    Ghormeh Sabzi Stew
    Robert C.

Amazing service from the start. Everyone from the host to the waiters/waitresses treated us like family from the moment we stepped inside. They went through the menu and provided lots of recommendations. The food was spectacular. Each bite was loaded with fragrant flavor that is so distinctive of Persian cuisine. As an insider to the Persian community, I can attest that the ghormeh sabzi is wonderful. If you're stepping into the world of Persian cuisine for the first time, order this with some cherry rice and tahdig!

Wow! Amazing foods and amazing service. One of the best Persian restaurants on the westside . Highly recommend.

If you like Persian food or haven't tried it, this is a good spot to get acclimated. We came for lunch with friends who were eager to share their cuisine with us. I have had Persian food before and I like it fine... not my favorite but still... Javan is pretty and the service is very good. We made a lunch reservation but on a rainy Friday afternoon, they weren't busy. Still, probably make a reservation because this feels like an expat's favorite. We had the appetizer sampler and a big family-style platter of kebabs for our main course. Everything was good - the chicken with saffron and the two kinds of beef we tried were all good. The rice is delicious and the tea had a delicious spicy kick. Definitely a good place for an intro to Persian food or a nice meal if you're an expert. Plenty of street parking and lots too.

This is probably my favorite Persian restaurant on the west side! We usually come for their lunch special since we are local and always leave feeling unable to breathe after. My favorite is the chicken koobideh plate and a close second is the chicken kabob plate. Both are very juicy and flavorful. I don't know what they do to the chicken but it shocks me every time! I need to learn the secret to cooking chicken to be this juicy/flavorful! Service is always very welcoming and there is almost always ample seating at lunch. There's always street parking as well and the food comes out fairly quickly. Perfect spot when you're in a time crunch without having to compromise quality.

Such a great restaurant for big groups! We got a big table of 20 to celebrate a UCLA concert. Staff was so nice and accommodating, extremely friendly and funny. We got a spread of appetizers which we absolutely devoured - especially the bread and onion something dip. The lamb shank fell right off the bone and paired perfectly with the cherry rice. Would absolutely come back!!! They also have UCLA special deals.

What a pleasant surprise! This place is so good. We almost went to Darya down the road, but the ratings here were higher, and I can see why. The food was fantastic. Everything we had was so flavorful! I am now a Gormeh Sabzi fan for life! The koobideh was super tender and seasoned really well. The Cornish game hen was definitely a favorite. It had just the right amount of char on the skin. Our server was Viktor, and he was the friendliest most helpful server. We have been to some Persian restaurants where we felt unwelcome. This was NOT the case Viktor shared how everything was made and he made the whole experience wonderful. There isn't a ton of ambience here, but we came at an off time. We sat in a booth, and it was cozy. I will come here again and again!

Came in after a frightening almost car crash experience asking for help and were met by Alex who was very friendly and offered us hot tea. Very delicious tea and super friendly staff who helped. The food smelled delicious and it was a very comforting and warm environment. Will definitely be coming back to try their delicious looking meals! Thank you Alex for being our angel.

Street parking, we arrived to an almost completely empty restaurant on a Tuesday night ~6pm for dinner and enjoyed recommendations from our server: chicken, beef koobideh, and lamb shank. We added a stew and also some cherry rice and one more special rice. If you have not tried this style of rice or are new to Persian food, this will be an incredible meal! Because LA has such a high density of phenomenal Persian restaurants, I cant say that Javan has successfully distinguished itself at the top of the pack. However, it's absolutely high quality, delicious, and reliable so I definitely recommend it. We did have to go find our server ourselves a few times, and the booth was not very comfortable.

Good afternoon, we have free subterranean parking. The entrance is through the side of the building east of Colby Avenue from the alleyway. Thank you!

We ordered the sour cherry limeade, sooo refreshing! Barbari flatbread fresh and warm Eggplant gheimeh , the eggplant was roasted to perfection served with rice soo incredibly flavorful. Manama fried potatoes service with lemon wedge and a dip - you have to eat it all together well paired, potatoes had the perfect softness and crisp. Mirsa ghasemi - roasted eggplant Mix this with the smashed green olives on your babari flat and yes! The tomato Persian cucumber salad was also refreshing, wth great flavors and crunch. Turmeric Braised Chicken - The dish was a bit on the basic end, not a lot of seasoning but you could taste the tumeric. Chicken was tender but slightly on the drier side which was a bit surprising considering it was dark meat (6.5/10) Kofteh Tabrizi - The tomato taste was prominent in the broth but the meatball itself was overly salty. The flavor was one note, I can't see myself ordering this again as I've heard this dish should have more complex flavors so I was disappointed (5.5/10) Kotlet Plate - As you can see from my picture, the kotlet was burnt beyond repair and I could taste the bitterness from the overused oil they used to fry it. I did like the yogurt spread and the pickles that came with it but I did not like the kotlet at all. We didn't bother asking them to replace it (4/10) Mirza Ghasemi w/ Barbari bread - The star of this whole experience was the Mirza Ghasemi, the roasted eggplant and tomato spread came cold and it was the most delicious thing we had. One of my friends vacuumed it right up before the rest of us could have seconds. Bread was a bit dry but it was a great vehicle for the Mirza (8.5/10) Lamb Gheimeh - Lamb was tender and it had some nice spices infused in there but it didn't wow me in any way (7/10) Sholezard - Our waitress brought over some complimentary Ceylon tea with the Sholezard which was kind. This rice dessert was not too sweet. The warmth and saffron ended our meal in a comforting way. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't get it again (7/10) +1 star for the service

I finally had the chance to stop in for a solo early dinner, but unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the Lule Kabob Combo ($22), which included skewers of minced beef and chicken, rice, veggies, pita, hummus, and a side salad. The highlights of the meal were definitely the salad and the grilled tomato; the pomegranate seeds in the rice were also a nice touch. However, the meats weren't to my taste--the chicken had an odd aftertaste, and while the beef was better, neither really worked for me. Adding the provided sumac and lemon helped, but I wouldn't order the kebabs again. Additionally, the hummus lacked creaminess, and the pita tasted like it was mass-produced rather than fresh. On the positive side, the portion sizes are very generous for the price point, and I left feeling full. I also have to mention that the patio is adorable and very "Instagrammable," so it's a great spot if you're looking for a photo-friendly environment. A quick note for future visitors: they are currently having issues with their card reader and are requesting cash or Zelle. It felt a little unusual to be rung up on a register only to pay via Zelle, but it wasn't a major deal. While I appreciated the atmosphere and value, the food itself just wasn't for me, so I likely won't be returning.

That's why I was excited to bring my girlfriend and her friend here today. Unfortunately, this experience was completely different. Our waiter, Amir, barely checked on our table. His greeting and every interaction with us felt monotone, rushed, and completely lacking any warmth. There wasn't a single smile or welcoming gesture throughout the meal. At one point, I walked to the restroom and, on my way back, saw the same waiter enthusiastically speaking Farsi and providing attentive, friendly service to several other tables. The contrast between how those tables were treated and how we were treated was impossible to ignore. Based on my experiences here, it certainly felt like customers who are Persian or speak Farsi receive a much warmer level of service than those who don't. The food is still good, but service is a big part of the dining experience. I left disappointed, especially after recommending this place to others. Unless you speak Farsi or are Persian expect mediocre to poor service. This shoutout is for you Amir! Hopefully management reads this review.
