It's been a hot minute since I've been to JTYH & not sure why I stopped coming. It was a typically hot winter day and I wanted some cold noodles. DELICIOUS! First time I got it here. It's a mix of Taiwanese (usually peanut-based sauce) and Chinese (usually vinegar-y sauce) cold noodles. I didn't even get the knife-cut noodles, just "regular" noodles AND it was STILL so amazing. The texture was PERFECT - so Q. Also got a plate of dumplings w/ pork & celery. I don't usually like dumplings with celery but it was pretty tasty here! What was super surprising is that they also had the liang fen cold dish. Usually, this is served at Yunnan restaurants but like the twist on the cold noodle, it wasn't just soy sauce & chilli, they added some additional flavor that made the texture almost like sacha sauce (a paste usually eaten with hot pot) and also a bit tangy. I live the cold dishes here! I always get the green bean jello, the beef slices, and the pickled cucumbers. It's really refreshing and free each time I get it. This place needs more publicity! They have so flavorful dishes here, very authentic. Their known for their "knife shredded" noodles which is is basically handmade noodles that are cut into wide, chewy strips. All their noodle is handmade , which is why it IS QQ and chewy. I love their stewed beef and tendon noodle soup with regular handpulled noodles. Very flavorful broth and delicious noodles. I also really like their mushy fried noodles with the knife shredded noodles. SUPER FLAVORFUL with veggies, chicken, and egg mixed in. They also sell handmade dumplings. My favorite is the fish dumplings. This is my favorite place for fish dumplings. I haven't been back for some time, but after writing this review, I plan to make a trip back there soon! read more

So I heard about this place because of a dish called Mushu "cat ears" where the noodles, instead of straight n long, are triangle-shaped. When i tried it, to me its texture had a sort of rice cake consistency, but it was yummy all the same! Got some fried tofu n some cucumber salad too! My staple appetizers whenever I try new places. They are located down the way from Rosemead High School, just past the Starbucks that used to be a Taco Bell. My only peeve was that although I called my order in, and waited the typical 20-25 mins before heading over there, the food was not ready. When I had initially called, I told her what I wanted and the phone went click. No 'can I have your name?' Or 'come in 20 mins' nothing. When I got there and told her what I had ordered, she went in the back for an extended amount of time. I was there standing for about 10 to 15 mins. Nobody else was waiting but me. My impression was maybe she didnt actually take my order when I called, and had done it from scratch the moment I got there. This is another hole-in-the-wall athentic taste of northern China cusine. Walking into the restaurant at 6pm on a thursday I only saw one other table seated. Granted this is still a new place. I also noticed a couple of employees hand wrapping dumplings in the small dining area too. The noodles are hand made and fresh! The "knife cut noodles" are a rarity and wonderfuly prepared. Superb! As a foreign expat who had spent over a decade in mainland China, I can confidently and without any doubt say that the dumplings here are the real deal. Anyone who lives in Los Angeles or the surrounding area should definitely come here and try their hand made dumplings or do what I did and take the 'to go and cook it at home' version. Since my parents are too old to come visit me in China, I decided to choose a place I could find authentic hand made Chinese dumplings to go so that they can enjoy the amazingness I had known in my time in China. These dumplings are fresh, made with the freshest ingredients, we're juicy enough and not made with any additives which makes it a very healthy option, especially for the elderly. We all loved it. This place was hidden next to a meat market. The lights kinda don't work on the exterior, so I didn't know it was there until someone told me about it. They have a variety of dumplings, noodles, baos and meat entrees. We ordered 5 items, totaling about $60. The food was okay, not the greatest, not the worst. It was just decent but not good enough for me to return. Pan fried bao w pork - these were good, it's better to dip them with vinegar sauce. A large size came w 10 pieces. Beef wrap - I loved the interior, the plentiful cucumbers, cilantro and beef. BUT I disliked the wrapping. So hard core. The exterior scent reminded me of canola oil. And it wasn't flaky or pan fried like how I'm normally used to. Sichuan fish - several people liked this fish, it was too oily for me and kinda salty. But that's supposed to be the style. Dan Dan noodle - I liked this the best of all. It was decently flavored with spice and had enough bokchoy and minced beef. Knife cut chicken stir fry noodle - dang I loved the noodles in this dish! It was chewy and soft. Unfortunately, there wasn't much sauce to add to the flavor. It was a bit bland. If anything, I'd return to buy a bag of frozen dumplings. They sell a bag of 40...? Truly unique noodles, styles, and flavors are found here! Great, friendly service is also found here. We got cold dishes, noodle soups, pan fried dumplings - huuuuge, dumplings, and the beef roll. All of it was delicious. We loved the mooshu "cat ears" the most because the consistency and mixture of ingredients were perfect. The lamb noodle soup was good too. The knife-cut noodles were also very good. I like the texture and the chewiness of it. It is a smaller shop, so there could be a wait, but ww got there at an odd time. Cold fried tofu and beef tendon noodle soup were pretty whatever and bland. Boba milk tea is BOGO, at 2.50. Pretty good, the boba was good and the milk tea was fresh and made from real tea if my palate is correct. Lamb fried noodles were pretty good and the xiu long bao wasn't too bad for the price of $6 as well... Overall, the place is very authentic and clean but does have a little problem with quick attentive service as we had our order slightly messed up and the food came very slowly. JYTH Restaurant is a good place for noodles. The hand cut noodles in soup resemble sort of a chow fun styled look and feel, which is really good. We had it in the beef tendon with beef soup. Generally speaking, the "beef stew" (beef tendon) soup is the best to get if you like the broth flavorful at most restaurants. The other noodles we tried, The Dan Dan Noodles were okay, I'm not a huge fan of spice ('tho these were not so spicy hot). The pot stickers, fried pork dumplings were really good, and I'd say are "must orders" when returning here. The service is fast and friendly. This place gets crowds in waves, and also the tables turn over very fast too, so the wait doesn't seem so long. Parking is easy, there's a lot. This mom & pop lacks any atmosphere but service was friendly and helpful and for the amount we ordered the price was very reasonable. We ordered the pan fried pork dumplings - these were huge! Fluffy and crispy Mushu cat ears - the favorite! Perfectly seasoned, old school comfort Beef cut noodles in shacha sauce - the noodles are how they should be, thick & chewy. Could use a little a touch of heat or salt but that's an easy fix with condiments on the table. Fish & leek boiled dumplings - not bad but I've definitely had better so maybe pass on these. Came back to JTYH for the first time in months and the food is EVEN BETTER THAN I REMEMBER?! Got the boiled pork and cabbage dumplings, mala spicy beef noodle soup with knife sliced noodles, and mooshoo "cat ears". - Their dumplings are even better than my mom's (although I'll never tell her the truth). Juicy meat filling expertly wrapped in handmade dough wrappers - it has such great flavor that you really don't need any seasoning, but I like to dip mine in a soy sauce + vinegar mixture for that extra umami. - I'm Taiwanese and I've tried about every single beef noodle soup place in and around LA. Believe me when I say JTYH has the best beef noodle soup I've ever had outside of Taiwan, and honestly better than many popular restaurants in Taiwan. Their knife-sliced noodles are thicc and chewy - just to die for. I usually get the braised beef noodle soup here, but decided to opt for the mala version today and it was SO GOOD. - I tried mooshoo "cat ears" for the first time here several years ago and I was hooked. They're not actual cat ears, just dough shaped like them. I'm a sucker for texture, and this dish is the perfect marriage of different textures: chewy "cat ears" + crunchy cabbage and wood ear fungus + soft scrambled eggs. The sauce they toss the "cat ears" in is like crack - if they sold it in a jar I would buy it and use it in all of my stir frys. Service here was pretty slow since they have one guy greeting people, seating, taking orders, taking to go orders, and food running. Can't blame the guy for running a one man show. Aside from that, the knife cut noodles were pretty delicious! We ordered the Beef Roll and Mung Bean Jelly in Chili apps - both which were delicious. Of the two soup noodles we had, I definitely preferred the beef noodle soup with knife cut noodles. On a Saturday mid afternoon, my date and I meandered through San Gabriel Valley to locate JTYH. He likes chow mein and my attempts of locating a epicurean chow mein destination have been embarrassingly futile. I began to experience a mild identity crisis as a Yelper. But alas, JTYH has reestablished my true identity as a foodie. The chow mein was delectable. The spicy lamb riblets were not spicy at all although adorned with copious amount of chili peppers. This dish was equally delicious. The pan fried dumplings had a plethora of meat, and was very flavorful. There's a complimentary cold appetizer for checking in. the food is still just okay.. but 1 more star for the price and the amount they give you and because it's just so close to my house. came w/ the parents for lunch on saturday i ordered the spicy wonton but it was not spicy at all (but then again, that all depends on the how much you can handle spicyness). One of the many noodle shops in the 626, this particular one lures its customers with clever preparation techniques such as the knife shaven noodles(aka DAO XIAO) and hand pulled noodles. In a world of pho and ramen noodles, these traditional Chinese practices are almost a lost art. People just don't appreciate the Chinese noodles anymore. And I think I know why! Just like any Chinese restaurant, it pretty dang hard to know what to order at a place like this without yelp. If I wasn't Chinese, I'd so lost and don't think the staff is 100% up to par with English department. I mean the menu is in English as well, but how do you know which one is good? Cuz in English they all sound kinda similar. Isn't noodle just noodles? Nope! Here's my tip, look at a free recommendations from your fellow yelpers, and look at the pictures. If you are feeling lucky, go ahead and roll those dice. Being a Shan Dong style restaurant, and a northern providence of China, the specialty here is obviously the noodles. Don't be fooled by pop culture and it's impression of noodles. Because it is not what you think! Also all their dumpling and meat buns look really good too. Next time I'm going to have to bring more people with me so I can taste more food here. They all look so good and appetizing. Here is what I ordered: Beef and tendon soup with the hand pulled noodles(aka LA MIAN or MIEN which translate into RAMEN in Japanese). A good mix of beef and tendon, well seasoned, garnished with spinach and cilantro. You can make it spicy by adding hot sauce by yourself. Lamb soup with the knife shaven noodles(its kinda like flat hand pulled noodles . The hero in this bowl was the noodles. But I was kind of disappointed that it was not as sturdy as I had thought. There were some noodle that was too thin and just broke apart in the soup. This dish was garnished with spinach, cilantro, tofu slices, and slices of lamb meat. The broth was a bit too salty for my sensitive receptors for saltiness. I was a bit under the weather, and those receptors just become more sensitive when I am sick. But I did finish with a smile. This bowl of noodles is really food for the soul. The warmth just goes right through you. I will warn you that this lamb noodle soup is quite gamy. If you do not like the gaminess of lamb, stay away. Unlike the Vietnamese Pho or the Japanese ramen, this isn't anything exotic or special about Chinese noodles. But these aren't the processed Chinese noodles you find at other restaurants where you would find dishes like CHOW MEIN. These are freshly made noodles from flour and water. This is the type of stuff you would find if you came over to a Chinese person's house to dine. It's what the Chinese people have eaten for thousands of years. I saw JTYH listed in an article about the best handmade Chinese noodles in LA (#3 on the list), and decided to pay them a visit since I'm a sucker for handmade noodles. Here's what we tried: Spicy wontons: Good... but I compare all spicy wontons to the ones at A&J, and none have measured up (so far). Beef noodle soup with hand shaved noodles: The noodles were thick and chewy, the beef was tender and plentiful, but I found the broth a little bland. Beef Roll: A little heavy on the hoisin sauce but otherwise well executed and a hefty portion. Dan Dan Mien: I love dan dan noodles! We opted for hand made noodles for this dish (instead of hand shaved), which meant the noodles were a little thinner but still had a good chew. The sauce was different from other dan dan noodles I've tried, and contained some Szechuan peppercorns which provided a hint of ma la (numbing sensation). We popped over to JTYH one weekend morning wanting to try a new Chinese restaurant. Our favorite dish of the morning were the fried pork dumplings. They were not thin and flat like some ziaozhi. They were boulders of dumplings with the most insanely beautiful crispy bottom and pork juice spilling out. We preferred them over the boiled pork and pickled cabbage dumplings. The homemade noodles with house sauce was a huge disappointment for me. The noodles themselves were thick and cumbersome and the house sauce tasted like canned shacha sauce thinned with soy and tossed with scallions. JTYH is actually better know for its knife-cut noodles so I'd easily return and try another noodle dish. Sometimes, we just jab at dishes off the menu and see what happens. The winner of that game happened to be the chicken and egg appetizer. Whatever we thought it was, we did not anticipate the cold Chinese salad of cold shredded chicken, julienne cucumber, wood ear mushrooms, julienne fried egg, Chinese hot mustard, and slippery strips of gelatinous starch. It was a huge portion, served on a round pyrex pie dish and meant for a much larger party. It would have been refreshing on a hot summer day and John, who's shied away from that kind of dish before, readily dug in. Chinese people I tell ya, they love deals. It feels like swamp meet fever when you buy or sell something with the Chinese people. Oh wait, I speak the dialect. I too like to haggle a bit just to remind myself that I too have that bit of Chinese in my blood. Well, the opportunity came about after I entered this place this past Sunday. Small place, almost missed it when traveling eastbound on Valley. Yes, thanks to Tony C and his blogsite http://sinosoul.com/ , once again I spending more than I wanted to, but in a good way. Read on. I came here wanting only 2 items, a bag of 50 frozen dumplings , which they had for $15 and a beef roll ($5.99) to go. So what happened? I ended up talking to the lady owner and she noticed that I spoke Chinese (not that it really makes that much of a difference I think) and she told me that if I buy two bags, I get one free. OH MAN. She then added that she rolled these dough herself and wrapped them too. I took a look and sure enough, there are a lot of imperfections on the shape of the dumplings that they do look like it's homemade. I have never been here. I was worried. I didn't know how good this place was since they were really only known for noodles. I first asked for a sample, and tried to haggle with her. But eventually, I took the plunge and all three bags. Since the frozen dumplings are not a cooked item, I was able to save a little bit of money....umm...the Chinese way. Lets just say I didn't use a "shin yon card" for those of you who speaks the dialect. Upon getting home, I cooked the dumplings. They dough are a bit thicker than I expected and used to. So make sure you cook these a bit longer than usual. They plump up to almost more than 1/2 the frozen size. I tried out the leek dumplings which is one of my favorite. It wasn't bad and for the price, you do get what you paid for and more. It has a ginger/slight leek after taste. I can't wait to open up the bag of cabbage and the sour cabbage ones too. Celery appetizer: Crunchy, flavorful. What a great way to get my daily doses of veggies. Dumpling noodle soup is very homey: The dumplings are plump and juicy, the broth simple and yummy. The star of the restaurant- Niu Rou Mian (beef noodle). This is the real deal- knife shaved noodles, flavorful broth and beef so tender it melts in your mouth. I wanted to lick the bowl when I was done. Oh wait, I did. Service was fine by Chinese restaurant standards. The crappier the service the better the food, right? Great meal for 2 for about 10 bucks. Ambiance: Casual, small, maybe fits a total of 25 people in the whole restaurant, usually not air conditioned but they do have blinds and fans. It's not too hot. The employees are sweet and nice, they speak English well enough for me to communicate with them! They help you order, pick the right dishes, and get your food fast! Food: Go-to items Pork dumplings - these are so incredible, crispy on one side, soft and juicy in the middle - if you eat them right away, the juices inside might burn your tongue! They are my favorite fried dumplings out of anywhere but are comparable to 101 Noodle. Beef Noodle Soup - such comfort food, usually tendony/ fatty meat which is good, you can pick knife shaved or hand pulled noodles. Knife shaved noodles give me some trouble eating them with chopsticks, but I'm also not a pro-chopstick user. Broth has vinegar, cilantro, ginger and is great! Beef Roll - this is HANDS DOWN my favorite beef roll I've had - for me the trick is the cucumbers and veggies they put inside that really balance out the fried outside. Of course, that means there is less beef than other places, but I really don't mind. The crunch of the veggies is amazing. Mushu Cat Ears - They aren't real cat ears, just little circular noodles, shaped like a thumbprint. They are flavored with soy sauce and have eggs with veggies on top. It's really the ultimate comfort food and really hits the spot for me. It's soft and warm and great. other things I've tried Lamb noodles - I had these handpulled and really loved them. Sometimes lamb things are too gamey for me, but this was really great. there isn't a lot of lamb, there is cabbage and some other veggies - but really yummy, will get again. Chili oil wontons - these are in dessert menu which I don't understand, but they are really yummy. They are boiled wonton dumplings in a bowl with chili oil. Not even deathly spicy! Fried buns - these are yummy, but kind of big to get in addition to all of my go-to things. The meat is good inside, but the bread part can get kind of dry. Pros: - I've been coming here for at least 6 years now, and even before when they were in Monterey Park, it's small but can seat an adequate amount of people - I'm a huge knife cut noodle fan, probably my favorite food in the universe, and this place specializes in just that! With any kind of meat or veggie (depending on your preference). I love that the food is authentic-tasting here - It's very affordable since it's in Rosemead, which is right by SGV, which is the land of heavenly Chinese eats for good prices - There's a lady who's been working there as long as I've been going and she's always the nicest and sometimes will give me free veggie appetizers - Parking has never been an issue, yay for private lots and free parking! What's up with their ice water?? I saw other yelpers mentioned it tasted like chlorine in it and I personally tasted it too. I had to ask for hot tea instead. Plain nasty. Now onto the food. People raved about the hand cut beef noodle, so I tried. The Beef soup was not as greasy as others, it is more on the lighter side, which can be a good/bad thing since the taste aren't as strong (not BEEFY enough, IMHO). The beef is abundant in portion, but the beef is a bit too red. They need to simmered in the juice/soup longer to create that dark brown color, and the noodle, is a bit too soft when its in the soup. I saw most customers ordered fried rice and fried noodles, I realized why when I tasted beef noodle. I have also tried their steamed dumplings. I liked the fact that they hand made their dumpling skin, and the fillings were made from good quality meats and seafoods. However, the dumplings were as juicy as others that I have experienced. I give a 3* rating but I am not hesitate to return to try more items. I've only been here once but it's my new favorite restaurant in the area! I want to come back and try everything! Lamb with cumin... or what I like to call them....Lamb Lollipops! So GOOD!!! I am a big fan of cumin so if you are too, you will enjoy this one. I want to come back mainly for this dish. Beef Rolls.. definitely the best I've had so far. I didn't even feel the need to add any sauce unlike ones I've tried at other restaurants. Knife cut mooshu noodles... I love a chewy noodle and this did not disappoint. Try try try! We also ordered a vegetable dish... no idea what it's called, but it's the vinegar based stir-fry cabbage one... portion is huge! Very vinegar-y though, so beware. I came here awhile ago with my family. This place is located next to Taco Bell in a weird location for an Asian food joint. But nonetheless, this place wasn't disappointing at all! We ordered the dumplings and some noodles-- and they were both delicious. The dumplings were hot, crispy (if fried), and juicy-- which are how dumplings should be. On top of that, the noodles are steamy and flavorful. On the other hand, service might be troublesome if you do not speak Cantonese. But since my family speaks Cantonese, service was not a problem. As for pricing, it's pretty cheap-- nothing too extravagant since the interior is looks more like a Chinese take-out joint. Having said, I would definitely come here again soon when I'm craving dumplings. Rarely a Chinese restaurant win my heart, but this one did. Everything here is delicious! The noodles are perfectly cut, just like the ones in China! And the cold dishes are soooooo good, b/c I love cold dishes from the Northern China. It just taste the same! Everything tasted great and the dumplings are good too. Quality has gone down since it first opened a few years ago. Though, service has been consistently bad, rude, and unapologetic. Hearty food and super oily food - literally, every order will be dripping in grease, including the cold cucumber side dish - taste carefully. We ordered the fish fillet in black bean sauce and instead was served the Sichuan spicy fish fillet. When we brought this to their attention, they refused to admit their mistake and said that this RED dish was indeed the BLACK bean fish. They were so gangster about it that we didn't even bother to argue. Cat ears - chewy and doughy and yummy, so you ask what's not to love? the unctuous fat and grease that coat these suckers. Continuing my lamb raid across our town, I decided to stop by here after a late night at work. This is actually my 2nd time at this place-- the first time I had the lamb noodle soup with the hand cut noodle which was spot on especially for those of you who like the thicker chewy hand cut style noodles and lamb. Came back to try the spicy cumin lamb ribs. Super rich spice in flavor and heat. However, the meat on these bad boys are a little thin, so you won't exact get that rack of ribs fullness.
