This was my second time here. I was looking forward to the salmon and crispy spinach, which was just as delicious as the first time. Seriously I'd come here for this dish alone. I tried some different rolls. The White Russian was very delicious! The garlic sauce on top was the star of the show. I also had the dragon roll which was good as well. The toro tasting wasn't as fresh as it was before. I found one of the selections to be rather chewy, when it should have been the most tender of the bunch. The octopus was something I'd never had before and I liked it. It had a spice that I found to be fitting. Overall, I still would say this is a good sushi spot. Came here for dinner on a Thursday evening at around 8pm to check out Christmas lights at belmont shore after. Parking in that shopping center is spotty and we did street parking. Minus 1 for that because I hate going to places where parking isn't effortless but I get it. It's Belmont shore. They ran out of some items on the menu which okay, fine. It's late in the evening. But our server went on his break without a word and finding anyone to get the check took some time. Service could've been better. Wait staff is young so although I can say I get it, it is a bit annoying. I'd go elsewhere - the Indian place there is good but I tend to go for sushi on a date over curries haha read more

I'm so disappointed. Made a reservation for 6 people last Friday night. We spent over $400 and one person didn't eat sushi. $57 was alcohol. $92 each out the door and we were all still hungry. The portions were very tiny. The quality of the sushi was "just ok".... and didn't resemble the "close up" shots on Yelp. The place was packed, but it's also very small. I was so excited to come here because it's highly rated and is ONLY open for dinner, so I couldn't check it out before I suggested to my friends that we try it. Pretty embarrassed. I'm not sure what all the hype on Yelp is. I've had WAY better quality and presentation and bummed that we all left hungry. The person who ate Ramen, said she's had better. Sorry, won't be back in this lifetime. The only positive was that our server, Keanu, was very nice. Since there were only 5 of us eating sushi, he suggested we purchase 2.5 orders (didn't think we could do that), so that was nice that he suggested it. We always sit outside on their patio area, it's super cute with the little lanterns around the edges. Never had a problem with staff or service. They're always very helpful when we ask questions - like yesterday we decided to try a Nigori sake & our waiter gave his honest opinion & we really enjoyed the one we got - I forget the name but it was creamy. The quality of the fish is SO good. We don't eat red snapper at every place out of fear of the quality but we decided to try it here & we were not let down - we ordered another order after trying it. Their hand rolls are my personal fave, the negi-hama, salmon, or bluefin tuna & green onion (it has a legit name but I forget it) . oh! & I love their Japanese mushrooms appetizer, the shishito peppers are my hubs fave. Found this low key sushi spot just outside of the crazy section of 2nd Avenue which makes getting a parking spot much easier prime time on Saturday night. They had a fairly large sushi bar with 2 flatscreens showing the basketball game making it a good place to watch the game if you are so inclined. The specials board had quite a few of my favorite fishes saw I tried a few, some even twice. Lol. The black sea bream, amberjack and Giant clam were all super fresh and tasty. It comes with yuzu which I personally love. The smoked octopus carpaccio was tender and sweet. The egg custard had lots of seafood hidden inside. The sweet shrimp were firm and a good size. Everything is to die for!! Highly recommend reservations! We called yesterday as they opened right at 5 and was able to reserve a sushi bar seat for two. Loved sitting there! We sat in front of Peter as he made our Dude Roll, Creamy Shrimp Tempura Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Roll. All were amazing!! (Craving it again now as I write this!!!) I've been wanting to eat here for quite some time, I follow them on Instagram and have really liked their posts of their food and their philosophy. Came with the fam for a celebration and were running late, the person who answered the phone was very friendly and immediately offered to hold our seats at the sushi bar for us. With Rite Aid gone, there was plenty of parking in back. So far so good! Unfortunately, once we got in the restaurant things took a strange turn. We came in the door, and almost every patron in the place looked at us but not one of the 4 waiters in the floor addressed us or even looked us at all. For at least 5 min! That may not seem like a long time, but the place is small and they all walked by us several times during that time. A woman at a table looked at us apologetically when I tried to get the attention of the waiter at her table to no avail. I had to go up to them once, then my husband had to stalk someone before we were finally seated at our reserved spot. Why do they still get 4 stars? Because the service from then on was attentive, personable and fast. The fish portions were generous, and so unbelievably fresh. We couldn't decide which sake to get so we were offered suggestions and free tastings to help with our decision. It was a wonderful dining experience. I'm still flummoxed as to why we were ignored when we arrived, but I would definitely go back, hopefully to give them an upgrade to 5 stars! read more

Went with a friend to this place and, seven plates later, we still couldn't get enough of it. I will admit, four of those plates were ginger, but hey who's keeping track. All three of our actual plates featured some of the freshest fish that I have found at this price point in Southern California. We got the smoked octopus carpaccio, red snapper sashimi and the dude roll. The smoked octopus carpaccio was a perfect texture with the perfect balance of saltiness and acidity while still letting the octopus shine. The red snapper sashimi was my favorite, if I have to choose one. The dude roll featured crab, shrimp and tuna in a creamy spicy sauce that provided just enough of a kick. Yum! Found a new sushi bar close to home. We were able to take advantage of the last day of the Dine Long Beach Omakase and it was a good one. We came with a party of four and i got the Omakase and a beer, someone else got the specials that were on the wall, a tonkatsu ramen, and a sushi special dinner. We also ordered a mushroom dish, and a four Sashimi sweet shrimp. Everything was fresh and tasty. I was really happy to find there was lots of parking in the strip mall cause it's a few blocks from the busy section of Belmont Shore. The restaurant is basically one long sushi bar seating area and then a bunch of tables high and low ones. I made a reservation and I'm glad I did cause the place was filling up and there was a constant flow of people coming in through the service. They have a good selection of beers. Lots of locals seem to frequent the restaurant. There was two large TVs so it's good to watch sports here. The restaurant basically has everything I love about a sushi restaurant. The nigiri pieces are a little on the small size almost like AUCES size. The service was good although I didn't feel connected or passionate about the food. Kihon takes away was terrible! We've frequented Kihon pre-Covid, so we were excited to give take away a try. We order just over $100.00 of sushi for a small family. When I got the bag from the waiter I was surprised at how light it was! When I got the order home I was shocked to see how under cut the pieces of fish were. No where on the order site does it say how many rolls you get, and 6 vs the more standard 8 is a big difference. It should state what you are getting. Also no where did it say the veggie tempura roll was a hand roll vs a cut roll and trying to share that amongst the family was interesting. As a frequent diner of Sugar Fish, which is a very expensive and high quality sushi restaurant we felt the prices of this place were the same and quantity of what you get for the money was appalling. The sushi we order, and the price that was paid should have easily fest 2 toddlers and two adults, but the sizes we're so small that I had to open a can of tuna and make them sandwiches, as the kids we're still starving, as were we! Totally unacceptable to change your portions for take away orders! Needless to say if you're ordering take away, you've been warned. read more

Make a reservation if you want to eat here! I used to frequent this spot pre covid and never had an issue walking in. Matter of fact, I didn't know they HAD reservations! Anyhow, there is outdoor seating, as well as a few indoor tables. Showed up right at opening at 5pm with a party of 2. I was asked if I had a reservation, when I told the man "no" (assuming he is the manager/owner) he disappeared inside for a good 10 min then came back and said we could sit down but needed to be gone by 6:30. Another man tried to seat us inside, we requested an outdoor table, which led to yet ANOTHER 10 min disappearing act inside. Finally he came back and sat us outside. Long story short, the sushi is still delicious, the wait staff was great, but the two doormen need some public relations training pronto. read more
