take it off but couldn't place my order unless I added a tip. I don't care about tipping, but forcing it to make an order is ridiculous. Decent food, but it was better when they opened. Now we feel as though the owner is cutting corners to keep food cost low. This is an average place that gets 3/10 for Authenticity. I had a bowl with: garbanzo beans, kale, hummus, red cabbage (a whole lot!), feta, mushrooms, topped with tahini, beets, and crunchy seasoned garbanzo beans. First of all, it's a massive bowl/salad, which is pretty awesome seeing that it was delicious. And second, the guy behind the counter was pretty cool. This place is a fast casual dining pita/wrap/salad place and it's great. It's a really clean inviting place with a little bit of seating. It's all counter service and you get to choose everything you want to be put into your pita or salad. There's lots to choose from, and it's all delicious, and the portions are very generous.
