Basically scammed me into paying more for a repair. On Thursday I called to book a time to change out the engine thermostat. They quoted me about $110 ($80 labour, $8 thermostat, $20 coolant) and told me the repair will take up to 1.5 hours. Showed up on time Friday morning at 9. Took them 3 hours just to get to my car. Then they called me on the phone, said that they've got the old thermostat out but the one they have in stock doesn't fit. Now they want $58 for the new part. Either I pay up or they'll put the car back together with the old thermostat, charge me for labour anyway, and say the car will probably start leaking because the old thermostat had a used gasket. Yep, open the car up and then leave me with NO option but to pay $50 more, or pay $100 for 3 hours of no repairs done at all, wow, what a terrible business. Will never recommend nor come again. Wasted half my day stranded here and had to cancel my afternoon appointments for a 9am appointment that should've been finished by 10am. And guess what they said in response "shit happens" not even a sorry! read more

Went in for a smog, failed the test $53. They offered free diagnostic and retest after repairs at $100/hr+parts. I took it to my local guy and smog passed just hours later with no work. They said they probably didn't warm it up properly. What a bust, never going back. read more

All the five star reviews are absolutely justified. I was helped immediately and given probably the fastest and most honest service I've ever gotten at an auto shop. I'm so used to places charging 80 bucks for just popping open the hood that I was genuinely touched that his 15-minute quick fix of my clunker came at no charge. This morning I came in pessimistic about my car with awful sounds coming from my engine, but I was immediately comforted when I heard him turn over my engine without a rattle to be heard. These guys know what they're doing and they're not going to rip you off. The head mechanic was really nice about it too! I'm really glad that there's a place out there that isn't taking advantage of those who are impaired when it comes to anything else besides pumping gas, changing a tire and maybe adding more engine fluid. Had my truck smog checked on a Friday, after work and the manager stayed just to take care of me. -Giving up personal time is a big plus to me. I was so impressed that I took the truck back the following Monday to have the A/C serviced. I found out I had no leaks, I was just low on refrigerant. Ronnie and the team are great. We've been bringing our Japanese cars here for several years. I use them exclusively for oil changes and routine service on these vehicles without any concern. They are very honest and take good care of the vehicles. They do not try to rip you off. In fact they changed out a power steering pump on one of my vehicles and noticed it was leaking during a routine service about 6 months later. Outstanding Honesty. A friend referred me to them because they were extremely honest and they did not try to "up-sell" him. I went with my old GL Mercedes and James (the service manager) was incredibly honest and told me the repairs were going to be around $5,000 and that he would NOT recommend my doing it. ( basically he turns down the short term money for the long term honesty). Since then , I have returned with my 1997 Eurovan camper for a tune-up and checkup. I told James he could do anything he wants to the car as long as it was less than $500. (I assumed he would use the entire budget like every other auto service would). He charged me half. Took my car in to get a wheel alignment and I was told it would take 45 minutes. 3 hours later, I get my car back, without them acknowledging the long wait. They said they had another car in front of me getting a wheel alignment, hence the delay, but I was told that after already waiting an hour and a half, and neither did they let me know that in the beginning. I don't think they even do the service themselves, I think they just take it to the Big-O nearby, as I happened to see my car pulling out of their building. I see a lot of reviews on here noting "quick" service, but I suppose they are not always this way, as I have experienced. They got the job done, but I would have rather paid a bit more somewhere else and not wasted as much time here. read more

Being a girl, I dragged my then roommate with me, figuring he'd help me not get taken advantage of. When I arrived, Ronnie was there to help me out, I dropped off the car and got a call for the repair, told them to go ahead and then got a call when it was ready. Fast forward a few years, now I've gotten into the automotive industry myself and I've seen the prices and the mark-ups of other places, I've also seen the qualities of a shop with good integrity. So, looking back, I was actually amazed that I had paid such a decent price for the fix! Being in the automotive repair industry is definitely not a cake-walk, especially when it comes down to relying on car parts or cars themselves to show the integrity of the work performed. I really do hope people learn that automotive repair is not an exact science and things are bound to come up. Had Irvine Auto Repair rework my suspension. When it began making a noise, I brought it back to them. They told me they could put the old suspension back on for $200, but would not guarantee that the noise would go away. They had no explanation for what was going on. I also complained about exhaust noise, but they told me that it was just the way the car was supposed to sound. Again, no idea what was going on. Basically, I think they were in over their heads with my car (it is not a cheap car) so I will not be taking my car back to them. If you have any car worth more than $40k, I would warn you to stay away from Irvine Auto Repair. They probably do great work on low-end cars, but don't take a Lexus, Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Porsche, Mercedes, etc. to them. read more

Took my car in for a smog, it didn't pass with high emissions of over 754, they offered to diagnose the problem and do repairs. That's when I realized it was NOT a test only station the receptionist didn't know if it was or not and was fooling around an employee whole time I was there unprofessional! Hour later took SAME car NO repairs to a test only station it PASSED with FLYING colors with emission ratings of 54. I think they are ripping people off with bogus smog results! No way the car had such different ratings same day hour later. The test only rating was the same as last year at another test only station would love to hear their explanation of this I bet the State Smog Board would too! read more
