**GOAT ALERT** Carrot Cake The reviews for J. Alexander's have been on lockdown for months. I went here way back in November, but was unable to write a review then so this one will be almost 6 months after the fact. One of my old co-workers used to always bug me about going to J. Alexander's. He knows I love going to try restaurants and especially fancy spots. He was a little dumbfounded when I told him I've never been here, but he always comes here when he drives over from Orlando. Up first, the $14 deviled eggs. Ok so my only gripe is these things are frozen so cold I dang near had frostbite in my mouth. I think I would have enjoyed them more if they were just chilled or slightly cold. I don't know if this was a mistake or they're always served like this. For my main course I had the $25 French Dip. Sadly, I was not into this French Dip. I should have gotten something else. However, after I complained about the French Dip being very average the bartender told me the best spot for one is at Bazille inside of Nordstrom at the mall. Read my review over there. He nailed that one. Best hidden gem in Tampa Bay. The $16 espresso martini was flat out bad. Wouldn't order that again either. Now, here's the show stopper and the superstar of the day: Carrot Cake!!!! I've always thought Fleming's has had the best carrot cake around. Hello J. Alexander's. I now have to bring my mom here so she can compare too. I loved the carrot cake here. 10/10. I might even make this a **GOAT ALERT**. I thought it was that good. Would seriously consider coming here just for dessert only.

J Alexander's has become our pre Lightning game dinner spot over the last 2 seasons - so I figured I needed to update my review. After probably 20+ visits over the last year, sitting in the bar or the dining room we have had nothing but excellent quality food and fantastic service. A couple of my favs: French dip sandwich, Cypress salad with grilled chicken, grilled artichokes, and the burger. They have a great wine list and I r seen martinis served that looked amazing.

Friendly staff! Great food! Short wait! The prices are a bit pricy but the veggie burger I got was delicious and they were able to substitute fries with broccoli instead. The food came out quickly and our waitress checked in on us. Large parking lot so easy to park and right off the highway!

We found J. Alexander's on Resy and decided to give it a try, glad we did! Even though it's a steakhouse, they offer a wide variety of dishes, from fish to red and white meats. I ordered the Prime Rib, which was delicious, and the large serving of mashed potatoes was a nice surprise. My fiancée had the ribs with mac and cheese plus fries, also very tasty. My only con was that the mashed potatoes could have used a bit more salt but overall delicious. One detail I really liked was how they served my dirty martini. Instead of filling the glass to the very top (which makes it easy to spill) or giving me less, they filled the glass comfortably and brought the extra in a small side cup so I could refill. Smart and thoughtful! Our server seemed a little inexperienced but still provided excellent service. Overall, I had a great experience, and I highly recommend this place. I'm excited to go back!

Yep love this place too great espresso chocolate martinis the steak is good and cooked on wood. Fire service is always good right loaded baked potato. We love going to the bar and hanging out there for happy hour.

No need for menu, prime rib and dirty martinis with blue cheese olives. Always consistent, try it!

We had a most delightful dining experience at J Alexander's in Tampa! Made a reservation for two at 5:30 on a Thursday evening and were seated on time. My birthday was acknowledged by the hostess, which was lovely, and then we met Randy who would serve us for the evening. He was in a word... Amazing. Very attentive, friendly. He really made the evening so relaxing and comfortable for us. My husband ordered prime rib, rare, and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered filet mignon also cooked perfectly for me at medium. The deviled egg starter was delicious - wrapped up the meal with the incredible warm carrot cake... Randy said people just come to get the carrot cake and I totally understand why... Though I would come back for a great steak as well! Plenty of on-site parking.

I had driven by J. Alexander's multiple times but decided to give it a try after seeing it on Resy platform. I had a full rack of ribs with fries and Mac and cheese. The food was really tasty and I enjoyed the thin crispy fries. My Fiance really enjoyed his prime rib also. The ambiance is nice and upscale.

Hello Yelpers!!! OMG, where do I start? As soon as you park in the lot, the smell of wood fired steak grilling hits you and the drool begins! When you walk in the front door, you see the flames rising up from the grill as the steak and ribs are being grilled to perfection. I can just stand there and watch all day! ( warning: my mouth's watering lol) We sat at our table, party of 5 extremely hungry after just landing at Tampa airport flying in from Islip NY. Tyler our waiter greeted us right away and got right to it. He took our drink order, explained some of the dishes and guided us to some perfect selections. We started with the char grilled artichokes! Why? Because while I was checking the reviews, everyone was going nuts over them. So, I said.... Why not! Man they were amazing, never had them that way, but will now!!! (Being an Italian from NY, we always stuffed them) For dinner, 3 of us ordered the amazing FULL rack of baby back ribs!!!! They were totally delicious and the meat...... as a New Yorker says was "Off Da Bone" delicious. And then.... Let's talk about the sides! I had the "loaded" baked potato and the unbelievable Mac n cheese. All I can say was unbelievable. I ended up taking home most of my potato and half my Mac n cheese. I knew that I will enjoy them the next day just as much! The other dinners were the grilled chicken (all dark meat on request) and the filet mignon! These were both enjoyed as much as we enjoyed the ribs! (But wait, there's more.......Marissa Tomei my cousin Vinnie). Desert! I forced myself into the chocolate friggin fudge cake and vanilla ice cream which totally put me into a good coma for the night. Also order on Tyler's recommendation was the carrot cake which he raved about. He hit that right as well. Tyler's presence, personality and service was truly amazing and on point. He made our night when that much better.... Thanks Tyler! (Good luck with the upcoming birth of your child) Tip him well folks!

I've been to J.Alexanders many, many times and it's always been delicious! Today we decided to have a late lunch/early dinner. As we were seated our server Thomas approached and offered drinks. I absolutely love the French Dip from this restaurant. It's made with shaved prime rib. It's ALWAYS yummy. Today they had a special called Millionaire Steak Sandwich which is Grilled beef tenderloin, arugula, and creamy horseradish. The sandwich was served with French fries. I have never had this sandwich but took my server Thomas' advice and tried it. He said the difference is the meat is big chunks instead of shaved. While this sandwich was delicious, I personally wouldn't order it again. As you bite the sandwich the chunks of meat tend to fall out. For me, I'll stick with my original, the French Dip. I guess the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it! My husband had the original favorite, the French Dip. He ordered it with a side of Mac & cheese. I tasted his Mac & cheese and it was absolutely delicious. May have to get it next time! J. Alexander's also has a small patio area with a few tables in the front of the restaurant. Parking is plentiful at this location and never a problem.

Hubbys sweet potato hash was flavorful and filling. The lobster bennys had quite a bit of lobster and the old bay hollandaise sauce was perfection. The tagliolini al ragù was perfectly balanced, with fresh pasta cooked to the ideal texture and a rich, deeply developed sauce that never felt heavy. My…read morewife thought the atmosphere and ambience looked and felt as if it were designed by John Gotti's interior designer. XD I personally thought it was fine. The physical building itself is very unique, very old school... lot's of hidden hallways and tucked away rooms. Almost like a dungeon-exploring adventure (not a bad thing). The food was good. My wife enjoyed the foie gras ($34) tremendously. I enjoyed the lobster bisque (+$11 from included French onion soup with steak) moderately. (had a non-traditional "spice" to it) My wife orders the 8oz filet mignon, and I ordered the 14oz Delmonico (a.k.a. ribeye). The filet was very good, and the Delmonico was good. Neither were out-of-this-world (certainly not enough to warrant the exorbitant price). The baked potato (which mine included butter, cheese, and bacon) had a "bite" to it, something that I did not expect (or enjoy). It might be the butter... they say it was a sweet cream butter, but there was a tartness to it all that was off-putting. I also ordered a thrice-baked potato, just to try it out. It was awful! Bern's has often been rated as the #1 steak house in Tampa, but I just don't get it. Perhaps my unrefined palette is lost on all the Frenchy froo froo stuff. I feel like I could make everything they offered better myself... for a FIFTH of the price. Everything is just so expensive there, and at those prices, I need to feel like it is the best thing I've every had in my life. It was far from this. Additionally, the time it took was very long. I get it, this is a multi-course situation, and you're supposed to take your time and not be rushed. But I personally don't generally take 90 minutes from start to finish to each my food.... I'm just not that guy. The atmosphere and intimacy were great for special occasions, but all in all, I don't think we will be going back, ever.

Also the place looks like it's converted from a garage or something with metal walls and roll up doors that made the sound bounce around. The service was nice. We were well taken care of but they seemed to be spread thin because getting refills and getting our check took a bit longer than expected. One ssue was that the menu was very different from what was online via Google. I should have gone to their website I guess, but several items were not available and the filet I was so excited for had a very different set of items. No Brie au gratin potatoes or braised rainbow chard, citrus gremolata and a fig chutney. Now, let me say that my filet was delicious. I loved the sauce and the asparagus was good but for me, the potatoes were super underwhelming. A nice sauce or something would have made them better. They just tasted bland, were really dry and lacked any flavor. My wife expected the lamb or pork chops, they were both not on the menu. She got fish and chips which she really enjoyed, so it was a win. The Asian wings were our appetizer and were delightful too. Now the only real negative for us was the noise. We got there at 5:30 and it was fine. But as more people came in, the sound bounced around so bad that it became almost unbearable for me. I wanted to go so bad because people laughing and talking made my head hurt. Would I go back? Probably not. I didn't enjoy how loud it was. We were 15 minutes late for our reservation, which didn't matter because there were only 2 tables of patrons. Our server in training came by and dropped off paper Christmas menus and brought us water. Then we waited and waited and finally our sever arrived. We asked for the menu and she said the only thing they had was this special Christmas menu, which was basically all appetizers. This is NOT what we planned when making reservations weeks ago. So disappointing! We ended up leaving and having dinner elsewhere.

The perfect spot for a girls night if you're trying to sleigh into the holiday spirit! We all…read moredressed up in Christmas colors and Santa hats and felt right at home under the magical decor tinsel, twinkling lights, oversized ornaments, the works! I had two cocktails one came in the cutest Santa mug (instant mood boost), and the Clover d'Hiver was pretty and delicious from the Christmas menu. Service was a little slow with checks and I never got the food I ordered but honestly, the vibes were so cute and cozy I didn't even stay mad. Great spot for a festive night out with friends or a cute holiday date night.
