I took a friend here while she was in town. I'd always wanted to go and this seemed like the best opportunity to try it out. We loved it!!! The atmosphere was very chic and open. It does get a lil breezy/chilly at night so I'd advise you to bring a light jacket (wish I would've listened to the other reviews). Food was really good, though portions were a little small. I am writing to share my recent experience at Ka'teen, a restaurant I have frequented and greatly admired for the past three years. It has always been one of my favorite dining spots, known for its amazing food, generally excellent service, and wonderful ambiance. Last night, however, my dinner with my husband for his early birthday celebration was disappointing due to a significant service issue. Everything started well. We were seated, and our male waiter (who was wearing a beanie) took our order. The first sign of trouble was the Queso Fundido appetizer; it was extremely watery. When I politely pointed this out to the waiter, he appeared offended, grabbed the plate, and walked away without acknowledging me or saying a single word, such as "Let me see what I can do." A few minutes later, the manager approached our table and informed us that she would be taking over our service. My husband and I were confused about the sudden change and felt uncomfortable, wondering if we had done or said something wrong. Unfortunately, service declined severely from that point on. Our revised appetizer took an excessive amount of time to return. No one checked if we needed drink refills, and when we finally ordered our entrees, the wrong dish was delivered to the table. Our entire celebration was ruined. We ended up leaving after only having the Queso Fundido and drinks for dinner. I sincerely hope that both the management and staff review this feedback, as customer service should always be the priority. Went to Ka'teen recently to try something new. Right off the bat the scenery and atmosphere of this restaurant was fabulous. You walk in and you're immediately sent to a beautiful garden that would resemble that of island resorts. Our waiter, Aubrey was very kind and attentive. He walked us through the menus and his recommendations. Finally, the food was delicious. Our table ordered the queso fundido, Elote esquite, and the carne asada rib eye. So, was the food better than the ambiance? Not really. I felt like the scenery was doing slightly more work than the food. However, I would definitely come back again to try the kanpachi crudo and the cochinita pibil! read more

The place is beautiful, the vibes are great, and the food is delicious. As expected the price is pretty high and the portions are small. It's good to get some good pictures and some drinks and small meals before you go somewhere to get something more filling and more affordable. Hearing so much about Ka'teen, my wife and I finally decided to check it out. Instead of Dinner, we went for Brunch and it definitely was a more mellow vibe. Parking there is such a pain so we elected to do valet which was $20. It was conveniently located by the entrance of the restaurant which is a hotel. The service was great, our waiter broke down the entire menu for us which made it easy for us to order. Since it was brunch, the restaurant wasn't really packed and so it didn't feel busy. The drinks were ok but the stand out dish was the campechana ceviche. We love seafood so this was recommended by our waiter. It's served in coconut and really sold the notion we were no longer in LA but in Mexico on vacation eating fresh ceviche. read more

Ka'teen is a location straight out of selling sunset. The ambiance and environment is impressively crafted, it has remnants of Tulum while being located on an unassuming Los Angeles street. Other than the environment, there wasn't much other impressive feats. It's definitely an overpriced dinner location where the focus is photos for the gram. We came here to celebrate our upcoming wedding weekend with my fiancé, maid of honor, and her husband. The manager greeted us and escorted us to our table. When she found out about our upcoming wedding weekend, she surprised us with a champagne toast. This was absolutely so thoughtful and made our dinner even more special. They had a live band playing music, which really spiced up the vibes. The food at Ka'teen is so delicious and flavorful. We ordered a variety of items. For appetizers we ordered the chips and guacamole, queso fundio, stripe bass ceviche. The ceviche was very tangy and the fish was very fresh. As for our dinner, we did family style as recommended and we ordered the mushroom birria and short ribs. The vegetarian birria was highly recommended by the waitress and I am so happy we ordered it. None of us are vegetarian, although this twist on birria definitely makes you want to become one! As for the short rib, the meat was so tender and juicy, it just melts in your mouth. They also make house tortillas to make little tacos! I could eat these tortillas every single day! Hands down one of the best flour tortillas I have ever had. We also ordered a side of corn esquite and papas bravas. My favorite side out of the two was the corn! The unique ingredients that complement the corn. Definitely order this one again! We all ordered some drinks and I needed a little pick me up so the waitress recommended their new tiramisu espresso martini. I was worried it might be too sweet to have with dinner but it wasn't! It has a hint of tiramisu that's not over powering. I highly recommend ordering one if you're a fan of espresso martinis like myself. At the very end, our waitress surprised us with dessert. I believe it was some sort of flan and it was so creamy and delightful! Overall I am so happy we came to Ka'teen! The food is absolutely amazing. We had kanpachi ceviche, oysters, char-braised short rib, shrimp diablo and a really tasty mushroom dish (something I never hear of before) called birria. All of these were absolutely delicious and beautifully plated. The restaurant itself has a really chill vibe and great service. Stopped by for dinner before catching a show at the Pantages. Loved the outdoor dining atmosphere and everything was delicious! To start, we got the Ka'teen Margarita (+ the $4 floater I'm forgetting the name of, which gives its that purple coloring) & the old fashioned which came with a ceded topper to keep in the smoke. Wow I have no words! This place was amazing. Food was amazing, I have no complaints. And although prices were a bit steep, it was worth it! The host was not very friendly, and bartenders seemed new and a little pretentious. The ambiance of the place and concept as a whole is great. The aguachile was okay but a little soupy. Beautiful place with the inside and the garden blending into each other very harmoniously, the staff is incredibly nice and incredibly useless, long waits for food or drinks and when you try to signal to one of them that you'd like service they just go out of their way to avoid you. The menu is disappointing to say the least, I'm still hungry after dinner there, their Mexican toucan cuisine, which is too modern for normal folks, has no burritos or tacos but has a ceasar salad with uncut and hopefully washed whole leaves. I'm so tired of all these pseudo chefs who at this point just make fun of diners and probably laugh historically in the back. The homemade tortillas were undercooked and the chicken dish, there's only one chicken dish, was a mole chicken with a chocolate based sauce which I hate. The quesadilla had a fried egg on top and more mole sauce, why. Even when asking for the check they disappear to then reappear half an hour later, still, very nice people and very polite but completely, utterly useless. The vibe is very cool: open-air Tulum (Mexico) complete with lots of greenery, lighter wood, rough natural materials, and a waffle tunnel entrance. Conveniently lots of heaters and lap blankets, which we didn't need. Music was medium-loud: great for brunch, not too loud or quiet. We had no trouble talking to each other and the staff. I can see it being very loud at dinner, tho. But, we'll be back for the food. We gushed about the food to the table next to us, and they gushed back, despite having completely different items. We can see why the flan pancake is the most popular brunch item: not too sweet, great flavors and textures, and a perfect complement to the breakfast burrito, which had its own tasty flavors and textures but on the savory side. A much more sophisticated burrito than a local US top # place near us. Our neighbors had the seafood platter, salsa and chips, and maybe the chilaquiles. For drinks, we had the Luna Verde, with and without alcohol. While the regular drink was delicious, the mocktail was even better! Service was also excellent. However, this area of Hollywood is a little too sketchy for me and parking is very difficult. Vegan options were limited and not very good. My non-vegan partner said his food was good, but not worth the price.
