One of my favorites Ramen locations which happens to be near by the Powell Bart station. Once inside you will be pleasantly surprised after passing the curtains to see a seating of tables and a vibrant ambiance. We ordered edamame for the table, it comes with a yuzu like salt. Which trust me you reaaaallly need to love yuzu otherwise just eat it without the salt. I ordered the Karaka Spicy, which I would admit could have been spicier but that is just a preference. The broth is always delicious, hearty and the noodles where also, extremely tasty. The service is always good, they move fast, and they are always ready to make any recommendations if needed.

Windy and cold in SF tonight, so we decided on Ippudo ramen before watching Supergirl at the Metreon. The host asked if we and another party of 4 wouldn't mind sharing a long table, so both parties agreed. The place was extremely busy!! Our orders were taken pretty fast, and the steaming bowls of ramen came out shortly after. The tonkotsu broth brought back memories of Japan where Ippudo ramen shops were everywhere, in the malls or train stations....yes, Ippudo is a very popular chain. And here it tastes as good!! The menu has expanded over the years, but we just wanted a quick dinner before the movie so we all ordered the same thing. Sharing a table must be confusing for the waiters, they kept asking which party had what ....

100/10 would go again. I can eat that seasoned cucumber everyday, and I don't even like cucumbers. The Karaka Spicy Ramen was a fan favorite-- broth was perfect and the poached egg was a must making it even more rich n creamy. The bun medley (tempura shrimp was my fav) and spicy chicken karaage was a great way to get this delicious dinner started. The ambiance made me feel like I was in Japan again. Overall a great experience!

Pricey for what it is. Portions are not very big. There's also very little soup for the amount of items in there, and staff refused to add even a little bit more of soup, which is strange from a customer service perspective. If you want a regular "ramen experience" a lot of the stuff (even the egg) is extra, which feels very nickel and dimey...

Chill spot! Good level of nice but not snooty. Lots of vegetarian options which I really appreciate, and the drinks were super yummy!

Came here after a long day at the Super Bowl experience. We did a walk-in for four. The wait for a table was 20 mins or we can share a large table with random people and be seated immediately. We were hungry. We went with the large shared table. Pleasantly, there was more than enough room. There were at least 1-2 seats in between the three groups on each side that were there- a solo diner, a small family of 3, and my group of 4. I ordered the Karaka Spicy, my bf ordered Akamaru Modern, his sister ordered Miso, and I don't remember what her friend got- I think it was also Karaka spicy. My bf and I ordered the Treasure plate on the side to share and a side of spicy paste because I know Japanese spicy is barely spicy (from someone who grew up eating SEA spicy). Karaka Spicy had a nicely balance tonkotsu mouth feel and pork flavor. Broth was a little salty. I was correct to assume that it wasn't spicy because I used half of the side of spicy paste and I still didn't think it was spicy enough. Chashu was cooked fine. Notes: - I wished I would've asked if they could swap the thin noodles for the thick ones. I love the chew thicker noodles provide. - Noodles were cooked al dente. Akamaru Modern tasted very similar to Karaka spicy without the spicy. My bf used the other half of the spicy paste as dip for his toppings. He enjoyed it. Miso was a lighter broth (obvi) with a good umami flavor and was not watered down. Solid. She loved it. I have never seen her finish a whole bowl of ramen before. There was a server in training that took our order with the help of the trainer- he did great. Staff was attentive with our waters. Bussers were also quick to notice and remove empty plates and bowls regularly making for an easy clean up after we leave and kept the shared table clutter free. Interior was modern, but casual. They had an expansive menu with vegetarian choices, sushi, buns, karage, etc. and a surprisingly large array of alcohol. I would def like to be back to try some drinks.

Great ramen and beautiful restaurant! When you first walk in, you don't see the seating area, but when you're guided back, it's so spacious. There are many tables and also shared tables if you have small parties and are open to it (they double check if you're okay with that!) We got the karaage and each a bowl of ramen. The karaage pieces were huge and I enjoyed them, definitely filling. I got the yuzu ramen with their spicy ball on the side, which was a great decision. The spiciness really brought out the yuzu flavor in my opinion and was so unique.

Service and Staff: - We waited about 10 minutes and were asked if we wanted an individual table or if we were okay with a community table (we went with the community table) - Our server was nice - we were put off a bit though from a random staff member that came over and started very loudly telling us it would be $4 if we wanted to add more spice to our ramen. This communication was loud, repetitive, and unnecessary - Scan the QR code at your table to view the menu. A server will then come and take your order Food and Drinks: - Sake: flavorful and smooth - Dragon Tantan: the sesame broth was flavorful and this bowl definitely came with a kick of spice from the Szechuan flavors - Spicy Miso: another spicy ramen dish punched with flavor - Yuzu Shoyu: fun mix of flavors between the shoyu and the citrusy yuzu. Not your typical ramen flavors Miscellaneous: - Good for groups up to about 6 people - Bathroom is located in the back of the restaurant - Fairly loud given the amount of tables in the restaurant

First time I went to the sf location since the first location in Berkeley opened 6 or so years ago. Staff were friendly and the food was good. We got seated and served quickly. I got my shoyu ramen because I like to compare this with all other ramen shoppes. It was good and solid but nothing strikingly out of the ordinary. Noodles perfect texture Broth has enough umami Porkx slices good Perfect medium boiled egg Love the bamboo shoots Oh and it's also convenient to have the baskets next to my table to put my coat a shopping bags.

Beautiful restaurant - you walk through the paper wall to get to the dining area, and it feels nice and private back there. I was really impressed with the overall design. I got the miso ramen. It was really good, but not on the same level as some of the other top ramen spots in SF. Prices are reasonable, and the service was great. Overall a solid ramen option!

I quite enjoyed the ramen. Got the modern tonkatsu, which i liked, and my husband got the shoyu (he thought was decent, not amazing); tried three buns cause it was happy hour; i liked the pork the best, and my husband liked the chicken the most. We both agreed the shrimp one was subpar. I liked the vibes too. My complaints: to add an egg, it was $4... I didnt realize it was the price of like two at any other restaurants until I saw the bill cause the waiter just asked if I wanted one (i thought it would be max $3 and even that is really pushing it). That was my fault for not double checking though. The service was really slow for a ramen joint. Employees were friendly but service was pretty underwhelming

    Brian K.

We thought it was a pretty good ramen joint. We definitely liked the restaurant aesthetic and the service was great. The ramen itself was tasty. We got the classic and also the spicy. Both were good and we liked the noodle texture. Definitely had that shin sen gumi hakata ramen noodle feel. The broth was good too. We got one of each of the appetizer buns but thought they were just ok and we could have passed on those.

    Veronica S.

Ippudo was kind enough to accomodate our group of 6 before closing time. They said we wouldn't be able to order appetizers which was okay because we were only interested in getting their ramen anyway. Their ramen was perfect for a cold night out in SF. If we weren't so rushed (which was obviously our fault), we could've enjoyed the restaurant a little better. It was definitely an elevated vibe from your typical ramen restaurant. Can't wait to come back again and try other things on their menu.

I was in SF one afternoon and decided to kill an hour by waiting in their line. I showed up at 3.10 PM and there was no line, I stood anyway and later the line built up behind me. Place is not the safest, I saw some folks trying to open the parked cars on that street hoping to find one that was unlocked . Not all folks who made it before their 4 PM opening managed to get a table in the first round. The place only seats around 20 people or so and they have a mandatory requirement that each person has to order a bowl of ramen. We got the following *enoki chips: 3/5: salty, limp, greasy to the point of floating in a pool of oil. *vegan tantanmen-2.5/5- disappointed by this one. Had better vegan ramen at several other establishments. The version here has two dominant flavors- extremely smoky and bitter. The kale didn't help as well. The enoki chashu was interesting though, had the texture of meat. *classic toripaitan-4.5/5- this was good and I can see why it got the awards. Had a rich and deep taste of chicken. All the elements helped elevate the bowl. *spicy lamb miso cumin-4/5- the flavors of cumin and lamb just shone through here. If you enjoy the flavor of lamb get this. The fried eggplant was epic in this dish. Overall, not worth the wait, the vegan ramen can be avoided unless you are a vegan. Get the classic toripaitan as that was the best.

The ambiance is extremely loud in there and the tables are very close together. So if you're looking for a quiet, less crammed space, this isn't it. The actual restaurant looks very nice, but not sure why the bar seats face a storage area with clear windows. As for the food, the calamari was delicious, they give you whole pieces of little squid. The ramen broth is very hearty and bold. When I was halfway through, it became a little too much. I do wish you're able to pick the thickness of noodles. I didn't like the thin noodles with the ramen. It actually reminded me of instant ramen. But to each their own with noodle thickness. I just wish there were options. I almost wish there was something else in the ramen to balance out the flavor besides more bold flavors from the pork and egg. It does the job but wasn't a huge wow factor. As for the service, they are pretty attentive. I didn't like how one of the servers kept hovering around the entire time grabbing anything they could off the table. The second we took off the wrappers of the chopsticks, they grabbed it. Usually I like the table cleared out to make space but it was the constant hovering that was awkward.

When my friend and I were seated after about a 40 min wait, we had spent so much time perusing the menu that we basically knew what we were going to get. Service was really kind and quick. My thoughts on the food below: Kabocha croquet: these were freshly fried and served PIPING hot. The perfectly crisp exterior and soft, non mushy interior were just the perfect textures contrasted against each other. The sweetness of the pumpkin meant that the vinegar heavy house dipping sauce was a requirement not a suggestion. The side salad also provided some freshness with each bite, not that the croquets were too greasy at all! They were well drained so just the crunch remained without the oil. Tori Tsukune: these Japanese chicken meatball skewers were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Perfectly grilled with a charred taste, relentlessly tender inside. Dipped in the accompanying soy sauce and egg yolk mixture it was simply heavenly. The yolk added a mild richness to each bite. Hotate carpaccio: this was the most unique take on scallops I've had in a while. The flavors seem strange at first glance (and first taste, if I'm being totally honest), but it took no more than two chews for me to change my tune. First off, the scallops are plump, crisply sweet, and buttery soft in the way that high quality scallops are. Next, the onion and yuzu provide a sharp yet floral aroma to each bite. The floral taste was initially jarring but became addictive. The drizzle of cream sauce on top tempered the sharpness and gave the dish a smooth finish. Truly a memorable scallop dish!! Midori udon: a scallop and pesto stir fry udon dish. This was unexpected combo when I read the menu, but it was so good! The briny and sweet little scallops were cooked to a perfect tender texture and they paired well with the mild, herbaceous pesto. The udon provided the perfect slurp. While I'm more of a soup noodle girl myself, this was an addictive and unique Japanese-Italian fusion! Niku Ramen: Taniku has a lot of inventive ramen offerings but the niku ramen stood out to me. I've had and enjoyed niku udon before, though I usually find the broth to be too sweet. This dish took all the best parts of niku udon - the mountains of tender, marinated beef, the soft boiled egg, the tender onions - and put them into a richer, heartier broth with thin ramen noodles and the outcome was fantastic. One of the most memorable bowls of ramen I've had in a while. The broth was seriously delicious. I'm such a big soup person so I keep coming back to that. It wasn't too sweet or too salty in the way that a lot of noodle soup broths are, but still managed to impart a ton of flavor. The meaty, fishy flavor was so drinkable. For the quality and quantity of food vs the price you pay, I was incredibly impressed by Taniku Izakaya!!!! Just banger after banger after banger. I saw that they have some good happy hour deals as well so I will definitely be coming back for more of their delightful apps and skewers. I cannot recommend this spot enough, there's a reason people queue for it.

We've been here maybe a handful of times at this point - the food is really good, cute cozy spot…read more However now that there is a soy allergy to account for - I can't easily neccessarily revisit my favorite spots. I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. And my dish came out, they told me there was no egg as its marinated in soy - perfect to me. I'm glad that was caught as not every establishments can account for everything. - Now I have a spot to (more safely) eat ramen! - I advise that if you do have an food allergy, do talk to the staff, and address your concerns such as cross contamination etc. I had a great experience, but I do find that because its not so regulated or understood and there is lack of education amongst the food/resturant industry - you always need to advocate for yourself and there is always a risk. I'm very apperciative of the staff here.

The veggies were endless, making each last sip enjoyable. The place was bustling with workers, but the host seemed a bit brusque. She might need a little training in good manners. Instead of welcoming us, she opened the door for herself without holding it for us, which made us hold our own door. She just left our menu without saying anything and disappeared. She could have asked the next person, who happened to be sitting side by side at a two-person table, if they were free to share. They were already done watching a video together. We had to squeeze in and awkwardly say, "Excuse me," while getting an eye roll. The host could have avoided that awkward situation by letting us know we were using the table next to them. Also, be ready to pay an automatic 5%. Tips start at 20% and go up, so at least 25% is expected. The service was okay, but the food was fantastic. The workers seemed a bit lazy and avoided us until it was time to pay. That's when they suddenly became incredibly helpful. It's surprising how tipping changes their mood so quickly. I can tell because she watches me as I select my tip, and her eyes change.

Food 4/5: we ordered the pork katsu rice bento with mini creamy ramen and the Yu Ling chi chicken bento with the spicy miso mini ramen. Everything tasted fresh and hot. We particularly liked the pork katsu, it was perfectly crispy, juicy and well seasoned with the katsu sauce. The ramen didn't have much topping (just scallion and Naruto) but the soup and noodles texture were great. I was looking forward to the Yu Lin chi chicken but was not a big fan of the sauce flavor, it was salty and slightly one note. Rice was well cooked in the bento but I could do without the edamame, they weren't cooked long enough so it was hard to get out of the shell and bland. Service 3/5: we were seated pretty immediately but had to wait quite awhile before anyone served us, it might be because we were more towards the corner and the restaurant was busy. We had to get up to find a server to help us with checking out because no one ever came to check up on us. Ambiance 4/5: nice space, slightly cramped, but generally nice with the exposed brick walls and high ceiling. There's also outdoor seating available here.
