Yesterday night my boyfriend and I were looking around LA for KBBQ and came along this place. We're honestly not even sure why it only has 3.5 starts because this place is amazing! The meat is fresh and delicious and the customer service is amazing! Everyone was so nice and constantly checking that we had everything we needed and if we were satisfied, they even would cook our food for us and give us tips on how to properly cook the meat. Usually every time my boyfriend and I eat KBBQ every place we've gone to makes our stomach hurt but this place left us feeling satisfied and happy with our decision! I use to always think this place was just alright, but it seems that they have made some noticeable changes since the last time I've been here (which was a few years ago). I think this is my new favorite KBBQ spot. They load the plates up with meat, unlike other places, where one plate barely feeds more than two people. I know it's all you can eat, but it gets annoying when you have to constantly order plates. I went with some of the homies (making us a total of four) and we were good by the third plate. But what makes this place bomb is the BRISKET SAUCE you can ask for on the side. That stuff is CRACK!!! The food is great. The environment could be a little better set up, but for $12.99/per person, I mean who's to complain? The parking lot is a little small so when it's busy, don't count on getting a parking spot. We ended up having to park a block away but hey, we got to work out after having a super large meal. ;-) I've also noticed in some of the reviews that there's $2 valet parking in the lot.. but as far as I'm concerned, I've never paid for parking or even seen valet in the lot behind the restaurant. J BBQ's strength lies in its simplicity. It's all-you-can-eat menu isn't particularly expansive and the beef wasn't particularly high quality, but the chicken seasoning was incredible. Their bulgogi (I tried both chicken and pork) was incredible. I'd personally recommend to stay away from the beef in general just because it's not that high quality and when there are so many options to try why go for low quality meat? Service was incredibly slow-we went on a Tuesday and it still took us a solid 20 minutes to get our check-but not a ton of service is really necessary during the meal. On another note, I found a metal shaving on a piece of the spicy chicken. The server removed the piece when I pointed it out, but it's enough that I doubt I'll be back, especially when there are so many KBBQ places in the immediate vicinity. Overall, the meat wasn't great quality, but you don't go to J BBQ for the quality of meat, you go for the great price and all you can eat spread. read more

If you look at my check ins, you'll know that i used to be an avid fan of budnamu. but they raised their prices like helllaaaa and we had no choice but to find a new place. so thank you budnamu for forcing us to find jbbq LOL $13 for dinner. they don't have my fave beef belly here but the brisket is great and will do. the meat isn't as fat as other kbbq places, making it kinda dry sometimes. the marinated meat here is actually really good though! good mix of sides like macaroni and mashed potatoes and of course kimchi . they don't have as many korean customers here which is kinda confusing because you can buy raw marinated cut meat to bring home to cook. the only thing i don't like about this place is they never change your pan so it can be really crusty and burnt and they won't care. but service is good, much better than other kbbq places. street parking kinda sucks but they have valet for a dollar or two. i've been here 2x in a month, and don't plan on stopping any time soon. unless you guys have some suggestions for kbba places for $13 or under THEN HMU read more

We went there a while back before the price went up and before remodeling. It looks a lot different, newer, cleaner and much better meat quality and choices. When we got there around 7pm, we parked in their 2$ parking space, inside only 3 tables occupied, by the time we left only 1 long table in the back was empty. It got busy very fast even this was on weekday. My husband love meat and he said it was fresh with no smell and marinated well. His favorites were LA Galbi, Sirloin, marinated beef, Bulgogi. I like spicy calamari, thin slice pork belly, shrimp, Bulgogi and brisket. We were impressed with the service, they cut the meat, squid, changes grill and best of all the free beer and free soda. Pretty good and inexpensive AYCE kbbq spot! I had never heard of J BBQ before, but my friend took me here, as it was his go-to spot. At 7:30 PM on a Saturday, we had to wait about 10 min for a table for 4. We both got the cheapest menu (came out to about $17 after tax and tip). The service was surprisingly good for an inexpensive KBBQ place. The servers constantly came around to take our orders and refill our banchan, and all the meat was brought out really quickly. Sometimes, the servers would even come by to help us cook our meat if they saw us struggling, LOL. The banchan included potato salad, kimchi, macaroni salad, bean sprouts, pickled radish, salad, rice paper, and some other things. You also get a spicy dipping sauce, salt, and a non-spicy dipping sauce. As an avid rice paper lover, I have to say I was a bit disappointed by the rice paper here. It was too thick for my liking, and the flavor was off. Now, onto the meats! I tried the brisket, bulgogi, spicy pork, calamari, and pork steak. The quality of the meat was okay. In order from favorite to least favorite, I'd say spicy pork, bulgogi, brisket, calamari, then pork steak. The spicy pork was actually surprisingly good, since I normally prefer beef at KBBQ places. However, this spicy pork had a really good flavor and texture. The bulgogi and brisket were also good, not the best I've had though. The calamari was new to me, as I've never had calamari at any KBBQ place before, but I actually really enjoyed it! It was a bit chewy/rubbery, but had a good flavor. I am a kbbq lover and I honestly cannot believe what this place serves. Meat is subpar, which is expected since you do get what you pay for, but the banchan was absolutely disgusting. The macaroni salad and potato salad was straight up yellow and the kimchi was definitely not fresh. It was so soggy and the moment I bit into it, I almost threw up because there was a rotten fermented flavor that I could not handle. In addition, the rice was solid as a rock, rice paper cut into uneven small rectangles, and our grill was not changed ONCE throughout our whole meal. Maybe I have high standards but for the price, I'd recommend BudNamu for the best bang for your buck. From high end single serving to low budget AYCE, there's a place for everyone. On the corner of Vermont and James M Wood, we came across J BBQ. A divey establishment in a dicey neighborhood. By definition, it is a figurative hole in the wall restaurant so you know it's has potential to be good. Well, it was. Now I've never been to Seoul but this is what I imagine a family owned KBBQ place would look like. Modest yet clean interior with some good food. Korean words all over the place while Korean TV or music plays. We were greeted with a friendly smile and were seated immediately. This may have been an oddity because it does seem like this place gets packed on the weekends. We looked at the menu. The food was good. It I really enjoyed was the fact that JKBBQ offers different menu levels. We typically stick to brisket, bulgogi, squid, - which at J KBBQ fall under their "A" menu for $13.99 ea. Now it's difficult to get a single meal anywhere in LA for $13.99 but AYCE KBBQ?! AYYEE!! The prices and options go up from there. For $17.99 you get approximately 24 options to choose from. Double the "A" menu. For menu "C" $21.99, you get about 28 options. Mostly thick cut pork belly is added to the menu. The food was good and so was the service. The wait staff is attentive and constantly asking you if you'd like more meat. The banchan is quickly brought out also if you're running low.
