Next, I should have walked out the minute I saw what their pizza looked like. The cheese pizza I saw looked like the equivalent to a children's microwave pizza. The fettuccine alfredo tasted like a grocery store frozen meal. The marinara sauce I ordered had mushrooms in it (the menu didn't even say it came with them) and I don't like mushrooms. However, when expressing that to the waiter, they didn't take that meal off the bill. Being someone in the service industry, I'm floored that it wasn't taken off the bill, especially since I didn't eat it. If I could give this place half a star, I would have. I remember going here after a long morning walk to grab some lunch and was thinking about eating pasta. The name itself just caught my eyes. I mean come on, "ISLAND PASTA CORONADO" So for me, to have that name, means this pasta place got to be good and so I went in and tried it. I was very amazed how nice and chill this place it. I love talking about the ambience of the places and most especially restaurants that I go to, and this is a very nice and chill Pasta Place. I love pasta with all my heart, especially Meat Ball Spaghetti, so that is the one that I ordered. And to tell you the truth, I cant really complain because it was good. Unfortunately disappointed on my visit. The Caprese salad was good but it's hard to mess up plain ingredients stacked together. The chicken Marsala and spaghetti was subpar. The spaghetti was over cooked. The Marsala seemed to be an afterthought to the chicken, isn't the sauce supposed to be thick? I think It had 3 mushrooms?? Which was 3 more than the flavor, which was t there. We thought at least we'd get garlic bread but it was a slice of some wheat bread? Whatever it was not garlic bread. We ended up here hoping to avoid the ridiculous food prices at the Hotel Del, and were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere here is lovely; warm Christmas lights, wine bottles, lovely tables. It is a romantic place, and with the open doors, the Cali breeze just pours on through. We started with the garlic cheese bread and it was delicious. My son literally moaned as he tore his way through it. We had a Caesar salad and that was okay, but had a strange balsamic taste to it rather than the expected flavors. My husband had chicken Marsala and was rather surprised to see Mariana on the same plate as the meal, but he said that it was fine. If I was to sum up this place in one sentence it would be "fine." My chicken Alfredo was good, but it lacked flavor that defined it. It almost tasted like Alfredo from a jar. My son had buttered noddles that he had to mix himself, which he thought was exciting, but I thought seemed lazy. We did wait a long time for our meal considering there was no one there but us and one other couple, but it was a lovely night and so there was no harm done. My suggestions are this: you've got the atmosphere down, but please work on your flavors. Don't put spaghetti with marinara next to spaghetti sauce. Season your Alfredo, or cook it homemade. Mix your own buttered noodles. Keep your waitstaff though; they were wonderful. read more

I've come here every time I'm in Coronado over the last 10 or so years, most recently on 12/14 when I had the garlic chicken and a generously poured glass of red wine. The pasta is delicious. This was probably my worst experience with Italian food. To be fair, their service was very friendly but the food was a disaster. I've been going to Island Pasta a few times a year since 2008 and had only favorable experiences. This was always a local favorite - casual, good food, good service and inexpensive. Until this evening. I brought my boyfriend to eat, raving about the cheesy garlic bread and some of my go-to dishes. We had to wait for a hostess to seat us even though there were 3-4 employees inside. Then we were greeted with I'll seat you in a moment, I have to first talk to my co- worker... We finally were asked to sit wherever we wanted. We ordered cheesy bread, and two entrees. The cheesy bread was very different than it used to be- not as flavorful. Our entrees came out cold and one was the wrong order. The waitress never came back so we couldn't correct it right away. After a while she came with the check!! Never asked if everything was ok, did we want refills on drinks, dessert... nothing. I refused to pay for cold food and crappy service. I paid for the drinks and garlic bread and left. I did comment on the awful experience to the waitress only to find out that the owner passed away last year. Very sad. He was a very friendly gentleman. I have no doubt he is not happy with what is happening to this restaurant. So disappointed. read more

Ordered from the Online menu and when I showed up to pick up my order, I was charged almost $15 extra dollars. I then brought that to the cashiers attention and instead of honoring the price from the online menu (which she confirmed herself), instead, she stated "I will Let the owner know"! That really upset me, plus the food was very bland, absolutely NO TASTE at all. It's as if they just boiled the scallops and mixed flour and water together for creamy sauce and put that over pasta. We recently moved to Coronado and are trying to support local restaurants. My husband has celiac disease so we eat gluten free as we like to share our meals. Island Pasta has gluten free pasta so we thought perfect. Not so...they cook the pasta in the same water as regular pasta. This could result in illness for a celiac or someone with a serious sensitivity. This is sheer laziness and lack of knowledge on the chefs part. Why have it on the menu if you are not going to cook it properly. There were other "safe" options on the menu but my husbands comfort level with safe preparation was lost. Wife and I stayed in Coronado for a night and decided to try this place out, it seemed reasonably priced and was a walkable distance. Service is good. Ambiance is nice. Cesar salad and garlic bread was decent but the garlic chicken and fettuccine Alfredo (with chicken added) were awful (my chicken was cold in some pieces, wife's chicken barely edible- fatty overly seasoned to a fault). Probably some of the worst pasta my wife or I have ever had. Now maybe it's because we are from the E Coast and know what good pasta is - but I'm telling you, Worst. Pasta dish. Ever. Looked like a nice place until we had to deal with the staff. Ordered the half and half combo where you get 2 half size servings of your choice of just 3 pastas. Ok fine since 2 of the 3 worked for us. Then 10 minutes after ordering the server comes back to say they're out of 1 of the pastas we ordered. So we asked if they would sub another half size of our choice since it's not our fault they ran out of one. Then the manager comes out and takes our drinks and asks us to go eat elsewhere. I would be hard pressed to name one really stand out feature of Island Pasta, but this is one of those case where the sum of the parts add up to create a pleasant experience. If you are looking for a casual but nice family oriented Italian restaurant on Coronado Island, this will get the job done. I played golf at Coronado Municipal Golf Course that afternoon, which is just a few minutes away car. Parking was quick at about 6pm on a Saturday, although that may have been luck because it was very tough the night before. When we arrived, we had our choice of indoor and outdoor seating immediately - we elected to dine inside. There is also a nice bar area. The place is comfortable. The menu is really standard Italian and Pizzas. They have beer and wine as well, although bottles only and just a few craft selections from Coronado Brewing Company which were both things I hadn't tried. There were a number of things I would have happily ordered. Several of the Chicken dishes looked appealing, particularly the Garlic Chicken and the Chicken Marsala. Several of the Pasta dishes looked good. After playing golf by the harbor all day, I had to go with Fettuccine and Clams, which was pretty good but not exactly loaded with Clams. The Cannelloni was reported to be good as well. We also got a side order of Garlic Bread, which is nice as you wait. Neither of us thought the food was out of this world, but this is a pretty casual place and the prices are not steep, especially for an area like this. I'd say it's a reliable place if you are craving Italian or Pizza. Overall we were completely satisfied with the experience. We walked the Orange Ave Street near our Theatte and settled on this place with decent prices. My spinach chicken was ok , a little dry since there's no sauce. Hubbie got garlic chicken w fettuccine- had a great lite flavor. Beware there is no warm bread like many Italian restaurants. Lots of outdoor seating but we sit inside cause it's cold tonight. Reading the reviews, it almost sounds like the quality depends on what chef is on duty when you eat. Some great reviews, some terrible reviews. My wife and I had dinner here. I had the chicken parm, she had a spaghetti meal with two different sauces. The pasta noodles did appear to be made on site, and were good. We've had the Roy-Roy Pizza which had triple cheese, double pepperoni and double sauce. Served on a thin crust. So delicious! Hubby had the lasagna/Spaghetti combo which he really liked and our daughter had the 3-cheese Tortellini with spinach, roasted tomatoes, in a cream sauce with roasted chicken on too. On our way to pick a restaurant after an amazing show at the Lambs theatre we chose Italian. As a restaurant owner in our own restaurant for 35 years I feel I need to warn people about this cute place. It looks good but absolutely NO Love in the preparation of their food. I'm so disappointed. I chose to write this yelp review because We work too hard to be served tasteless food. I'm Hoping this was just a bad night for them. The food was very mediocre.
