We went there for our 34th wedding anniversary. I had included that fact in the reservation along with a request for special seating. The Front desk person's welcome was a bit flat. "I see your anniversary". But no "wow, how many years? More like oh this is a pain cause I'm going to have to find you good seating. She offered patio seating which seemed great to us. But then the person who seated us asked if we were celebrating anything and my wife told her yes, our wedding anniversary but then proceeded to seat us in a high traffic area. Really? Kind of a slap in the face. Other better seating was available. Later, we asked our waiter if he would take our picture, he asked if we were celebrating anything? To which we again said yes, our 34th wedding anniversary. After we finished eating, the waiter brought the check in a flimsy paper holder, which nearly blew away in the wind! Really, we needed a paperweight to keep the holder from blowing away while I filled in the tip and signature. The food was great, but the lack of communication between staff about our celebration was really disappointing. Patricio was our server and he was truly amazing. He went above and beyond for our family. It was my daughter's 19th birthday and he made her feel very special. My husband ordered the 32 oz tomahawk steak. Julio cooked this to perfection. He came to the table and sliced it there. This place is INCREDIBLE. The view is amazing. Almost the best part about this place is that every single table has a view, I was worried before making a reservation that I should've requested it, but it happened anyway! The food was good. My boyfriend got the rigatoni all alla vodka which was good, but nothing to write home about. I prefer it spicy, but for those who don't it would be a good option. I got the ravioli on the specials menu, and it was much more of an acquired taste. The ravioli noodles were pesto, and filled with Italian sausage & cheese (not sure what kind, sorry!!) the marinara sauce on it was spicy and there was a bit of pesto. The bread and vinegar costs $3 & it was nice and warm. The reason I give this place 4 stars is that we were there for an hour and 45 minutes, and didn't even start eating until we had been there for 45 minutes. Our calamari was cold and soggy which was really disappointing but we only saw our waiter 3 times and it wasn't worth it to wait longer for hot food because we were hungry. I ordered a French 77 and they had made it for the first time and it was delicious. My husband and I went to Il Fornaio in Coronado for our anniversary dinner on Saturday night February 28th. We both had pasta that was absolutely wonderful. Had a nice birthday dinner here. It's early spring so the weather was clear and beautiful but still a little chilly, we sat out on the patio overlooking the convention center and Coronado bridge. Our waiter and busser were bother very friendly. We had lots of appetizers - loved the calamari and the fried zucchini flowers. More of a 3.5 star this time around. We are huge fans of this restaurant. First time at this location. It's beautiful, large, and well kept. Starters we had the Caprese Tradizionale. Good but the tomatoes were really hard. Not ripe at all. Crestino del pan is always delicious. Their bread is made there, very soft inside and crispy out. Lasagna has a wonderful flavor. Great dish. My daughter loves her Minestrone. Chefs special was bone-in rib eye. My complaint on that is that it was medium rare instead of medium and very fatty. I didn't want to return it since my order was wrong to begin with and would have had to wait longer to eat. The amount of fat on the steak was just too much. I don't know if it's worth the 75.00 price. Our server was very friendly. Little busy, so things were a bit slow. We had to ask for water twice, my husbands drink never arrived. My order was also wrong. Although some things didn't't go perfectly, you can just tell that they were trying. It couldn't stop me from going back. Walked over for dinner. 8 minute walk back to the Marriott hotel which was very convenient. read more

We ask for a window table and they accommodated us. The view is spectacular, especially at night. It took a while for the server to take our drink order. Once we got our drinks, we were handed off to another server and she was very slow to take our order (It was on a Tuesday and it wasn't busy at all). Once we got our food she checked on us once and didn't offer to refill my kids' drinks. The food was just OK. My Margarita cocktail was very good! Since our party had nut allergies they were super accommodating, as one of the breads had pine nuts. The bruschetta was so good! Such a perfect appetizer to start the meal. It was my first time eating truffle and wow let me tell you it complemented the bread and cheese very nicely. We ordered 2 pastas to share amongst the table. The rigatoni alla vodka and the linguine mare chiaro. Wow was the rigatoni pasta so good! The texture if the noodle was soft yet bouncy it was super delicious l. I was hoping that the vodka sauce would be more flavorful, but it was still very good. For the linguine, the noodles were nothing special texture wise, but the sauce and seafood was amazing. The sauce was delicious with a garlic smooth tomato wine sauce. The seafood selection in the pasta was also delicious as well. There 3 of us, and there was 3 of each type of seafood which was perfect for sharing. Best combo would be the rigatoni in place of the linguine for the mare chiaro pasta dish. We also got a pizza parmigiana to share. The pizza was ok. I was hoping that it would be more flavorful with the sauce and a bit crunchier than soft with the breading as its supposed to be a thin pizza. The good thing was the eggplant pieces were huge! Topped off the pizza with the sauce from our linguine pasta and it was perfect. If I came back, I would just stick with the pastas. Overall good vibes! read more

With a location like this, it's very hard to go wrong - and they didn't. This review covers both our visits: appetizer and dinner. We sat outside on their side patio for appetizers, and on another night inside for dinner: both locations had great views. Outside had the super Coronado afternoon weather - can't be beat. The staff member for our appetizer and drinks was attentive. The staff member for dinner was slow: drinks were ordered first and arrived after food was served and he arrived with grated cheese halfway through the meal. There is parking immediately at the restaurant, what we've seen over the years (we have walked by frequently) is there are parking spots available except on key holidays - then it's jammed. For our appetizer we had the Melanzane Infornate: in other words, fried eggplant layered with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. As you can see in my pic, the finishing got a little out of control. But the tomato sauce still had its rich and deep flavors. The creaminess of the cheese melded with the eggplant. The crusted bread crumbs added a nice crunchy texture component. On a different night for dinner, we had the Insalata Bietole (beet salad). I know beets can be overpowering, but since they were cooked, they didn't have that strong flavor. The addition of yellow beets also softens their strong flavor. But with the combination of the goat cheese topping, this makes for a robust and rich flavor. This is supposed to come with a vinaigrette salad dressing, either ours was missing or the dressing was exceedingly light. But it still was a fresh and robust salad. We also shared the Amatriciana. First and most plentiful, see my pic, was the "pasta tubes". These were cooked as you would expect and acted as a good carrier for the sauce. As you can see from my pic, the tomato sauce is fairly light. Its flavor is enhanced with the richness and saltiness of the pork guanciale (pork cheek) and pecorino cheese. It's a flavorful, yet relatively light pasta dish. read more

Had a cousin visiting from WA who requested pasta for dinner. I told him perfect, I just know of a nice place. Called in and spoke to Kelly who was very pleasant on the phone and was able to accommodate my last minute request for reservation. Food was great, ingredients and pasta was fresh as always. I didn't even have to ask my cousin if he enjoyed his food, his cleaned up plate says it all. I should've taken a before and after photo of his plate :) Place was perfect to catch up and talk, not loud that you couldn't hear each other. We were also seated by the window overlooking the city. We had an excellent dinner with Patricio. He was so patient and answered all my cousin's questions on the menu, and shared some of his recommendations. Patricio also came several times to check on us and filled our wine glasses. So we never had to look and flag him for what we need. So pleased that my cousin had a nice dinner experience! We finally asked the manager where our drinks were (we couldn't find our server and his response was "this is why I didnt want to make this reservation, you guys all want separate checks, so this is what happens" we asked for 3 separate checks. The food and the view were amazing, and the rest of the staff was kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, our experience was negatively impacted by our server; our receipt said Carly, but i'm not 100% sure that was her name. I arrived late to my friend's birthday dinner and had placed my gum on a plate beneath my pasta bowl, forgetting it was there. When the bowl was taken, I didn't realize the gum had stuck to it. When Carly returned, she asked in a stern and condescending tone whose gum it was. I immediately took responsibility and apologized, as it was an honest mistake. She then instructed me to remove it myself, glaring as she handed me a napkin and stating that she had touched it. While I understand the situation may have been frustrating, the interaction felt unnecessarily humiliating. As a woman of color, the way this was handled made me feel singled out and uncomfortable, especially since I had already apologized. Had this been addressed with more grace, this would have been a five-star experience. We still left a generous tip, but due to how this situation was handled, I would not return. read more

As a San Diego native who has frequented this location for years, I am genuinely shocked at how far the standards have fallen. I've dined at high-end establishments across the globe, and unfortunately, the experience here has shifted from elegant to surprisingly low-effort. The outdoor patio has lost its sophisticated edge and now feels quite unrefined. The structural choice of the wood planks is a major distraction; you can physically feel the vibration of the servers walking past your table throughout the entire meal, which completely kills the "high-class" atmosphere. The service was the most disappointing part. We had to specifically ask our waiter to clean a mess off the table that should have been addressed immediately. To top it off, as we were leaving, a staff member opened the door only to walk through it before us. In luxury dining, basic etiquette like letting the guest pass first is non-negotiable. If you're going to charge premium prices, the service and ambiance need to be top-notch. I won't be returning to the Coronado location; I'll be sticking to the Del Mar restaurant, where the service and vibe remain superior. I'm so disappointed, do better. read more

We waited a long time for half of our group to get bread plates and napkins/silverware even though we had asked several times and already received some of the food. Chicken parm was soggy and not very warm but the waiter didn't come back to check on us for so long that I never got to ask for it to be heated up. This is a lovely well adorned Italian and seafood restaurant right on the bay side of Coronado Island. We sat on the well shaded patio which provides breathtaking views of Bay activities and naval and water vessels of all sizes and types. Our waitress was there immediately. Drinks were ordered with glasses of water. The Old Fashioned and Expresso Martini were delicious. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and it was not very good. They need to improve this popular drink. Fresh Ciabatta bread was ordered and delivered with a dish with balsamic and olive oil for dipping. It was terrific! More Appetizers were ordered. Absolutely delicious tempura coated Calamari and baby Octopus were served with marinara sauce. We also enjoyed the egg plant baked Lasagna. Yummy. Main courses were pastas and grilled seafood platter. Then dessert with expresso, ice cream, and Baileys for the topper.
