The place was quite empty, so there was a wonder of why, except at the same time, there is no wondering cause there are so many places to eat at. We came at 2pm, and they close at 3-5pm for their lunch break, but they were fully engaged with our experience of the restaurant. We ordered chicken fried noodle with handmade noodles, stewed beef tendon noodle soup with knife-edged noodles, and pork with leek boiled dumplings. Everything was good! The chicken chow-mein was great! The wok char on it was perfect. The flavors were well defined. The dish came together harmoniously. The veggies were well cooked. Everything on this was perfect. The tendon soup only came with tendon. I thought it would come with some beef chunks too, but nope, just tendon. No complaints, just a realization for the next visit to order more correctly. It was good too. The knife edge noodles were perfectly chewy too. The pork-leek dumplings are just what you'd expect. They are well flavored if you eat them before anything else. But if you should eat it after other stuff, be prepared to use some vinegar, chili, and or white pepper to get more flavor into them to match up with the stack of flavors from the other foods. I think this was a throwaway place that a friend mentioned as an option for a dinner one night and another friend was like "oo I'm down for some cat ear pasta". I had no idea what that was, but went along with it and this has become a favorite. I don't know enough about Chinese food to say this is super authentic or super good, but I enjoy this spot a lot. The food to me is solid. The "Mooshu Cat Ears" is a delicious noodle dish. The Pan Fried Bun with Pork is my favorite. I get a Large even if it's just me and my wife. We take the left overs home and they actually heat up decently well. I never learn my lesson and bite into them too early and burn myself. I don't care, I'm not going to wait for it. The Cumin Lamb is excellent as well, but it's a lot of cumin and peppers and not a lot of lamb. It tastes so good on a trip with friends they demanded we order a second one and I happily obliged. The only thing I'm not super in love with that we regularly get is the beef roll. I think it's okay, but I can enjoy even a bad beef roll. Service is OK, it's a family run hole in the wall spot. They're friendly, take your order, then mostly leave you alone. It makes it a surprisingly nice spot to catch up with friends or family. If you are looking for Chinese food, definitely come and check this place out. We actually came to this restaurant twice in a span of 2 weeks, so this review will cover both times. The service was quick and the owners were very nice and courteous. The ambiance felt like a cozy sit down restaurant. During our first visit, we ordered pan fried dumplings with pork, beef stewed noodle soup with knife cut noodles, and don don noodles with hand pulled noodles. Just a quick tip - some noodle dishes allow you to choose between two types of noodles. One type is the knife cut noodles, which is a larger, thicker, and chewier type of noodle. The other type of noodle is the hand pulled noodle, which is your thin noodles. The pan fried dumplings with pork were your typical fried dumplings and were okay. The beef stewed noodle soup was pretty good. My wife enjoyed the knife cut noodles and the soupy base. One thing that I noticed with this dish was that there were a good amount of pickled vegetables within the broth, which my wife also enjoyed. The Dan Dan noodles with hand pulled noodles was definitely the star of the show. Personally, I enjoyed the thin noodles much more than the thicker knife cut noodles. The Dan Dan noodles come with spicy sauce base and peanuts, a combination that was very tasty. Make sure you mix it well before you eat it! On our second visit, we ordered the pan-fried bun with pork, the Mooshu fried noodles, and, of course, the Dan Dan noodles again! The small order of pan fried bun with pork came with six buns. The buns were fried to a nice crisp and it had a generous amount of pork filling. The bread was a bit doughy, though, but definitely worth a try. The Mushu fried noodles were delicious. Looked them up in Yelp and brought my family back to try them out, and immediately liked them. They specialize in handmade noodles, especially knife cut. Though there are several in the SGV, JTYH seems to have that great chewy texture ( or Q ) Add some high heat wok flavor and you got yourself some very tasty noodles. Their soup noodles are also very good, with the same chewy consistency. Besides noodles, they also have handmade dumplings. On a few occasions when we walked in, they're at a table by the kitchen making them. I've tried their stir fried noodles, soup noodles, scallion pancakes, beef rolls and other items, and I've always leave with a happy and full stomach. JTYH is the place to go for some authentic handmade noodles. I hate to say they're a hidden gem but I've only seen them busy once. They share a small parking lot with a meat market next door but usually there's no problem finding a spot. Check their hours on Yelp because they take a break in the afternoons. I ended choosing the thinner, hand stretched noodles (as apposed to the thicker knife cut variety), because it seemed like it would go better in the soup. The noodles were very well done and chewy. I appreciated him for the reminder! Mom was craving for the stir-fried pancake with veggies, a very home-style dish but hard to find in LA. JTYH's stir-fried pancake was delicious!! The lady took my order was very friendly and told me to sit while waiting Bec knife cut noodle will take a while to "cut". My love for knife cut noodle started when I was maybe in college or high school when there's knife cut noodle shop near NTU. But years later I am without motivation to brace the hot humid weather to go out of my way for food. I tried UberEat once but by the time it got to my hand, the noodles were already soggy. Wow this place exceeded my expectations! My so and I shared everything and we still had extra. For appetizers we got the cucumbers and pig ear. There was a lot for a cold side dish which was great. The pig ear was sliced thicker than the other ones I had. It also had cilantro and red bell peppers that added more flavor to the dish. I would definitely recommend the beef roll here. The cucumber beef and cilantro worked so well together with the outside being perfectly flaky and delicious. You can tell the knife cut noodles were handmade. Old school, northern Chinese cuisine from the Shanxi province. They specialize in their knife-cut noodles, with that signature chewiness (yum), but I didn't get a chance to try it yet. Went on a Sunday night with my family, and although they always have guests, it's never packed and we never have to wait, which my family appreciates. This is probably long overdue, but I believe I'm going to go ahead and bump this hole in the wall up to 5 stars ... I feel like this place has really grown on me in the past few years. It probably helps that one of the ladies who works here seems to recognize me when I visit now. :D The value and quality of food here is remarkably high - you still can get a delicious and filling "home-made" meal here for not too much money, even as the fiat printing machine goes "brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr". I stop here not only to dine in, but I am also a *huge* fan of their frozen dumplings that I get to go (to be stashed and later cooked at home - or more often, at work), which are not only still quite affordable (a sack of 50 Pork and Leek dumplings has only increased $1 in price in roughly the last 2 years), but very tasty and filling. These hand-made dumplings (which are produced *in front of you* in the dining area, often as you eat) are definitely of FAR superior quality to the commercially-produced frozen dumplings that are sold at 99 Ranch, GW, and the likes. It seems like every time I visit, there are few to no diners inside (no need to wait in line, relatively quiet and secluded dining environment), and there are always plenty of available parking spaces (no delays in hunting for a spot). This is one of my go to place for dumplings and noodles. My go to dishes are the hot and sour noodles, xiao long bao, beef roll, the mushu noodles and the cucumber appetizer. I don't like the knife cut noodles though since they always splash all over me when it falls off my chopsticks but that's just a personal preference so I go with the regular noodles. Noodles are hand made. I love their hot and sour noodles. Its different than the typical hot and sour soup and isn't that oily szechuan stuff. Xiao long bao is soupy, beef roll has lots of flavor and refreshing cause they put a lot of cucumbers and they stir fry the wrap and not fry like other restaurants. Frying the wrap makes the roll in general hard. The mushu noodles is noodles cooked with eggs, black fungus. Something I haven't seen at any other noodle restaurant in the SGV. This is family run restaurant. Service is good. They have a small parking lot. They have a $25 minimum for credit card. Also, they just renovated last week and the interior looks really really nice. I head out to San Gabriel Valley from the Westside with the wife & kids a few times a month for authentic Chinese food. I'm an immigrant with a mom & a grandma who is/was excellent at cooking Northern Chinese dishes. If you find yourself in the Rosemead-area, I'd recommend a little hole-in-the-wall called JTYH (on Valley Blvd.). They make all of their noodles and dumplings from scratch and you can even buy frozen dumplings to go (around $25 for a bag of 50; I buy 3-4 bags per visit (bring a cooler)). You'll often see the family that runs this restaurant hand-making dumplings and bao at a table in the small dining room. It can be intimidating to go to a new place with unfamiliar food, so I'll make a few recs. Try the cat ear mushu (no, not real cat ears, silly- the hand-made pasta resembles an ear), the three-ingredient dumplings (pan-fried), the fried pork buns, and the knife-cut noodles with lamb. I really do love their food. But sometimes they really do take forever.. We ALLLLWAYS get their mushu cat ears. It's tiny pieces of dough that curl and look like cat (kitty) ears but literally freaks people out cuz of the name. The noodles are stir fried in a soy sauce base and topped with eggs scrambled with veggies and meat. Always a hit! We also get their simmer soup with knife cut noodles, pan fried buns (juicy goodness with crispy bottoms), and ask what veggies they have if we feel like being healthy. The exterior is an extremely unassuming little noodle shop, but the flavor and texture of the noodles/ dumplings packs a punch. I have been on a hunt for good handmade noodles and decided to give this place a shot. Came on a quiet Monday and there was one other table. The Dan Dan noodles and Zajiang Mien were delicious- perfectly spiced and a hint of mala on the former. We also got the beef noodle soup which was really good as well. I spied a regional specialty on their menu- handmade "Cat Ears" noodles (basically the Asian version of orecchiette pasta) . Staying true to the recommendations from others, we got: * beef rolls * fried pork dumplings * beef fried noodles with shacha sauce * mooshu cat ears The beef rolls here stood out to me because 1) they include cucumbers, which made it a bit more refreshing, and 2) the roll is not fried like other places. The pork dumplings were plump and fat and completely what we expect from fried dumplings (we had super tiny, expensive, and disappointing pan fried dumplings somewhere the day before)! So worth the money! I love shacha sauce (it goes great with everything from KBBQ dipping sauce to noodles!), so the fried noodles dish was already a winner from the first bite. The mooshu cat ears are so unique! It's not your typical Chinese noodles dish, but I loved it regardless. All four items kept BF and I full for dinner and I had enough to last me for breakfast and lunch for 4 days. Total cost was under $40 too, so you definitely get a good value for your money! I don't recall if they take credit card, but we paid cash, since that's our default payment method at mom and pop shops right now to save them on credit card processing fees (doing what we can to help from our end!). read more
