The vegetable gyoza is tasty. It wasn't busy that day. They have a clean restaurant. It satisfied my taste buds for the moment.

Pork Belly Curry Plate. Great curry. Dry pork belly.

Came across this cute little place inside Rodeo 39. As someone who's always on the hunt for yummy Japanese curry, I just had to give it a try. With several protein options available, I asked the young lady working there for her favorites, and she recommended the pork belly. The good: the curry itself is amazing! Love everything about it, even the slight kick of spiciness! The bad: the pork belly was so dry, hard and lacked any flavor! Also, the menu pics sort of made it look like they'd come breaded. So disappointed. I still believe this would've been amazing with any other protein, e.g. chicken katsu, spam katsu (hopefully), because the curry base is pretty incredible. However, that's difficult to say and rate presently because of the super dry pork belly and the young lady working there said it was her favorite. Will update if and when I find myself in the area and jonesing for their Japanese curry!

Ordered takeout so cannot comment on service or ambience but I got the beef belly curry and furikake fries. Beef belly with curry was super good and fries were seasoned nicely. Will be back.

Stopped into rodeo39 for the first time and decided to try Kare. Really great portion for the price and the curry flavor was sooo rich and the right balance of spice, texture and thickness. Can't go wrong!

I love a good Japanese curry, so when I saw Kare inside of Rodeo 39 Public Market, I wanted to give it a try. Each plate comes with rice, curry, and fukujinzuke (red pickles) along with your choice of protein. I can't say no to shrimp tempura, so I got a plate of that. It comes with five pieces of shrimp. I also tried some of the pork belly plate, which I thought was unique, as I haven't seen pork belly, specifically, paired with curry before! It was pretty tender and went well with the curry sauce. For a side, they have Curry Fries, which is basically just regular fries with a side of curry sauce for dipping. Fun to eat and yummy!

My friend and I were walking around Rodeo 39 and decided on this place! We ordered on a kiosk and the food came out really quickly. I was a klutz and accidentally dropped my utensils while bringing my food to the table. It was super embarrassing and honestly I was just gonna walk away shamefully and wipe the spoon and use it anyway, but the nice worker had already grabbed me a new one. We were able to sit at a table nearby since we came on a weekday and it wasn't as busy. They played mostly pop music while we were there yapping and it was a great vibe! The curry itself was pretty good and slightly spicy, which I enjoyed. I thought the chicken katsu was pretty bland and flavorless, but fortunately the curry was packed with flavor so I didn't mind as much. I really enjoyed the side of shrimp tempura and felt like it was definitely better seasoned than the katsu. The proportions were really good and I liked that the curry was in a separate container so my katsu didn't get soggy.

pork belly: grilled pork belly, white rice, curry, pickled radish + green onions = $15

The curry is quite good here. I tried it in two forms: -chicken katsu ($14.00): fried chicken katsu, white rice, curry, pickled radish + green onions -pork belly ($15.00): grilled pork belly, white rice, curry, pickled radish + green onions To be honest, I didn't read the descriptions and instead relied on the picture menu. Based on pictures, I thought the pork belly was breaded. Boy was I wrong. You get 4 generous pieces of grilled pork belly. Pairing it with curry is interesting. Not bad, but not familiar, so I liked it okay. The chicken katsu on the hand was great. I'd definitely order that again. This place is great if you're in the mood for curry.

This is close to where I live, so it's my to go to place whenever I'm craving for chicken or pork curry katsu. The service is very quick, and when ordering now, they have self ordering using touch screen. Don't worry if you don't know how to use or how to order, there will be a person standing in the front kiosk to help you. The chicken filet meat they used is white meat, and yet still tender and juicy. The crispy ness is good, the curry sauce is also taste really good. Portion wise is good with the price. But as for me to get a miso soup for $3, is not worth it. It comes in a small cup, the flavor for me is a bit water down, and the seaweed and tofu is very little, so basically is just a broth soup. So the place is inside the food court. And they have move suites from the old one, where before used to be on the left side from the stage, now it's the opposite side, which is the left side of the stage, closer to the tattoo store in the back (where the Filipino fusion store used to be) The atmosphere at night & weekend will be very loud, because on the stage there's always something going on, from karaoke night, trivia night, a live band or a sporting events. So seating could be a challenge, but you can always find one. So it is good for a big groups, and plenty of variety of foods at this place and also there's a bar that serves alcohol.

Great food and customer service. Cashier Bryan was very kind, and helped me pick out a meal as it was my first time there. Looking forward to coming back again! (Sorry to the cashier if I spelled your name wrong.)

Delicious, good price, quick. Katsu is super crispy and curry comes on the side. 12/10 stars would recommend.

Solid food and i love how they don't have option to tip! I would tip for just for that! Anyways first time at the public market and I chose this to satiate my cravings after a hard workout. I got the fried chicken gyoza plate with a side of fried egg. They also give you a side of chili powder to add which is a must bc I like my curry with a spicy kick. Service is quick but also there was no crowd on a Tuesday late afternoon. For $16 I'd say it's pricey but it's a no frills no hassle place so I could imagine myself coming back if I were in the area and looking for a quick eat.

Newest addiction! We are obsessed with the beef belly curry from here. The beef is extra tender and they make sure to load your bowl with plenty of it. The curry is savory and pairs perfectly with the beef belly and rice. Great bang for the buck. You can easily make two meals out of a single order. Love it here!!

Beef belly curry rice was so good. Think of a yoshinoya beef bowl but elevated... the onions to meat ratio was 1:1 and the meat tasted like it was of high quality and not too fatty. Paired with the japanese curry brought it to the next level. We enjoyed it with the side of red pickled radishes.

We started with the shishito peppers and takoyaki, and the takoyaki was easily some of the best we've had. It came out piping hot, perfectly crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy inside. Since it was such a hot day, we ordered the Hiyashi Chuka (chilled ramen) and the Oroshi Soba Combo with grated radish and tempura. Both were super refreshing and exactly what we were craving. The Hiyashi Chuka had a great balance of flavors with fresh toppings, and the soba was light, chewy, and paired really well with the crispy tempura. The hot tea was a nice touch, and everyone working there was friendly and welcoming. We also loved how extensive the menu is. From the moment mine companions and I crossed the threshold, we were greeted with warmth and cheer, as though we were cherished guests returning home from a long and weary journey. Upon our departure, the farewells were equally heartfelt, leaving us with the feeling that we had dined not amongst strangers, but amongst dear friends. The atmosphere within was calm and comforting, familiar in a way that soothed the soul. In a world filled with noisy feasting halls and chaotic marketplaces, this establishment stood as a peaceful sanctuary where one might rest and enjoy a most noble meal. The serving folk were nothing short of extraordinary. Attentive without hovering, quick of wit, and brimming with personality, they carried themselves with the sort of genuine hospitality that cannot be taught by any guild or academy. Every interaction felt sincere and full of heart. Now, let us speak of the pan-fried gyoza, for I fear words alone may fail to capture its greatness. These glorious parcels arrived golden and crisp upon the outside, yet tender and delicate within. Each bite tasted as though it had been crafted by hand moments before reaching the table. Were I granted a chest of gold, I would gladly spend it all upon another plate. And lo! The White Peach Seltzer. Good people, I have sampled beverages from many corners of the kingdom, from noble feasts to humble roadside inns, and never in my years have I encountered a seltzer so divine. It was refreshing beyond measure, kissed with the perfect essence of white peach. Had a celestial spring existed in the heavens themselves, I imagine it would taste much the same. Perhaps most admirable of all was the story behind this fine establishment. The keepers spoke of their history and journey with such authenticity and pride that one could not help but feel invested in their success. Nothing felt rehearsed or hollow; their passion was as real as the food upon the table. I departed with a full belly, a joyful heart, and a solemn vow to return many times henceforth. Five royal decrees of approval. "Should destiny guide thee to this ramen house, enter without hesitation. Thy taste buds shall sing songs of victory long after the meal is done."

[Missing noodles, expensive ramen, bad customer service, and no reason to come back.]…read more I visited this restaurant to place a to-go order and picked up my food during a late lunch around 1:40 p.m. I ordered two items, including a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. When I got back to work in Santa Ana and opened my bag around 2:30 p.m., my ramen had NO NOODLES. It was literally just broth and toppings. I called the restaurant expecting a simple apology and a reasonable solution. Instead, the manager would not even speak to me directly and chose to communicate through a waiter the entire time, which made the situation even more frustrating. We went back and forth multiple times with the waiter acting as the middleman. First, they told me I could come back and pick up the missing noodles. That was not realistic. I was already back at work, and it takes me about 25 minutes to get from Fountain Valley to Santa Ana. Driving all the way back for a side of noodles made no sense. So I asked for what seemed like the easiest and most reasonable solution: a complimentary bowl of ramen on my next visit. Instead, I was told no, but they could give me "extra noodles" next time. Extra noodles next time? What exactly was that supposed to do for me when I was sitting there hungry with no actual ramen to eat that day? Then the manager, again through the waiter, said she would personally drive noodles to my job. I even told them that did not make sense because by the time she got there, it would be around 4:30 p.m. At that point, my lunch break would be long over, the ramen would be cold, and all of it would be a waste of my time, her time, restaurant resources, and gas. But I agreed, because at that point it was obvious they really did not want to simply offer me a free bowl of ramen on my next visit. And to be clear, I was not asking for some huge free meal. I was asking to be compensated for the ramen I already paid good money for and did not even receive correctly. For how expensive ramen is, that should not have been a difficult ask. About 10 minutes later, the waiter called back and said the manager would give me a free bowl of ramen next time I came in, which was the exact solution I had suggested from the start. I can only assume she realized how far the drive was and how unnecessary and impractical that solution would have been. Mistakes happen. Forgetting the noodles was one thing. But the way this was handled was unnecessarily difficult, inconvenient, and honestly kind of absurd. I did not ask for a refund. I was looking for an apology and some common-sense customer service. Instead, I got a lot of back-and-forth and a manager who would not even speak to me directly. Kudos to the waiter for doing their best to mediate the situation. Even they thought the situation could of been handled differently by the manager. Very disappointing experience. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to others based on how this situation was handled.

They also allow you to choose from different types of noodles and they have a thick Ramen noodle, which looked so good The edamame was the best garlic edamame I've had in my entire life! But the calamari rings were a little tough and kind of underwhelming I got their crispy pork rice bowl, and the pork was everything you could ever want in crispy pork belly. It was juicy on the inside and super crispy on the outside without being burnt. However , the sauce that came with was really weird for this particular dish. I'm used to eating the Vietnamese version which comes with a salty thin brown sauce usually but this version came with a creamy almost garlic, aïoli type of sauce, and I thought it overpowered the pork too much I also got their crunch roll and there was way too much vinegar, so that was actually pretty disappointing I still like the food enough to want to return to try the Ramen next time, though! I will update next time I come back

At the very least, it has been my favorite chain of Japanese markets, but it stinks how they have just one location in the Bay Area! In fact, across my limited number of trips to SoCal, I've already visited more locations down here than back at home and I have to say - this location may be the newest, but it's also my least favorite one I've been to. Like pretty much every other Mitsuwa I've been to, this location has a cute little food court with a half dozen or so eateries offering a variety of food options - from ramen, udon, and curry rice plates to onigiri, matcha, and Japanese sweets. As for the market, it has all of the usual offerings you would expect - a solid selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, frozen foods, pantry staples, alcohol, snacks, and sections of prepared foods and sushi to choose from. What's more, as a whole, everything here felt so new and clean (which makes sense in hindsight, as it apparently opened only back in November). With all of that having been said, though, it's weird to me how this place still felt a bit...lacking. While you can find a decent mix of things to eat at their food court, it's pretty much limited to three eateries, so don't be surprised to see lines when it's busy. Also, despite how new it is, the market feels smaller than other Mitsuwas I've been to. That's not inherently bad, but pickings felt relatively slim for certain meats and produce we were looking for, as well as their bento boxes and sushi. Granted, it probably didn't help that we were here on a Sunday and the place was packed with customers, but it's not like we stopped in towards the end of the day either. All in all, while I definitely think there are plenty of positives about this location, I'd be lying if I said I was as impressed with this one as I was by their location in Costa Mesa. It's definitely nice how new it is and I would never be opposed to going to any Mitsuwa, but if I lived out this way, it'd be tough not to know whether I'll be able to get everything I need here or if I'll also need to stop off somewhere else. THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

These are the sort of eateries I seek out when I go to Japan as they are affordable, filling, and satisfying. Just as they do in Japan, they have a large display case on the wall which is filled with a couple dozen realistic plastic displays of the various plates they offer. It makes it easy to see what you'll be getting and helps me make a decision. I was there for a late lunch and ordered the pork katsu curry plate and also, for an additional fee, added an omelette on top of the rice (omu-curry). I was given a pager by the friendly fellow at the counter and my meal was made in less than ten minutes. I sat and ate in the clean, comfortable food court. The pork was good quality, very tender, with a crunchy panko coating. The rice was done perfectly and the omelette on top was delicious with a buttery taste and soft texture. I loved the curry; it had excellent flavor and complemented the pork well. There were also some slices of hard-boiled egg and some bits of radish on the plate as well as a cabbage salad. My single complaint is that the salad had no dressing so was rather "blah" compared to everything else. I call these places fast-food katsu. They are all over Japan. Not as fancy as high-end katsu restaurants, where the pigs have been massaged daily before becoming tonkatsu, but satisfying comfort-food versions. To this end, this place delivers flawlessly. It's delicious!

Tokyo Shokudo's menu is pretty vast and includes a wide range of Japanese comfort foods. From rice bowls to udons and sobas, they've got it all! I went with their Pork Katsu Curry Udon. It wasn't particularly good, but it wasn't terrible. The katsu filet had a nice crisp to it and the curry udon was comforting. It didn't particularly wow me as I've had better elsewhere, but it was perfectly fine. A small note is that I think the bowl was a bit too small for what it was. I found myself really trying to dig deep to reach the noodles. By the time I got to them, it felt like a lot of the curry had already got soaken up. I think as an udon dish, its components could've been more well rounded.
