It was early on a Saturday night that my husband and I found ourselves out at the beach and hungry. We are always up for sushi, so on the recommendation of a friend, we stopped in. It was busy but not loud. We had a very nice meal and I can tell you it was the most beautiful presentation of sushi I have ever seen. We ordered several cooked rolls: California, a salmon and cream cheese roll, a spider roll and something that we thought was supposed to be "flamed" at the table (it was not, but it was still tasty!). Overall the food was visually appealing but I didn't care for the taste. The clear soup was more of a brown/broth color and the mushrooms didn't seem cooked. I tried the lava roll, and while I usually enjoy the crunchies, these were all stuffed together in the roll instead of sprinkled throughout. The gyoza and my cocktail were the only things that I found to be wonderful. It was one of their special cocktails with cranberry juice and pineapple (I requested to go easy on the pineapple). My family had dinner at this restaurant the other day. Everything on the outside is nice and clean. The inside had a darkness with neon lights going on. The tables and chairs had lots of wear and tear. The service we got was fast and friendly. She had answers to all our questions. She did not ignore her other tables and still kept checking on us. Came here for a Friday night dinner with a girlfriend the other night. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who lives here in Jacksonville. I am so glad I took the time to try this new place. Our waiter was quick and attentive. The restaurant had an extensive drink menu and I recommend the 86. I started off with miso soup, The soup tasted very freshly made and was such a nice starter. For my main entrée I chose the yummy roll. I find the name it's self to be pretty explanatory. The roll was so scrumptious! Usually I'm not one to finish every bite of my sushi but I totally did with this one! Ingredients were fresh and it was so delicious! We were ushered into one of their private eating areas that required us to remove our shoes, to climb into a booth, and to sit on cushions around a wooden table. The seating area added to the authenticity of the place. Three of us split the "Love Boat for 3" ($64), which was impressively presented in a wooden display in the shape of a boat. Sushi rolls were beautifully plated and the sashimi was displayed in ice. The fish was so fresh that it basically melted in our mouthes and the rolls were hearty and well-prepared, and the sauces topping them were delicious. Each of us also got a choice of soup or salad. Others at the table got sushi, which they enjoyed as well. Oh my gosh, I had read reviews of Kamiya and thought, I need to try it, but I was not prepared for how nice the interior was furnished. There were private tables along the wall which create a nice intimate date, back lit bar top and overall more of a feeling of South Beach than Jacksonville Beach. We went at night. The outside looks average, but when you get inside, it looks really nice. It's a combination of an Asian restaurant and a sports bar. They have this big open closet looking areas where they have a table and you dine together Japanese style. You take your shoes off and gather around with your friends and family. I would say it can fit 8 people comfortably. We had the shrimp pad thai, pineapple shrimp thai fried rice, shrimp red curry, and sizzling mongolian beef. Great sushi too! Very good and tasty! Kimaya offers a great experience that everyone must try. After reading a multitude of posity and negative reviewed I went in with an open mind. The inside is nice and very clean. The bar is nice and colorful; it gives the restaurant an upscale look. You can choose to sit at a table or booth or have an even more authentic experience in a ground level table where you sit around with your shoes off in a semiprivate room. The menu offers a true fusion of flavors from Chinese to Thai to Japanese and more. We started out with spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail rolls. This possibly could be the best sushi I've had in Jacksonville. Each piece was huge stuffed with fresh fish. The ginger, even though I don't eat it, looked extremely fresh and tasted the same apparently. The rolls were so big I only ate a little bit of my meal. I opted for the Singapore rice noodles which was great. The perfect amount of curry flavor with veggies, chicken, and jumbo shrimp. The entrees are very fairly priced and the food is plentiful. While waiting for our food, the wait wasn't long and the service was great, we were checking out the sushi plates as they came out. The artistic layout of the boats coming out we're great and took the sushi dining experience to the next level. We waited a while to try it out but won't wait a while to come back. We ordered the sashimi deluxe and the crispy shrimp sushi bar appetizer. We ordered from the Jax Beach location because we live in Ponte Vedra and it was closest. When we got there, the hostess told us we came to the wrong location and to go to the Neptune Beach location, which is 10 minutes further north. When we got to the Neptune Beach location, they told us the Jax Beach location had just called to say they actually did have our order. The hostess was super apologetic, and we headed back to Jax Beach. When we got back to the Jax Beach location, the hostess didn't apologize at all or offer to give us any type of discount. It was $35 before tip, and when we got home, they had given us the wrong shrimp appetizer. They gave us the $7 coconut shrimp appetizer but still charged us for the $8.50 one. It took us over an hour to get our dinner, which should have taken 15 minutes. Pretty disappointing. read more

If you haven't ever been here you need to go. This business has been growing for a reason. I've been a regular pre and post the pandemic. Worth the drive. The rolls are always fresh and delicious! A few of my favorite specialty rolls are the green dragon, Spark of Love Roll, Tiger eyes roll, and the lava roll. The hand rolls are good too. I also had their love boat which was good. It's rare that I get the unusually long lunch, so I figured why not check this place out, as I have been wanting to do so for a while. I've heard pretty good things... The decor has a nice, modern feel to it. The room was dim enough for an intimate date night, but bright enough for a good group dinner out. I liked the array of color lights that lined the walls and the bar, with some light switching between colors. Very cool vibe. My server was excellent; she did a great job of checking up on me, making sure my water was filled, etc., so definitely no complaints there. As far as the food, it was pretty tasty. The clear soup that comes with the meal was amazingly flavorful. At other places, it's been kind of a dull broth, but the soup here had a heartier flavor to it. Wasn't sure, but almost seemed like they added a beef or pork bouillon to the broth...whatever it was, it was good! I ordered a spring roll appetizer to start off. It was very good, but definitely larger than I would normally see, as it was packed full of veggies. Add the fact that I had three of them to finish (I forgot that it was pretty much a shareable plate), and that alone would have made for a decent fill. But of course, I had to make sure I got some sushi. Went with the 2-roll lunch special, got the Super California Roll and the Salmon Avocado roll. I'm not gonna say that they were anything to write home about (as these are some of the more common rolls), but my sushi tasted notably fresher than some of the other places I have been, so I don't think quality is an issue here. I was kind of disappointed that some of my Super California Roll pieces fell apart, but I attribute it to so much ingredients inside weighing it down, haha! Overall, it was quite good. I can only imagine how good the House Specials and Chef's Recommendations are (the descriptions sounded awesome), so you know a second trip has to be in order. And of course, I finished it off with a little dessert. Tuxedo bombe was in full effect, as it looked and sounded pretty good on the menu. And it did not disappoint - a sweet combination of different mousses and ganaches, served with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkles next to a "tree" of flavored gels...great finish to my meal! On other thing of note: Presentation is key, and from the soup to dessert, this was some of the best plated food that I have ever had! All in all, I'd recommend this spot. There can be an element of intimacy but also a bit impersonal depending on where you're seated. The bar is nice. You can see the sushi chefs preparing the sushi meals. The waiters/waitresses are polite. The food is good and the portion sizes are nice.
