Heard about this place through my kids so we decided to check it out. The ordering process is reminds me of some Asian fast food restaurants - there's a kiosk at the entrance and you wait in a patio-like area until your number is called. When it's ready, a sliding door opens leading you to a bar area where the drinks are made. Having been to several boba shops, this place is just ok. I reallllly wanted to like Jellyman because I love Donald Glover so much. Cute spot. Found street parking easily enough on a Sunday afternoon. You order at the kiosk outside. Then you wait in an outdoor seating area just outside the entrance. Inside is not meant for hanging out at all. They post the drinks as they're prepared on a monitor in the seated area. Once your drink is ready. THEN they let you inside to collect it. It's a quick in and out process. The drinks themselves were just meh. Def nothing special and not worth the price or drive (for me, coming from Cerritos). But if you love Danny Glover and want to support his small business, I say GO! GREAT experience! You order at the he kiosk and customize your drink to your liking. If you want it less sweet then you choose a lower percentage of sweetness. It's a no brainer. You have your choice of dairy or non dairy milk. And also your choice of toppings. There a lounge area while you wait and once your drink is ready you're allowed inside to see the futuristic Jellyman art installation. The people working there were very helpful and very kind. I was surprised the PB&J man was actually good and I'm not a huge peanut butter flavoring fan or jelly fan, but it really nails the taste. This place was very misleading on social media, looked a lot bigger than it was. Parking on sunset wasn't difficult on a Saturday, but expect only street parking. The "vending machine" to order at stopped working as we were ordering our drinks, and there was no way to put in multiple drinks while using the machine for one transaction. We needed to ask for help a couple of times and ended up ordering at the counter inside, which took away the experience with seeing the flip board. The seating/waiting area has changed, and was just green couches outside, with a small pickup counter inside. The drinks were definitely experimental, which was a good thing, but they were not great. The miso apple drink tasted like candy, but not in a good way. My four seasons milk tea was OK, nothing I crave to come back for. read more

Pretty cool boba shop owned by Donald Glover. This is located on the famous street of Sunset Blvd, so this is a great spot for some foot traffic. Parking is not easy in this area, but there are a lot of metered parking spots. Service was really good! I came with my supervisor since it was the nearest boba shop to my workplace. You have options to have a milk tea based drink. Menu is on the side of the wall when you walk in. There is not very much seating, so it seems more like a grab and go place. Decor is pretty cool with the ambient lighting and the big statue thingy. I ordered the rose hibiscus latte for myself at 25 sweet with oat milk. It was pretty watered down. Wanted to support this place because of its connection to Childish Gambino. I went in late November, and for some reason we had to order outside of the shop and weren't allowed to go in. The workers were kind and brought the drinks out when they were ready, which I appreciated. My party ordered two brown sugar milk tea boba drinks--they were very sweet but not very flavorful. I ordered an iced black tea, which was murky and bitter. That usually happens when tea is brewed hot and then immediately refrigerated; properly made iced tea should be clear and rich, not cloudy. Overall, I didn't like that we couldn't enter the shop, and the drinks felt overpriced for the quality. Trendy Boba spot with a unique and expansive menu. The service is top notch and all the baristas are incredibly friendly. I couldn't decide which drink I wanted so I asked the cashier which was the best between the 3 that sounded best, and he recommended the Rose Hibiscus Milk Tea. Donald Glover's new spot is stylish and sleek, low key fun vibes. Because the ambiance is dark and almost like a lounge, this is a great alternative date spot if you don't want liqs. Not to mention cute photos can be had with the big @$$ statue inside. I popped in to try things out because I'm a huge Childish Gambino fan...I mean, who isn't!? Jelly man is exactly the type of aesthetic you would imagine for Donald Glover and Sunset Blvd. I loved the details that were put into the atmosphere, you can literally sit and relax for hours, people watch or just get some work done. Even though that space is small it's inviting and comfortable. I landed on the four seasons as per employees recommendation. It's an oolong tea with your choice of milk, I choose almond milk and added chia seeds. I enjoyed it but it wasn't a typical milk tea boba type of drink. Y'know what this place is pretty good. The Thai limeade reminds me of the Vietnamese drink, nuoc chanh muoi (salted pickle lime with carbonated water). My boyfriend recently moved to Silver Lake, and I happened to find a boba shop literally walking distance from his house. Though I got lucky to find a street parking right in front, it rarely happens in this neighborhood.   The ambiance was semi-dark, groovy, and hip, and I suppose it fits the 'Silver Lake' vibe. There are five or six small tables that are sort of separated from the ordering area. It is not an ideal place to get work done since it does get loud with people talking.   I awaited in line for about 10 minutes or so and got myself a Grape Jasmine. I asked for a sweetness adjustment but was told it was already made, so I couldn't adjust it. Another Yelper has mentioned they got the same drink with a specific sweetness level, so I was a bit confused, but the ice is adjustable.   How was my drink? It was nothing special. For a drink that costs more than $7, I expected it to be better than what I got. It was flavorless and definitely felt like it was watered down. It was not too sweet so that was great but like I mentioned, it was lacking so much flavor. I heard real grapes are used but it was not worth it. I can probably get something very similar at one of the boba shops I frequent near home in San Gabriel Valley for much cheaper even if they don't use real grapes.   I don't know. This place is probably a one-and-done type of place for me. I was excited to see a boba shop in Silver Lake, but it did not live up to its name. I will probably wait for Tastea to open, or just go to Erewhon for a smoothie.   The menu also needs more work. Instead of having us ask what is in each drink, I wish they had more detailed information on the menu, like a simple breakdown of each drink and its price, which could potentially save a lot of time when ordering and perhaps less people waiting in line. Great service, trendy interior, and a pretty solid menu! When I heard that Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) came up with this boba shop AND opened it in Silverlake... I knew I needed to stop by ASAP! But so did the rest of Los Angeles... it was about a 40 minute wait to order and get our drinks. I ordered the Grape Jasmine, which seemed to be really popular among many people walking out of the store. The drink was on the sour side, but you can tell they use fresh grapes! I love Donald Glover so I had to check "his" boba shop out. Unfortunately I think he should just stick to making music. The interior of this place was indeed beautiful and unique. Seating is very limited and youll be packed like sardines in the small seating space. Parking is tricky of course since its LA but I got lucky with street parking being right outside. It took a long time to order drinks. Each group took about 4 minutes. One of the reasons why it takes people so long is because theres no menu posted anywhere. First off, the service was great. The cashier was extremely helpful in helping us decide what to order. The interior also looks really cool and it's got those silver lake vibes. We tried four different drinks. Yuan Yang tasted the most like what it's named after, a Hong Kong style coffee milk tea (鴛鴦奶茶). The hangover cure, which was a bit sour and salty, wasn't that bad, but after a while, reminded me of smoked ham. Something might be wrong with my taste buds, haha. The brown sugar milk drink was way too sweet, and it tasted too much like condensed milk. The grass jelly and egg pudding was a bit off too. Finally, the pbj drink, it's not bad, but it's not good either. The peanut flavor wasn't as strong as I expected. My brother wanted to check out Jellyman since he's a big Donald Glover fan and so I went with him not expecting very much from the drinks. Somehow, the boba met below both of our expectations sadly. First off, I didn't realize how expensive and overpriced everything was. We got a total of 3 drinks and it came out to around $25. That's $8.33 per drink which is crazy and the only other boba places that are justifiable to charge that much is Odd One Out in Sawtelle or Chicha SanChen because their drinks are of actual quality teas and have won awards in Brussels. There is a decent selection of drinks at Jellyman but when I asked the cashier, he said the peanut butter jelly was the most popular and so that is what my brother got. I honestly couldn't take another sip after trying it because it was very weird how similar it was to an actual PB&J sandwich. I guess it's personal preference but I personally thought it was very weird to be drinking a PB&J, especially with boba and the taste threw me off. Again, no shame against the creativity of the drink but at the same time, it's crazy how the small cup costed almost $9. I went simple and got a jasmine milk tea which came out to around $7 and the cup wasn't even filled all the way to the top :( the quality and taste was terrible as if it was diluted milk with a hint of jasmine. It was so bad that I honestly prefer boba time, quickly, or tapioca express' teas over jellyman's. At least theirs is under or around $5. Overall, if you are a die hard Donald glover or Childish Gambino fan and want to support, by all means go ahead and give Jellyman a shot. Who knows, maybe you'll enjoy the PB&J drink. Since the menu has no descriptions, I asked the cashier about a few drink names before deciding to try the Hangover Cure, which was described as a smokey plum drink. With no toppings, the drink came out to $7.67 after tax, and I got my drink in about 5 minutes. Someone else described it as having a smoked ham/bacon taste, and I wholeheartedly agree. It was drinkable and I finished since the cup was small, but would not recommend. There is not much seating at all maybe 5 tables. The worker was really nice and helped give recommendations. We opted for a matcha and a plain black tea. To my surprise, I enjoyed my drink and drank it within 10 minutes. I got the Peanut Butter and Jelly. I will get it again. The cashier was very friendly and welcoming.
